The roof is of a type called “nobori-hama”, which is commonly found in Hokuriku machiya houses from the Meiji to Taisho periods, and features a deeply overhanging eaves with a ledge.A distinctive feature is the yellow and green stained glass panels set into the glass-framed sliding doors, which create a glamorous, restaurant-like atmosphere. Before the war, the Hikiyama Festival procession passed through this run-down town in the evening.In the town's premier entertainment district, young people who had achieved their goals* worked here with enthusiasm.There were also a lot of onlookers, and it took over two hours to get through here—it was very busy. Enjoy a wonderful stay in Echizu-Jōzaka at Aramachian, a historic kominka (traditional Japanese house) that retains its elegant charm. *Request: During the Hikiyama procession, to hold a religious ceremony, set up a portable shrine in front of the house, and listen to the Hikiyama songs.

What you get instead is the slow passage of time in a 150-year-old house and the "space" to spend time in Hida's natural surroundings. Gather around the table with family and loved ones. Gazing at the view from the veranda. Read a book. Listening to music. Or, do nothing. Live like you're at home and do nothing.
