Places to stay in Laugharne
(LAUGHARNE BARNS) The Barns are ideally situated just outside Laugharne ( 1.5 miles) with pubs, places to eat and lovely walking routes. Pendine is 5 minutes away with its safe bathing and glorious miles of soft golden sands. Further along the coastal route is Amroth and Saundersfoot where there is access to the beach for swimming, plus a range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Tenby with its glorious beaches and quaint cobbled streets is only 15 miles from The Barns.
  • Lovely stay with friends and kids, house was really well equipped and a lovely welcome hamper, amazing value and sparkling clean. Pendine is an amazing beach and Laugharne is fab for rock pooling. Thanks and we hope to see you again

  • The Barn was absolutely beautiful and Robert was a fantastic host. He made sure that we had everything we needed and and kept us well informed before our arrival. The Barn was very spacious but homely feeling and was absolutely spotless. The welcome pack on arrival was a really nice treat after a long journey as well, full of lots of local welsh goodies! The weekend was booked as a surprise for my Dads 50th and the whole experience of staying at the Barn really made his birthday. The location of the Barn is perfect as you really feel as though you are escaping all of the hustle of bustle of normal life. I will definitely be looking to stay here again and already can’t wait to go back!

  • What a fantastic holiday cottage for our first mini family holiday away. The place was spacious, clean, warm and very peaceful. It was the ideal setting to relax and unwind. We were extremely lucky with the weather and managed a few dry and sunny days out to Tenby and Laugharne itself. I highly recommend this cottage whether you're a couple looking to get away for a couple of nights or a big family holiday getaway . There's plenty of room! Robert is a great host and he couldn't have done more for us. Super quick with replying as well. Cheers

  • Upon arrival we were met by a wonderful open plan living area, and a home that had been meticulously cleaned prior to our arrival. There is plenty of space to sit and relax, as well as to dine. The host left a wonderful basket of goodies which again shows thoughtfulness and attention to detail. The kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials, and a large fridge freezer provides enough space for your holiday essentials (wine). Some games, books and local information are also available. The small village nearby provides eateries, a fabulous castle and pleasant place to walk. All in all, we had a great stay.

Compact and cosy, with everything you need including wifi, an enclosed patio for alfresco dining and private parking. Bathroom; shower. Open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area on ground floor. Enclosed patio with table and chairs to the rear or the property.
Come and discover the magic of Laugharne- The beautiful township that has earned global attraction due to it being the home of famous poet Dylan Thomas. Steeped in history and sitting on the estuary of the river Taf- With its 12th Century Castle, Dylan's Writing Shed and Boathouse as mentioned above, quaint cottages, Georgian houses and cobbled streets, without mentioning an array of great places to eat and drink- It is a truly special place to stay. Daffodil Cottage is also the perfect base to explore the rest of West Wales and Pembrokeshire. Beautiful beaches such as Pendine, Saundersfoot, Amroth and Tenby are just a short drive away, and gems such as the harbour village of Porthgain and Wales' smallest city, St Davids, are a little further afield but are not to be missed on your visit. Whether it's history, wildlife, outdoor activities or just simply appreciating beautiful places that interests you, West Wales has it all.
  • This is a lovely well cared-for cottage in the centre of Laugharne. It’s very easy to walk to Dylan’s boathouse, grave and the castle, as well as all the local amenities. It is very private and includes excellent private parking, off the road (on tarmac). It’s on a tiny road that’s very quiet. The place is very clean and has everything you need to cook and live for a few days, a week however long you stay. The host is excellent and will tell you anything you need to know. The check in is very easy too. We would definitely return to this sweet cottage.

  • Daffodil Cottage is a lovely little cottage in an ideal location in Laugharne. The cottage was super clean and we were welcomed by a little basket with some Welsh cakes and Bucks Fizz. Enfys was helpful before and throughout the trip. We took our two small dogs with us and they thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Would definitely recommend!

    Amy2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to spend Christmas. Was warned it might be a bit small for my partner, myself and the 3 boys, but it was plenty big enough. Lots of lovely walks near by, as well as places not too far by car. Some really lovely beaches to visit, even if it isn’t a lovely sunny day. Easy communication and lots of tips on places to go/eat. A lovely basket of goodies and a Christmas card were a lovely touch. Couldn’t have picked a better place for our Christmas away and would recommend to anyone wanting a trip to South Wales.

    Kristine2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • You won't be disapointed.

