The apartment is an open, colorful, light and art filled space. Wilshire Woods is a walkable oak-filled neighborhood, just east of IH-35 at 41st. Minutes to UT and downtown. The garage and apartment are separate from the main house but connected by a deck. Washer and dryer for guest use are in the garage. Parking is available on or off street, behind a gate. I am here if you need me, but guests do have complete privacy. Dog Winnie, and cat Clara-both famously sweet are sometimes outside.
Prior to your stay you can tell me your bedding preferences. The right pillow makes or breaks my nights so you have a choice of soft down to firm memory foam. And your choice of sheets and other bedding. Housekeeping, shopping and laundry can be arranged for an additional fee to cover the actual costs.
Wilshire Woods is a National Historic Neighborhood. It was Austin’s first “planned community”. It’s opening in 1941 had a tree counting contest. Just north, the new Austin airport had opened in what were fields. Sadly oak disease has devastated many of our oldest trees, mostly red and burr oak. But it continues to be a Woods. Once across the RR tracks you are instantly transported into lovely and loved Wilshire Woods. My house was most likely an original old farmhouse. It is the only house in the neighborhood with no AUSTIN Limestone. The original house has oak floors, and shiplap pine walls and ceilings. The apartment has red oak flooring and matches the farmhouse appeal of the main house. Shopping, for anything, is within a mile in every direction-you can go weeks without a car (my long term tenant has no car). Dining of every kind is also close in every direction, without fighting traffic or driving far. Austin is a fast growing city-and it’s only fair to mention there is a sizable homeless population here. AUSTIN has recently authorized camping on public property due to insufficient space for our homeless citizens. The closer you get to downtown, the more obvious the problem. Our neighborhood experienced a period of break-ins several years ago, but most of the culprits were high school students. Still, I encourage people to park in the drive or behind the fence in the back. I walk my neighborhood every night-late-to feed feral cats. I don’t ever feel like there is a safety risk. I have reported minor criminal activity at the UHaul nearby (siphoning and SPILLING gas out of trucks) and the police were there within 90 seconds. The up side of being close in. St. David’s Hospital is just over a mile away, UT Medical School just beyond that, and Dell Children’s is half mile away. Urgent care clinics are within 2 minutes drive.

The garden bedroom, situated at the rear of our 1948 home, is a perfect place to enjoy or retreat from the city. Centrally located in a charming, peacock-filled neighborhood, we are just a short bike ride or drive from many of Austin's best eateries, bars, parks and venues.
Comfortable and private, the garden bedroom is ideal for a long weekend or festival stay. It features a private closet, a full-sized bed and a lovely view of the backyard.
There are so many things to love about our neighborhood. Not only are we super close to great parkland, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, food trailers and vintage shops, we're surrounded by huge live oaks and peacocks! The neighbors are open and friendly and have made us feel welcome from the start. Some of our favorite places include Skylark Lounge, Contigo, Dai Due, Sugar Mama's, Coldtowne Theater, The Work Horse, Foreign and Domestic, Drink Well, Kome, Tyson's Tacos, Room Service Vintage, Uptown Modern, Michi Ramen, Big Bertha's and Lucy's Fried Chicken. We also really dig our backyard patio and grill, and we think you will, too.

