Please don't be alarmed by the occasional presence of flying pests, it is after all a cabin on a farm. The cabin is fully insulated, and has storm windows for chillier temperatures. We've slept in it comfortably down to 0 Fahrenheit ! The cabin has no electricity. PS during wet and soggy weather, it's possible that the short (50 yard) road to the cabin may have to be done on foot. We're very sorry, but because the farm is home to lots of animals, we're unable to invite pet guests. Please understand that renting the cabin does not include access to the whole farm. Please respect our privacy in regard to the house, the barns, and paddock areas that the horses call home.
“My family of NYC dwellers wanted to escape to a cabin for Thanksgiving. When we found this one with no electricity or running water and saw photos of that gorgeous stove and outdoor fire pit, we knew we had to try a pioneer Thanksgiving. When you’re unplugged, you notice things you might not normally – we enjoyed many different stunning views of the same farm and mountains depending on the time of day and the light. We arrived in the rain (Matt had kindly agreed to let me come early to beat the rain but we couldn’t make it on time) and couldn’t get our little car up the hill. Luckily, Jeanine saved the day and helped us bring our gear to the cabin! It was completely dark out before 5pm, which meant we needed to burn wood for the rest of the night. The kids loved helping us replenish the wood. I can’t gush enough about how well that little stove heats up the whole cabin. It got so hot that we were in T-shirts! We enjoyed a peaceful evening eating dinner we cooked outside on the gas stove and playing board games, and the loft sleeping area was fun for the kids. They are 11 and 16 and of course we are all attached to devices in our everyday lives, so how refreshing it was to spend true quality time together as a family. On Thanksgiving we cooked up turkey in the dutch oven and enjoyed an incredible meal, experiencing true gratitude on this holiday. Matt’s kitchen is well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. I advise you bring good knives if you’re doing serious cooking. The outhouse was not only clean, but actually smelled good thanks to some nicely-scented oils. The toilet seat was cold in there, of course, but I reserved a t-shirt to sit on, which did the trick. Our next and final day was sunny, so we enjoyed more time outdoors hanging with the horses and cows on the farm. We did take a trip to Lake George for dinner but couldn't wait to get back to our haven to cuddle by the fire and light candles. I was worried when we left that we’d gone through too much wood and propane, but Matt kindly said that’s what it’s there for! We intend to return in the summer to enjoy local hikes, and just may be back for another pioneer Thanksgiving!”
A quiet guest house in the country outside bustling downtown Saratoga Springs.
“We really enjoyed our stay in Allison's guest house! It's out in a beautiful, peaceful country setting. The Queen bed was very comfortable and we appreciated that there was air conditioning and a ceiling fan to keep us cool as we stayed during a hot spell. There's a fridge/freezer which came in handy to keep left overs from that night's dinner cold. Coffee, tea and some breakfast items were available. We enjoyed going for a quiet, peaceful walk our last night there...beautiful! We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area. Thank You, Bill and Margie Putt”