  • A cosy little place in the middle of Laugharne with a well-equipped kitchen. A good base to explore West Wales - Saundersfoot, Barrafundle and Tenby aren’t too far. Just a note that a lot of the restaurants were shut on Monday (it might just be a winter thing) so would recommend stopping off in Camarthen en route to grab supplies. A lovely stay - Enfys was a great host and answered all our questions.

  • We have just returned from our second stay at the beautiful Daffodil cottage. The cosiness and comfort of the little cottage with its excellent facilities and location made our visit once again very special. Looking forward for our third visit sometime in the New Year!

Sitting above the Taf Estuary, Holt Cottage provides a perfect location to enjoy the peace and tranquility of an unspoilt part of Wales. Situated on the Welsh Coastal Path, we provide a base from which to explore the glorious Welsh coastline. A haven for wildlife with regular sightings of red kites, badgers and for the lucky few, otters at play. Holt Cottage is set in the countryside that Dylan Thomas would have gazed upon and has view of his Boathouse and Writing Shed.
Holt Cottage is a self contained cottage attached to our property. You have your own patio, ideal for al-fresco dining and BBQs with stunning views over the Taf Estuary across to Laugharne. Downstairs, you have an open plan living and dining area with patio doors making the most of the view. You have a fully equipped kitchen complete with washing machine, fridge and chest freezer. Upstairs you will find a double bedroom with ample storage and countryside views, a family bathroom with bath and shower and, to the front of the property, a family room with one double and one single bed. The cottage has it's own parking and gardens.
We love the combination of coast and country. Surrounded by dairy and sheep farms, the cottage is a beautiful place just to sit, relax and watch the sun reflect off the waters of the estuary. Sunsets are particularly breathtaking. One mile up the hill, you have the small village of Llanybri with it's pub and Thai restaurant. A mile and a half around the headland, you have one of Wales' hidden gems, the seaside village of Llansteffan, complete with village pubs, castle and glorious sandy beach. You must try Florries Fish and chip stall on the seafront. The market town of Carmarthen is 8 miles away and provides ample shopping, eating and entertainment. Across the estuary, you find Laugharne, a delightful medieval township famed for it's links to the late Dylan Thomas. The coastal road then passes the famous Pendine beach and Museum of Speed. Tenby and Narbeth are an easy drive away. Whether you are a lover of food, the outdoors, looking for a quiet romantic retreat, or great family times, we hope you will find it here with us at Holt Cottage.
  • Great location, fantastic hosts and the chickens were great! Thanks too for the fresh eggs they laid! Love this part of Wales.

  • A fantastic home, location and host. We had a wonderful weekend, which was made very straightforward for us by Mark. The accommodation was even better than expected and the views were wonderful. Would highly recommend staying here and visiting this beautiful part of the world.

  • This is a lovely place to stay and relax - calm peaceful comfortable with beautiful views over the estuary and a private patio to sit out on. The weather wasn’t very kind to us over the 3 days we were there but the serenity of the location was more than compensation. Although remote the host gave us excellent directions and lives in the adjoining cottage so is on hand to help out if needed which was nice given the remoteness of the location. I would highly recommend this place to stay.

This apartment is all on the ground floor and can sleep 4. There is a super king size bed and double sofa bed, both in the same room. It has a high ceiling and big sash windows which allows the light to flood in. There is a kitchen area, lounge area and a separate bathroom and lobby area. There is a small patio area outside the entrance door. There is a car parking area to the side of the main house. Access is via a pathway from the car parking area. The garden is not available for guests' use.
This Servants Hall has been lovingly renovated and is part of the main historic Georgian house and can sleep 4. There is a super king size double bed and a sofa bed in the same room. It would be suitable for a family to share but not two couples. It is all on the ground floor, ideal for those who can't use the stairs. There is free Wifi, a large flat screen TV and all mod cons. Dylan Thomas wrote 'Portrait of an Artist as a young dog' whilst living here and Richard Hughes lived and wrote here for 20yrs. It is right in the centre of the Township so within easy walking distance of bars and eateries. The world famous boat house and writing shed are a short walk away. The splendid Laugharne Castle is right next door and can be viewed from the hall.
Laugharne itself is a lovely township and tourist attraction. There is a stunning estuary with a wide variety of birds for bird watchers. There is the World famous Dylan Thomas boat house and writing shed. There is a fantastic castle next door. There are lovely places to eat, have a drink and relax. A perfect place to retreat and take a step back from the world.

