Family-friendly vacation rentals in Lake Tekapo

I visited this place seven years ago, and coming back felt just like coming home—so heartwarming to see that the warmth and charm haven’t changed a bit. It was wonderful catching up with Julie and Tony—they're incredibly kind and welcoming. My friends and I loved the farm tour! Tony displayed shearing. We got to feed the sheep, a cow, and three llamas. It’s clear how much care Julie and Tony give their animals—there’s a real sense of humility and respect in everything they do. Farm life isn’t easy, and sadly, their lovely Airbnb might be closing next March. That would be such a loss. If you’re considering a visit, don’t miss the chance to stay here and experience this unique and memorable farm life.

We made a huge mistake when only booking this place for part of our stay. My thought was to jump around the South Island with my family at a couple stops. Had I known it was this awesome, then I would’ve booked our whole time at Anna’s. This place is exactly what my family loves. The kids will definitely be complaining about where we stay next. This property is AWESOME.

Simon is a warm and responsive host, always ready to assist even before my arrival. The Black House offers excellent privacy and enough parking space in the yard. It is a short 5-10 minute walk to the city center, where you will find the Dark Sky Project Base and various restaurants. The house is clean, cozy, and spacious, matching the photos perfectly. The kitchen is well-equipped, and there are laundry equipments in the master bedroom. An extra double bed on the second floor is there if you want to take the stargazing experience to next level. While the standalone heater wasn’t very effective during the chilly New Zealand autumn, the additional of heating mattress ensured warm, comfortable nights. The outdoor hot tub was a delightful bonus and I had a great time with it :) I highly recommend this accommodation for anyone visiting Lake Tekapo for a stargazing getaway trip.

great home base for exploring Mt Cook. Tania's place had everything we needed. the grill was super convenient. the bed was comfortable, but the pillows were too flat for us and the bed sheets were noisy. Tania was a great host and very responsive/accommodating. we would definitely stay here again.

Ian and Tia were very loving hosts and attentive to whatever we needed. The cottage is fully equipped to spend a few relaxing days there.

I was so lucky to book this treasure Airbnb that has been on TV! The stunning design really lives up to its reputation. Every corner is filled with an artistic touch, and I can take photos anywhere to set my social media on fire. The facilities are complete and comfortable, and the location is very convenient. Staying here makes me feel like a "star"! Highly recommended! 🌟

Such a beautiful home, you can definitely see how a real family in NZ upbringing close to nature, plenty of memories. Such a warm and sweet family. The fireplace and stag head definitely adds a lot of character to home. The rain shower felt amazing, and the bath tub with view definitely melts away your sore body and feet after a long hike. The view of the mountain really breathtaking. The kitchen is very well equipped and the fridge is big enough for a family. We stay for 3 nights and really enjoyed that we took a day off just to stay home and just chilling. At night with clear sky you get to see the Milky Way, shooting stars and even aurora! Definitely one of our unforgettable highlight in NZ trip!

This home is in a beautiful and serene setting. It was about 1.5h from Christchurch airport and was the perfect antidote to the craziness of flying. At night, the only thing we could hear was the breeze and the gentle rain. I’d love to stay for a week. Annie was incredibly friendly and the welcome basket with homemade granola was tops. The basket also included potato chips made from the potatoes grown on the property! The kitchen was amazingly well stocked and my kid got to try Milo for the first time.

We had a great stay at Frog Lodge - it was wonderful to be able to stay at such a lovely home that also welcomed our dogs. The fenced yard was perfect for them and we enjoyed sitting on the deck in the afternoon sun. We had such great communication from Jan in the lead up that we had no questions or concerns and everything went smoothly. We would love to stay again next time we are in the area and would 100% recommend a stay in Autumn, such a beautiful time of year in the area.

The place was close to the central strip of restaurants, market, sights and activities! Great location for our leg of the trip!

We had a fantastic stay here for a couple of nights. The setting was beautiful and Michele was kind enough to let us explore the stunning garden and enjoy some of her home grown veg. The welcome couldnt have been warmer. The accommodation was clean and cosy and was perfect for us and our two small children. A perfect alternative to staying in Tekapo. We would loved to have stayed longer. Would strongly recommend this place to others.

We loved this cute cottage. Owners had the heating on for us. Much nicer than phots suggested and wonderfully quiet as at the back of owners home. We were expected street front from the photos so it was a lovely surprise. Wished we stayed more than a night as Geraldine is so lovely.

A lovely quaint farm stay in a secluded area just outside Geraldine. The owners were lovely and accomodating and had gone above and beyond to make sure we had a nice time (including dropping Easter eggs off for our kids on Easter morning!).

Loved staying at Meg’s place! It was a peaceful getaway. Loved seeing the horses and foals. Also enjoyed the very friendly dog and cat. The cat gets chatty when they see you and greets you when walking out to your car or coming back to the property. Facilities were great! Highly recommend and would stay again.

Comfortable, clean and beautiful setting for our short trip to Pleasant Point. Ann was very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend!

This place was ideal for my writing retreat. It had everything I needed and was very comfortable. Having a writing desk and a proper computer chair was a real bonus and meant I could get on with my work and not end up with back ache. Lovely barn eggs and milk left for me too. I already am thinking about when I can come again! Thank you so much for everything!

We had a great stay, house was very comfortable and warm, lovely kitchen and bathroom. Everything you could need was provided. The house was even nicer than the photos, would definitely stay again if in Twizel.