A "retreat" suite: your own wing in my East Central Austin/Cherrywood house: bedroom, bath and a sizeable living/dining/office room with mini-fridge, microwave, coffeepot, toaster and laundry. Private front and back entries, free onsite and street parking. Shady yards, quiet neighborhood, a short walk to park, pool, coffeehouses, bars and restaurants. Nearby bus stops, 5-minutes' drive to downtown and the University of Texas, it's a perfect location to relax. Cable TV and Wifi, too!
You'll have private entrances to both front and back yards. Your three-room suite features spacious, well-furnished rooms. There is central heat and air, ceiling fans in living and bedroom, good wifi service and USB charging ports. Your living area has a loveseat, chairs and antique library table, as a desk or for dining. Not a full kitchen, but a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee pot and toaster, perfect for a light breakfast or warming up "take-out" or leftovers. You'll have disposable cups, plates and utensils, as well as some china/microwavable dishes and glasses, with dishwashing supplies under the vanity sink. Upon your arrival, I provide a "welcome basket" with granola bars and coffee, teas, instant oatmeal, pastries and juice - to get you through the first morning or two. The spacious bedroom features a double bed with superior mattress, all-cotton linens, and comfortably sleeps two. You'll have cable TV, bureau, armchairs, and a large walk-in closet. Large windows provide great natural light and a view of the terraced backyard. Your attached bath includes a shower, vanity sink and toilet, plush cotton bath linens, bath toiletries and hair dryer. The yards are full of trees -- shady and quiet, with a terraced, landscaped backyard and a patio with table and chairs for al fresco meals, or just chilling. The neighborhood is a favorite for joggers, dog-walkers, parents with strollers, and folks who just mosey. It features a "natural habitat" wooded greenbelt with a creek, walking path, and a tree swing -- how long since you've spent time in a tree swing?
The house is very close-in central, but in a surprisingly quiet and walkable area. The Cherrywood / Upper Boggy Creek neighborhood is in Central East Austin, near downtown, the University of Texas, several renowned museums and 3 blocks from the Mueller development (shops, dining, an Alamo Drafthouse theater, and a great park and walking trail). Within a half-mile to mile walk (on 38-1/2 Street or Manor Road) are excellent eateries: Eastside Cafe, El Chile Cafe/Cantina, Salty Sow, Hoover's Cooking, Mi Madre's, El Chilito (walk up for tacos anytime), and Dai Due. There are 2 Coffee Houses: Cherrywood (meals all day, beers and wine) and Thunderbird; and bars or pubs (Haymaker's, the Schoolhouse Pub). Two grocery stores (one with ready-to-eat take out) are a short walk. A city park with lighted tennis courts, picnic tables, skateboard park and a pool (open in the summers) is 2 blocks away.

Quak's 43rd Street Bakery Quack's is definitely one of the favorite neighborhood establishments! Their pastry and sweets selection is hard to beat, their cakes are some of the best in Austin, and they have a wide selection of vegan-friendly options. Show up early or late for their mind-inspiring energy-boosting coffee. Bring your laptop and enjoy. After 6pm, all of their breakfast pastries are half off. So show up a little after 6pm to pick up some treats for the next day. Even though they're a day old, they are still so incredibly delicious. Quak's: highly recommended for all of your caffeine and sugar cravings. Hyde Park Bar & Grill Some things never change, like being greeted by a friendly, legacy host, in a very cozy little restaurant in a favorite little Austin neighborhood. So much has changed in this town but a lot of folks have not forgotten about their old favorite, HPG. Established in 1982, many have been coming here since they were kids! Some have been on numerous dates at this place, and have had many heart-to-heart conversations with friends and family in every single room. Most go back with their best friend and have an amazing time. Order from the brunch menu or simply try their soups & salads. The salmon, the steak, the Hyde Park fries, the crispy green beans, the sandwiches, the burgers, and the chicken fried chicken. It's all pretty dang good. Hyde Park Historic District Located in Central Austin, Hyde Park is defined by W. 38 Street to the south, W. 51 Street to the north, Duval Street to the east, and Guadalupe Street to the west. It is situated just north of the The University of Texas. Hyde Park traces its origins back to 1891 and is considered to be Austin's first suburb. Texas entrepreneur Morton Martin Shipe (the neighborhood pool is named in his honor) laid out Hyde Park in the 1890s. Despite being one of Central Austin's most densely occupied neighborhoods, Hyde Park retains that sense of community it had a century ago. Hyde Park is really a village inside Austin with its own "town center" at 43rd and Duval where the locals gather for coffee and pastries at Quack's Bakery, for gelato and a glass of grappa at Dolce Vita, or simply to do their laundry and hang out with friends. Antonelli's Cheese Shop This "tiny" Hyde Park cheese "mecca" boasts an "unsurpassed selection" of the "highest-quality" artisanal varieties (domestic and imported) plus "delicious" charcuterie and other assorted specialty items; prices are on the "expensive" side, but it's staffed by a "passionate" crew of "well-informed" experts who'll answer a "million questions" and help you "find exactly what you are looking for." Quak's 43rd Street Bakery Quack's is definitely one of the favorite neighborhood establishments! Vino Vino Vino Vino is Austin’s premier wine bar and restaurant, offering wine lovers a wide range of “real wines,” from the über natural to the timeless classics. This is a Hyde Park gem on Guadalupe. A long, cavernous cellar of a wine bar, Vino Vino is literally wall-to-wall wine selection. But the staff is what hits it out of the park. So knowledgable friendly and fantastic! Kelly, the manager? Might be one of your favorite people ever. He'll spend much care with your party, make you laugh, help you pick great selections, and even help guide you with the dinner plan.

