  • Josh offers a REALLY nice, BIG room in his beautiful Old Louisville home. GREAT location on quiet street surrounded by many historic homes in Old Louisville. Easy entry and plenty of street parking.

  • Great place centrally located to most neighborhoods in town. The check in process was easy and josh was a great communicator through text. The room we stayed in was awesome. Super clean and luxurious. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Excellent value. Great location. Beautiful and clean. The bed was amazing. Will stay again some day.

    Deborah2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed again and loved it as the first time. Josh added some thoughtful things, such as a love seat and there are ear plugs in case... It is an otherwise quite neighborhood that is getting developed truly lovely with flowers and family friendly.

    Michael2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home and decor. Great neighborhood and location.

    Jesse2019-02-03T00:00:00Z

    Corey2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful Victorian home is in a gorgeous neighbourhood that just begs you to go for a walk and explore. The accommodations are excellent. We were pleased at the level of privacy and the ability to come and go as our personal schedule dictated. And the bed... so comfy and cozy!! The location is great - just a short drive from downtown, and just a short drive from Churchill Downs. And if you're looking for a nearby breakfast place, check out the nearby Burger Boy Diner. Very close and delicious. A great pairing with this AirBNB!

Your private studio apartment on the 3rd floor of our home is a great space in a wonderful location (easy access to all of Louisville but in the charm of Old Lou). There is a full size bed tucked into a nook to provide you with sleeping comfort while the rest of the apartment is bright and light. There is a complete kitchen with all of the necessary cooking utensils, a claw foot tub in the spacious bathroom and a couch that folds out into a bed that could accommodate another person.
The indoor staircase leads you from the front porch to your Louisville getaway. You can relax on the couch and watch tv (local HD channels and Netflix), take a relaxing bubble bath in the claw foot tub, look at downtown from the front windows, cook a meal in the full kitchen, catch up on reading in the cozy bed, hang out on the front porch to enjoy a cocktail or, if you must, get some work done from the comfort of the table/desk. We have all you need here in the studio! The hardwood floors are smooth and clean, the rugs are collected from around the world. There are glassware options so you can pour your drink just so, and if you forget your shampoo there’s some on hand. Anticipating your needs is what motivates me...try me!
Old Louisville is the largest collection of Victorian homes in the United States. The architecture is phenomenal and the people are interesting. There is an eclectic mix in Old Lou and we hope that you can walk around and appreciate what once was and what is. Just blocks from Central Park, St James Court and some local eateries, you can stay in our neighborhood the entire trip or venture to other parts of Louisville as you wish. From here all of Louisville is within reach, but we’re especially close to Downtown and UoL and you can even take a free bus to get to either.
  • Great place and an awesome host!

    Gabriela2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and comfortable and close to downtown. Hope to stay there again.

  • Amity's home is in the heart of Louisville. It's near a lot of public transportation options and easily accessible for lyft/Uber. The space was clean and organized. It has a sort of scandanavian style decor which I loved! So much light comes into the space. We were very happy with the entire stay! We would stay again in a heartbeat.

    Taylor2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy apartment in a charming neighborhood that is convenient to both downtown and to Churchill Downs. Amity was an incredible host. She was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. She certainly understands the needs of the travelers she hosts. Not only would I recommend this great place to stay, I plan on staying there again myself!

    John2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amity's studio apartment in Old Louisville was the perfect place to stay for a visit to the city. The apartment is beautifully decorated and super convenient to Old Louisville and the rest of the city. Amity sent me a very detailed welcome guide before my arrival which was very helpful, though I didn't actually see her during my stay. The apartment is very private and you have your own entrance separate from the rest of the house. Amity even left some chocolates as a welcome gift. A beautiful and thoughtful Airbnb, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I'm ever back in Louisville.

    James2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute cozy apartment on the 3rd floor of this house. Amity was super responsive and a wonderful host. You have your own entrance to get up the apartment so privacy is easy. You feel like you have the place to yourself. The house is a little over a mile from downtown. It was like a 5 min uber to get down there or like a 25 min walk. We chose to walk a lot because it was such beautiful weather. Great place to stay in Louisville. An awesome bang for your buck

    Matthew2019-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great value, clean place and helpful hosts!

    Liam2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • My stay with Amity and her husband was amazing! Not only was the studio apartment beautifully decorated and a great space but they also helped me with places to visit, sights to see, and even driving me to get grocery’s! The house it located in a great area close to Central Park and a great 15 minute walk to the downtown area. Also it was very close to the organization I was working at for the week. I would definitely stay here again and taste those delicious homemade bourbon balls again! Thank you both for such an incredible stay :)

  • Awesome place for a single guest or a couple to stay. Very quiet street and a very private unit to stay in with a beautiful kitchen and bedroom. Awesome value for what it is. I will definitely be checking to see if this space is available next time I travel to Louisville.

    Adrian2018-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a cozy and comfortable space this is it. Very private and quite. The outdoor sitting area and garden are great. Very convenient to all things in Old Louisville.

    Jean2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The carriage house was very warm and inviting. Everything was very comfortable wish we would’ve had more time to stay here

    Christianna2018-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely amazing! My husband and I were amazed at all the old beautiful historic homes in the area and walked around just to sight see the architecture. Josh’s carriage home was very clean and the decorations and style of it were Old World charm and super charming. We liked being in the air bnb as much as going out and visiting some local taverns and sight seeing. The bed was comfy! He had a magazine of restaurants nearby. All in all, we will definitely go back to stay there if ever in the Louisville area again.

    Ariel2018-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Really beautiful unit with all necessary amenities. Would stay again.

    Tyler2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • our stay at Josh's place was awesome the house was very clean and bed was prettty comfortable, very cool little cottage would definitely stay there again

    Blake2017-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • This place is AMAZING. Tons of space, beautiful grounds, ultra comfy, and sparkling clean. This was the rare stay where I was tempted to stay in rather than go out and explore. The kitchen was better equipped than my home, the bed was very comfortable, and overall the place beats many hotels I've stayed in. Got to meet Josh, who is a cool, personable guy with great tips on the city. (Note: I was rushed by the hounds, who happened to be in the yard at one point when I was leaving. If this happens to you, don't panic. They are as friendly as can be and just want to love on you!)

This is our neat and rather fab Victorian house near Central Park in Old Louisville, shared among a few young professionals. We're out of town often, so this is a great place for light & independent travelers. It's comfortable to hang out in, or use as a base to explore from. Note: this room is for rent for no less than 30 days at a time.
This is a room within our 130-year old house at the north end of Old Louisville, directly south of the downtown museum district, and few blocks north of Central Park (close to St James Court). The existing house is actually the remaining top two floors of the 3-story building, the 1st floor of which was converted to a bakery in 1922. The total living space is 2000 sqft. Our place is always undergoing some renovation, but it's 'mostly done,' and quite comfortable. We have a large, fenced back yard, and rooftop deck (best room in the house Spring through Fall). The guest room is private, small but with a 10' ceiling and full-size loft bed; it can accommodate two 'fit' people. The house is shared among several young professionals (in the art/design and culinary fields) with varying schedules; it is unlikely to see us all at the same time. We also have a feist (small dog, in our portraits) who is quite friendly. Nota Bene: we do our best to keep things tidy and put together, but this is our home, and we do have lives within and without -- not all is perfect. We welcome you into our home; please remember that it is that and not a hotel.
Old Louisville is the most densely populated and diverse neighborhood in Louisville. We have the most intact neighborhood of Victorian homes after New York City. Century-old trees and the park nearby make this a lovely place to walk around.
  • Jeff and Bess were very friendly, their place is within walking distance from the centre of Louisville, where there is plenty to do. Both Jeff and Bess went out of their way to help us and make us feel at home. Thanks for a great stay in Louisville.

