Places to stay in Norfolk
Location, location, location! You will be hard pressed to find such a super, stylish little cottage that's got a better view of the Quay than this one. And there's a small parking space too. Situated at the far end of Wells harbour, this lovely character cottage enjoys fabulous views from both the kitchen and master bedroom across the Quay towards the marsh and sea beyond. Refurbished in 2018, Creek Cottage has been sympathetically updated and furnished in a low key relaxing style with comfort foremost in mind. There are two bedrooms (double and twin) on the first floor, along with a shower room. Down the Norfolk winder stairs on the ground floor is a well-equipped dining kitchen, cosy sitting room and a further bathroom. Outside is a small courtyard garden with seating. Perfect for enjoying a relaxing glass of wine or two at the end of a busy day. This bijou cottage is a true delight and is sure to be a very popular holiday choice for families, couples and friends. At full tide the harbour comes alive with fishing boats unloading their catch and local sailors setting out and returning from a day's sailing. Step out of the front door of Creek Cottage and you are just a two minute walk from the heart of this popular seaside town - Staithe Street, with its eclectic mix of cafes, restaurants and independent shops to browse selling absolutely everything. If you have left something behind, worry not, you will find it here and when you want to eat out, you are spoilt for choice with eateries to choose from. Additional Information Please note: Creek Cottage has steep Norfolk winder stairs, As with older, character cottages, they are enclosed, steep, curved and narrow. They are wooden with a solid hand rail on one side. Here there is a door at the bottom and a stair gate at the top of the stairs. Sorry, no pets. Ground Floor: Dining kitchen With a window overlooking the Quay, electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and fridge with ice box. There is a dining table with seating for four. Sitting room A cosy room with a gas 'stove', wide screen Smart television with built-in DVD player and Netflix available for account holders. Cloakroom With wash basin and WC. Bathroom With bath, overhead shower with rainfall shower head and separate handheld shower and wash basin. From the Sitting Room steep Norfolk winder stairs (there is a door at the bottom and stairgate at the top of the stairs) lead to: First Floor: Bedroom two With full-size single beds. Master bedroom The room with a view! With a double bed and french doors that open and offer wonderful far reaching views across the Quay to the marsh and sea. Shower room With shower cubicle, wash basin and WC. Outside: There is a small east facing courtyard garden with bistro table and seating. Parking is available either within the adjoining garage (though this is very narrow) or immediately outside the garage (space for a small car only). If you have a larger car you can raise the garage door and park the front of the car inside the garage. NB: Parked cars must not overlap the pavement, as this could incur a fine. There is alternative roadside parking close by or a pay and display car park.
  • This beautiful cottage is perfectly situated for long walks and pub dinners. The interior is smart, modern and comfortable and we were left a selection of treats to make us welcome, wine, biscuits, crisps, etc. We loved staying here, watching the ever changing tide in the harbour and the harbour life.

  • A fantastic cosy cottage with great views in an ideal lovely location. A welcome hamper was a great touch. Lots of games and books if the weather is bad, luckily we didn’t need them.

A truly special hideaway in a unique location within the walls of Holkham Park. The characterful, timber barn dates from 1880 and has been sympathetically renovated to provide a spacious, stylish and comfortable studio room with en suite shower, wood burning stove and garden. Within easy waking distance of Holkham Village, beach and NNR and the picturesque town of Wells-next-the-Sea. Continental style breakfast included. 3 night min stay July and August. 2 night minimum at all other times.
Large studio room with en suite shower room located inside the walls of Holkham Park - a truly unique location. Located in the garden of the owners home and surrounded by woods the sound of owls at night is common! Ideal for those seeking peace and tranquillity far from the madding crowds. Beaches and Holkham NNR within short walking distance as are several good pubs and restaurants and the town of Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Village. It is a short stroll through woods and parkland to Holkham Hall.
Wells next the Sea is a charming and popular coastal fishing port on the north Norfolk coast and within short walking distance of the barn. The renowned Holkham National Nature Reserve is also a short walk and there are 4000 acres of parkland to cycle or walk through on the doorstep. It is a great place to relax and unwind - quite in the winter months and though the town gets very busy in July and August, the barn is secluded and far from the madding crowds!
  • This place is a perfect cosy escape from the city. We thoroughly enjoyed running around the park each morning, which is right on the doorstep, and setting the log-fire up each night. Perfectly located between Holkham and Wells next the Sea and we explored both and their beautiful coast in our short stay here. We'll be back, highly recommended.

  • Great cozy escape with amazing log burning fire and possibly the best duvet I’ve ever slept under. Really quiet and peaceful with great pubs in walking distance and fantastic walks at Holkham Beach. Breakfast was provided each day and Johanna and team even did the washing up for you! Really great place to stay.

  • Comfy spot in loverly area, great for walking breaks, dog friendly as are the eating places in Wells, plenty of places to explore.

    Lesley2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our weekend break and it was memorable due to it coinciding with a storm and extreme wind, but the log burner, once lit, kept the room cosy and welcoming. A fantastic location for Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Hall.

