Patio doors provide access to a deck and sitting area with a view of our secluded backyard retreat, larger patio and two fun-loving doodle pups. Our Art Studio is always open for visitors and creatives.

The space
Our Bird’s Nest micro-suite is anything but ordinary. With its private entrance, it is located in the Birdsong Studios building at the back of our beautiful property in downtown High River. As the second completed project built by SEED Homes of Calgary, the Bird’s Nest gives you a taste of SEED Homes living on a smaller scale.
At only 224 square feet, the unit has everything you need for a refreshing stay: a European-style kitchenette, a pull-down Murphy bed, and a 4-piece bath. Patio doors open to a deck and sitting area with a peaceful view of our backyard retreat, with mature trees and two gentle and fun-loving doodle pups. The deck also connects to the art studio next door, which you are always welcome to visit or arrange a private painting session.
BIRDSONG STUDIOS
Birdsong Studios is both a working art studio and a gallery. The walls are full of paintings and prints by Russell and Heather Thomas. With distinctive styles, you can enjoy intriguing abstract paintings, portraits, colourful animals, or entrancing landscapes. The art is constantly changing, so you never know what you might find. You’ll also be able to see a variety of works in progress, which is a unique opportunity to ask questions and discover insights and anecdotes about our creative processes.
Adjacent to the art studio is our Ideal Protein office. We provide coaching support and high-quality protein products to a small number of dieters. At first blush, it may seem an odd pairing, but it seems to work. Both of us have benefitted from the Ideal Protein Protocol—collectively, we dropped over 50 pounds in just a couple of months—and we enjoy sharing this doctor-designed weight loss program with others.
ABOUT SEED HOMES
We love living and working in the very first SEED Homes. Built by Calgary-based SEED Homes, both buildings have attracted visitors from across North America because of their unique design and construction. Both the house and studio arrived shrink-wrapped on flatbed trucks, were placed on helical screw piles with a massive crane and unwrapped, unfolded and buttoned up in a single day. Building on its industrial heritage, SEED Homes is constructing incredibly robust homes with superior insulation values and a focus on environmental sustainability.
ABOUT HIGH RIVER
Located just 20 minutes south of Calgary, High River provides a taste of small-town life while offering many amenities. Located downtown, the Bird’s Nest is within walking distance to various stores, restaurants and local attractions. Pretty much everything you need is a five-minute walk or drive away. A popular filming location, High River is home to Heartland, a long-running television series. You’ll notice many familiar landmarks when you do a walking tour of the historic downtown district, just one block to the west. High River also boasts great access to nature walks. One of our favourites begins at George Lane Park and continues along the meandering Highwood River.
Guest access
The Birds Nest is nestled in the back corner of our Art Studio (the Building with the 36B address). Your PRIVATE key-coded entrance is located at the WEST wall of this building.
1. Either park on 1st Street East or in our client parking spot off the alley if it is empty.
2. You will see the BLUE METAL building with the address 36B and Birdsong Studios signage.
3. Walk down the alley toward the end of the building. You will see a welcome sign on our neighbour's fence.
4. Turn LEFT and walk up the sidewalk pavers between the building and our neighbour's fence.
**Please be cautious of the German Shepherd dog next door - he barks loudly**
5. Your personal key code will be provided for access to the suite the day of check in.
Other things to note
If you are a longer-term guest and require the use of the washing machine and dryer, please let us know, and we can make those arrangements.
**We are "pet-friendly" for well-behaved dogs. Absolutely NO CATS please due to allergies.**