    David2012-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • I was in town for a big theatre convention trying to get a job for after graduation. I didn't get to see much of Jeff and Bess because I had to leave early and didn't get back until late each night, but when I did see them, they were absolutely lovely people. The house was very nice and the room was comfortable. Jeff and Bess definitely made me feel at home. All of the animals were a wonderful addition the stay, too!

    Geoffrey2013-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff and Bess are very welcoming. Their house is superbly remodeled! Thank you for being such great hosts!

    Jamie2012-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • The room was quiet and cozy, I slept great. There is a terrific soul food restaurant right next door that is a definite must-visit. Jeff and Bess are very considerate hosts, and the other housemates are quite friendly. The rooftop porch is pleasant, and the dog and cat are well behaved.

  • Really good people!! We loved living there!!

    Kristian2013-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • I had a very good time in Louisville. The place is indeed cozy and it's very conveniently located close to downtown. Everyone was nice and friendly, the place is clean, the price is very good -- I definitely recommend staying here. I've been here twice. Good place, good people.

    Juan2014-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff and Bess were great, I really felt at home in such a short time it was pretty amazing! They were very accommodating, friendly, and interested in making sure that I was comfortable and had everything I needed. I was mostly out for a conference or in recharging my batteries, but I hope that I'll get another chance to come out and take up on the offer to view the galleries! :) oh, and LOVE the dogs!! :D

    Marianne2012-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • I had a very pleasant and quiet stay at Jeff's place. Ben (I believe) who stays there long-term greeted me when I checked in and offered to get grocery items I may need. There was plenty of towels and shampoo products, and I definitely recommend staying here for several days or longer, peaceful and tidy place near downtown L'ville and other attractions.

  • We love the fact it seemed like home, not a stuffy hotel room. A full kitchen, front room; and a couch and recliner was great. We both sleep in recliners and have for years. Most hotels do not have comfy chairs or couches. In fact my husband fell asleep on the couch. The TV channels were awesome and we watched TV well pass midnight. Rose was very helpful. At first we thought it was not in the best neighbor but felt safe in our room.

  • We came in for Derby weekend, and I sincerely doubt we could have found a better place to stay. The location was absolutely perfect, the private apartment was immaculate, and our host, Laurie, had provided and thought of everything! I couldn’t have been more happy with the trip, and would highly recommend this place to any travelers wanting to see Old Louisville!

    Robert2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place in a great neighborhood.

    Cam2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying in this apartment. It was easy to connect with Laurie about logistics before our stay, and she made us feel welcome once we arrived. The apartment itself is beautiful and felt very private - it has its own entrance and we never heard anything happening downstairs. There's space for cooking and lounging... We wish we could've stayed much longer!

    Catherine2015-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place was close to downtown and a couple places to eat. The neighborhood was safe and we walked from downtown as it was Thunder Over Louisville and could not get an uber back. The place was bigger than I anticipated and had everything one would need. We only stayed one night but I would definitely return.

    Jodi2018-04-22T00:00:00Z

  • Anne is an amazing hostess who provided a lot of extra touches for our stay! She was very easy to communicate with and everything was as pictured. The home was very clean and nicely furnished, and the location couldn’t be beat! My children and I had a lovely visit!

    Ally2018-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Anne's apartment. It is an old building with very urban surroundings (and noise), but was very clean and comfortable for our stay. Our biggest complaint was that the second bed was a futon-like bed. Anne had provided extra bedding to try to make it comfortable and it worked ok for our toddler. But an adult would have been very uncomfortable on the bed and is is a stretch to list this house as a two-bed rental. We also had some issues with climate control that were likely due to the age of the building and lack of an updated HVAC system.

    Brendan2017-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! Very vintage looking and has a warm home feeling. Clean, comfortably, water in the frig, and a few snacks on the counter. The bed in the main bedroom is EVERYTHING. Best bed you'll ever sleep on. This spot is close to downtown with $5-$6 uber rides to most places located there. Walkable to some shops and corner stores. Super close to a soul food restaurant called Shirley Mae's. It's the best for southern cuisine and some of Louisville's finest fried chicken! The WIFI was a tad slow for my taste, but it works completely and the Netflix access was a plus! Anne was also very responsive and receptive to questions. She responds quickly and even accomodated a late check out at short notice due to my flight getting suddenly cancelled and rescheduled two hours before I was supppsed to check out. I would definitely stay here again and I recommend this spot for anyone on business or vacation.

  • Luanne was a very gracious host. Communication was excellent. The apt. Is a lovely renovated historic home that was well stocked with linen and a few extra amenities. Luanne was very informative of the area restaurants. If I find myself returning to Louisville I will definitely stay again!

The bed is perfect and the long couch is easy to use as a futon for a second guest. A/C works fine. Parking is easy and plentiful on the street. Ashley the host is very responsive to any extra requests. Also, there is a great little breakfast/burger joint half a block away, and a rare gem of a home-style restaurant a half mile away (Cottage Inn on Eastern Parkway). Downtown is super-handy too with I-65 or even on Brook St. it’s 7 minutes to downtown. Nice place, great value - highly recommended!

  • Ashley’s is a private, and beautiful space, in the heart of Louisville!

  • Great space, very comfortable. Ashley's quick responses saved us from locking ourselves out of the suite

    David2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for the price. There was plenty of street parking and a cool little diner just down the street. It’s like having your own apartment in a nice neighborhood. It’s secluded, quiet, and has all the amenities you’d want.

    Will2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful neighborhood! Be sure to check out St. James Court nearby.

    Ben2019-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • This AirBnB was perfect for a Louisville Getaway! The space was clean and much larger than expected. The host was quick to respond to any questions we had. I would love to stay here again if I come back in the future!

Our Carriage House is warm and inviting to guests from all over the world. We are located close to downtown, Central Park, University of Louisville and the Bardstown Road corridor. There are so many unique shops, restaurants, bars, and places to visit close by, and some are walkable in warmer weather. The Carriage House has just undergone a complete renovation from top to bottom - we hope you love it as much as we do! Don’t let the outside fool you - the inside of our home is the treasure!
You will understand the uniqueness of the space the minute you walk in the front door. Our 100 year old former carriage shop is perfectly imperfect! The concrete foundation and super high ceiling lead you up a few steps into a modern, full sized kitchen with 4-burner gas stove/oven and full size refrigerator/freezer for our longer stay guests. The fully refinished hardwoods and glass block window provide for a homey but modern feel. As a longtime chef and restaurateur, I understand the desire for some to cook, even when they get away, so we have tried to stock our kitchen accordingly. But should you require special kitchen items, just ask us ahead of time - chances are I have it for you to use! You will love how the kitchen flows into the main living space, with 16 foot tin ceiling; it's the perfect mesh of industrial and new. The living room has a brand new leather sleeper sofa that is ready to accommodate extra guests or kids traveling with their parents. We provided a new, flat screen 40 inch TV with Roku, but with so much to do around Louisville, you may not have time to turn it on. The master is bright and airy, with a regal queen sized bed and white sheer curtains that are, well, fit for a queen! The "water closet" is separate from the shower and tub area for extra privacy! Speaking of the shower, did we mention that it is a walk-in, all tile, dual head shower? Should you feel like relaxing and winding down your day with a bath, there is a refinished, original claw foot tub to soak in. This thing is huge! Please note, in addition to the 5 steps up into the carriage house, there are 3 steps up for the bathtub and shower access. Looking for another way to unwind? Well, stroll down the hall to our "Book Nook." We have two comfortable leather reading chairs and an entire bookshelf of classics and modern titles to choose from. From the book nook, you have access to our shared courtyard. It is there that you may be greeted by the two real masters of the property, Bronx and Manhattan. Bronx is our special dog who just turned 10 but it still going strong. He survived a cancer scare a few years ago and had his lower jaw removed, but as you will see, he is the happiest dog I have ever known. Manhattan, or Hattie, is the newest addition to our family of rescues. She is soft and gray, but oh so full of life. If you are a dog person, please come out and meet them; if not, that's okay too. Please note that although we are dog people, we cannot allow pets in the carriage house. This if for your pets safety and ours. We don't even let our own dogs in there! Our courtyard has a porch swing and gas grill, although with the changing of weather, there are leaves falling every day, so it is a very rustic space right now, but you are welcome to stroll around. Please note that we have a strict no smoking policy inside the carriage house. You are welcome to smoke on the deck, but please extinguish and dispose of of butts. You will hear a few planes land, church bells or even an occasional train. You’re downtown, it’s urban, soak it in. We have added blackout curtains for the three windows on the sleeping side and added vertical blinds over the super cool glass block windows. There is parking immediately in front of the entrance that is almost always (99% of time) for our guests and it is free at all times. There are never more than a handful of cars on the street here, so parking is always available. Don’t be fooled by the exterior. This home was a commercial operation years and years ago and we have kept that same look and charm. It is industrial and does not draw a lot of attention to itself in its surroundings. But step through that blue door and you WILL be amazed.
There are so many great restaurants and bars nearby. Churchill Downs, 4th Street Live and University of Louisville are a short Uber or Lyft away. Many local spots are walking distance, including Central Park. Always stick to roads and be aware of your surroundings. There are certainly some hot spots that you can walk to: a Rite Aid, a wine bar, a brewery, several restaurants, etc. The warmer the weather, the easier it is to access more places. But everything is a short drive or Lyft ride away as well.
  • Very charming place to stay. The location is an older part of town and the outside of the building has the same appearance, but don’t let that fool you, the inside is very nice and spacious. I needed close access to the federal building, and Limerick was .7 miles away! Enjoy.

