Stay in the private wing of our house in a converted farm, set in 4 acres of the beautiful East Devon countryside. We try to be as eco friendly as possible growing most of our own fruit and vegetables. We keep hens that provide us with delicious eggs and bee hives will arrive in April. Enjoy strolling around our wild flower meadow and newly planted vineyard. Spend cosy winter evenings around the log burning stove. We are happy to have a well behaved dog to stay.
“What a beautiful place and a charming host! Cosy, spotlessly clean and stylish accommodation in an idyllic, quiet setting yet only a short hop to Exeter. Deborah provided home baked bread, plus daily croissants, fresh eggs, butter, tea, coffee (thankfully including decaf), fresh orange juice, marmalade and jam. There's parking right outside the entrance, and everything's on the ground floor, so ideal for anyone who can't deal with stairs. A great shower, full sized bathtub, king size bed with good quality mattress, a small but adequate fridge, an egg cooker, kettle and all the crockery and cutlery you are likely to need. French doors to a delightful patio with tables and chairs overlooking a very pretty, sheltered garden. Adjacent to the Gate House there's a wonderful enclosed field and meadow which our dogs enjoyed exploring. There's a small vegetable plot protected against wild animals using a low voltage electric fence, but our two dogs kept week away from that and the flock of chickens who also call this delightful place "home". There's an excellent log burner in the sitting room, a Freesat tv and (somewhat patchy) WI-FI. Easily "five star" accommodation and six star location and hospitality (exceptional).”
Julian and Hilary will offer a warm welcome and hope your stay at The Pea (aka The Park of Economic Achievements) will be a delight. The house is a 16th Century cottage full of character in the middle of Whimple. There are two guest rooms (this is the smaller of the two). Exeter Airport is a 10 mins drive and a lift to the airport can be arranged. There are two pubs which both serve food in the village. Exeter is 8 miles away.
“What an amazing place to stay. I cannot stress how welcome Julian and Hilary made me feel during my 3-night stay. Their hospitality was next level, even inviting me to supper with them one evening. It really was a homely environment and exceptionally clean. If you get chance take a look in the downstairs bathroom at their wonderful collection of airline posters. Already looking forward to going back and visiting them in the future.”
Hayes End is a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom single storey cottage located in the popular village of Whimple in East Devon. It is a short walk from a shop, 2 pubs and a train station and is a great base from which to explore the many delights of Devon. Fully equipped kitchen, 2 king sized beds (one of which can be split into singles - an extra bed available for families of 5), sitting/dining room with wood burner. The cottage has parking for 2 cars and a small courtyard garden for bbqs.
“Can't recommend this cottage enough! Very well maintained, two large bedrooms with comfy beds and beautiful interior decor and fabrics. The kitchen is small but perfectly adequate. There isn't a washing machine so if you're staying more than a few days you may like to take that into account (though I'm sure Emma would let you run a load through her washing machine). The village itself is a great base for getting in and around Exeter. The Thirsty Farmer is a lovely village pub and the local shop and fish and chip van on a Friday evening are great. The living room space is small but adequate unless you plan to spend all day inside (and why would you!) and Emma is on hand for any local tips. We recommend brunch/lunch at Greendale Farm and Darts Farm too. Both great if you have children too as there are animals/playgrounds on site. Great cottage, excellent host and we will be back!”
