The Oriental Brewhouse

A Grade 11 listed Elizabethan Lincolnshire Longhouse next to the imposing stone Georgian Priory House, noted by TV appearances featuring its unusual interior. Huge chestnut, oak and beech trees welcome you through the leafy wooded drive. Formerly a provider of ales to Priory House and its servants it is now a romantic hideaway with a touch of baronial splendour and oodles of exotica. Relax in the foliage filled conservatory. The spacious oak beamed lounge combines the comfort of the cosy sofas with antique furniture and ethnic art. Curl up in front of the fire and the 42” plasma TV. A traditional Persian carpet softens the medieval style terracotta floor. A pretty little French chandelier illuminates the dining table and leopard skin curtains from the famous Biba's in the 1970's provide a feeing of warmth and privacy. The Inglenook fireplace features a log burning stove. An intricately carved Indian screen covers one wall, installed by the explorer and mystic Sir Francis Younghusband who brought it back from Karachi after he led the British Army into Lassa, Tibet in 1904. A cast iron spiral staircase takes you to the minstrel's gallery bedroom and a secret door in the screen leads to the kitchen and shower room. The Indian theme is continued in the designer built kitchen, incorporating an Edwardian brown glazed sink and a brand new Rangemaster cooker with ceramic hob. You will find everything you need for grand cooking including some basic provisions and condiments in the store cupboard. The shower room features a separate WC and the original decorated Victorian hand basin. We are pet friendly with a small charge and can also put extra beds in the lounge for children. Host a "house party" for family and friends by combining it with the two lovely guest rooms in the adjoining Priory House. You have your own private entrance through your conservatory, filled with foliage, settee and bistro chairs for your morning coffee. Outside the front you have secure parking and garden furniture. There is also access to the walled garden and we can give you a guided tour of the fascinating interior of Priory House which is licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies. As we live next door in Priory House we are on hand to help in any way and here to welcome you when you arrive. We like to get an email or phone call from you so that we have an estimated time of arrival and can discuss any special requests you may have. You can ring us on (phone number hidden) or simply knock on our front door if you need us during your stay. We can also give you more information on local shops, restaurants and pubs. But we know that privacy is the key to enjoying your holiday. It is your own special place! Priory House and the Oriental Brewhouse sit in their own private grounds of one and a half acres. Situated in a quiet part of Long Bennington village near the church we are a short walk or drive to our village shops and three pub/restuarants. There is also a coffee shop and a fish and chip shop as well as a post office/general store and family butchers/grocery shop and a newsagents. If you want a special meal we can recommend The Reindeer Inn. Booking is advised especially at weekends which we will do for you if you want. Newark historic market town is only 6 miles north on the A1 and full of independant shops, coffee shops and restaurants. We love the market square with it's Town Hall and old buildings and there is a market every day except Tuesday and Sunday, a flea market on Mondays and Thursdays. Newark is renowned for it's antique shops. Grantham is the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher and has a market on Saturdays. Both towns have many supermarkets. If you like walking or cycling we are on the Viking Way and have many public footpaths across country fields in the village. There is plenty of parking space in the in/out gated drive. The village is in between Newark and Grantham on the A1. There are railway stations at Newark and Grantham too, from London Kings Cross, with taxies available. There is a bus service to both towns conveniently along Church Street outside the house, timetable available. The nearest airport is East Midlands 35 miles away, where you can hire a car. Your hosts, Roger and Carole, are both artists in fashion and sculpture. So don't expect a minimalist interior here! We are obsessed with collections and decoration. You will find African carved furniture, an Indian dowry chest brought back by us from Rajastan, Chinese coffee table and Spanish red and gold chairs, all mixed up with comfy feather sofas and ornamental cushions. But somehow it all goes together. As one of our comments in the visitor's book for Priory House B&B says "A visual feast! Beautiful, eclectic, slightly mad but great fun and a wonderfully interesting place to stay"