  • Tucked back off the main road in the postcard setting of Holkham is David’s house with the room to let. He has appointed it beautifully with thoughtful touches and he is a very considerate host. This is somewhere you could flop for many days to take in the rich scenery and walks. A real find. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Ross2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cottage in the most stunning location. David is the perfect host and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommend.

    Cameron2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We were very pleased to stay in this gorgeous room in a charming cottage. Our bed was comfy and everything was spotless. David cooked full english for us for breakfast and provided a selection of muesli, yoghurt and fruit. The is cottage is situated a short walk away from the beach, which is really special. We stayed for just one night, but would happily return for a longer stay as we haven't fully capitalised on the amazing surroundings in Holkham.

    Ruta2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Right on the doorstep of Holkham Hall and close to the amazing Holkham beach and bird-watching centres at Titchwell and Cley.

    Matthew2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • David is a great host and staying here felt a real home from home. It’s a great location for walks at Holkham beach and right in the middle of all that north norfolk has to offer. So close to the Victoria Inn as well which is another nice bonus.

    Sarah2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty cottage in great location for visiting north Norfolk. David is helpful and low key. Excellent breakfast!

    Cathy2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing. David is so nice and has extensive knowledge of the surrounding area. A really nice man!

    Anthony2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage in the most perfect location. We used Davids bnb as a base for the day whilst in Norfolk for a photoshoot, David was so welcoming and couldn't do enough to help on the day, he also offered some great tips on places we could visit in the area. The cottage is beautifully decorated, clean and we had all the amenities we could have needed. We particularly appreciated the extra touches of a warm heater in the room and cups of tea to come back to between shoots as it was quite a cold day! Would highly recommend this place.

The cabin is a light comfortable carefully designed and newly built Scandanavian style self-contained building with a complete kitchen, separate shower room and pull down Very comfortable Queen sized bed. It has a television with integral DvD player and heating under the wooden floor. Great Wi-fi, Contemporary lighting. Please note that hot water runs for 5mins very hot then takes 30 mins to reheat to same temp. Please don't change the settings as this will blow the thermostat.
The cabin is in my garden, with parking and just one minute fom the quay And it’s own private patio.. It is central to the shops and restaurants and bars in lovely Wells. Twenty minutes walk to the beach. I make sure that essentials like tea and coffee are available. The bed is made up and there are lots of towels. Shampoo, shower gel and washing up liquid are also ready to go! The kitchen is well equipped for two guests.
Wells is lovely. The sea when the tide is up. Early mornings, the beach. The super independent shops, the pubs, cafes and delis. The ease of living in a small town with a bank, post office and friendly neighbours!

Sea Pink is two minutes' walk to Wells quay where you will find magical views, working fishing boats and an unspoilt wilderness. All within a few steps of fantastic restaurants and chic shops. Sea Pink is small but stylish - we have thought carefully about every detail for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Very clean, Smart TV & WiFi, high quality linen, parking. Wonderfully toasty. Sunny decking area. A mile to the huge, beautiful beach, lined with beach huts (including our own for hire).
We love Wells and want our guests to have a special time too. The decor of Sea Pink is designed to be calming, the cottage is equipped with everything you could think of and we can recommend our favourite things to do, see and eat depending on your interests. You might want to escape to the saltmarsh, beach or countryside and see some of the wildlife on our doorstep, sample delicious, local food, or explore the historic country estates. Sitting/Dining Room with dining table and chairs, sofa, armchair, monk's bench, flat screen Smart TV, DVD, CD player, WiFi, sound bar, clock radio with Blu-tooth speaker Kitchen with gas hob and electric oven, fridge with ice box, microwave, washer/dryer, Tassimo Coffee Machine and breakfast bar by stable door Bedroom with double bed and doors off leading to ensuite shower and small separate cloakroom with washbasin and wc. Garden: Decked courtyard with garden furniture. Parking: Designated car parking for one car. Heating: G.F.C.H. Also Provided: Towels. Hairdryer. Local magazines, DVDs, books and games.
The beach a mile from the harbour was named Sunday Times "Beach of the Year" in 2016 and it's not hard to see why. The wide open skies, the sense of freedom even on a busy day, the sweep of huts against the pine forest. Ask about our beach hut if you want to make your stay extra special. We have fantastic gastro pubs and cafes a short walk away (I can make recommendations) and great shops along Staithe Street. Or to find solitude and wildlife you don't have to walk far. Local OS map and walk books for use by guests.
  • Beautiful, comfortable and well appointed place in the centre of Wells ideal for exploring North Norfolk. We particularly loved the shower, comfy bed and all the wonderful local tips given to us. We walked to the beach, saw piglets and lambs, and enjoyed ice cream and delicious fish and chips in Wells. Zoe is a fantastic and generous host who thought of everything to make our stay special. She went out of her way to accommodate us and help us have the best time in difficult circumstances. We would love to come back post COVID-19!

  • A superbly located hideaway flat in Wells and handy for the North Norfolk coast. So close to all the amenities but such a quiet location too. Some lovely touches to the well appointed and stocked property. Everything you need for a stay; Just turn up with your clothes and enjoy. • Would really recommend this Airbnb if you're a couple or individual looking for somewhere to stay on the coast. The location couldn't be better, easy walking distance to waterfront cafes, shops, and the beach. Lots to do in the area and Zoe had loads of great tips. The accommodation was brilliant too. Very clean and lovely decor, modern but also cozy. We had everything we needed, comfy bed, great shower and kitted out kitchen if we didn't feel like going out for meal. Great place to stay!

