Palana Retreat is close to the beach and the river in a unique location with crystal clear skies in a remote location. You’ll love the place because of the cosiness, the high ceilings, the views, and the isolation. We cater for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets). To help you unwind immediately a complimentary bottle of bubbly will be in the fridge and a freshly cooked homemade loaf of bread awaits.
“The brilliant hospitality began as soon as we landed. Daryl was there to pick us up from the airport and drive us up to Palana, while pointing out the places we should be visiting during our stay. We we taken away by the beauty of Palana , it is the most spectacular place on the island. Our accommodation was perfect as well as location. Our first night we opted for Daryl to provide us with dinner. It’s was three course and local crayfish was the star of the dish. Once again fabulous. There was also an extensive wine list we could purchase wine from. Daryl was also kind enough to take us out on his boat to try our luck getting some Crayfish, which we did. Having a car for hire at the house was great, it took us everywhere we needed to go on the island, including some amazing beaches which we nearly always had to ourselves, We finished our stay with a kayak in the bay with a pod of dolphins. If you want cafes, bars and tons of people this isn’t your place, Daryl was an excellent host, and we’re planing our next trip to the island already.”
A quaint studio ideal for singles and couples with incredible views across the farm and surrounding mountains. This recently renovated cottage, complete with luxury linens, and a fully equipped kitchenette, is totally intimate and enveloping. With easy access to Mount Killiecrankie walking trails, on-site e-bikes and secluded spots like Diamond Gully and Stacky’s Bight Beach, this farmstay is the perfect place to unwind after a day of adventure.
“The Dwarf Cottage is a well appointed small self contained cottage ideal for a couple. The cottage is private located a few hundred metres from the main farm house. Lots of local bush walks and Flinders Island has some superb beaches. Great for those who wish to get peace and quiet.”
Killiecrankie View is a 2BR house with spectacular vistas from every room.- It is high on a granite ridge overlooking beautiful Killiecrankie Bay in a secluded natural bush setting. The driveway is very steep and a little slippery so you will need to walk the last 75 metres up the hill with your gear unless you have a 4WD which are available at the Whitemark Caravan Park. You can use our sauces, spices and cooking oil. It's 5 minutes walk to the beach; 40 minutes drive to shops at Whitemark.
“This is a real gem. It sits high on a hill, with an ever-changing vista across Killiecrankie Bay from all living/sleeping spaces - what a view to wake up to! The kitchen is fully equipped + all the cooking basics are at hand - olive oils, condiments, Jon’s locally made jalapeño sauce & island manuka honey, etc, etc, meant we could cook anything we wished to & ate as well as if we were at home. It was early summer but unseasonably windy & cold, so we relished the fireplace & kindle/wood supply. Apart from going into Whitemark to stock up at the bakery, butcher, IGA and Jon’s Condimentary, & to enjoy a pre-departure lunch at Flinders Island Wharf, we hardly saw a soul during our week in this remote part of this pristine island - the only footprints on the beach below - a short walk from the house - being ours, birds & crabs! We were endlessly entertained by a family of wallabies, Pacific & silver gulls, the wrens & other birdlife that visited us regularly throughout our stay. And the library of books on Flinders Island helped us plan our walking adventures. If only we could have stayed longer! Thanks Jane for sharing your special and beautifully designed house on the hill.”
