What a rare find!! Gordon and his wife are the perfect hosts -- full of information when needed but respectful of privacy. The Hutte is perfectly located for hiking. Gordon showed my teenage daughter, niece, and me a beautiful spot just up the road, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is easily accessible with lots of hiking options. They also directed us to a spectacular spot to watch the sunset. The Hutte is more spacious than the photos show. It is very comfortable and cozy. We loved sleeping with a view of the stars and waking up to birds singing. It is conveniently located between Sylva and Waynesville, so there were plenty of grocery, restaurant, and shopping options. We have already recommended this spot to our friends and look forward to visiting again!

This place was to me,like heaven on earth. landscaping was very pretty, birds singing, and the sound of the creek was so soothing.

Fantastic hosts! We felt very welcomed and wanted for nothing. The place was as described and very cozy. We even had muffins and fruit for breakfast! Great location with lots of things to do within an hour's drive or less. We'll definitely return!

My brother and I stayed with Gordon and Marie and our first Airbnb location could not have been better! We were treated to lots of great conversation and enjoyed peace and quiet as well. In our short stay, the Hutte became a home to us and it is in a convenient location where we were able to hike and explore the surrounding mountains. I definitely recommend staying here and I already want to plan to come stay again!

This airbnb experience was once of a life time memorable experience. The little cottage that awaits you is nothing but sweet and comfortable just like you were home. It is peaceful, and a breath taking view of the mountain and tree tops and don't forget to peep through the sky light during the night to see the stars and moon sparkling oh so bright. Not only was the cottage and atmosphere amazing but Gordon and Marie were the bright and heart of it all. They bring laughs, stories, adventure and love that makes you want to stay forever and almost never leave their side. They are helpful and just amazing people that you will never forget. Make sure to ask them about the maple, the motorbikes and just to sit with them and hear of how much they have done in their lives. It is and will always be an experience and adventure we will never forget and will definitely be back for many more years to come.

Loved the cabin, the wrap-around porch and the location was perfect. We felt we had access to lots of activities - good restaurants and grocery stores. The accommodations were attractive and comfortable. We loved staying there, we will recommend your place to others and you are definitely on our accommodations list for future travel!

My husband and I absolutely loved staying at Herb's cabin. As we drove up to the cabin the first thing we saw were the many potted flowers lining the steps of the cabin, and on the tables. As we entered the house, Herb left us a bottle wine, chocolates and some basic items like eggs, orange juice and pastries which I thought was really thoughtful. The cabin was very clean and homey feeling. The porch area is where we spent most of our time when we were at the cabin enjoying the pleasant weather, view of the mountains and watching the hummingbirds. The cabin is centrally located to cities such as Bryson City, Brevard, Maggie Valley, Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynesville and there is an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway about 2 miles away. There is a super Walmart about 15 minutes or less away in Waynesville for groceries. We would definitely go back to this cabin if when we go back to the North Carolina mountains. The Vromans

Herb is a great host with a very lovely cabin. We had a very relaxing week nestled in the mountains. The porch and backyard are tranquil sanctuaries which are soothing for the soul. Our dog loved the yard, hammock and fire pit. The house itself is very clean and we'll equipped for a comfortable stay. There are endless hiking opportunities within a short drive. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away and back into nature.

7/11/2016 This is a wonderful place to get away and relax. The Herb the owner was very considerate and checked in on us a couple time. But, we had the entire house to our selves. There are homes near by, but with all the beautiful trees and plants around you still had lots of privacy. We are looking forward to spending another week there next year.

We just returned from a four night stay at this wonderful home. Situated well up in the Balsam Mountains, it was quiet, peaceful, comfortable, yet convienient to the charming area towns, and the Blue Ridge Pky., which is maybe ten minutes away. Cherokee, the southern entrance to the Great Smokies Park, is an easy 30 minutes or so. The cabin is in an older gated neighborhood, so there is no disruptive traffic. You can see other homes below and across the road, but they are mostly concealed by the trees, and the owners are very quiet. We were very pleased that there were no barking dogs close by! There is a nice fire pit in the back (with wood provided) that we used one evening. The home was clean, well appointed and comfortable. We loved the wrap around porch. I chatted with Herb by phone when we arrived; he is a long time resident of the area, and can give you info about activities and destinations to explore.

