Our home is one of the top-rated in Costa Rica. Guests enjoy splendid views and privacy yet are close to many attractions and amenities. Experience an "authentic" Tico experience in a picturesque and friendly village just 7 km from Arenal Volcano.
“El Castillo en Las Nubes is located on a prime piece of real estate up in the mountains of El Castillo, with a killer view of the lake and volcano. Everything about the place is serene and relaxing, with immaculate landscaping and a clean, spacious home. The closed in porch with windows was a favorite spot of ours, giving us the flexibility to enjoy the nice breeze or just sit and watch the sudden weather changes with the windows closed. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place to do it. Some things to note: at least when we stayed, the house next door was under construction, so it was a little noisy from about 8am to 4/5pm on weekdays, but it wasn't all that bad. You should definitely have a rental car for this portion of your trip, and know that the roads leading up to the home, as advertised, are very rough--just take it slow. You will have to drive 30-45 minutes to most activities in the La Fortuna area, but it's well worth it. El Castillo is a nice small town, and there are lots of amazing restaurants nearby (definitely stop at La Ventanita for a burrito and milkshake). Lastly, though we didn't meet them, the hosts, Tomas and Anita, were quick to respond and very helpful answering questions. And John's instructions after booking were extremely thorough and helpful. Come here to get a little distance from the tourists and soak in the peace and quiet. Don't miss the chance to enjoy this place!”
Cool and cozy upstairs apartment with wrap around balcony in a quiet neighborhood of El Castillo, a small village nested between lake and the foothills of NP Volcan Arenal. Ideal for nature lovers, couples and families, both the low key and the high adrenaline. Just a walk, a hike or a short drive away is a plethora of activities from private rain forest hikes to falls and rivers, horse back rides, zip lines, hanging bridges, hot springs, kayaking and a selection of restaurants.
“We stayed here 6 nights, and not a dull moment! This place is comfortable, immaculate, with delightful cross-breezes. We heard howler monkeys, heard and saw many birds. There are a few places to eat within one km, and we’ve had only good food experiences. The kitchen is well-appointed, and there are two little grocery stores within 0.7km. If you want to shop for more, you need a car to go to La Fortuna, about 25 mins away. Walking is up- and downhill. I highly recommend taking the fermentation workshop with Tomas. It’s about the world around us, about life, and yes, a lot about fermentation! The Food Forest day is awesome, with gorgeous views, pastures healing back to a forest that provides for humans, gently and generously. Then, El Castillo has a wonderful butterfly conservatory, and a snake zoo. The guide, Victor, is very knowledgeable. One night only does not do El Castillo justice.”
STUNNING house with a SPECTACULAR view of the Lake and Arenal Volcano. You will experience a pacefull and one of the MOST relaxing staying in Costa Rica. Our house is PERFECT for couples or families who wish to be surrounded in harmony with nature, enjoy a bonfire next to the starry sky or just swim for a while in the waters of Lake Arenal at no cost. Just 25 from most tourist attractions.
“100% recommend! It is the most beautiful view you will have! There are glass windows on the deck to open and enjoy the breeze, plus the number one view of the volcano and lake Arenal. A 2 minute walk down to the lake. Plus it is close to restaurants, all the tourist attractions (without feeling you are in the middle of a tourist area). We were 5 minutes away from the best zip lining in the country (I recommend the sky limit package, it includes hanging bridges, tarzan jump, superman zip line) , volcano park, observatory with excellent hiking, even an easy hike to a waterfall, butterfly exhibit (highly recommend), 20 minutes from hot springs. This home was clean, modern, had all amenities we needed. P.s. we drank tap water there at every restaurant, it is completely fine! We also talked to the owners and they arranged a day of fishing on lake Arenal for rainbow bass, unfortunately we didn't catch any but we caught machaca. (Thank you for arranging that, we thoroughly enjoyed it). Any who, we were there mid March, it was definitely hot in the rain forrest, wear uv long sleeve fast dry clothes and good shoes. Up at the house, it is a comfortable breeze, it felt so relaxing. MAJOR DRIVING TIP: Don't plan on coming along the southern road, we made that mistake and after crossing 3 rivers we got to a river we could not cross with our 4 wheel drive suv, only 2k from our stay, we had to turn around and drive 2.5 hour around the lake. You will not be able to cross unless you have a humvee or snorkel on your truck! That was a disappointment, but definitely our fault hahaha! All in all, we highly recommend this place, it was perfect!”
