Lakefront Cottage for Families

humaRating, 5 stars10 months ago
Our family had a wonderful stay. The stunning views are even better than the pictures. The kids loved both the outdoor and indoor activities, with canoeing and local attractions being the highlights for us. Hosts Cindy and Mike were extremely helpful, offering excellent recommendations and exceeding our expectations. The place had a welcoming vibe. Highly recommended—a hidden gem.

Lakefront Family Cottage - All Season Oasis

KellyRating, 5 stars7 months ago
We enjoyed a wonderful 3 night break at Carol Ann’s cottage. From my initial enquiry to questions during our stay, Carol Ann was extremely responsive and super helpful. She popped by to check in and brought us a bin bag when we didn’t have one, we enjoyed chatting with her. The cottage is lovely, excellent amenities and extremely comfortable with lovely views of the lake. We made use of the paddle boat, kayak and SUP. We enjoyed fishing off the dock and caught small sunfish and bass. Madoc town is just 5 minutes away. It was an ideal spot for us to enjoy some family time, we would definitely stay again! Thanks Carol Ann!

M&M's Waterfront Cottage - Getaway into nature!

ShahinRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This is a cozy, clean, and beautiful cottage where we had a wonderful weekend with our friends. The host was excellent—very responsive and accommodating. Check-in and check-out were seamless and hassle-free. The only downside was the late check-in time (3 PM) and early check-out time (10 AM), which felt a bit restrictive. Overall, it was a great experience!

Forest Mills Cabin Retreat

LukeRating, 5 stars5 months ago
The stay was incredible! I would say that the pictures matched, but it was so much more than what we expected. The space was bigger, was really well taken care of, and the owners were amazing people. Even when a minor issue happened, they were right on top of it and it didn't affect our stay in the slightest. I would 100% come back

Jen's place was a perfect venue for a get together with some old friends. We enjoyed the camp fire, sat on the dock, and took a walk on the nice trail that's just a short walk away. The cottage had everything we needed. Thanks for a great weekend!

There’s also plenty of art and culture to explore in Bancroft, and this small town has several outdoor murals as well as galleries to choose from.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Bancroft

Bancroft has distinct seasons, but is a lovely place to visit year round. Over summer, many people look for cottages to rent in Bancroft so they can take advantage of the region’s outdoor parks, lakes, and picnic spaces. There are several lakes nearby which offer swimming, and plenty of forest trails to explore. Fall brings sunny skies and milder weather, as well as lower humidity. This is a great time to go hiking or cycling, and especially to visit Eagle’s Nest Park, when the changing colours of the leaves transform the valley. Rainfall is typically at its highest in spring, though this can be an ideal time for exploring town’s murals, galleries, and boutiques. Winter brings cold, snowy weather, and the nearby Provincial Park in the Kawartha Highlands offers cross-country skiing trails.

Top things to do in Bancroft

Baptiste Lake

This large, freshwater lake forms part of a chain of three lakes, including Benoir and Elephant Lakes. Surrounded by towering trees and rocky escarpments, it’s a great spot for boating, as well as fishing, especially for yellow perch, lake herring, pumpkin seed, northern pike and walleye. There is also a designated swimming area where you can cool off over summer.

Art Gallery of Bancroft

Bancroft offers a range of galleries to explore, the largest of which is the Art Gallery of Bancroft, which celebrates and showcases the work of artists and artisans from the town, as well as around rural Ontario. Run entirely by volunteers, this gallery also hosts an opening night for new exhibitions on the last Friday of every month, and a range of art-themed workshops. You can also explore A Place for the Arts, the West Wind Gallery, the Bancroft & Area Art & Craft Guild.

Eagle’s Nest Park

This large national park offers a selection of unique trails, including the Eagle’s Nest trail, which offers an insight into the early Indigenous presence of the area and the land’s unique geology, flora and fauna. The Hawkwatch, a popular destination in the park, offers an incredible view over the River Valley as well as the township of Bancroft. The views into the valley change during the seasons and are particularly impressive during fall.
