Cob Cottage
Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

But it isn’t all active adventures here: rich Indigenous cultural experiences abound, and wildlife teems in the ocean, rivers, and mountains of the province. Visitors can appreciate cultural and culinary experiences in historical districts, ride horseback through seas of grassland, or enjoy secluded beaches populated by seals and cold water. Wherever you travel in beautiful British Columbia, expect to encounter vibrant urban centres, delicious global cuisine, bucolic islands, and wide-open backcountry spaces with room to roam under starlit skies.
What are the top things to do in British Columbia?
Vancouver
A walkable urban core, large verdant spaces, a lively cultural scene, and an array of excellent cuisines are just the beginning in this city by the sea. From a dense downtown peninsula anchored by Stanley Park, the city gives way to vibrant neighbourhoods accessible by cycling and walking paths, while leafy parks offer spaces for nature appreciation and stunning city views.
Whistler
As Canada’s largest and most popular ski area, the village of Whistler has grown into a bustling four-season resort featuring on- and off-slope attractions in the shadow of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. In winter, snow sports such as skiing, ice fishing, and snowshoeing rule, while summer features mountain biking, hiking, and paddle boarding, rounded out with a lively après-ski, wellness, and dining scene.
Gulf Islands
Gulf Islands is the umbrella name for the 200 islands in British Columbia located in the Salish Sea between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