    Alexa2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Zoe's apartment - it may be small but so well designed to make the best use of space and full of stylish touches. It's also very clean and comfortable and very close to the town, which has lots of great shops, pubs and restaurants. Zoe's information about the local area was really helpful as there's so much to see and do.

  • Very spacious and modern interior in an old farmhouse. Location perfect for accessing all of the North Norfolk nature reserves although you really need a car ( or bike!) as its a bit out from any village. Nice kitchen and bathroom. It was frosty when we were there but warm downstairs, bedrooms somewhat cooler but cosy quilts on comfy beds meant we got good sleeps.

  • Terri's place has everything you could need for a lovely stay by the beach, it was so warm and the bed was really comfortable. The facilities are excellent too and the cabin has real character and enough space to stay in if the weather isn't great. We had the best time, Wells is a lovely place, and Terri was the perfect host.

    Harriet2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay. 😊 The cabin is much more spacious than we thought, plenty warm enough too, even in a few cold nights as our stay was in March. Sizeable kitchen area was great to make our own meals in. A very comfy bed too, with clean and warm warm shower. Terri was lovely and welcoming, providing a few nice touches with tea, coffee and some milk in the fridge when we arrived. Great location too with Co-op just over the road to grab essential supplies. Ideally located for strolling down into town, but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of centre. We will be back soon 👌

    Bradley2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend the location of this pretty cabin. Within easy walking distance of the harbour and shops. Terri is a great hostess. We even had a great time in early November in very changeable weather.

The garden has a patio area with a bbq, 6 chairs, table and parasol and a lawned area ideal for children. This is a fantastic location right in the heart of Wells within walking distance of numerous shops and the quay.
Wells-next-the-Sea A delightful unspoilt historic town on the North Norfolk Coast with a jumble of old buildings and lanes still existing from its heritage as a port and former maltings industry. The picturesque quay and waterfront is still very much a working port with fishing boats still berthed in this small harbour and stalls selling locally caught shrimps, crabs and whelks. A popular place with sailors with many sailing and leisure craft here and local sailing tuition available. Children enjoy the facilities round the quay and the challenge of crabbing (gillying) from the steep harbour wall. The main shopping area of Wells is Staithe Street, a narrow, mostly pedestrianised lane with surviving Victorian and Edwardian shop fronts, that runs from the water’s edge right up to the top part of town. In the centre of the town is The Buttlands which is a large rectangular green lined with Georgian and late Victorian houses, which used to be used for archery practise in medieval days. Now it is home to the excellent Crown hotel and restaurant which is run by Kiwi celebrity chef Chris Coubrough, as well as The Globe Inn owned by the Holkham estate. The sandy beach flanked by pine forest is about a mile from the quay and can be reached by road, on foot along the causeway or via the miniature railway. Holkham Hall with its impressive 18th century Palladian architecture and 3,000 acre deer park is only a couple of miles away along the coast road.
  • This is an amazing apartment. Great space. Lovely and clean. Fantastic location. Would definitely stay there again.

  • You will be welcomed by a very gracious host in Tim. Very knowledgeable about the site, and the tips he gave on walking through the local area were priceless. The Accomodation its self was fantastic the decor is very rustic and has a homestead feel. I'm a very outdoorsy person and this really suited mine and my families needs. Will definitely be rebooking.

  • We spent the weekend here with our young children (3&5) and all thourally enjoyed it. It's so well positioned right next to Holkham Hall and a stones through from a variety of beautiful beaches. There's actually a perfect 10k run right through the park to the stunning Holkham beach, I must have seen over 100 deer! The weather was freezing outside, but we had a roaring fire and lovely hot shower so not a single complaint from either child, we dined outside too! The only thing I would suggest for young families is to take a few more games as we were under the impression there were some there but we could only find dominos. Great host and great memories!

  • Saw in the New Year at The Norfolk Brickyard, which had everything we needed to celebrate in style. The log burner kept us warm and cosy despite the freezing temperatures outside, and the outdoor (but sheltered) shower was warm but refreshing. Would definitely consider returning in the Summer to see more of the great beaches/ countryside Norfolk has to offer. Thanks for your hospitality, Tim.

    Simon2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tim would also be quick to respond and really helped in terms of finding things to do around the area. The tent was very clean and cosy and would definitely love to go back again!

  • Comfortable, close to nature and an excellent host. If you're looking for a getaway in Norfolk I would highly recommend, only a short drive away from RSPB tichrwell too!

    Cameron2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Despite the weather being wet and cold, we still had a wonderful time! Once the log burner was roaring, the tent soon warmed up. This is a great location to explore the surrounding area. It is so peaceful at night and you feel very secluded. The tent has all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. We will definitely be back in the summer time. Thank you Tim!

