  • Surf lessons on the beach
I will meet the guest(s) at the beach, make introductions, have a conversation about the guest's experience and goals, and then begin the lesson. I will first ensure that my guest knows about ocean safety, including what a rip current is and what to do if they encounter one, and I will discuss surfing etiquette. Surf boards are provided, unless the guest wants to use their own. I'll talk about the surfboard they are using, what the different parts of the surfboard are and what they're for, and answer any questions they might have. I will then demonstrate how to surf using various techniques. I'll have the guest practice popping up on the board while the board is on the sand, giving pointers on technique, stance and foot placement. Once they feel comfortable popping up on the sand, we'll go into the water. Learning to "pop up" often takes about 5 minutes to master. The rest of the hour and a half will be in the water where I'll coach the guest on paddling, board stance, and catching a wave. When the guest is comfortable, I will push them into a wave. Those new to surfing have often caught their first wave with this instruction! Let me teach you how to surf!

  • Beach Bike & Brews Afternoon Cruise
COVID UPDATE: Booking personal groups at group rate. We're all about getting outdoors and making the most during this Pandemic while staying safe. Bikes are sanitized after each use and Hand Sanitizer is provided. We'll meet in WB , Wilmington's best local beach, for a drink and greet with your host Bradley and a quick orientation. From there, we'll hop on bikes and cruise to some of the best local hideouts on the island for drinks, some of the best sights, and to say hello to some of the local "beach bums" on the island. Then, we're headed on a journey along the south end to our famous Crystal Pier. In our final golden hour, we'll stop at the legendary local getaway before the trip concludes where we started... just before sunset, a magnificent time to catch pictures and to walk one block down to WB's famous strip for dinner at Tower 7 or to explore endless nightlife options. Lots of priceless photo opportunities and a blissful day of exploring the sunny beach weather with some of the coolest people on the island. Bradley served 10 years in the Marine Corps before absorbing the beach bum lifestyle and going back into the hospitality/tourism industry. Other things to note: I'll carry a back pack for anything you want to toss in for the trip. Uber or Lyft are the most recommended means of transportation as public parking spots fill up quick and cost $5/hr.

  • Rachel Carson Reserve's Insider Guide
Your 3-hour boat tour begins on the Beaufort Waterfront and ventures into remote areas of the Rachel Carson Reserve not accessible by the local ferry operators. You'll observe dolphins, turtles, shorebirds, and wild horses during your transit along the shores & tidal creeks of the Reserve. I'll guide your exploration of the natural history & ecosystem as we journey through tidal flats, sandy beaches, & upland growth of maritime forests. You'll learn about the history of the Reserve's most famous residents (i.e. , horses) and observe the equine marvels feeding and interacting along the edges of tidal marsh. We'll observe ospreys, eagles, & shorebirds that feed and gather in this pristine ecosystem and explore the vital role Rachel Carson played in their survival. Located along the Atlantic Flyway, the Reserve provides a resting & refueling point for numerous migratory birds. You'll have ample opportunities to capture nature with your camera or collect seashells cast ashore with the tides. I'll also provide an overview of the various research projects being conducted in the Reserve. Your tour ends where we began. Sunset Tours are also available. Look for the late afternoon times on the calendar. (Miriam has been guiding visitors through the Rachel Carson Reserve since 1997.) [Feel free to contact me to discuss possible tour dates/times not shown on the calendar.]

  • Historic Tour of Wilmington, NC
Enjoy a chronological, walking tour of old Wilmington. I will share with you facts about the founding families and the architectural beauty preserved in their historic homes which line these brick streets. We will also discuss the social and economic implications which shaped the Port City including African American, Jewish, and European contributions, the railroad, the Civil War, and World War II. We will conclude with the decline and subsequent revitalization of downtown. The 2.25 mile tour usually takes a little over 1hr and 30 mins to complete. Other things to note Summers are hot and humid! Your experience will be outdoors, so bring water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and an inquisitive mind! We do not enter any houses. In the event of bad weather, tours may be postponed, rescheduled, or canceled. My schedule is flexible, message to inquire about specific dates and times.