  • Exceptional Airbnb, I highly recommend and will definitely revisit their home again.

    Jason2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable space! Super cozy. The barn doors are as cool as they look :).

    Amanda2019-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cute place, nice hosts! The air conditioning was very very loud. And lots of things weren’t clean. But we are guessing the cleaning issues aren’t normal. It needs a thorough cleaning throughout. The bed was great. The pullout couch was quite uncomfortable, so it might be best for a couple.

    Marni2018-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This space is AWESOME. There is a very nice kitchen/living area as well as a BEAUTIFUL bathroom with a double shower--almost room sized, and a wonderful free standing bathtub. The toilet is in its own room. The nook is perfect for reading, but I actually used it as a small workout area. Their wifi is great too! I had no problems downloading my workouts! The kitchen is a full kitchen with all the works. The space is in Old Louisville, and very close to Nulu, Bardstown Road, downtown, Indiana (CASINO is there) and other areas of the city. It was perfect for us as we were visiting our son and daughter in law and were literally blocks away from each other. The last few days of our visit was cold and snowy weather, so the place was large enough for us to all be there and visit. I would not hesitate to recommend The Limerick House. It was a great stay. We had a small issue with the door, and Doug was there within one minute to help us!

  • We absolutely loved our stay at Doug and Amanda's adorable carriage house! The location is awesome right in Old Louisville. It is such a unique space with a beautiful open floor plan and high ceilings. It was great to have a kitchen, too! Wish we'd had time to relax in the cozy Book Nook. We will be back next time we need a place to say in Louisville!

    Hana2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Doug and Amanda's place is in a good location for getting around the Louisville area. The place is unique in it's setup. Very open so if you are traveling with others know that there is no door leading up to where the shower and tub are. It is around a corner so you don't see in. There are steps up to the tub and shower area and then you go down steps to get to the shower itself. We were there on Ash Wednesday and were very glad to find St. Louis Bertrand Catholic church directly behind the Carriage House. We only had the chance to meet Doug and he was helpful with suggestions for the area. This is our third time in staying in this area and I would recommend the Carriage house.

    Paula2018-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is adorable. I loved the dual shower head shower! It has all the amenities you could want including some welcome snacks! Doug and Amanda are super friendly and responsive. The location is okay. Definitely on the urban side. I definitely wouldn’t be walking around at night. Random people asked me for money right outside the house. It’s within 7 minutes driving of basically anything you’d want to do in Louisville, but it isn’t really at any specific attraction.

  • This home was spacious and worked very well for 8 adults. We wished the weather would have been cooler so we could have used the outdoor space. The street was very quiet and we had no trouble parking both of our cars right near the property. The space was good for entertaining with a large group. The third story could be difficult for those unable to do stairs.

  • Beautiful classic home in the Old Louisville area. 5 of us were extremely comfortable, cooked a bit, made it to the downtown Louisville sites quickly and easily. Chris was responsive and easy to work with. I’d go AirBnB this again in a heartbeat!

    Scott2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay visited for a conference. There’s a bike ride share a block away which made a nice alternative to taking the car. Just a heads up for light sleepers I’m not sure if house is on flight path but I could hear planes over head. Bought some earplugs and slept like a baby. Great value for the size would stay again.

  • Amazing old home in old Louisville. We had two families staying here over the weekend and the four bedrooms were great. The pictures really don’t do the place justice. We will rent again next year for sure. Great location to do everything. Owners responded very quickly to our questions. You will enjoy this small downtown Victorian.

Old Louisville is a historic neighborhood filled with stunning Victorian homes and located in the heart of everything. Just blocks from Central Park and St. James Court and perfectly situated between downtown and Churchill Downs. Take a walk through the alley (or around the block) for the best coffee and donuts in town at North Lime. Around the corner, you’ll find the Filson Center (a history lover’s dream) and Buck’s Restaurant, a local gem known for its old school charm, white tablecloth service, and live piano music. Old Louisville Brewery and 610 Magnolia (owned by award-winning chef Edward Lee) are a quick walk away. • Great place, great stay. Really liked it and all that... But what I really wanna talk about are the hardwood floors. My guess is that the majority of the places has beautifully refurbished original hardwood floors. I’ve never seen such awesome designs and accents along the borders and corners in hardwood floors before. Someone did some fantastic work. The owners really take pride in their place. The only negative is now my fiancée has about a thousand more designs ideas, that we’ll never get to implement. Ha! Do yourself a favor and stay here.

  • This space was absolutely perfect for our four days in L’ville. It has so much character, is impeccably decorated, and very clean. It was close to everything we wanted to do (including the amazing pasta-making experience with Joe). We were close to downtown where our training was and the Highlands (where we ate mostly). I will be staying here anytime I’m in L’ville!

  • This is a very comfortable and attractive Victorian home in a fascinating area called Old Louisville. William was a great host - friendly, helpful, and responsive. We were there two nights. Late-night cargo planes coming into the nearby airport were noisy on one of the nights, but not on the other. The flight pattern probably depends on the weather. All in all, we had a great time!