  • Ny husband & 2 9 year old girls all thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend at the Brick Makers Retreat Safari tent. Such a beautiful & peaceful setting that allowed us to relax & the kids to play with absolute freedom. The Safari tent was so cosy with the wood burner going and the beds were really comfy! Cooking outside was the best despite the rain & the kitchen was very well stocked with all the pots, pans & utensils we needed. After camping in the past & using the long drop the plumbed toilet & private shower was a luxury! A day on the beach a Brancaster & a day walking on Holkham beach is always amazing! Great evening meal at Seasons in Wells too! A great time had by all and we will be back next year!

  • Brilliant space in a lovely secluded spot. Hosts very welcoming and friendly. We love this part of the world and have stayed in many pubs and hotels locally, but this rustic, yet still extremely comfortable space added even more enjoyment and peacefulness to our mini-break. Thoroughly recommended!

  • A beautifully furnished and thorouguly clean house, with a lovely large garden that we spent a lot of time in. Big thanks to Kate for being an excellent host and providing lots of insider knowledge on the local area. Would recommend

  • Great location in Norfolk, short drive from the likes of Holkham, Wells, Burnham Market. Kate gave us lots of local tips and advice and communication was very good. The cottage itself is very cosy, well kitted out and there’s even a well stocked games cupboard. We also found the beds very comfortable! 10/10

  • A great cosy cottage in an excellent location Clean and comfortable Friendly host and well equipped accommodation Recommend for short break or longer stay

    Tristan2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's cottage is really lovely - so cosy, clean and welcoming (it was great to walk in and find a tea tray set out on the table, complete with chocolate biscuits!) It's very well located with off road parking, but so quiet and has pleasant green views (and quite dark skies for stargazing). There are free range chickens outside the front door and a good sized enclosed rear garden. We enjoyed relaxing with the log burner in the evenings and slept really well under the feather duvets! Another stand out point is how well equipped the cottage is. Plenty of plates, cutlery, cooking utensils etc in the kitchen, extra toilet rolls - small points which really make a break easier. There's also a very well stocked games cupboard, and lots of books and DVDs. We loved our stay and would love to return for longer!

Surrounding area Wells is situated on the North Norfolk coast which runs for some thirty miles from Hunstanton to Cromer. The North Sea is now a mile from the town, as a result of the silting of the harbour. The town has long thrived as a seaport and is now also a popular seaside resort with a popular beach that can be reached on foot or by a narrow gauge railway that runs partway alongside the mile-long sea wall north of the harbour. The Quay in Wells is the hub of activity during the summer months, especially at weekends. People come to walk or take the miniature train to the beach, to fish for crabs on the Quay (called gillying), sample locally caught fresh shell fish and, of course, partake of good old local fish and chips! You can also buy Samphire which is found growing on the marshes locally. If you want to see the quieter side of Wells, head off through some of the back streets and you will find plenty of pretty traditional cottages and gardens or wander up Staithe Street which has a wealth of shops, both traditional and modern. Wells and Holkam Beaches: To get to Wells beach you can either walk along the sea path, take the railway to the Caravan Park or drive and park in the carpark. Beware as in the summer the car park can be very busy indeed and you may have to queue. Wells beach is famous for its gaily painted beach huts and sand dunes. Some beach huts can be rented by the day. The beach is backed by dense pine woods which are part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve. The woods comprise Scots pine, Maritime pine and Corsican Pine growing on sand. More pinewoods exist to the east of the beach over the shipping channel at an area called the East Hills. This can be accessed on foot at low tide though all of the tidal sands in the area are extremely dangerous due to the speed and currents of the rising tide. It is not advisable to cross the channel without detailed local knowledge. The sea is very shallow and swimming is only really possible at high tide. However, since the channel was built for the boats to supply the building of the new off-shore wind farm, there is a new channel which you can use for swimming. Do take care when the tide starts to come in - it's fast. Wells has its own lifeboat station on the beach and has both an all-weather lifeboat and an inshore rescue boat. The old lifeboat house, now used as the harbour offices, is at the western end of the quay In 1880, Wells was the scene of a lifeboat disaster in which 11 of the 13 lifeboat crew drowned, leaving 10 widows and 27 children without fathers. A memorial to the crew stands adjacent to the old lifeboat house. Visitors are welcome to look around the lifeboat house on the beach and there are open days and displays at various times of the year. Further to the west you will find Holkham beach and, of course, Holkham Hall, home to the Earl of Leicester. You can park in Queen Anne's Drive which leads up to the beach (it's paying). Holkham Bay is a stunning flat expanse of sand which gives you quite a walk to the sea when the tide is out. It's great for kite flying, exploring the sand dunes, horse riding or just taking in those big Norfolk skies. Surrounding Wells: The North Norfolk coast has a varied landscape. In the West, the coastline is a maze of creeks and inlets in a vast expanse of salt marsh and mudflats. It's a birdwatcher's paradise and whatever time of year you visit, there will always be plenty to see. Further East towards Cromer, the countryside takes on a more rolling aspect, with steep cliffs rising from the sea. The coast is rich in nature reserves and bird sanctuaries including Titchwell and Cley Marshes, Pensthorpe Waterfowl Park and Fairhaven Garden Trust. There is also the Norfolk Coast Path, which runs from just outside Hunstanton to Cromer. If birds don't take your fancy, you can also go and see the seals at Blakeney Point. You have to take a boat trip and these are available all along the cost including Wells, Morston and in Blakeney itself. Staying with the coast, there are plenty of pretty villages to visit with traditional flint cottages and quaysides including Blakeney, Cley and Brancaster. Some of these have good access to the brach and most have pay and display car parking during the summer months. Brancaster has a beach road and a car park and the beach is stunning, particularly if you walk away from the busier stretch where you can sometimes have the place pretty much to yourself. Inland, there are a number of attractive village which are well worth a visit. For example, there is the small village of Burnham Thorpe where Nelson grew up. Here you'll find the Nelson pub and the village church, which has a small exhibition about its most famous son. If you want something more up market, you could visit Burnham Market which has a number of high class shops and restaurants including the renowned Hoste Arms - booking essential. Further to the East and slightly inland is the town of Holt which is another old market town with good shops and restaurants. You could take the scenic route to Holt by travelling from Sheringham on the North Norfolk Railway, the Poppy Line. In the season there is an old double decker bus which will take you from Holt station into town and back again. It's a fun trip. Norfolk is also littered with country houses, many of which are open to the public. The most famous is Sandringham, a favourite retreat for the Royal Family. Holkham Hall, the family home of the Earl of Leicester is certainly worth a visit and is walkable from Wells. You can visit the Hall itself, the Bygones Museum or just have a snack in the Stables cafe. There are many events throughout the year including drama, concerts, annual Halloween fun and much more. Be prepared to pay though - the 'young' Earl is a shrewd business man whose determined to keep the Hall alive and kicking. A good round walk from Wells is a round trip to Holkham, around the grounds and back again. It will take you about three hours but you can always stop for a drink and some food at the Victoria pub and restaurant at the entrance to the Hall on the coast road. Further afield - Norwich and King's Lynn are both approximately 30 miles from Wells and offer a good day out, be it shopping, museums, theatre, cinema, eating out or dancing. Hunstanton is also worth a visit either for walks along the beach in search of ammonites, or to visit the Sea World Centre - the stingray pool is always a big hit with the children. At the other end of the Coast lie Sheringham and Cromer, two larger resort towns. Sheringham is also home to the North Norfolk Railway. The railway operates both steam and diesel trains. There's lots of other things as well as the train ride, including meals aboard The North Norfolkman, education days, numerous special events throughout the year including an annual Thomas the Tank Engine Day when you can meet the Fat Controller in person. You'll pass through some lovely countryside and might want to stop off at the picturesque station at Weybourne which has been recreated as a traditional station and can be seen in Love on a Branch Line starring Leslie Phillips as well as featuring in Dad's Army and the Inspector Alleyne series, amongst many others. More things to do There are lots of good websites with information on what to do or you can drop into the Tourist Information Centre in Staithe Street. The staff are very helpful adn there are lots of leaflets and guides.
  • Very comfortable cottage in a great location