This was my first Airbnb experience, but will probably not be my last. Tired after a long drive, I was reenergized on meeting Diannah. I felt immediately welcome at her home. As we walked through the house, I was struck by its simple beauty and cleanliness. Diannah offered a variety of teas and a jar of snacks for the evening. There were also fresh fruit, freshly ground coffee, a bagel and cream cheese for morning. Small cut flower arrangements throughout the house, bird feeders outside the window, lovely landscaping were some of the indications of Diannah's love of nature and her mountain home.

Diannah was an excellent host. She provided all the essentials needed and then some. Fresh bagels in the morning along with fresh ground coffee, fresh fruit and plenty of snacks. The apartment was as described and was a great central location for our trip. I especially appreciated the cleanliness of the apartment. It has a very serene setting, yet close to the highway. We were not expecting to not have cable (for football watching) because I didn't read the amenities closely, but it was not needed afterall. We found a good restaurant (Bogarts) within a 10 minute drive to watch the game. Diannah is a very accommodating host and she works hard to keep her guests happy. She is a lovely person and we hope to make it back to her home again someday!

It was a memorable visit to the wooden highlands of Waynesville and Pisgah, made more so by the hospitality and mindfulness of our host Diannah. She welcomed us, provided the warm and cozy overnight comforts, the convenient local snacks, gave advice to our trips to the waterfalls and parted ways by also showing us her craft. All these were to provide us with a really good time during our stay.

We really enjoyed the stay. Diannah is a great host and the place was very clean and comfy. Thanks so much for a great visit.

This was one of the nicest Airbnb accommodations we've had. The accommodations were very comfortable and beautifully done. Diannah's place is surrounded by her garden and the forest, and located close to Waynesville and Great Smokey Mountain National Park. She was a very pleasant hostess, and we look forward to returning.

My boyfriend and I wanted a cozy place in the mountains for a night and Dinnah provided just that! Not only is her newly remodeled apartment cozy, it's clean and filled with the essentials! Dinnah was a gracious host :) she met us at the door upon arrival gave us a quick tour of the place and left us with snacks. Neither of could have imagined a better first airbnb experience! If a quiet place, breathtaking scenery, and a super comfortable king size bed is what you are looking for, than this is the place! Touching nature in all its beauty from the comfort of a wrap around porch, gave us a rest for our souls. Our hosts were kind and fun to talk to, and they cooked us a health conscious breakfast the next morning. Nestled between Ashville and the NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center), this was the perfect place to stop and enjoy the BlueRidge mountains.

What a delightful long weekend at Karen's home. She went beyond our expectations in every way. Her place is so peaceful and serene. Our rooms were clean and beautifully appointed with special touches throughout. Plenty of clean towels and shampoo, soda and water and snacks in the mini kitchen. The bed was more than comfortable and the wifi was super fast and easy to use. But the real star was the view each day we were greeted by the loveliest sunrise and spectacular sunsets. My hubby, the photographer had a blast taking pictures. Did I mention Karen is also a talented artist with lovely artwork throughout the house and property that she did herself! Asheville was so close and several charming towns including Waynesville itself, restaurants and shopping abound. So much to do but if you just want to relax then this is the place. The best kept secret in Waynesville is out! Thanks again Karen for an amazing stay.

I had a wonderful stay at the peaceful mountain vista in Waynesville, NC. Karen went out of her way to make me feel comfortable in the house. The downstairs area was very roomy, had a separate living area with a huge bay window with a nice view and private bathroom. The bedroom area was huge. Very peaceful and quiet. The outside deck displayed such beautiful views that makes you want to not leave. Karen was very accommodating and helpful. Thank you Karen, I look forward to visiting again.

We're glad we chose Above the Clouds for our first Airbnb experience! Karen and her husband were more than welcoming upon our arrival, and had been extremely flexible and patient as our arrival time changed multiple times. The space is exactly like the photos depict except even more comfortable and cozy. All amenities you could need are included to make the stay as easy as possible. The entire home and surrounding grounds are beautiful and the views are simply jaw dropping. They were very helpful in providing directions to the multiple weddings venues we had to attend over the weekend and even told of some nice trails nearby where we could take a little hike. Karen had provided all we could ask for in the kitchenette to include beverages and snacks as well as toiletries in the bathroom. We hated leaving after such a short trip, but will definitely stay at Above the Clouds again the next time we find ourselves staying in Waynesville, would absolutely recommend to anyone!

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful mountain-side home. While the drive was quite steep in places on the dirt road up to the house, the view was unbeatable. We loved sitting by the fire on the back porch, looking out over the valley. If you visit, it's a place to come and plant. The weather was not great while we were there so we were unable to explore any of the trails around the property, unfortunately. However, we were able to spend an hour at the Nature Center which was a big hit with our kids.

