Kid-friendly vacation rentals in Heimaey

Multi-generational family of 6 enjoyed waking up to the farm dog greeting us and sheep and cows right outside our windows. Very functional and spotlessly clean. Hosts were responsive but gave us our space. The location was a great launching point to the islands ferry, all the south coast sites, and a longer day trip to the Golden Circle.

This was a beautiful house and location. We used it as more of a stopover on the way back across the south of the country, but I would have happily stayed here a few days and used it as a base, with a lot of the waterfalls and activities in the area. Gorgeous scenery all around and great for viewing aurora since it’s dark and remote. The house was comfortable, cozy, well supplied. The stairs to the loft are definitely steep, more like a ladder, in case that matters to you, but the upstairs is great with two bedrooms. He was very helpful in advance making sure to send exact directions and a google map for finding it. I hope we return to Iceland and would definitely stay here again.

Our group had an incredible stay! The location was the perfect balance of being wonderfully remote, offering peace and quiet, yet still conveniently close to several attractions. We loved coming back from a day of exploring, knowing we could unwind in such a serene setting. The property had everything we needed, including a fully equipped laundry, which made our stay so much easier. One of the highlights was being able to see the Northern Lights right from the property—an absolutely magical experience! We couldn’t have asked for a better spot and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a mix of adventure and relaxation.

Location was perfect for sightseeing near and far. The airbnb was very comfortable and warm with a well equipped kitchen. Trausti was a great host. I would highly recommend this place.

Our stay at Larus’ accommodation was magical. Such a beautiful and restful setting, we felt relaxed instantaneously. The space was spotless with everything considered. The hot tubs and sauna were wonderful luxuries with the verandas thoughtfully sheltered from the breeze and the kayak’s in the lake which our boys enjoyed. The communication from start to when we left was proactive and clear with Kamil kindly meeting us at the cottages to guide us to the house and show us around. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

We had a lovely stay in Helga's cozy cabin. She was extremely responsive and provided highly detailed instructions. The house was beautiful and very well stocked. Highly recommend booking Helga's cabin!

Kids enjoyed the most because of the PlayStation .We loved the cute radio playing in the morning during breakfast and the coffee machine was perfect ! We were very comfortable in your house . House was perfect for a family of 4. Also loved the attractions folder . We enjoyed the Mexican food from the food truck company and the ice creams from the local shop. Watched a nice movie together last night . Was home away from home . Thanks a lot .

The barn house was beautifully built and decorated with spectacular views. The skylight windows were perfect for watching for the northern lights. The kitchen had all the basics and some extras like a nespresso machine and pods. We enjoyed cooking there and using the hot tub. The washer and dryer were super helpful. It was a great launching place for the Golden Circle. Stokkseyri is a cute little town with a great local pool. The turf house across the street was fun to explore as was the beach on the other side of the turf wall. It is very near Bakkahestar for highly recommended Icelandic horse rides with a local couple on the beach in Eyrarbakki. Nearby Selfoss has anything you need including an amazing fish market Fiskbud Suderlands for great prices on fresh caught local fish. Kristinn was very responsive and we loved our stay!

L’alloggio è piccolo ma molto accogliente e moderno. Abbiamo trovato tutto quello di cui avevamo bisogno. Inoltre, si trova in un contesto stupendo, da una parte le montagne innevate e dall’altra l’oceano. Sembrava di essere immersi in un posto magico! L’host ci ha accolti con il sorriso e oltre che a darci il benvenuto, ci ha dato alcuni consigli sulla zona. Esperienza indimenticabile, e perché no , speriamo di tornarci! Chiara e Francesco

We had a wonderful stay. The studio apartment is large, clean, private and comfortable, and located in a very peaceful but convenient area. Octavian was a very friendly host and we were welcomed with some fresh fruit and treats which was very kind. The apartment was well equipped for cooking. It is walking distance to Skogafoss and Kvernufoss which is very convenient. We would highly recommend a stay!

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt, die Wohnung, vorallem das Schlafzimmer war größer und schöner als es auf den Bildern wirkte. Es ist unglaublich leise und ungestört dort - perfekt um runterzukommen! Die zwei Hunde, die zum Hof gehören sind sehr süß und freundlich. Aber selbst wenn man Angst vor Hunden hat, wäre das kein Problem, die Hunde sind keinesfalls aufdringlich etc. Besonders beeindruckend fanden wir den schwarz-weißen Hund, welcher immer wieder den gleichen Stein unter Tausenden schwarzen Steinen wiederfinden konnte und einem diesen dann auf den Schuh gelegt hat - ein entzückendes Highlight!

Thank you so much to Veronique for giving us such a warm, cosy, comfortable place to stay. Very peaceful, quiet, lots of parking and amazing sunsets. Everything was perfect; kitchen and bathroom had everything we needed, it was very very clean and Veronique was 100% responsive very quickly with any questions we had. The location is also perfect because positioned just off the main road from Reykjavik/Selfoss to all the attractions on the way to Vik and further east. We would heartily recommend Veronique and her lovely property to anyone staying in the south of Iceland.

Dana was an extraordinary host who went above and beyond to help make my stay as enjoyable as possible. Very responsive and friendly and easy to approach. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe and comfortable which can be quite rare. Everything was perfect. The place was immaculate and the location was exactly where I needed to be to decompress. Dana demonstrates True hospitality and I look forward to returning sometime soon!

We really enjoyed the scenery and the peacefulness. We were hoping to see the northern lights and the lighting there was great for it but unfortunately weather didn’t cooperate. All went well and appreciate her kindbess

Really nice place to stay in Selfoss! Not a commercial apartment but rather a place that Irena and her family actually stay - really warm, cozy, and spacious! You can find everything you need; also a great place for kids!

It was wonderful to stay at Arna's family second home. Great hostess. My first nice Airbnb experience. This apartment is very well situated and close to a lot of sights. The town of Selfoss is charming and easy to walk.. Highly recommend staying at her place. You will love this place. Very nice indeed. Thank you Arna. :-)

We had a great stay in Selfoss. The condo is tucked into a complex of sorts. There is a playground very close which was great for our kids. The condo was very cozy, clean and comfortable. We were out sightseeing most of our time and this was a great “home base”. Not much to see right around the condo but that didn’t bother us. The condo had everything we needed and more. Thanks for a great stay!!

Wonderful place to stay! If you value a quiet private setting this place is perfect! A bit of a drive from other sites but we liked that it was more remote. It was still an easy drive to vik for the day. The pools and steam room made it a really special place to unwind.

Our family of four stayed 6 days at Margret’s apartment. It was equipped with everything we needed - the small commodities like coffee and tea bags, salt and pepper were very nice to see. The local sweets left by the host were a nice gesture too :). The apartment was spacious enough for the 4 of us to stay comfortably. The host is extremely responsive. All of my messages were responded to within minutes. When I mentioned that the kettle wasn't working on the evening of our first day, it was left by the door early next day. There were some crumbs on the wardrobe shelves and some dog hair (I think) in some places but that didn't bother us. We just cleaned it with the available equipment and detergents. We'd definitely stay there again if we were returning to Iceland.

Great tiny apartment. It's on a residential area but close to different attractions and a supermarket.