    David2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very close to the centre of Wells and there was never a problem with parking just outside - though we were in the depths of winter and there weren't many visitors about. The cottage is snug, but was big enough for the two of us easily. It is very well equipped indeed, with lots of thoughtful touches. It was warm and cosy. Jessica's communication was excellent throughout, we had one little issue which was dealt with very smartly. We would definitely go back.

  • Lovely location for exploring the Norfolk coast path

    Catherine2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Greylag cottage is just the perfect place to stay when visiting Wells next the Sea . It is really well appointed and sparking clean and so comfy and snug. Jessica has thought of everything in the cottage , logs are supplied for the wood burner too, but you will need to get more if required. Its only a short walk to the quay where you will find restaurants, pubs and all sorts of interesting shops. Parking was ok for us, but I imagine in peak season it could be a lottery. In summary you won't go wrong staying at Jessica's beautiful cottage its 100% perfect for all your needs when staying in Wells next the Sea.

  • I booked to spend four days in the cottage over Christmas with my mum, based on the exceptional reviews on this website. Was not disappointed. Lovely, cosy little cottage in the perfect location - easy strolling distance to the Quay, coast and village centre with its cute cafes, delis, boutiques and fabulous restaurants. Jessica was the perfect host - we were greeted on arrival with a card and bottle of Prosecco, and the cottage was decorated with tasteful and pretty Christmas decorations (after she had checked we would like decorations). I had several questions during the course of our stay, and Jessica was incredibly fast to respond, always helpfully. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and would definitely return if in the area.

  • Dot’s studio is very stylish, cozy and comfortable and has everything you need. It is a short walk from the centre of Wells less than 10 mins.and there is parking just outside the studio....The studio has everything to enable you to cook which we did and Dot kindly left us bacon, eggs, butter, milk, tea and coffee and scones which were yummy and which we felt was a lovely kind gesture. Dot’s place is very warm and the bed and the sofa are very comfortable. The bedroom has views looking out to the sea and it was very quiet just hearing the birds. Dot’s place is very stylish with a rustic country feel. Dot was very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend this studio and would stay again for sure Thank you Dot 😊

  • This is the second time we stayed at The Nest and we'd recommend it again. Great place to stay and enjoy exploring the delights of Wells-Next-the-Sea. The host greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely stay again!

