“The place is great, we had great communication with the hosts. A clean, nice, harmonious and tucked-in place 10 minutes walk from the center of Vrsac. All recommendations!”
We live on the countryside in an old mansion built in 1760 by Baron Nicolic, 36 km from Timisoara in a small village called Rudna which lies right next to the river Timis. The building needs to be renovated therefore only a small part is habitable. We have a couple of rooms which are simple but functional, cozy and rustic. The rooms are not separated from ours. We have one bathroom with toilet and two separate toilets. We live on a farm so animals come into the house. Please read description too.
“Do you look for a place off-the-beaten-track with a real Romanian country life spirit? This is not a broomed B'n'B. This is real. With care, joy, fresh food and love but also with simple basics, dust that needs to get a daily sweep and plenty of animals. If you want to experience the reality, you can share a piece of this kingdom. No luxery but a honest bed and a copious meal of home grown and home made products. It sounds like a peaceful island but the internet connection is superbe. Arriving in Rudna felt like ending up on a location of Kusturica's wicked but intriguing movies. The station of Rudna is closed but the train from Timisoara still calls there. Or the bus can bring you. We arranged on beforehand that Maria got us with her own car (for a really reasonable fee). In Rudna you find three small shops where you can buy essentials and which are also used as an informal pub. We actually only bought an ice-cream as Maria took great care of anything else that had to do with food. There's a little church, public water tap and primary school with a small playground in front of Maria's gate. Behind the wooden gate you find an undiscovered paradise. Pass old trees before you reach the old mansion of Baron Nikolic. The 12 hectare of own land reach until the dike and the riverside. Animals free-range everywhere which was a big attraction for our kids. Dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, pigs, sheep, goats, two horses...I was only amazed there was no rooster waking us up early mornings. We communicated with Maria in German and were in touch with Alice in English which worked out completely fine for us. Maria shares stories and dreams if you like to understand more. We got two rooms on the first floor which made it a kind a private floor in that way. (If you are afraid of mosquitoes, bring your own nets.) There isn't yet a tap on the first floor but that's on the renovation planning. The toilet is downstairs in front of the stairs. To get to the shower/bathroom you go through the kitchen and storage room. We felt very welcome and at home so for us this was no issue. It felt for us like staying at family and friends. A precious feeling in a country with another history and culture than your own. Maria takes into account your wishes, just tell her if you prefer brown bread or have eaten enough eggs for the rest of the week. She likes to offer the best stay and surprised us also with typical Romanian treats. Maria is very flexible and inventive looking for solutions. As we were without car, Maria arranged bikes for us upon request. The kids could give a hand feeding the animals and tried to milk the goat and take care of ducklings. We could join Maria to the markets which was also a special adventure for the boys. When we were planning our travel we were a bit wondering whether 3 days in a small village wouldn't be too long. It turned out far too short. We were really enjoying just relaxing and being there. You can also get a walk along the river, wander in the village. We even didn't have time to really explore this. Also if you come with a mobile home or tent this is a idyllic address. Our memories are so great that we love to be back for a longer stay at Maria's place. Thanks for having us!”
