To complete your Sumatran adventure why not stay with a local family! I prepared a spacious guest room for you in my home, equipped with double bed, towels, hot and cold drinking water, open air shower and mosquito net. I can arrange tours to the waterfalls and lakes and to the highest volcano Kerinci. The village of Pasar Siulak Gedang has plenty of small shops, fruit stalls and local restaurants for grabbing a bite to eat. Monday morning is market day, don’t miss it!
“I chose Romes' place as the previous reviews were very good, and we were not disappointed! Romes and his family were very kind and helped our stay be as comfortable as possible. For the price, he includes breakfast, unlimited drinking water, tea and coffee, and hot water in the morning. He gave us local tips, great routes to views along the way and accompanied us to Ganung tujuh (as he was headed there anyway) where his wife wangled us out of the ridiculous 150k tourists fee (per person!) to a respectable 50k. We ended up staying 4 nights, despite the whole village being awake shortly after 4am. Prayers and market noise will wake you up intermittently but we were too tired from our hikes to be truly annoyed. There are local food and shops nearby, room is spacious and toilets clean. Wifi wasnt working at the time but we had sim data so not too much of issue for us. Will miss this place! Thank you Romes!”
My name's Rolis, my family and I live in a beautiful village in Kerinci, Sumatra. People call it the secret valley because not many people know about our amazing place. Most of the people in our community work in cinnamon. The 2 bedrooms are comfortable for 5 people. Kitchen and bathroom are to be shared. Transportation to my place as well as scooter rental and tours to the many amazing waterfalls and lakes and to the highest volcano Kerinci in Indonesia can be arranged easily.
“Rolis and his family are amazing host, taking great care of their guests such as in the morning you will wake up to freshly home cooked breakfast and aromatic coffee or tea. Rolis himself is extremely passionate of developing Kerinci’s into a tourist haven and has consistently been taking approaches to making it happen. He knows his hometown inside and out and will bring you to places only known to the locals. The Kerinci hiking tour is superb with the porter cum guide caring for all aspects of your need (food, tent, looking out for your safety...) Only thing you may want to take note is the distance to and fro Padang city, especially when taking the shared taxi. A supposing 6-7 hr ride may become 10 hr as the driver may pick up other passengers along the way, take breaks in between and traffic conditions. Don’t plan your trip too compact because this is Indonesia after all ;-)”

“One of the best airbnb experiences we have had for sure! Erna is very kind and welcoming. She will help to arrange transport and is willing to accommodate our demands of being up early for birdwatching. She is also an incredible cook and made up a sumptuous dinner every night (dinner is not included in the cost of the AirBnB despite what the description says, cost us 300,000 IDR for 4 pax). Drinking water was provided for free throughout our stay, but it is from a dispenser so bring your own bottle/waterbag. Laundry service is also provided at a cost, clothes are air dried so it takes 1 or 2 full days depending on weather. The room is aesthetic and spacious enough, the beds are nice and the blankets soft and warm. The washroom only has cold water so do expect cold baths using a bucket. Free tea and coffee in the rooms. This is probably the place to stay if visiting Kerinci, and Erna and her family really made us feel at home =) We also had a guide named Zacky to bring us around on some days, whom we would really recommend too, ask Erna and she can link you up!”
