The pillars, floors, and fixtures are made of cedar from Aomori Prefecture, the main pillar is made of logs, and the bookshelves are made of cypress. The scent of wood drifts throughout the house. The exterior walls are also covered with cedar panels, and the warmth of wood envelops both the interior and exterior. The living room has a wood-burning stove, making it a calm space where you can feel the warmth of wood. We inherited this house and have been protecting it while gradually restoring the neglected garden over the past 10 years. There is no TV in Shirotsubaki. Instead, we value making tea, gazing at the garden, reading books, and chatting with family and friends. Over 80 types of plants and trees grow in the garden, and the camellias that were once grown by the tea ceremony master are once again in bloom. On the natural stone terrace, you can enjoy reading or tea time without worrying about being seen. The tea room still retains the meticulous work of Kyoto craftsmen, and time passes quietly and calmly. During your stay, please choose your favourite from the authentic tea bowls and enjoy the experience of preparing matcha yourself. We provide a tea whisk and matcha. There is also a library where you can experience Japanese culture and art, and a small study called the "Reading & Writing Nook" bathed in soft light through the shoji.