  • Warm, cosy and cute! The perfect location for a weekend away in Wells. You can walk to every pub, fish & chip shop and bakery that Wells has to offer (I speak from experience!). The Nest was a welcome warmth from Storm Ciara, a cosy little room with a comfy (although slightly noisy) bed. Everything was spotlessly clean and cannot be faulted. Thank you for a lovely weekend at the Norfolk Coast.

    Beth2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, lovely clean apartment. Instructions for access not to clear as past the pub is another turning, took us a while to locate and makesure it was the location before we drobe on someone else's property. Take some ear plugs as the road is noisey, mattress was a bit springy too. But was very clean and great amenities! Just small suggestions to help make it a lovely stay for future guests! Great location walking distance to town and harbour Thanks 😊

  • The Nest is a small self contained apartment with a very clean en-suite w.c and shower room. Bedding is provided as well as some basic toiletries. There are tea/coffee making facilities and a toaster plus a microwave/grill/oven in a small kitchen area with cutlery and crockery for two people. A dining table and chairs are in the room along with a tv with integrated dvd player. There is parking on site which is rare in Wells. The Nest is about a 10 minute walk to the centre of the town and Quay. The beach is a good 15-20 minus walk from the town but in summer a minature train runs every 15 minutes. Peter and Linda are lovely hosts and have lots of tips and recommendations for places to visit and eat.

  • My partner and I stayed here for a few nights over the new year period and had a great time. Really good location, only a 10 minute walk from the harbour, and a great pub just a few doors down. Hosts were very accommodating and friendly, and the 2 family dogs on the property were an added bonus for us :). Overall we highly recommend a stay here.

Wells-next-the-SeaA delightful unspoilt historic town on the North Norfolk Coast with a jumble of old buildings and lanes still existing from its heritage as a port and former maltings industry. The main shopping area of Wells is Staithe Street, a narrow, mostly pedestrianised lane with surviving Victorian and Edwardian shop fronts, that runs from the water's edge right up to the top part of town. The sandy beach flanked by pine forest is about a mile from the quay and can be reached by road, on foot along the causeway or via the miniature railway.Holkham Hall with its impressive 18th century Palladian architecture and 3,000 acre deer park is only a couple of miles away along the coast road.

The perfect romantic bolt hole for two, tucked away in a square of old fishermen’s cottages. The Hideaway is ideally located less than 2 minutes walk from the historic harbour. This single storey property has been completely renovated to a high standard while maintaining its seaside charm. It also has its own private parking space right by the cottage.
Wells-Next-the-Sea is a quaint fishing port full of character and history. The harbour still has working crab and lobster boats along with the Albatross, the Dutch sailing barge moored on the quay. The stunning sandy beach with it’s colourful 200 beach huts is a short walk away along the rideway. Narrow streets wind from the harbour to the Butlands, a Georgian square surrounding the town green. The Hideaway is tucked away in the conservation area of Brig Square where some of the cottages date back to the mid 1600s. Wells-Next-the-Sea is just part of the wonderful North Norfolk coast. Miles of sandy beaches, beautiful countryside and renowned restaurants and pubs have made this area one of the top ‘all year’ destinations in the UK. This diverse coastline forms part of the largest nature reserve in England with up to 5000 seals and some of the best birdwatching in the country. The lovely Georgian towns of Holt and Burnham Market are nearby as well as Blakeney, Brancaster, Holkham and Cromer.

The adventurous spirit will enjoy this high-end apartment as a place to return to each day with all of the gadgetry that it offers to make any stay as enjoyable as possible. Cunningly tucked behind two other apartments, and whilst offering no views of the Harbour, the Herons Hideaway has a backdrop of the rooftops of Wells-next-the-Sea. The apartment has been renovated and finished to the highest of standards with a good-sized living area which has been opened to the rafters, giving a lovely sense of space and a wonderful light and airy feel. This sitting area is decorated in a seaside theme and has a stylish, comfy sofa and chair, allowing for relaxing evenings, with the enjoyment of the large Samsung LED SMART T.V. and sound-bars should this be your entertainment of choice. An I-pod docking station provides you an alternative option for easy listening of your holiday playlist! If you choose to eat in, a well-proportioned dining area for two leads into the well-equipped kitchen, overlooking the busy working yards of the local eateries, and located to the very rear of the building. A washer dryer, fridge, freezer and microwave are also in residence should you need to make use of them. The sleek en-suite is equipped, for your convenience, with the choice of bath or overhead shower. All in all, The Herons Hideaway is an absolutely exquisite one bedroom apartment just perfect for that special self-catering holiday for two.
Wells is one of the larger coastal towns on the North Norfolk Coast and has something for everyone. From the long sweeping beach bordered by pine woodland and the busy little harbour with small fishing boats and children fishing for crabs, to perusing the little unique shops on Staithe Street, Wells has plenty to offer. Most visitors make their way down to the Quayside or motor along the causeway to the beach but a short walk through the town reveals the Buttlands, a quiet green surrounded by lime trees and lined with fine Georgian and Victorian houses, quiet pubs and restaurants. Delicious fish and chips can be found down on the Quay and the café at the beach serves delicious light lunches, teas coffees and ice creams. Wells has more of a buzz than the smaller coastal villages and comes alive during the annual Carnival in the summe, a week of family fun including live music, performances, competitions, fun-runs and BBQs. There are also traditional seaside activities include a sand-castle competition, town crier competition and gillying on the quay. It also raises funds for local charities. The beautiful sandy beach, with its pine trees, sand dunes and colourful beach huts, is Wells' most famous feature. Walk for 1.5 miles or so along the golden sands and you'll end up in Holkham. Gwyneth Paltrow walked across this very beach during the closing scenes of Shakespeare in Love. Whether you decide to collect shells, fly a kite or build a sand castle, this is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and deservedly so! For nature lovers, you can spot oyster catchers and ringed plovers, who nest on the beach, along with some common and little terns.

