Among hundreds of famous ancient temples in Hue Tu Hieu temple is one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful.
When you visit you can enjoy two towering temples and also listen to the monks chanting throughout the day as part of their religious rituals.
Tu Hieu Pagoda was established in 1843. It is associated with Zen master Thich Nhat Han (Thích Nhất Hạnh), who studied at the monastery 1940s, yet lived in exile for over 40 years, and was just permitted to return to Vietnam in 2005. Nowadays, 70 monks reside at this pagoda. They are friendly and if you time it right, you could meet up with those cherubic lads, who are eager to speak English.
