- Imagine walking across the sea on the traditional Pilgrim’s Way to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the Jewel of the Northumberland Coast. In the Winter months, you'll need your wellies and lots of warm and sometimes waterproof layers to keep the seasonal chill at bay. Crossing the Pilgrim's Way is dictated by the tides, so you really have to go with a guide to be safe and to get the most from the scenery, the wildlife and the history of this remarkable place. As we walk, you will hear tales of the people who over the past 1,500 years have travelled this way before you including Kings, Saints and Vikings. On reaching the Island, we'll pick up a picnic and choose our spot to enjoy a locally prepared meal. Then, we explore the Island close to the village, looking at a number of natural and built features linked to the religious and maritime history of Holy Island. The best is yet to come, as the sun begins to set, we return to the Pilgrim’s Way, but this time going in the opposite direction and walking towards the setting sun and it can be spectacular. The skies turn red as the sun dips below the horizon, dusk arrives and soon darkness envelops us, as we arrive back on the mainland with some brilliant memories of our sunset walk across the sea to Lindisfarne.