We are located in the Wilshire Wood/Delwood 1 neighborhood of East Austin, 2-3 miles from downtown and easy access to I-35. This neighborhood consists of original 1940-50's detached homes with large trees and ample street parking. Our home is a large ranch style house, with wooden floors and windows that offer lots of light. Your private room (15'x15') has a queen size bed with closets and a dresser. There are two original 1950's bathrooms for your own use. The guest bedroom and bathrooms are connected by your own private hallway, but we have a shared front door. We will share our large comfortable kitchen for light use, that includes your own fridge. You have access to coffee maker, tea kettle, microwave, and use of stove upon request. Free WiFi. We are within minutes of restaurants, shops, supermarket, walking trail, and Metrorail and bus stops to downtown. Bus stop to and from airport is only 1 1/2 blocks away ($1.25). So, whether you come here to enjoy the city of Austin, ACL Music Fest, Formula 1 and or SXSW, we hope you have a comfortable stay. Located down the street from The University of Texas and downtown Austin. Shopping centers are walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, and all sorts of retail shops. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, central AC/heat, washer/dryer, full kitchen, and back patio. I've lived here since 2005 and it's my sanctuary. You're welcome to stay here when you visit Austin. Robert Rodriguez's series "Rebel Without A Crew" filmed the movie "On The Run" at the casita in 2017.
This 1940's house is unique because it is private yet convenient to all sorts of exciting and interesting places in Austin. This is an older house built in 1940. Please be gentle with it. Yes, here you experience the charm relaxing in privacy in central Austin. Staying here will make you feel like you live in Austin. You'll see the University of Texas campus and downtown just down the street.
The restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and neighbors all make me happy to live here.

Studio 45 is in central Austin, in the historic and hip Hyde Park neighborhood. The space has a mid-century modern feel, nestled in a large backyard with room to relax by a fire, in the hammock or with a beverage on the deck. Perfect for a spring getaway and close to downtown for all the upcoming SXSW festivities!
Studio 45 is the perfect mix of new modern (check out the bathroom!) and mid-century modern (hello vintage couch). Set up to feel like your home-away from home, you'll enjoy a top-of-the-line Sealy Posturepedic queen size bed, a luxurious and relaxing rain shower and Apple TV to Netflix and chill. This is a perfect place for your stay if you're just in town to visit beautiful, Austin or coming for one of our many events throughout the year: - SXSW in March - MotoGP in April - Formula 1 in the fall - Austin City Limits (ACL) in October - UT football games - College graduation in the Spring, Summer and Winter at The University of Texas (UT), St. Edwards or Texas State
The Hyde Park, Hancock and North Loop neighborhoods boast some of the best new dining spots in Austin. We're pretty obsessed. All located within walking distance, or a short drive, we can't recommend these places enough: - KOME ~ Japanese sushi and hot kitchen restaurant - DRINKWELL ~ Cozy gastropub/speak easy style bar and restaurant - BULLFIGHT ~ Spanish style, tapas restaurant - HOUSE PIZZERIA ~ Homemade wood oven pizza - HYDE PARK GRILL ~ American comfort food, and a neighborhood staple - MOTHER'S CAFE ~ Delicious vegetarian and vegan restaurant - JUICELAND ~ Fresh smoothies, juices and vegan ice cream If you'd like to pick up a few groceries instead, you can walk to HEB in the Hancock Center, where they also sell wine and beer. In this shopping center you'll also find a Twins Liquor, Coffee Bean and a few other fast-food options. If you're looking for a place to simply enjoy the weather, Shipe Park is an open space with a playground, basketball court, tennis courts and free swimming pool in the summer time. Mueller park, just on the other side of IH-35, is a beautiful place to run/jog around the pond, fish (catch and release), feed the ducks and geese, or grab a bite from the food trucks. It also hosts the city's children's museum, The Thinkery as well as an amazing playground.