***One of America's Coolest Airbnbs - USA Today *** Comfy, clean, stylish and private 3rd floor flat in our 1887 home near downtown & NuLu. Lots of love goes into making this the perfect home for your Derby City adventures. Vertigo has the boho vibe you'd expect from a national food & travel writer's space, and as avid travelers and one of Airbnb's top superhosts (125+ 5-star reviews in a row) we know the details that make for an amazing stay so look for super comfy furnishings + fun extras.
***Featured as part of Apartment Therapy's House Tour: A Sprawling 132-Year-Old Renovated Victorian Is Filled With All Our Favorite Details (And 8 Fireplaces)*** This is a lovely, sunny top floor flat overlooking your corner of Old Louisville, a historic, residential neighborhood that's a super quick drive to top restaurants and other Louisville adventures. It's a comfy, livable space designed by a lifestyle writer and feels immediately like home. Guests have called it enchanting, compared it to a Parisian atelier -- and have been known to book a return trip while they're still here. Please read the reviews (they're all five-star) because our guests say it best. You're staying in part of our home, not someone's 'investment property' (you know, original Airbnb) and we dreamed up Vertigo from scratch, inspired by our own wanderlust. You'll find treasures from our jaunts, and unique personality. It's more than a place to sleep; it becomes part of your memorable Louisville experience. As travelers ourselves (and we've lived up here for many weeks ourselves!), we've made sure you'll have what you need – from a sparkling clean bath stocked with plush towels and luscious amenities to a comfy bed made up with heirloom quality linens. And while Louisville ordinance doesn't allow Airbnb hosts to provide food or drink, you'll get your first breakfast on us at a local cult-favorite doughnut shop. Also: personalized recommendations from your host, a writer for local and national outlets immersed in Louisville's dining and drinks culture. sᴛᴀʏ ᴀ ᴡʜɪʟᴇ *** Looking for a longer stay? We offer long stay discounts for a week or a month; just enter your dates to see the rate! *** ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴏᴜʀ ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ *** Are your dates booked, or you want fewer stairs? Check out our sister property, Little Carriage House on the Alley! https://www.airbnb.com/h/littlecarriagehouse *** ALL the DETAILS Now then. With 738 square feet altogether, here's what to expect: sʟᴇᴇᴘ + ᴄʜɪʟʟ A roomy, light-filled living/bedroom has a super comfy queen sized Tuft & Needle bed and linens from Red Land Cotton, plus a big (SO comfy!) chaise sofa and chair and Roku TV. Original hardwood floors and exposed brick and rafters make for a warm and welcoming space. A funky old wardrobe (we picked up from our favorite restaurant when they closed) provides space for your things. *** ᴇᴀᴛ, ᴅʀɪɴᴋ, ʙᴇ ᴍᴇʀʀʏ A dining room that's open to the kitchen with a farmhouse-style table (that does double duty as a work desk). By the window is a vintage rolling bar cart with a Crosley record player and stack of vinyl and a small bar stocked with shaker, glasses, and such. #justaddbourbon *** ᴄᴏᴏᴋ A kitchen under the eaves complete with a vintage stove, ikea mini-sink, small retro-style fridge and microwave, toaster, coffee pot, and good quality cooking staples. There's a set of cookware and high quality, sharp knives, plus dishes and cutlery. We lived here while renovating our house, so you can be sure it's got what you need! *** ᴡᴀsʜ ᴜᴘ A bright, clean, bathroom with step-in shower and a cocktail ledge. Just kidding, it's a niche for shampoo, but hey, no judging if you like showerbeer. :) We provide delicious toiletries from Love, Beauty & Planet, and the good toilet paper and Kleenex because: #priorities. Also little extras like make up remover, cotton swabs, and lotion. A couple of fresh white robes, and your own slippers await for even more comfort. *** ʜᴀɴɢ ᴏᴜᴛ A small balcony that overlooks our courtyard (where you're also free to chill!) and the Carriage House along with neighboring homes and businesses, with downtown Louisville's skyline a mile away. Not for the vertiginous! *** ᴍᴜsᴛ ʟᴏᴠᴇ ᴅᴏɢs We have two dogs. You will hear them bark but we discourage extracurricular barking when we're home (and we're not the stay-out-late type;). Truffle is a senior Pomeranian and Cassius Thunderpaws (aka Cash) is Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd bundle of exuberant love who wants nothing more than to meet you. Both available for cuddles! Our Carriage House across the courtyard is also dog-friendly so you may see a traveling pup. >>Bringing your own puppers? Yay! We're big fans of dog people and we'd love for you to bring your dog (that's just ONE, please, and that's not negotiable). We may be able to lend you a crate and will provide a doggie welcome kit. BUT: we require you check *before* booking and tell me about your dog (don't worry, NO size limit or breed restriction!). I'll send you our house rules for pups and ask you to agree before proceeding with booking. But first, please know they MUST be able to climb the stairs; for your safety and your dog's, we CAN'T have guests carrying a squirming sentient being up the very steep steps. The stairs at the Carriage House are much less iffy, so please consider that if these will be a problem. *** ᴏʟᴅ ʜᴏᴜsᴇ ʟᴏᴠᴇ This old house was built in 1887. We worked really (really!) hard on renovating the space but it's not perfect, and that's not what we're after. We love the character of old houses, and if you do too, we'll get along just fine. ***** THERE WILL BE RULES We don't have a ton of rules but we mean business on all of them. This is our home and we've worked incredibly hard on it and ask that you respect it, as well as the neighborhood that supported us when we won our rental license. There's no smoking (of anything) or vaping in Vertigo, on the balcony, or in the courtyard – anywhere on the property, for that matter. We are so very strict on that! Smoking = leaving. Registered guests only, and we mean that too. You've been vetted by Airbnb and I'm sure your friends are lovely, but I don't know them, and this is our home, not a place for you to host a gathering. Yes, that means even for an hour. And hi, that means inside Vertigo and in our private courtyard too. Do note we have a Nest cam that captures comings and goings on the property. If you're traveling with a dog we require that you contact us to ask for and agree to the pet rules *before* booking. You'll find we're very chill so long as you observe these house rules. ***** Party of 3? Vertigo can be a three-guest space but because of the stairs we limit younger ones to ages 12 and up. The third person gets the comfy couch, which is in the same room as the bed. ***** WANT MORE? Still reading? Awesome! Come check out more pictures and Inspiration on Insta or f-b at Vertigo Louisville.
We're in Old Louisville, in a historic, urban, primarily residential neighborhood called Limerick that's walking distance to downtown (20-30 minutes, depending on where you're headed). The amazing St. James Court, and Central Park (free summer Shakespeare shows!) are a short walk away. This is the largest concentration of Victorian homes in the country, and is a historic preservation district. Basically, you can walk around and just ogle mansions to your heart's content. You're minutes by car from Louisville's amazing restaurants and bars, in the heart of a diverse residential area that's beginning to transform into a destination in its own right. What does our diversity mean for you? You'll likely see people with different life experiences and resources than you – as someone with discretionary travel money – will have. Here's a look at what we've got nearby (15 minutes or less on foot) >A great family-owned small craft beer brewery at dog-friendly and laid back Old Louisville Brewery >Crazy good doughnuts and excellent local coffee at the awesome North Lime shop (first breakfast there is free on us!:) >The fabulous Bar Vetti with cocktails and sumptuous Italian fare that the local restaurant critic calls Louisville's best food. >Six Ten Magnolia, the flagship restaurant from James Beard award winning Edward Lee (who you may have seen on Mind of a Chef or in the New York Times). And then all sorts of cool little nooks and crannies I can't wait to tell you about. Old Louisville isn't on the radar of many travel writers so you can really stumble across some cool off the beaten track places -- with the right guide ;)
  • Amazing attention to detail at Vertigo. We felt right at home and had everything we needed and more. We traveled with our dog and Dana and Brian went above and beyond to make him feel just as welcome as us. Will definitely stay at Vertigo again!

    Shanna2018-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • To begin: our stay at Vertigo was wonderful! The apartment itself was a great use of the space, and probably the most unique and stylish place we’ve stayed with airbnb yet! The bedroom was spacious, with a nice corner sofa and TV including all the streaming services for those rainy evenings. The kitchen/dining area had good facilities provided and didn’t leave us lacking at all. The bathroom was clean and nice, with a spacious shower and nice provision of toiletries, cotton pads etc. Dana was a wonderful host, and was able to give us helpful tips about the area and places to go for food, drink and fun. The location was great, within walking distance of 4th street and the city centre attractions, as well as a few good locations the other way (like Old Lou with Central Park and Belgravia Court). It’s only 10 minutes from the airport by car/Uber/Lyft, and similar from most other locations we wanted to go to. Overall, this was a great place to stay in Louisville and made the trip very memorable and enjoyable. Many thanks to Dana and her family!

  • I had a great stay at vertigo. My host was extremely pleasant, helpful, and easy to communicate with. The apartment was clean and pleasant. I especially appreciated the coffee and and small breakfast items. Thank you dana.

