The perfect country home and ranch property. Near Central College in Pella, Iowa, the famous Sprint Car National Raceway in Knoxville, and just a few miles from Lake Red Rock. This property and surrounding area offers exceptional hiking, fishing and bird watching. The Harvey Happy Ranch offers it all! My home is 10 minutes from Pella, Iowa.
“Jeannie’s place was absolutely enchanting! My husband had to work on a nearby electrical project for a week for long hours, which left me and my cattle dog (Penny) on our own during the day without a vehicle. But instead of feeling lonely and bored, it was like being at a peaceful, spiritual retreat. Penny and I loved sitting on the porch listening to a symphony of songbirds. Multiple orioles and catbirds came to the feeder, and a sweet little wren came in and out of its quirky little home above a life-sized metal knight. The house was warm and inviting, with so many fascinating and interesting items on the walls. I told my husband that this was a home that is a testament to a life lived well. Jeannie has much to be proud of. She is clearly an interesting person with a wonderful story. Penny and I also had a wonderful time exploring the property. Don’t expect a sterile suburban cookie cutter environment. I loved the wilderness feel and the eclectic artifacts scattered about, including an authentic rough hewn log cabin, and an ancient airplane. Harvey is a tiny town of 277 people (according to the town sign), and Penny and I enjoyed walking every single street in the town over three days, and also biking out to the train trestle bridge on the outskirts of town. It was so interesting to see all of the different homes, most humble, but many clearly loved and maintained, often with quirky fun touches. The people we met on our wanderings were unfailingly warm and welcoming. Bob and I even stopped in “Peggy’s Place,” the only bar in town, and had the best time talking with the locals, who clearly enjoyed hearing about our upstate New York lifestyle, and gave us great recommendations. Peggy was the BEST. She even hooked us up with personalized pens and beer coosies! Overall, a great experience, one that I highly recommend. Thank you Jeannie, and the rest of the people in Harvey who were so welcoming!”
English Creek Retreat is located just 2.5 miles south of the town of Knoxville on Highway 14. Surrounded by alfalfa fields, this small, one bedroom studio has a backcountry feel while being only a quarter mile off of the main highway.
“Of course Juile is a super host! She greeted us with a genuinely relaxed no-pressure and welcoming check-in. We were blown away at the personal touches in this particular Air BnB! The photos do not do justice to the extremely clean, decorated and well made cabin. This quaint space feels very open and accessible with its high ceilings, moveable sliding barn doors, many windows and thoughtful interior design. Everywhere I looked I saw IKEA branded furniture, appliances, lighting and more! If you know IKEA then you know it is well made, engineered for functionality and has exceptional craft. I felt like I was in an IKEA show room! Well done! One of my favorite features were the swiveling light fixtures on both sides of the bed. I was able to read my book in the early hours of morning without disturbing my sleeping partner. I also loved the electric fireplace situated in a vintage TV cabinet. This fireplace had a dozen different settings and really made the rainy day feel cozy as we played board games and settled in for a day indoors. The kitchen and bathrooms were gorgeous and spotless with many extra amenities not even mentioned in the listing! Another high five for Julie. I wish we could have stayed longer to fire up the grill and shoot some hoops, (both amenities are part of the private driveway at the cabin) but I guess we will save that for the next time we visit. Bottom line- If you’re looking for a place that is hassle free, spotless, well decorated and designed to provide you with a true feeling of comfort like your home away from home, this is the place! It is within a 5 minute drive to Knoxville and less than 10 minutes to beautiful Lake Red Rock. Don’t pass on this great stay...it really is better in person than in the pictures!”
There is a keypad on the cabin for self check in. We are on 7 acres close to Knoxville and Pella. The cabin is well stocked to meet your basic needs.
“We came down to Knoxville from Minneapolis looking for some peace and quiet outdoors, and this cabin was perfect for that! On our first night we made chili in the awesome kitchen (which had everything you could need) and slept like babies in the comfortable bed. The next day we went for a walk in the woods and spent time visiting with Sue and Daryl, they were delightful and even gifted us with some delicious homemade wine! We went into Des Moines for dinner and drinks, which was a short 45 minute drive from the cabin. Sue and Daryl were available for any questions and gave us some coffee/breakfast and dinner recommendations in the area. Our weekend away couldn't have been better!”
