My purpose built cabin, described by many as "just like a cosy hotel room" has independent access so visitors are free to come and go. We are located at "Folly Island" a quiet Hertford enclave within a short walking distance to town and railway stations.
“This was my second stay in the Cabin and it was as lovely as I remembered. It’s a great location, an easy walk into town and right in the tow path for walks along the canal or on Hartman common. The space is compact but stylish and well designed. It was warm and comfortable and quiet. Elly and her husband are perfect hosts , friendly and available if you need anything but you are able to come and go very independently. If it’s available book in!!”

“This wonderful and unusual property was perfect for us to have some private time away from the rush and bustle. It is quirky and clean and situated near plenty of options for eating out and taking away. Highly recommended.”
Only 30 mins from London yet set amongst thousands of acres of woodland and countryside, the Pumping Station has miles of footpaths and bike trails directly on its doorstep, and is engulfed by birdlife, wildlife and endless country pubs.
“Searching for a safe Covid-free space to stay while visiting my mother-in-law nearby in Cheshunt, we were delighted to find the Pumping Station, a little more expensive than we usually pay when visiting Mum but well worth it. Matt and the family were away while we were there but their hospitality could be felt in the comfortable stylish accommodation, sparkling clean with thoughtful extras like the loaf of crusty bread, cookies, jam, butter, milk and beer waiting for us. We could easily have contacted Matt had we needed to but that wasn’t necessary. It was easy to settle in. The conversion of the historic waterworks is continuing in the main part of the building but that did not bother us. In fact, it was fascinating to see a “grand design” in progress. There is a must-watch DVD of the Channel 4 Restoration Man show featuring the conversion project when it began a few years ago. You would not know you were on the edge of suburbia. We had no idea that there was such lovely countryside so near Mum’s home. Our one regret is that we didn’t have time to spend the day in the lovely garden listening to the contented clucking of their lucky hens and exploring the adjoining woods. The family have made a perfect idyll for themselves there. What else? Comfy bed, lots of shaker pegs and clothes hangers, ample toiletries in the roomy bathroom. In fact, all our needs catered for. Stay at the Pumping Station - you won’t regret it! We intend to return if they will have us.”