  • This place is amazing. Dana went out of her way to put personalized touches in the place and was very friendly and helpful. Stairs are steep! We brought our German Shepherd and he was too big of a baby to climb them, but Dana and Brian were very accommodating. They has great recommendations and we had a great stay! The walk around Old Louisville with Dana and Cash is a great time as well! We will definitely be back.

  • Hip -hipster - kitchy-vintage vibe-not for the out of shape traveler but well worth the stairs once u get to the top. Dana has thought of everything a hostess should.

  • This was the most wonderful place to stay. I joked with my husband that everything I wanted to do/see was within 15 minutes. Didn't matter if it was the zoo, shopping or entertainment always 15 minutes away. The flat is beautifully refinished and it felt just like home.

  • Above and beyond what you would expect from an Airbnb, Vertigo is a beautiful, homely space thoughtfully designed by Dana and Brian. On top of a homemade guidebook full of ideas, Dana and Brian were also forthcoming with suggested activities and great dining opportunities. They couldn’t have been more welcoming and made their home feel like our own. We also enjoyed meeting and cuddling their two dogs, who were both calm and friendly. Without a doubt, the best Airbnb we have ever experienced.

    Tom2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Vertigo was exceptional. This was mine and my boyfriend's first airbnb experience and we could not have asked for a better host or a better space to spend our weekend and my spring break. Dana gave tips, recommendations, and was easy and lovely to converse with. She truly thought of everything and we did not want for anything during our stay amenity wise. We loved staying in Old Louisville and we would definitely return to Vertigo should we make another trip to Louisville!

  • Herb welcomed us with open arms and Derby memorabilia! We arrived getting a tour of the house and our fellow house mates. Herb had the kitchen stocked, drinks to sip on, and was available at a moments notice. Herb answers all questions timely. I asked Herb at the 11th hour for a mini fridge in the room and he had it stocked and waiting for us when we arrived. I highly recommend staying at one of Herb's places. Very charming, clean , comfortable historical home in close proximity to dining and grocery store.

  • Our host Herb was very accommodating. The spot was clean, dated, yet cozy. Central heating and cooling is updated. It is close to the Zero bus, which is a free shuttle to downtown. Would recommend and stay again.

  • The artists felt welcomed and the space fit their needs exactly. Thank you Herb!

    Joshua2015-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • It was a nice experience I enjoyed the hospitality of the hosts, Chris and Marco, and the location not far from downtown. I would stay in there again if I had to come to Louisville.

  • Dibs on booking this Airbnb for next years Festival as it was PERFECT for our needs in the wonderful city of Louisville. Actually, there are 3 floors of rooms so feel free Festival goers to request 2nd and 3rd floor rooms (we'll take the lower level in 2019). The on-site host was more like a friend than an host. He picked up on our "loves" and each night I was treated to my favorite chocolate....and the other 2 girls got the royal treatment also. A free bus to get you downtown is just a block away. Great local restaurants in walking or Uber distance. If you love old homes and lovely neighborhoods to walk, this place is for you. If you like the idea of a local artist changing out the decor frequently, this is your place. If you like friendly host(s) this IS THE PLACE. In the shared living room space you can watch old movies on a projector while sipping your favorite wine, cook a meal in the shared kitchen and just basically feel at home. You even have access to the laundry room which was very handy with all of our mud/water soaked festival clothes! Lots to see and do in Louisville so go feel at home with Herb, Chris, and Marco!

  • Very cool location and space. Christopher met me personally and showed me around the house and the room. It almost feels like a grand, old hotel. This room in particular has a great birds-eye view of Old Louisville.. sit in the chair be the window and take in the city. I've never been given a clean, fresh bath mat before, that was a nice touch!

  • I had a wonderful month in Louisville thanks in large part to the hospitality and accomodations that Kreid provided. The apartment is a comfortable and well-stocked home away from home.

    Michael2015-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is beautiful, spacious and clean as pictured. We had beautiful sunlight, room to relax, cook meals and enjoy the patio. Will definitely stay again.

    Drew2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our host went above and beyond for us to feel welcome. He secured an air mattress so that our group of 4 could be accommodated comfortably, left detailed instructions on how to make ourselves at home upon our arrival, and was flexible with the checkout time. I have nothing negative to say about this host and would recommend him to anyone looking for a true Airbnb experience.

    Ross2016-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful, brief stay and would definitely recommend Johnathan's place!

    Jennifer2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect! It is absolutely gorgeous, precisely as pictured, and in a great location. It was just the space that we needed for a little getaway weekend. The hosts were friendly and inviting and did everything to make us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back again myself in the future.

    LindsAy2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathan is a warm, welcoming and respectful host! HIs home is in a lovely historic neighborhood with lots of restaurants a short drive away. We used Louisville as a home base for the bourbon trail, a bit of a drive, but the town, the food, the atmosphere was worth it!

    Jennie2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, very clean and comfortable. Communication was also fantastic. First airbnb experience and it was easy.

    Aly2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Airbnb continues to be my preference for travel. Jonathan’s apartment is bright and cozy with charming design and decor. As a host, he was super-accommodating especially with check-in/check-out which really made all the difference for our family since we had a 10-hour road trip ahead of us. My only regret is that we were home for the holiday, so much of our exploration time was spent with family of course. I would stay here again and I’d definitely explore more of Old Louisville and it’s walking tours.

