This idyllic cottage was the original post office of the old mining village of Blackball until 1988, and is a humble yet comfortable place to unwind while you explore the beautiful surrounds of the Paparoa National Park. Being right in the heart of the former coal mining village, you’ll be kept well fed and watered at three local pubs the village has to offer, and entertained by our towns gutsy past and its friendly locals. We look forward to welcoming you to our place on the plateau.
“We are 3 adults and really enjoyed staying at this property. It was beautifully clean the beds were great and the wood fire burner lovely and cosy in the evening. Being right in the centre of the village was great as we had a choice of 3 different places to eat. We loved it and would definitely stay again.”
The Blackball Jailhouse is formerly Blackball's Police station. The original jail cell is out back and can sleep 8 and will be available for hire later this year. The house is located in a lovely rural outlook with a view of the Paparoa range. Relax and have a drink on the back verandah and enjoy the peaceful setting. The property is fully fenced, secure and pets are welcome, please contact owner prior to your arrival. Please note I changed name and reviews are listed by Sammy’s Cottage
“The mistake would be not to stop at Gale! A real favorite for this old police station transformed into a B&B. The breakfast is excellent and the welcome from Gale is perfect! She has countless anecdotes and stories on the corner. Do not miss the buzz of the local pub, formerly "the Hilton", renamed "The Blackball Hilton". The hotel firm does not like plagiarism ... Even if they were there before !!! The food is super good, and it's French who say it. In short, a nice meeting :)”

“Joy was amazing, she showed us around to the cute animals and allowed us to feed/play with them. Really friendly and helpful with advise on the area. She was very generous, we absolutely enjoyed it!”
