“Ivor’s 2 bedroom apartment was very spacious and in an excellent location. The view is spectacular of Lamu/water and excellent sunrises. We stayed 3 nights and wished we stayed longer. When we were there was an excellent breeze from the water that the apartment was very comfortable for temperature. We were picked up at the airport and dropped off at the airport. His staff were great, they were on time and helped us with our bags. Everyone involved was very friendly. We really enjoyed the location as walkable to Shelah beach or you can take a boat. There is a great restaurant a block away called Mangrove … we ate there breakfast and dinner everyday ( say Hi to Janet ! Lots of locals eating at Magroves and local prices ). This apartment is great value. This apartment could fit 6 people if needed. If you have mobility issues it might be difficult to walk up the 3 flights of stairs to the apartment. Ivors was by far the best accommodation we had in Kenya and Tanzania. Hope to return again. Thank you !”
Saba Artist Residency , a place to delink, refresh and relax. The site is located 500m inland in between Lamu and Shela, its a 10 minute walk to the beach. Please bring a hat, closed shoes for the walk and some suncream as it is very hot. The cottage is a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom, completely self contained with a fully equipped kitchen, catering on site is available upon request. The house features a lovely open courtyard which is perfect for entertaining.
“This house is absolutely stunning! Carl (Moran) thought of every possible detail in this rejuvenating oasis on Lamu island. Tucked-in and protected by the rolling dunes on the outskirts of both Shela and Lamu town, it’s a light stroll from your water taxi or boda (passible from Lamu town or Shela when tide is low) to this retreat from the souk in Lamu or your mid-day beach nap in Shela. As a trained architect and furniture designer, Moran’s vision of Lamu and the stunning property he’s designing (a villa is in the works and an artist residency is already open) are truly exquisite. Be sure to stop by his studio and take a dhow ride on Youssef’s Mozambican-wood beaut. Even better is the option to hire Irene, a chef specializing in coastal Swahili cuisine who is a regular cook at a local boutique hotel. Excellent stay!”
This spacious and tranquil beach house, is set in a garden oasis 10 minutes walk from Peponi Hotel. Welcome to Brian's Beach House where you can relax away from the bustle of Shela Village. The 2 storey house is set on a rise just back from the shoreline. The Upstairs Apt has 2 ensuite rooms opening onto a veranda with sea views. Enjoy the sea breeze flowing through the garden in this quiet, cool & comfortable house where you'll have the perfect Lamu beach holiday.
“Our visit to Lamu confirmed our feelings that this is the very best place on earth to have a holiday - and Brian's Beach House was so much part of this . The house is charming, simple, comfortable and stylish - exactly what you want - set back in a lush and quite magical wild garden that provides shade and serenity. Walk down the path and through the red gate, and you're on the water - on the main path between Lamu and Shela. Turn right and in ten minutes you're at glorious Shela Beach, on the deck of Peponi's, or wandering through the alluring Shela village - a fascinating and ( to an outsider at least) successful experiment in co-existence between expatriates and locals; turn left and in thirty minutes (or ten on a boat, which you can get right outside) and you're in the bustling, ramshackle ancient city of Lamu. You couldn't be better positioned! And looked after! Ali is a perfect host, and a brilliant chef. Don't miss his grilled fish, his prawns curry, his chili calamari - all totally fresh! - and his fantastic vegetables: especially his coconut lentils and spinach, spinach, spinach like you've never eaten! All bought at the Lamu market. You can go with Ali and shop with him - he's a great guide to the town. Ali can also help you plan day-trips: don't miss going out on a dhow to a remote beach, for a grilled fish lunch on deck. Charlie, the owner, is in Australia - but is an excellent communicator. In short: we love Brian's beach house- and can't wait to return.”