Cozy up over a former stable at our 1887 home in Old Louisville near downtown. Lots of love & attention go into making Little Carriage House on the Alley the perfect home for your Derby City adventures. The bohemian studio-ish space has all the design-forward touches you'd expect from a national lifestyle writer, and you'll have access to inside tips from your host - I've written about Louisville's food and bourbon scene for 10 years! **This space was featured on design site Apartment Therapy**
This is your own four walls in a studio style flat over a former stable in Old Louisville, an intriguing, historic and primarily residential neighborhood that's a super quick drive to top restaurants and other adventures in Louisville. Inspired by our own world travels we created this space from scratch to be a comfy and livable space for travelers looking for something a little edgier. You're staying in part of our home, not someone's 'investment property,' and it feels immediately personal. It's more than a place to crash; Little Carriage House is a memorable part of your Louisville experience. *** oh no, your dates are booked? Try other our listing at https://www.airbnb.com/h/vertigolouisville *** Now then. With 600+ square feet altogether, here's what to expect: SLEEP AND CHILL A roomy, light-filled living/bedroom has a super comfy queen sized Tuft & Needle bed and high-quality linens (that's so important!) and a blue velvet small sofa and ottoman you will want to Instagram immediately. Roku TV comes preloaded with Netflix. Exposed, limewashed by hand brick, and touches like vintage 2x4s as trim make for a rustic/industrial vibe; and landed this space on home design site Apartment Therapy. [Look up "A Sprawling 132-Year-Old Renovated Victorian Is Filled With All Our Favorite Details (And 8 Fireplaces)"!] A small rack with hangers provides space for your things. There's a window unit AC in here to keep things cool. ***** EAT, DRINK, BE MERRY A small dining room that's open to the kitchen has a vintage dining table (that does double duty as a work desk) and shelving crafted of reclaimed Kentucky horse farm fencing. The battered, beaten wood floor planks are original. Another window unit AC in here cools this area. ***** COOK The little kitchen is complete with full size stove, an amazing vintage farm sink, and full size fridge. Dishes are DIY here (as in no dishwasher) and you'll find dishware, cookware including cutlery, a toaster, and a coffee pot. ***** WASH UP A VERY compact bathroom with equally compact (I mean it, it's teeny!) step-in shower. Let's talk about this. Have you been in an airplane bathroom? Ok, now imagine shoehorning a shower in that. It's hard to dress in there without opening the door (to the kitchen, though you still have pricacy because that can't be seen from the living/bedroom). Please believe me when I tell you it's probably the tiniest bathroom you've ever been in. A standard-sized adult male did live here for years and managed, but I want you to be prepared. ***** HANG OUT A small balcony overlooks our courtyard (where you're also free to chill in the seating area or whip up dinner on the Weber). This is city living so you'll also see a parade of neighbor's back yards. ***** MUST LOVE DOGS We have two dogs. You may hear them bark in the courtyard but we discourage extracurricular barking. Truffle is a senior Pomeranian and Cassius Thunderpaws (aka Cash) is Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd bundle of exuberant love who wants nothing more than to meet you. Both available for cuddles! I also offer an Airbnb Experience starring Cash - ask for details! Take note: Our other dog-friendly Airbnb, Vertigo Louisville, shares the courtyard so you may see a pup who's staying with other guests. Bringing your own puppers? Yay! We're big fans of dog people and we'd love for you to bring your dog (that's just ONE, please). We may (possibly) be able to lend you a crate and will provide a doggie welcome kit. BUT: we do require that you check with me *before* booking and tell me about your dog (don't worry, NO size limit or breed restriction!). I'll send you our special house rules for pups and ask you to agree before proceeding with booking. Please note - until you've asked and agreed to the rules, don't use instant book or we can decline the bookings. ***** OLD HOUSE LOVE This old stable was built in 1887 and later converted to a garage with this flat above it.At one time it was a woodworker's shop (and honestly, in 132 years who knows what else?) We worked really (really!) hard on renovating the space but it's not perfect, and that's not what we're after. We love the character of quirky old spaces and if you do too, we'll get along just fine. ***** WHAT'S IT MEAN TO STAY IN A CARRIAGE HOUSE IN THE CITY? This flat is above our garage, so guess what that means? Yep, we open the garage every weekday morning before work. Between that and old windows overlooking a fairly busy street, light sleepers may prefer something in a quieter area. We've slept here quite a bit and been fine, but if you're used to a quiet country area you'll notice the city soundscape. Also, the whole 'On the Alley' name? Yeah. It's on an alley. Know your comfort level with watching daily urban life unfold outside your window before booking. Next door is an auto body garage; they're great neighbors, but the cinderblock building isn't really part of the attraction here. I suggest looking out the other windows at the gorgeous 1860s church across the street. ***** THERE WILL BE RULES We don't have a ton of rules but we mean business on all of them. This is our home and we've worked incredibly hard on it and ask that you respect it, as well as the neighborhood that supported us when we got our rental license. There's no smoking (of anything) in Little Carriage House *or* on the balcony – anywhere on the property, for that matter. We are so very strict on that! Smoking = leaving. Registered guests only, and we mean that too. You've been vetted by Airbnb and I'm sure your friends are lovely, but I don't know them, and this is our home, not a place for you to host a gathering. Do note we have a Nest cam that will capture all comings and goings on the property. If you're traveling with a dog we require that you contact us to ask for and agree to the pet rules *before* booking. You'll find we're very chill so long as you observe these house rules. ***** WANT MORE? Still reading? Awesome! Come find us on Insta or F B at Vertigo Louisville or look for # littlecarriagehouseonthealley We have the conditional use permit and license required from Louisville Metro. We're also the OG Airbnb, as in this is our home, not a place run by an absent owner or management company. If you need anything, I'll pop out my back door and be there in one minute to help. *****
Here's a look at what we've got nearby (15 minutes or less on foot) ...A great family-owned small craft beer brewery at dog-friendly and laid back Old Louisville Brewery ...Crazy good doughnuts and excellent local coffee at the awesome North Lime shop (first breakfast there is free on us!:) ...The fabulous Bar Vetti with cocktails and sumptuous Italian fare that the local restaurant critic calls Louisville's best food. ...Six Ten Magnolia, the flagship restaurant from James Beard award winning Edward Lee (who you may have seen on Mind of a Chef or in the New York Times). It's one of Food & Wine's Top Forty Restaurants so book ahead! ...And then all sorts of cool little nooks and crannies I can't wait to tell you about. Old Louisville isn't on the radar of many travel writers so you can really stumble across some cool off the beaten track places -- with the right guide ;)
  • Wow! We stayed a weekend; and wish we could’ve stayed longer. The apartment’s description is accurate. From the moment we walked into the gate, we loved the charm of the place. The place was clean and organized; easy to find things, too; adorable decorations and the bed was so comfortable. I was hesitant about the bathroom quarters because of the description on the Airbnb site; because of my size. But, I did not feel claustrophobic at all. Water was very hot! Dana had neighborhood suggestions for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. She communicated through email, changes or tidbits that so there were no surprises. The neighborhood is going through gentrification and this 1887 carriage house is an asset to this part of Louisville. We will be back!

    Mila2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • New place for Dana on her property. I expected the same as at Vertigo ( the original renovated space ). Of course Dana exceeded expectations again . Smaller space but perfect for single traveler or couple. The same “wanderlust” vibe in the space with all kitchy touches in the lamp -and decorative ambient lighting. Awesome sheets made in USA “Red Cotton” much appreciated and lovely smelling organic shampoos/conditioner/body wash . Of which I will order ASAP. Don’t mind the small shower it works . Fan n air conditioning provided white noise n drowned out city noises. Sweet place with all the amenities of home n coffee too! Once u check in, u don’t wanna leave !

  • The carriage house was simply amazing. Beautiful space. Interesting neighborhood. Thoughtful accommodations. Great hosts. This is truly an Airbnb gem!

    Adam2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Carriage house is absolutely spotless and gorgeous. We loved how accommodating and hospitable Dana and her husband were, and how sweet their dogs are! It's a lovely location tucked in a small neighborhood just minutes away from downtown. I cannot recommend this stay highly enough!

    Olivia2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Well let's see, where do I start? I guess the best review I can give is that we decided on an impromptu stay at the Carriage House at the end of our trip after staying 2 nights at Dana's other location, Vertigo, the previous week. Everything you can ask for in an Airbnb will be included in your stay here. From the decor, provisions, and extra small touches you will be hard-pressed to find a better place to stay anywhere - much less Louisville.

    Richmond2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you come to Louisville it is IMPERATIVE that you stay with Dana!! She will help you get the utmost out of your trip to Louisville. From quick response times, allowing us to check in early, tips about local attractions and restaurants, and giving us an insightful tour of historic Old Louisville - to the thoughtful design touches and cleanliness of the apartment - Dana puts her heart and soul into everything she does for her guests. We were blown away by the hospitality we received and the lengths Dana will go to help you maximize your time in Louisville. Simply can't say enough good things about this wonderful lady, and this awesome city. Thanks again, Dana!

  • The Little Carriage House was a treat to stay in! It's in a great location, the room is appointed very well and is unique. The hosts are very friendly and readily available - you won't regret staying here.

  • Of your in Louisville you should stay at this place. Very nice And clean apartment and Dana, her husband and obviously Cash (their dog, unfortunately we didn’t meet their 2nd dog) are great hosts. Great tips, flexible on check in time and easily reachable for questions. Definitely recommend this place!

  • Jeff and his wife were welcoming and friendly hosts. They have a beautifully renovated home in the heart of Lousiville. Everything was 5-10 mins away via car. The third floor that we stayed in was lovely and had thoughtful touches that made our stay very comfortable. Thank you for making our visit so pleasant!

    Angela2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • My teenage granddaughter and I had a wonderful stay in Jeff and Linda's beautiful Victorian home for 3 nights. It was a real plus to have twin beds. Heated bathroom floor was wonderful, beds were very comfortable. Enjoyed visiting with them after we returned from our busy days. Their house is very conveniently located to all the attractions we wanted to see.

    Toni2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff and Linda were really lovely hosts. Their house is beautiful -- a really nice renovation of a historic home in the historic "Old Louisville" district. So their house and the neighborhood are just gorgeous. They were really responsive and checkin/checkout were a breeze. They live in the house, and were very friendly and welcoming, but we were also completely able to come and go as we liked without feeling at all awkward. And the third floor was all ours, so it definitely felt like we had our own space. Everything was exactly how it looked in the pictures, and Jeff and Linda were just great hosts. You'll definitely be happy with your stay here.

