Welcome back! We’re following Covid-19 cleaning guidelines but please contact us first if you need more detail. Kington is a small market town off the beaten track on the Herefordshire/Welsh Border. Our cottage is in a quiet, secluded spot in the town whose amenities include food stores, cafes, takeaways and pubs. Walkers’ heaven! Offa’s Dyke Path passes within about 300m of our door. If you stay 2 nights when walking the Path, we can collect/deposit you from/to the trail free of charge.
“We had a great stay at Liz’s place. Liz met us in the car park around the corner and drove us back to the house. The room is spacious with a huge en suite bathroom, all sparkling clean with lots of nice touches. Liz took the time to speak to us about our day and she knows all about the town and walks in the area. We highly recommend. There are lots of pubs within walking distance and we both had splendid homemade lasagne in the Oxford Arms down the road. They also had a free pool table and darts board, what’s more the locals were friendly and spoke to us and the landlord and staff couldn’t have been better.”
Nestled in fabulous walking country with attractive towns & villages, superb pubs and tranquil open spaces all within easy distance. The views are glorious, overlooking wooded hills with the Black Mountains beyond. Hay on Wye with its bookshops and literary festival is 8 miles away. Hereford & its cathedral is within 14 miles. A warm welcome awaits couples, solo adventurers, cyclists, walkers, road trippers and anyone who relishes a recuperative rest in a tranquil and friendly place.
“Alex has obviously put a lot of work in making the summer house a comfy, cosy, welcoming place. It was a great stay in all the sense. He’s a great, attentive host. This is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend or a base to explore the area! We’ll certainly be back!”
The cottage at Castleton Barn is a truly special place, recently restored as a distinctive holiday let for up to 4 people. A 17th-century farm cottage at the end of a country lane shared only with the owner's house (adjacent), enjoying restful quiet with a private drive and garden giving on to stunning views of the Brecon Beacons. Located just 3 miles from the book-lover's haven of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its literary festival and easygoing charm, it is the perfect place to escape to.
“I stayed with my partner in Pat & Catherine's cottage for two nights in February. Before we arrived, the host's communication was prompt and incredibly helpful, and their directions were great- the cottage was easy to find and check in couldn't have been any smoother. The cottage itself was incredibly cosy- it has a lovely fireplace with plenty of wood provided, a kitchen with everything you would need and a games cupboard with plenty of entertainment. The bed is very comfortable, and the shower is brilliant. As is the bath. The cottage has a lovely garden, and is about ten minutes drive from Hay on Wye and a co-op. We had everything we need and I would definitely recommend it. We would love to come back!”