The former restaurant of renowned chef and gardener Nick Priestland which has also featured in the BAFTA award winning drama BBC's Keeping Faith! Hidden from the main street in Laugharne, behind its exotically landscaped grounds, is The Cors, a very special country house. Converted from an exquisite Victorian house, we have brought this building to life and created a charming blend of period pieces and modernist artworks. A bohemian bolt hole, one of the best - the 2-acre garden is a perfect retreat in the summer months. The artistic sensibility is visible in everything we do from the drama of the gardens to the quirky decoration of the house. Bedrooms: There are three double rooms with en-suite, modern bathrooms with walk-in showers, and a corner bath in one of the rooms. There is also a newly refurbed king bedroom (January 2020) and twin bedroom in the loft which has the use of the main bathroom on the 1st floor. All bedrooms (apart from the king) also are equipped with large smart TV's with Sky/ Netflix, free Wi-Fi. All rooms reflect the elegant ‘shabby-chic’ style of the Cors Country House with with stunning garden views. Living spaces: The Cors offers three large living areas where you can relax and unwind, listen to music on our smart multi-room Sonos speaker system, play with a range of board games, shoot some pool or watch a film in the newly appointed cinema room, again with Sky & Netflix on our 60inch TV with games console. If that doesn't interest you can always become a bartender for the evening and serve cocktails and drinks from behind the old bar. The lovely sun room offers a beautiful outlook of the gardens, ideal for relaxing with a book, or having some breakfast on the bistro table. Kitchen: The large well stocked kitchen caters for your every need. With a newly installed oven and induction hob, and modern appliances with the traditional surroundings, what more could you want. There is comfortable dining for 10 people. Utility Room: A large space ideal for shoes, wellies, coats and empty luggage, housing the washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher. Also access to back staircase, and fire escape route. Garden: Translated from Welsh The Cors means bog, which is what Nick Priestland had to work with when he created his beautiful landscaped garden set in a wooded valley bordering the Corran river. Consisting of approximately 2 and half acres, this well designed large bog garden has ponds, gunnera, bamboos and tree-ferns. It is an exceptional, elegant and artistic garden with unusual architectural and exotic planting, dotted with sculptures. The garden is a perfect retreat for a sunny day, there is a range of seating available to chill out and soak up some sun or even have a BBQ. Please be aware of the open ponds and river to the side of grounds as there are no railings. Carpark: The large private carpark has enough space for at-least 8 cars. Don’t miss Laugharne for all things Dylan Thomas, plus the beautiful estuary and castle.
Discover the magic of Laugharne in Carmarthenshire.......Laugharne is perhaps best known for its associations with Wales' most famous poet, Dylan Thomas, however, there is much more to Laugharne than just Dylan Thomas. Laugharne is a small town sitting on the estuary of the Taf River and offers stunning estuary walks, including the infamous Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk. There are also plenty of woodland walks and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path starts nearby. It is an ancient town steeped in history, and a popular tourist destination with many great attractions in the area. With its easy accessibility to the M4, and prime location, also makes it a great base to visit Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The Boathouse, where Dylan and Caitlin lived with their children is now a heritage centre. Overlooking the estuary are the dramatic ruins of a Norman Castle, a popular visitor attraction. Laugharne is a charming sleepy town with a mixture of large Georgian houses and pretty small cottages, set amongst a good choice of cafes and restaurants, including the well known Browns Hotel. There are also a good choice of outdoor activities available in the area, ranging from horse riding, coasteering, to a variety of water sports, abseiling, orienteering, caving and gorge walking. There are many beautiful rugged beaches in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, along with the more popular coastal resorts of Pendine, Saundersfoot and Tenby. There is an abundance of interesting attractions locally, including Castles, historic houses and National Botanical Gardens to name a few. For the younger generation we are a short drive away from the likes of Folly Farm, Oakwood, Manor House Wildlife Park, Heatherton World of Activities and Dinosaur Park to name a few. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all.
  • Had a great weekend at Jac’s place. Two families together ranging from age 7- 74. The house is lovely and spacious so plenty of room to cater for everyone. We had some rain, it didn’t matter though, whilst some were playing pool in the games room, others were playing board games in the dining room, which left the cinema room for playing on the Nintendo switch or watching tv. We made the most of the dry weather and had a couple walks into Laugharne. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The garden is huge and would be wonderful during summer I’m sure.

  • Full of character with lovely bedrooms and we'll equipped kitchen.

    Claire2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jac was really accommodating and we loved spending our Christmas at the Cors!

