“Our stay at Cecilia’s place was exceptional and without fault. Beautiful hillside location built above the small boutique winery, the views over the surrounding vineyards is superb. Cecilia has been our best host during our nine weeks of travel and we certainly hope to visit again. The 2 bedroom stone villa is very well appointed even with local wines and olive oil on sale at very reasonable prices. The complimentary Port was great! Highly recommend for short or long stays to explore the many highlights and wonderful scenery Douro Valley offers. - Doug (Mildura - Australia)”

“Domaine Casa Valenca is a great place, it sits atop the mountain in the small village of Valenca Do Douro which is approx 15-18 minutes drive to the village of Pinhao on the Douro River. The road up the mountain can be a bit intimidating as it’s steep and narrow but it’s safe enough if you take your time! When you arrive at the house there is a gated entry and ample parking. The interior decor is modern and stylish, the kitchen is well equipped and the bed is comfortable! The living room couch is a pullout and therefore not the most comfortable but certainly acceptable! The grounds of the house area amazing, there are olive trees on site and they even make a commercial olive oil that you can buy in Pinhao, the house also has several different fruit trees including Persimmons. The best part for me was the vineyards attached to the property, there are approx 20 or so rows of vines and at the far end of the property is an old stone winery, the roof is gone but the walls and granite lagares remain intact. Every morning there are a few pastry trucks that come to the front gate and you can get fresh pastry and bread every morning! The first truck comes between 8:45-9:00am. If you plan to cook at the house it’s a great option but it’s not easy to get much in the way of groceries in Pinhao, very limited supply, you need to drive approx 30 minutes to Lamego or Viseu to the Continente grocery stores, groceries are super affordable! There is a great wine shop in Pinhao up near the end of the Main Street called Wine by Time, they have a great selection of Portuguese table wines and ports, the owner is friendly and knowledgeable. Lastly there is a very sweet older gentleman that lives in the house directly in front down the mountain, he is super friendly and maybe a bit lonely, his name is Cesar, make sure to say hello although he really only speaks Portuguese.”
