Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

Ohinata in Sakuho-town is a small village in a valley. I renovated a 80 years small wooden house by myself taking a long time. The building used to be used for raising silkworms by farms. It was our culture and industry to get silks in this area. You can have a calm time for having Coffee and beer, reading books, listening music... The village is surrounded by nature for hiking to mountains and rivers. Some local families live in around the house, so please stay like the village people.

Reservation start from 2 person / 2 nights minimum. We accept only one group at a time so you will have exclusive use of the entire property. This authentic traditional Kyoto townhouse (machiya) is located on the central island of Kyoto, close to the river, Kyoto JR station and the city-center. It used to be a typical ryokan inn. In this traditional house of 3 floors, entirely refurbished on 2020, you will be invited to stay on the second floor and have your private appartement there. The house is composed of 4 private apartments.