We had a great time at Bruce and Colleen's place. They were very responsive and the place was wonderful. There is nothing to do in the nearby town but it is perfect if you are looking for a secluded getaway. The place is also about an hour from Asheville which is a cute mountain town. There are also many beautiful hikes about an hour's drive away.

This is a beautiful house and location. Communication was great. Colleen responded quickly to question and made booking and check in easy. They had toys that were great for our kids and a big yard for them to run in. We took the kids to Maggie Valley tube world for some fun in the snow!! We are so happy we stayed here for our long weekend vacation and we will be back!

A bottle of wine and suggested hikes and places to visit made us feel most welcome. The gas pot belly stove and candles create a very cozy atmosphere in the living room.

Pros and cons... Firstly, I must say that this place was fantastic! I would recommend this to anyone... Very accommodating, the location was top notch, it was so peaceful, and the view was perfect. We really got a lot of use from the remote controlled fire in the living room, and the upstairs is very large. Also, the beds were quite comfortable and the showers are full sized! Few things to consider to potential travelers: 1. The hill to get to the house is a bit steep, and if you have any concerns about your ability to manage, just be advised. I have a Tahoe, and it worked fine (with the occasional skid) 2. In the listing they mention there is no cable, which is accurate. Please be advised that if you wish to be "unplugged" from the world, this is a great fit. Otherwise, the lack of media (as well as no wifi) can be a burden with kids (or adults like myself who like football, lol) All in all, this place is GREAT and my family and I will be back!

If you are looking for a place that is quit, with beautiful scenery, and a very family-friendly neighborhood, this is the perfect spot. At about a 3500ft elevation on the mountain, thus cozy home is just the perfect gateway. It allowed the family to unplug from the world, and we got to spend a lot of time with each other, which was great. Bruce and Colleen were amazing! We arrived very late in the night, after driving up from Florida, so they stocked up with breakfast food for us so that we didn't have to worry about the ext morning. The experience was amazing!

Deni and John were wonderful hosts, and this was a fantastic place to stay. I highly recommend this rental, and hope to visit again! The room was prepared to the smallest detail, even with a custom welcome note as we walked in. Deni and John showed us where to hike around with our dog, and recommended great restaurants in nearby downtown Sylva. They respected our privacy and gave us space, and when we were rested and came up to talk, we enjoyed the conversation so much that it continued into the evening. Truly great hosts- thank you!

The drive up the side of the mountain to stunning views and very gracious hosts. I loved talking with them. I slept so peacefully and relaxed wonderfully. Next time you need a room in this area, with beautiful mountain views throw this one to the top of the list. I'll definitely be back

The little green cottage was a perfect place to stay! Kathleen was an excellent host and really made it a great experience with all the little details. It was so nice to have farm fresh eggs to use, as well as bagels and local coffee! The cottage was very clean, spacious and super comfy. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

We absolutely loved staying here! We needed a few days away from everything to relax, read, cook, and hike. This cozy cottage is secluded yet close to town and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Kathleen was so sweet to provide us with eggs and other breakfast essentials, and was very easy to communicate with. We hope to be back soon!

Lovely older cottage. Everything has been updated. Nice floors/rugs, All kitchen items newer and worked well. Shower is small but worked fine (plenty of hot water). Washer and dryer provided. Fresh farm eggs, bagels and cream cheese provided as well as a bottle of wine. Quiet surroundings. Owner on the same property, and was available if needed, but left us alone. Also she accommodated us with a 10x10 pop-up as a temporary garage for our motorcycles. Convenient to Waynesville and the Smokey Mountain Parkway. ***The below is ONLY for people with Motorcycles. *** (The driveway is fairly steep and hard packed gravel. You have to basically walk the bikes down, but it's fine going up. IF you are a confident rider you should be OK, but wanted it noted for less experienced riders)

Kathleen was a great host - warm and welcoming. We also really liked the cottage - it was very well equipped and cozy. Everything was in good shape and the cottage was nicely decorated. Really good Wi Fi connections as well and the fresh, home grown eggs and flowers were a real plus.

Kathleen was friendly and courteous. The fresh eggs along with the organic coffee was icing on the cake. The location was perfect for seeing WNC. We will definitely be staying there again.

I had a wonderful time. We had some difficulties getting to the property but was filled with relief when we finally arrived. I plan on returning with my husband and hopefully we will have more time to spend just enjoying the nature.
