Set on 45 acres of Canadian Shield : natural ponds so no swimming or fishing, but a kayak for puttering around. 3 klm's of groomed trails. Retreat feels like being in a tree house. Electricity, fireplace, screened in porch . Outhouse - inside potty for night time. Shower at our place and use the wifi on our deck. Toaster, microwave, hot plate, toaster oven, bar fridge and coffee pot in cabin as well as all linens and wood. Wifi not in cabin but in our back porch. Rustic beauty.
“My stay was Oct. 23-25, and I can only repeat wholeheartedly all of the praises that previous guests have heaped upon the Rock Ridge Retreat, and Carolyn and Steve. What beautiful people, and top-notch hosts they are! It takes very special people who have kind hearts and faith in the goodness of humans to open up their space to people unknown, and C and S have exactly those. The Retreat was sorely needed by me at this time (for rest and songwriting), and the solitude and beauty around me didn't disappoint. In fact, as others have said, the photos are very accurate, but the reality is even more wonderful! As I navigated my way into (and out of- a comedy of errors on my part!) the canoe, Steve was there to help me with both. Such a good and nice man. They offered tons of local info and tips on the stay in the cabin, and both helped me with my bags as well, since the short path to the cabin is rocky and a bit tricky (removing wet leaves from the path may help prevent a slip the next autumn around). And what a gorgeous log cabin it is!! I actually shed tears of pure joy at walking in (after my hosts had left, of course- kind of embarrassing!) This was a bucket list check-off moment for me- being in a log cabin in the woods. They've both provided every big and small thing you would need (food notwithstanding, but coffee and water, yes) for a rustic and restful stay. There was lots of wood for a cozy fire in the wood stove, candles on the mantle, tons of warm blankets and pillows, etc. My only observation was that the hotplate was in need of a bit of a cleaning, so I gave it a soapy wipe down. Otherwise, the cabin is lovely and clean. The rate was competitive and affordable, as well. I kept thinking that I wish I had had a couple more nights there! Knowing my hosts were nearby was great for peace of mind, and yet it was private and quiet enough to feel secluded. The views out of the windows are breathtaking, especially at this time of year. I don't hesitate to encourage all to visit the RRR to see for yourself. Thank you so much, Carolyn and Steve, for making people in need of beauty and space (like me) so happy. I was inspired to write a song (while there) about this magnificent spot- the lyric is done, and when the music is, as well, will get it to you both asap!”

With all of the modern conveniences including hot water, outdoor shower, bar fridge, wifi and well appointed outdoor kitchen, you will transition seamlessly from swimming right at your doorstep to cooking a gourmet meal in your own outdoor paradise. Re-connect with nature and re-charge yourselves!
“One of the nicest unique stays Ive been to. Everything is so thoughtfully placed. The tent is spacious and the bed is so comfortable. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped, the seating area/view is amazing. Didnt get a chance to swim this stay but there is a dock right above a swimming hole. Amazing and romantic get away. Feels like you are far away on vacation and not just a couple hours from Toronto. Highly recommend!”
Lakefront open concept Yurt on Beautiful Lake Mississippi in Carleton Place
“We really enjoyed our first experience in a yurt. With all of the amenities (full kitchen, full bathroom, hot water and electricity) it really felt like a cottage. It also felt much bigger than it looked. It was well appointed, clean, comfortable and welcoming. The view was great. We really enjoyed the huge private backyard overlooking the lake. Brenda was lovely and easily accessible. The on-site restaurant (a few steps away from the yurt) was much better than I expected. Great menu (higher end than expected), great setting, great quality, generous portions and great service. We ate there on both nights! The only things to note are that although it feels like a cottage it is still a yurt so not exactly soundproofed. It is fairly quiet around so not a big issue. The wifi is also quite sporadic but good cell reception. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day weekend and the kayaking was great!”