House is on the upper east side of Austin walking distance to Mueller Park which includes a running trail, set of food trailers a Sunday Farmers Market, Alamo Drafthouse and a few bars/coffee stops. You might also enjoy wild peacocks in the neighborhood that often head over early mornings.
Private bedroom available w/ detached bathroom. House is on the upper east side of Austin walking distance to Mueller Park which includes a running trail, set of food trailers and a Sunday Farmers Market. My neighborhood is eclectic and in the mornings you might see white and colored peacocks in my yard! Go on a walk one street over and you will see many of them! You will have access to a bathroom on the opposite side of the house and can always use my master attached bathroom as well if needed. The bathroom is only shared if I have guests in the other spare room, which is not very often. My place is pretty quiet! Most guests come in just to sleep and explore the city during the day. Cab rides to downtown range from $9-$11 and about $6 to east-side manor street bars and restaurants (and newly open "in and out" !). Bus stop is 1 block down. My reviews mention a dog, but I no longer have one. Coffee will be available for you in the morning! Fridge is available if you need space to store your groceries. TV is available in the living room, but I do not have one in the room.

Relax on the private deck or curl up on the crimson sofa at this cool duplex in a unique pocket of Cherrywood, central Austin. After a day of sightseeing, enjoy highlights like the gourmet kitchen and the spacious, lush walk-in shower.STR2015OL068808
Our duplex is in an architecturally unique section of the Cherrywood neighborhood in East Austin. Sometimes called "Duplex Nation", the development was constructed in 1948 by a developer named Bascom Giles, who built the neighborhood to serve moderate income families following WWII. There are a few floor plans, but all are built out of cinder block bricks covered in stucco and have a distinct style compared to the surrounding neighborhoods. Duplex Nation is a good mix of renters and live-in owners, with a quirky style that enabled the development to be added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Delwood Duplex Historic District in 2011. We have fully renovated the inside of both the upstairs and downstairs apartments. Refinished hardwood floors, refinished yellow pine doors and updated paint in all rooms. The gourmet kitchen is brand new, including cabinets, countertops, stainless steel appliances and a dish washer. In addition, we have removed some of the interior walls to allow for an open concept kitchen, dining and living area. We updated the bathroom, and to save space, we have done away with the bathtub, but we have a very luxurious new shower that should not disappoint. We have a tankless, on-demand water heater, so no worries about running out of hot water. The space has central air and heat. We provide access to a washing machine and dryer for our guests (but please use the soap provided, as it is a high efficiency washer). We have a couple of spaces for off street parking, up the alley in the back of our place (though word of warning - the city does not maintain the alley, so there are a few potholes - take it slow going back there). You can also park on the street out front.

We have just completed a total renovation of this mid-century home. It's a 3 bedroom/3 1/2 bath in a very quiet neighborhood yet close to the Austin action! You have your own private bedroom (was the original master) with adjoining private bath. There is a flat screen TV, microwave, mini-fridge and plenty of storage in your own area. You have access to the kitchen which includes all the necessities - even a wine frig! We have a beautiful backyard with palm trees and two covered patio areas with tables and chairs for total relaxation. You have use of our washer/dryer and wifi. It is walking distance to the fabulous Cherrywood Coffeehouse, dry cleaner, convenience store and a 24 hour grocery store among many other establishments. A 3 minute walk will get you to the nearest city bus stop and a 7 minute walk to put you at the closest Car2Go location ((website hidden)). We are a 7 minute drive to Downtown, 5 minutes to UT, Dell Children's Hospital and St. David's Hospital. We are also 6 minutes (1.4 miles) to the nearest Cap Metro Rail station (light rail) which is only 2 stations away from Downtown ((website hidden)). We are in a perfect location for anyone coming in for SXSW, ACL and the Circuit of the Americas (F1 races, concerts, etc.) as well as visiting professors and physicians. We are 17 minutes from the airport (ABIA) and 20 minutes to the F1 track. Robert and I love this city and take full advantage of its many gifts. We can help with music venue and restaurant choices as well as other spots of interest. We love meeting people and will make you feel right at home.
The location is unparalleled. We are a 6-8 minute drive to downtown yet live in an area that is quiet and secluded. You'll feel like you're in an oasis yet right in the middle of everything. You can get to South Austin in a matter of minutes and the airport is a 15 minute drive. There are countless great restaurants and coffee shops nearby plus two grocery stores that are open 24/7.
