You sometimes imagine yourself in the countryside because even though you are in the middle of the center of Zaandam, the birds wake you up in the morning and because of the non-existent street it is wonderfully quiet. A few minutes away you are on the Dam of Zaandam and with the Zaanse Schans and Amsterdam around the corner, you can go all the way.

The ribbon village of Oostknollendam is 20 minutes from the heart of Amsterdam. With the beach of Castricum nearby, Zaanse Schans around the corner. Culture at the HEM site in Zaandam or Kranenburgh museum in Bergen. Go to a terrace in Alkmaar, eat at a trattoria in Neck, get ice cream at Hemels in the Zaanbocht of Wormerveer...