    Kody2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • My mom and I loved staying here! We stayed for 3 nights and felt right at home. The house was so beautiful and Jeff and his wife were great! Their dog Callie was super sweet as well! They literally thought of everything from toiletries to snacks to brochures about various places in Louisville. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves (two bedrooms, private bathroom, and mini kitchen area with microwave/mini fridge/sink/etc.). We were given our own lock code so we could enter the house freely. They even let us do a load of laundry. We had zero complaints and major compliments!

    Taylor2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Jeff and Linda for your hospitality! Your place is very nice and we enjoyed our stay there. You made us feel very welcome.

    Alban2016-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff and Linda were the best hosts! Jeff even came out to an art opening I was exhibiting work in which meant a lot. Great people, great place, the yummy snacks were a bonus and their dog is lovely. Would definitely stay here again and 100% recommend!

  • If you're coming to Louisville Air BnB is the only way to really get the feel of the city. The location was great! The fridge was full of drinks, bathroom was stocked with basic amenities. Very cozy house. Will definitely be back!

  • We had such a great time at Steve and Jessica's 4th floor apartment! It was quite and a great place to lay our heads. I definitely recommend this cute place if you are planning a stay in Louisville. They checked on us via text and made sure we had drinks (and bourbon) in the fridge. The only concern I have is if you have trouble with stairs it might be a difficult climb.

    Maggie2016-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place was as charming as the pictures indicate. I loved all of it, including quality bedding and wonderful pillows! I traveled with my 70+ year old mom, we stayed two nights and loved our on extended morning and last night watching movies. The only thing to be considered is the stairs you take leading to the third floor unit, they’re straight up and outside along the house. I was fine with it, but if if my stay had consisted of someone with issues, or carrying up youngsters and all that is required for them, I’d take it into consideration. My mom has a vision issue and there’s no way she could carry her suitcase up or down. I had no problem doing it, but for others that might present a problem. They replied promptly the few times I reached out to them, had a great notebook of information with blank pages full of notes from previous guests on must see/do/eat...loved that! There are plenty of things to read, fun art, books and board games. Truly we loved the spot and I recommend to anyone who enjoys ambiance and charm. Thank you Steve and Jessica!

  • This was a great, stylish space to stay during the conference I was in town for. I appreciated the prompt responses from the hosts and loved the quiet solitude during my downtime. It was a wonderful stay in a historic neighborhood that was just 15 minutes from the church where my conference was being held. It was an easy check-in and I found it very easy to come and go with a parking lot located just behind the home. I would definitely stay in this home again the next time I'm in town!

    Jq2019-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was very clean and had its own deck. There was nothing that I needed that was not provided. There were even a dozen fresh, local eggs in the fridge. The host I met was kind and full of information about the city and area. It is an excellent spot.

  • This place is charming as can be and was absolutely perfect for our home base while we were in Louisville for a wedding. Christopher and the team were attentive, helpful with local places to check out, and the lovely old house was delightful. Only thing that wasn't exactly as expected was that the bathroom didn't connect directly to our room, but at one door down the hall, it was still easy and relatively private. Kudos to the whole gang there, it was a real pleasure staying with you all.

    Matt2018-10-14T00:00:00Z

  • The suite was quaint, clean, and nice and cool on the extremely hot days we stayed there. Christopher met us at check-in, answered all our questions, and left us nice chocolates and coffee. Christopher also made sure we had the bathroom down the hall to ourselves during our stay, which was appreciated. Great place!

  • Great, updated decor. The kitchen was super nice and had snacks and cooking items. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The bathrooms were very stylish and updated. The whole stay was perfect. They had tennis rackets to use at the park right across the street. Parking was ample. There was not much traffic flow down the street so, it was easy to get in and out and was quiet.

The house is in a great, historic location situated steps from Louisville's Central Park - with walking trails, playground, tennis courts and a community amphitheatre, and amazing local restaurants within walking distance. Wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely check with Nancy first the next time we're in Louisville!

Old Louisville is a historic district and neighborhood in central Louisville, Kentucky, USA. It is the third largest such district in the United States, and the largest preservation district featuring almost entirely Victorian architecture. It is also unique in that a majority of its structures are made of brick, and the neighborhood contains the highest concentration of residential homes with stained glass windows in the U.S. Many of the buildings are in the Victorian-era styles of Romanesque, Queen Anne, Italianate, among others; and a large number of blocks have had few or no buildings razed. There are also several 20th-century buildings from 15 to 20 stories. Old Louisville consists of about 48 city blocks and is located north of the University of Louisville's main campus and south of Broadway and Downtown Louisville, in the central portion of the modern city. The neighborhood hosts the renowned St. James Court Art Show on the first weekend in October. Despite its name, Old Louisville was actually built as a suburb of Louisville starting in the 1870s, nearly a century after Louisville was founded. It was initially called the Southern Extension, and the name Old Louisville did not come until the 1960s. Old Louisville was initially home to some of Louisville's wealthiest residents, but saw a decline in the early and mid-20th century. Following revitalization efforts and gentrification, Old Louisville is currently home to a diverse population with a high concentration of students and young professionals.
  • The location is great. Ease of check-in and out makes everything easy for varying arrival and departure. Beautiful place.

  • Mary’s condo was the perfect location and size for our vacation of 4 friends. Within a 5-10min drive/uber anywhere in Louisville it was the perfect spot to call home during our adventures. Mary was also prompt with communication which was super helpful in the planning of our event.

    Phil2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's place was exactly what we needed for a weekend visit to Louisville. This was a mother/ daughter trip, my daughter attended the Humana Theater Festival. The home was easy to find and check into and the space was really comfortable and stylish. The location was great, easy access to downtown and easy to get on the freeway. There was a lot of information about things to do, and I spent most of my time hiking in surrounding parks. I can highly recommend Mary's place for a stay in Louisville.

    Vianna2019-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is a great host, and the space was perfect for what we needed.

    Heidi2018-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Mary communicates well and worked to accommodate additional parking requests. The check-in process was seamless. The space was clean and adequately decorated. It is an old house and has that characteristic musty smell as well as the occasional faint smell of cat urine in some places. Overall, it was a good value close to downtown and other attractions.

    J2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's place was so nice. It's in incredibly convenient location to explore the city and get to the highway, and all the thoughtful touches made our stay quite comfortable. We loved the historic building and neighborhood as well.

This home is a cozy place that features the Queen Anne architectural style with beautiful woodwork and lots of space. Louisville is also known for hosting the annual Kentucky Derby as well as the St. James Art Fair along with many other attractions to enjoy.
Some of the beautiful features here include the impressive woodwork along with eight fireplaces (nonworking). There is an intimate foyer along with a living room, dining room, pool room, five bedrooms, eat-in kitchen, bar area, and two bathrooms. The first and second floors have about 5,000 square feet of space. The private room features a nonworking fireplace, small refrigerator, and also a microwave. The upstairs bathroom is shared and contains a large shower (no bathtub), and there is a shared half bath downstairs. We have never had a complaint about sharing the bathrooms.
When you step outside, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through this uniquely mesmerizing neighborhood and are only a short walking distance from Central Park and the famous St. James Court neighborhood.
  • Janet was very flexible, allowing us to stay and check out later, which was a huge help to us. Everything was as described and expected. Bed was comfy. Neighborhood was great--there's a nice park and the wonderful Belgravia Court (historic area) within walking distance--that was a highlight of our trip! We were hoping for more food options close by, but it wasn't a problem since we had a car. Overall, a very nice stay. Thank you, Janet!

    Debbie2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Janet's home. She was very accommodating. The house is nicely decorated. The bed is great. It was our first time sharing a bathroom that was down the hall. It was not a problem at all. We would come back. We also enjoyed Louisville very much.