Relax and enjoy garden views from this hidden gem in Wells-next-Sea. This warm and spacious ground floor, en-suite room with king size bed is located in a character brick and flint barn conversion. It has its own private entrance, garden and secure off-road parking. The secluded garden is perfect for experiencing peace and quiet after a day exploring the Norfolk coast. Ideally situated for the town, shops and restaurants, the room is within easy walking distance of the Quay and beach beyond.
The room is well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities and a small fridge. We offer complementary teas, coffee, biscuits and fresh milk in the fridge. You're welcome to bring your own cereal or light breakfast. Bowls and cutlery provided. There are two tables and armchairs in the room. Outside there are patio tables and chairs, parasol and garden benches. It's a stunning setting to enjoy the garden and church tower views. There's a Full HD Smart TV with catchup (Netflix available to log into if you have an account) and excellent WiFi. The ensuite is a shower room with toilet and basin. We supply bed linen, towels, toiletries, iron and a hair dryer. The Guest Information book is packed with local info and leaflets on the many activities to do in the surrounding area. Our favourite is a boat trip to see the seals, followed by fish and chips on the Quay with its bustling harbour.
Outside the drive is the Coast Hopper Bus stop with connections to the surrounding coastline, villages and towns. Buses run every 30 mins during the height of the season. It's great for a day out walking the coast path, taking in a pub lunch and getting the bus home. Check out this site for local information https://www.explorenorfolkuk.co.uk/wells-beach.html

  • A beautiful setting with off road parking. The property was well lit, quite private with a wonderful garden to admire and use if the weather permitted. A short walk to town but close to a public house which served delightful food. The elegant church was close as well. Wells next the Sea is a perfect place to get away and this property was good value and the host replied very quickly to enquires.

  • This is a very nice room with en suite bathroom in the lovely seaside town of Wells. The communication is excellent throughout the visit with very comprehensive directions and a key box which makes arriving at any time very easy. Parking is close to the property. The bed was very comfortable and the room has plenty of space and is well furnished. It is the small touches which really help as well. Having use of a small fridge in the room and cutlery to allow you to have cereal for breakfast is a nice touch. In addition there is a good selection of hot drinks to make for yourself and Fiona even provides a carton of milk and bottled water in the fridge upon arrival. There is even a packet of biscuits to munch on. The property is very quiet and well situated a short ten minute walk from the sea front where you will find a range of restaurants, cafes and pubs so plenty of choice when it comes to food. Would certainly recommend this property.

A cool and contemporary conversion of an old boathouse with a pretty courtyard garden and parking, just a short walk from Wells quay and the centre of this bustling little seaside town. This stylish hideaway, a favourite with our guests, is set in a quiet and peaceful location yet is only a short walk to all the pubs, restaurants and shops. Although small in size, this 'cute as a button' property delivers in bucket loads. With quality fixtures and fittings throughout and a stylish vibe, this little gem is a great place to stay all-year round. With most of the accommodation on the first floor, you have the added benefit of a parking space for a medium sized vehicle in the garage beneath the living area - a rarity in Wells! This bijou detached property allows couples to enjoy plenty of privacy too, with a pretty sheltered courtyard garden to the rear, which is ideal for enjoying a morning coffee and reading the newspaper or dining alfresco on warmer days. Additional Information Sorry no pets. Sorry, no children. Although there is a garage, it is only possible to park a medium-size family car inside the garage due to the narrow road. Larger/estate cars will have difficulty accessing due to the lack of turning space. Please note that the walkway to the side of the property which provides access is narrow. Great for a couple or couple with one child
Two minutes from the quay, coffee shops and delicatessens.. I’m afraid cooking facilities are simple and are limited to a microwave. Tea coffee bread and marmalade are provided
  • We’ve stayed here three years in a row and couldn’t be happier with the place. The same excellent accommodation/location as always. We also appreciated the new changes to the front room!

    Rachel2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kate is a very hospitable hostess and the apartment is in a great location for exploring north Norfolk. We spent a lovely New Year here. The apartment was a little difficult to find and you should follow the instructions Kate gives rather than putting the address in the satnav!

  • Nice quiet, cosy, warm, modern flat right in the centre of Wells. The kitchen was better than I was expecting from the details given, with fridge, microwave, kettle and all crockery etc. I didn't find the lack of a cooker any problem, and there are plenty of local eating places.

