Johns Island is on the first floor of our historic three room Inn and has a wrap-around farmer's porch with a side-view across Bass Harbor. This room is street side and faces a meadow which is filled with lupines in the spring. Take the staircase to the shore, watch the tide change and look for your favorite shore bird - guillemots, loons and eagles are frequent visitors. Our innkeeping-family has been welcoming guests to the the Blue Hill Peninsula of Maine since July 4, 1889. We are perfectly situated directly on the saltwater of the Reach and the freshwater of Walker Pond. The Oakland House has two private ocean beaches. In the distance, you can see the Pumpkin Island Lighthouse and even the Camden Hills! Our guests also have access to the Blue Dot and Yellow Dot trails that lead up to a phenomenal view of the waterfront from Lookout Rock.