    Luann2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Janet is a wonderful host! Our room was perfect. Our bed was very comfortable. Perfectly located for a visit to University if Louisville. And easy walking distance for Kentucky Shakespeare in Central Park.

    Janine2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is just as described. Janet's home is beautiful and picturesque. We were extremely comfortable and enjoyed the scenery. The location was 10 minutes from everything we were doing and we went in many, different directions. Janet knows Louisville well and gave great directions to go along with great suggestions of seeing and doing in Louisville. We plan to come back as this trip is annual event for us.

    Cassandra2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • You won't even believe how fantastic this house is. Pictures do not do it justice. I hesitate to say more, lest the house gets booked solid and we can't get in the next time we are in town. Let's just say that we both 'ooohed' and 'aahed' every time we went up the staircase. Janet is a wonderful hostess, and received us warmly. Our room was huge and beautiful. We both slept splendidly in the luxurious linens, and the bed is very comfortable. I was unsure about sharing a bathroom, but there was never an issue. Janet has a pretty glass jar filled with all of the soaps and shampoos you might need, as well as a kitchen stocked with coffee and tea. If you are VERY lucky, she might share some of her Kale Pesto. She sent some home with us, and we have been living on it for the last 2 days. (YUM!). We'd never been to 'Old' Louisville before, and were blown away by the Victorian mansions lining the streets. We have fallen in love with the neighborhood, to the point that we might move there at some point. There is an excellent place a few blocks away called The Tavern, which had one of the best burgers I've ever had. It had a funny name, and truffle oil was involved. Nuff said. Janet exemplified the kindness of Louisville. I've never been treated so nicely by an entire city before. Everyone is SO friendly, and the food... well, I had trouble fitting into the dress I brought with me to wear on our last day. As with all 5 star AirBnb experiences, we loved our stay, plan to go back as soon as we can, and consider Janet a new friend.

    Laurie2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Janet's house is on one of the most beautiful streets in the city. Close to downtown, close to the highlands. The house is huge and gorgeous, calling back the Great Gatsby era with gigantic columns and perfectly polished wood finish inside. There is a pool table and plenty of room to relax. The room I stayed in was big and cozy with Cable TV, fridge, microwave, coffee machine and plenty of lovely appointments. I recommend staying here when in Louisville.

    Adrienne2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a very safe and charming neighborhood in Louisville, and cab to downtown is about $6-9. Janet and her family are very nice and welcoming. My stay was brief but I hope I could have stayed longer! Sunlight if way more than sufficient in the daytime. And you do wake up in the middle of bird chirping and the smell of sunshine. The house is huge so there's plenty room for you to hang out. If you are an artistic kind, you might get inspired by it! It's bright, lively, but with a string of mysterious air. Grace, Janet's granddaughter also left me a beautiful flower. I wish I could stayed there longer!

  • This is a beautiful old home near everything to do in Lousiville. It has those huge old windows and beautiful staircases characteristic of homes from the late 1800s. We loved staying there, felt very welcome by Joseph, and thought it was an excellent value- so nice of them not to price people out of a weekend away. We took our bikes and enjoyed the much nicer bike lanes then we have in Lexington. We would definitely visit again.

    Tara2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • They were fantastic! Very responsive and very fiendly. They clued us into some things we may have otherwise missed during our stay. The house is really nice and very clean.

    Dave2016-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Overall great visit! I just needed somewhere to sleep when in town for a wedding so this satisfied that! Had an issue getting keys at check in (missing from the lockbox), but someone was home so it was not a big problem. Towels and sheets were clean and fresh. Carpeting in the bedroom was freshly vacuumed, although the room was a little musty smelling. It is an old house with a ton of character, so that is expected. Common areas were super clean (hallway floors, stairs, shared bathroom).

  • Joseph and Jennifer and daughter Sophie were great hosts, making suggestions for where to eat and sip and chatting things up after dinner. Their artfully decorated and very large townhouse was an enjoyable stay on such short notice. :-) A pleasure.

We invite you to come and stay at The Samuel Culbertson Mansion historic bed and breakfast inn on your next visit to Louisville. This Georgian Revival mansion is located in the heart of the Old Louisville National Historic District, near downtown Louisville, the University of Louisville and Churchill Downs. Pamper yourself with the opulence of the Gilded Age, and enjoy a piece of traditional Kentucky in this former home of a President of Churchill Downs and the "Two Little Knights of Kentucky.
The President's Room was the master bedroom of the mansion. We named it because the master of the house, Samuel Culbertson, was president of Churchill Downs during the 1920s and 1930s. In this room you can almost feel the history of the Kentucky Derby around you. Can you hear the call to the post? Will you sleep in this room and dream of the famous Kentucky Derby races of Citation, Galahadion, War Admiral, and Whirlaway? You wouldn't be the first! The room has a king-size full canopy bed, and a large private bath with a shower.
This neighborhood has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes in the country and is the third largest Historical Preservation District in the U.S. Built as a suburb in the 1870s, Old Louisville consists of nearly 48 city blocks of Victorian-era homes – considered the oldest, largest and most beautifully preserved homes in the city. Amid the rich architecture of this community, you’ll also find quaint bed and breakfast inns and excellent dining options, surrounded by the beauty of mature magnolia and oak trees.
  • This place is amazing! I don’t often write reviews. The building was amazing, the location was great but the service was outstanding. The best part of this experience is Rudy, the owner. He was warm, welcoming and happy to share local tips. His mansion was beautiful and filled with antiques, each with a story that Rudy was graciously willing to share. My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and visiting several bourbon distilleries as well as Churchill Downs. One of the best bourbon stops we made was right in Rudy’s basement. He has an amazing bar complete with three juke boxes, a pool table and every high end bourbon you can think of. The home is over 120 years old and loaded with furniture and art twice as old. The pictures don’t do the place justice. I can’t say enough about this place. It was romantic, beautiful, convenient and interesting. One word of caution: Rudy has a very small pup that is quite protective, so if you’re going to give Rudy a hug and you’ll want to, look out for the little pup. Great job Rudy, we’ll be back!

  • WOW! What an awesome house, location and hosts! Rudy and Jason were so responsive and welcoming. The house is a historical masterpiece. I wish I had more time to explore all of the unique pieces. Centrally located, it was easy to get to so many different places around the city. Oh - the the breakfast was amazing. I look forward to staying at the Samuel Culbertson Mansion next time I am in Louisville!

If you're wanting an incredible stay in Louisville with room for everyone and the space to enjoy it all, look no further than the city's most premium property nestled on a historic walking court, mere moments from downtown, in a traditional Victorian mansion nestled in the heart of the nation's largest Victorian preservation district.  Throw a rock and hit Central park, history, and excitement.  This home is close proximity to Louisville's premier attractions regardless of which Neighborhood you're looking to explore. Modern amenities and updates round out this fabulous property and bring home the comforts of today, in a setting that once saw horse and buggy walk by.  This home is historic, and perfect, for your historic stay and a trip you'll be talking about for decades. Distances - Kentucky Exposition Center & Fairgrounds - 4 miles Downtown & International convention center - 2 miles Churchill Downs - 5 miles University of Louisville - 5 miles ****Parking is 100% on the street.  Quite the norm in Old Louisville.  You should not have trouble finding parking spaces right along the side of the house, but parking is not available off street. No permit is required, and it is generally quite safe.****
  • What a gem!! This old historic home is completely renovated but still keeps a bit of that old Louisville charm. Set back from the road in a private walkway, the home’s exterior reflects the incredible history in the neighborhood. Inside, you’ll find all of the modern amenities that you could possibly want! There are a few restaurants within walking distance. We strolled through Central Park to the Old Louisville Tavern and had a fun time. 4th Street Live and surrounding bars/restaurants are just a quick Lyft away (8-10min), so you get the quiet reprieve from the hustle of downtown. The owners were fabulous to work with. Quick to respond. Even took my call at 11pm when we were locked out (a million thanks)! Will be back!
