Benjamin was flexible when we decided to change our plans and was always responsive. The house was nice and set up nicely for our family and grandparents. There was something for everyone. Books, games, puzzles and toys for the kids. The dock and yard were beautiful, the perfect place for a large group.

Family friendly cottage

Nice stay.We stayed the end of August/beginning of september. Don't forget to pack jackets because it may get a little chilly while fishing early/late hrs of the day. Caught pike, bass and small crayfish( that we released) from the dock using worms, minnows, weiners as bait. My family members were able to swim and kayak/conoe during the day. ( the water is 10 + feet deep) There was occassional boat traffic in the middle part of the lake which sent waves our direction that made me a little nervous) The house felt comfortable and was adequetly furnished and had good storage. Areas to improve: - I forgot to mention this to Joy because we brought out own, but in the shower there was no shampoo but only liquid hand soap. - One of the picture windows and the window in the dining room didn't have curtains so I covered them with sheets - Dishwasher didn't drain fully so we hand washed the dishes after the first load. Overall it was a good stay. Owner was very responsive and helpful

Stormbay Cottage on Lake of the Woods -Weekly Only

M. LynnRating, 5 stars19 months ago
We just spent 2 wonderful weeks at the Storm Bay cottage. Mark and Faye are great hosts. Mark gave us easy driving instructions, met us on arrival and took the time to show us around. He was also easy to reach when we had a question. Everything about the place was great - the location (close to Kenora for supplies but also private), the house, the boathouse (it's spectacular!), the view, the fishing and especially the sunsets. It's so peaceful and quiet and the fishing was great. We came with a couple of boats but we even caught fish from the dock. When on shore we lacked for absolutely nothing. The kitchen was the best equipped we've ever seen. We didn't use the hot tub or the sauna but I enjoyed having the piano. We were a small group of 4 but there is plenty of room for a very large group on shore and on 2 nearby islands, King and Sunset. We've been coming to LOTW for 40 years and THIS WAS OUR BEST STAY. We can't wait to come back to our favorite place on our favorite lake.

Your guide to Kenora

Welcome to Kenora

Located amid the boreal forests and lakes of Northwestern Ontario, Kenora’s main attraction is its body of water — the massive Lake of the Woods, which has more than 14,500 islands and is nearly as large as the Great Lakes. Lake of the Woods extends from Ontario into Manitoba and across the US border into Minnesota, but you can enjoy its beaches, and swim, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or fish in its waters without straying far from town. You’ll know that fishing is important here when you spot Husky the Muskie, a 12-metre(40-foot)-tall statue of a fish beside the lake. Stop into the town’s brewery, which opened in 1898; you can book a tour of the former firehall that still houses its brewing operations.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Kenora

Summer and early fall are the most popular times to visit Kenora and the Lake of the Woods region. From July through September, everything is open; the days are warm, even hot; and lake life is in full swing. Peak foliage season starts here in mid-to-late September. Expect heavy snow and sub-zero temperatures between November and March, and you can sometimes get snow as late as April or as early as October. Mosquitoes and black flies can be a nuisance, especially in the spring and early summer, so make sure you pack protective clothing and insect repellent.

Top things to do in Kenora

The Muse

Near the waterfront on Kenora’s Main Street South, The Muse encompasses two buildings: the Lake of the Woods Museum and the Douglas Family Art Centre. The museum features exhibits about local heritage and culture, while the newer art centre showcases artworks and offers activities for families.

Rushing River Provincial Park

Rushing River is known for the cascades tumbling down the river, but it’s also a destination for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. The provincial park, which is 25 minutes southeast of Kenora, has four swimming areas with sandy beaches. It’s also the access point for multi-day canoe trips into Eagle-Dogtooth Provincial Park.

Sioux Narrows Provincial Park

Sioux Narrows Provincial Park is located on Lake of the Woods, southeast of Kenora. You can view Indigenous pictographs within the park, or choose from boating, canoeing, fishing, or swimming in the lake. Also in the park is a family-friendly lakeside camping area with about 50 sites.