    Chris2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's place is really lovely. The rooms were much bigger and with more character than I expected from the pictures. Very central location but nicely tucked away. Brilliant communication throughout. Fully recommend.

  • We have stayed here before and would be happy to return. Perfect location as 2 minutes from waterfront and just off main street. Close to restaurants and great walks. The flat is cosy , small but well thought out. As it has no cooker (there is a microwave though) not a place for preparing meals, but great fish and chips close by.

    Maria Lia2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a week at Kate's, good location with parking. Comfortable accommodation and we would not hesitate to stay at Kate's again if we return to Wells.

Crabpot cottage is 60-seconds from Wells harbour in the heart of the town. It is a snug, 200-years old fisherman's cottage; cosy living space, gardens and parking. Wood burner, central heating, washing machine and WiFi make it ideal for short breaks or weeks away.
Crabpot cottage comprises of a relatively compact kitchen (oven, microwave, induction hob, fridge, breakfast bar table and chairs, washing machine and dish washer) opening onto the garden and a cosy lounge - with woodburner. At the top of the (steep) stairs are two double bedrooms - two single beds and a double - and a bathroom. Bedding and towels are provided. In addition to the woodburner, the cottage is fully central heated. 200-years ago people were shorter so, while there is good ceiling height, the door frames are LOW! It is a traditional self-catering holiday cottage, and the photos give a good impression of what the cottage is like. It works especially well for families or couples who want to enjoy the delights of a Norfolk rural/coastal small town and fishing port.
Wells-Next-The Sea is a bustling seaside town during the summer but becomes a quite haven during the winter months: very popular with walkers and bird watchers. The town offers numerous good places to eat, to drink and to shop! The local area offers a wide variety of scenery and other attractions.
  • Lovely cottage very cozy with everything you need

  • Crabpot is a fabulous cottage, oozing character and in a perfect spot in the heart of Wells. It's cozy but was perfect for us (a young family of four) and Adrian was an excellent host with great local tips for food and activities. We are already planning our next visit.

  • Lovely cottage clean and tidy. Great wood burner. Would definitely recommend.

  • Burnham Cottage is small (but not too small) and perfectly formed. A well renovated cottage, warm & cosy with some quirky touches. A great location and parking wasn't too stressful. Was lovely to have everything to hand and in all it was the perfect birthday celebration!

    Dianne2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in a great town. Really well located for the beach, town and links to the west. We always found a place to park on the street outside, but noted that the car park down the road was available and had spaces free. Recommend Wells Crab House and French's Fish and Chip Shop, which are a stones throw from the property.

    Samuel2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Burnham cottage was perfect for our stay. Spotlessly clean throughout & very homely with a comfortable bed & heated flooring downstairs. It was well located near the harbour, shops & restaurants. And it's so dog friendly in Wells it almost felt like we had booked it solely for the dog! Highly recommended!

    Justine2019-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • A great find and lovely cottage. The only challenge is the stairs to the the first floor, as they are really steep and could be an issue for those who don’t have great mobility, especially as the toilet is downstairs.

    Alexis2019-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cottage, Wells-next-the-Sea is one of our favourite Norfolk towns to visit. The cottage has everything you need, large garden, clean usable kitchen with everything you need, we can’t fault the place, the only negative would be that the staircase is very steep and isn’t pointed out and on a lazy note, no dishwasher, but a truly lovely cottage to holiday in .

Wells-next-the-SeaA delightful unspoilt historic town on the North Norfolk Coast with a jumble of old buildings and lanes still existing from its heritage as a port and former maltings industry. The picturesque quay and waterfront is still very much a working port with fishing boats still berthed in this small harbour and stalls selling locally caught shrimps, crabs and whelks. A popular place with sailors with many sailing and leisure craft here and local sailing tuition available. Children enjoy the facilities around the quay and the challenge of crabbing (gillying) from the steep harbour wall. The main shopping area of Wells is Staithe Street, a narrow, mostly pedestrianised lane with surviving Victorian and Edwardian shop fronts, that runs from the water's edge right up to the top part of town. In the centre of the town is The Buttlands which is a large rectangular green lined with Georgian and late Victorian houses, which used to be used for archery practice in mediaeval days. Now it is home to the excellent Crown hotel and restaurant which is run by Kiwi celebrity chef Chris Coubrough, as well as The Globe Inn owned by the Holkham estate. The sandy beach is flanked by a pine forest is about a mile from the quay and can be reached by road, on foot along the causeway or via the miniature railway.Holkham Hall with its impressive 18th-century Palladian architecture and 3,000-acre deer park is only a couple of miles away along the coast road.

  • Fantastic place with a real comfortable feel about it in the perfect location. The views are stunning, especially early morning. It’s only a short walk to shops, pubs and restaurants and not far to drive to a decent sized supermarket. Having car parking space is a bonus too. The house is stylish, beautifully decorated with a lot of thought and has everything you would need, including good quality large fluffy bath towels - luxury ! We were a party of 6 adults and 2 small dogs and it suited our needs perfectly for a much needed, relaxing weekend break. We all loved it, including the dogs.