    Garreth2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible place The Cors is! Beautiful setting and amazing character throughout. A very well-equipped kitchen and games room kept us busy through the Welsh rain. Being pet-friendly it was ideal for our collie, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the comfort the house provides. The WiFi was a little weak in the cinema room but really not a concern when you have Sonos throughout the ground floor. Excellent communication made for a seamless check-in/out experience. Overall a perfect long weekend!

    Matthew2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at the Cors, the location was beautiful and very secluded. The house inside was stunning and absolutely spotless, and the kids found it all very exciting. Jac was a great host and was quick to respond to any questions I had, and we will definitely return in the future. I would highly recommend The Cors to anyone looking for somewhere to stay with a large group!

    Damon2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this place last minute and we wasn’t disappointed, upon arrival down the driveway we was amazed. The house impressed us in many ways, quirky, stylish, comfortable, homely, different but most of all very enjoyable. The host kept in contact with us throughout our stay, great rooms for entertaining, including the bar area. We enjoyed our short break immensely. Thank you very much

    Milo2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful characterful house, with a gorgeous garden. The situation is very peaceful but shops and restaurants/pubs are in easy walking distance. Very well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. Plenty of room for a family party and a small dog (who spent a lot of time on the very welcome dog bed - much bigger than his at home!). We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.

Also if you like Indian there is a fantastic take away in St Clears, The Bombay Spice. We have used this for the last 14 years since in first opened at the same time we bought the cottage, and it is still as good now as when it first opened. Also there is a Local Convenience Store, Select on the Grist and in King Street there is a small Pharmacy with Post Office. And just off King Street is The Victoria Bakery. So plenty for everyone.

  • This is a lovely little cottage in a stunning area. Very quiet and cosy. Everything you need is provided. It was spotlessly clean and I have nothing negative to say, other than the bed was a little smaller than I am used to. I’m not sure if it was a double or queen size, but still very comfortable.

  • This is a beautiful house in the centre of laugharne, just a minute's walk from the castle, shops and restaurants. Chandler's cottage has been beautifully renovated and furnished, is spotlessly clean and has everything you'll need. Paul was very accommodating and fitted us in last minute. We were a party of 8 and had plenty of space. We had three cars and parking was no problem. Highly recommended.

  • A lovely house in a beautiful village. Perfect venue for friends and family. The hot tub was a real bonus. One of the very best equipped kitchens which was great as we all love to cook.

  • A beautifully restored cottage in the heart of Laugharne - just 5 minutes walk from the river, castle and Dylan Thomas' Boathouse. Tastefully decorated, great facilities with everything provided to ensure a perfect family break. We had a lovely few days - thank you.

    Caroline2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We chose the cottage as saw excellent previous reviews, and the living space suited our needs. The cottage was as expected, beautifully decorated and fitted out. The kitchen had every utensil and pot and pan you could think of, amazing appliances which helped including a dishwasher - a novelty for us! A lovely welcome pack of fresh produce was provided which was a nice touch. Lots of towels and gowns provided which is good as these tend to take the most space when packing. The hosts were very quick to respond to a few minor questions I had, but must add the welcome pack folder provided by the hosts is very detailed, and useful if you are not familiar with the locality. Each room down stairs had character, even down to the lovely smells from diffusers, wish I had taken note of them now. Lots of Board games, playing cards, books and DVDs provided. I suppose if giving a completely constructive review and it is only a minor thing but a larger TV in front room would have been nice, but didn't really detract from the whole experience, a first world problem if you like.

    Andrew2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying here. The house was immaculate when we arrived. Walking distance (literally moments) to the centre of the village, a castle and the holiday home of Dylan Thomas. The whole house is beautifully furnished. They've left two big books answering all your questions about the house and surrounding information. My children adored the hot tub. We were in it every day. The whole coast line down there is just beautiful. I'd highly recommend a trip to Tenby and Manorbier. Also, you must try the fish and chips in the village. Borderline addictively delicious!! Thanks for having us xx

    Michelle2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house, very clean and well presented, with everything you could need. Very close to coast path, castle and coffee and cake at the deli. Fronts on to a not very busy main road, back dining and garden space small, but neither an issue with the comforts of the house and plenty to do around and about.

    Matt2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and well appointed, Chandlers Cottage is a home from home with so many homely touches. The hot tub and tranquil setting really does make for a relaxing break.

  • This place is a must in the AirBnB portfolio. Nestled in the wonderful area of Pembroke it is easy to see how Dylan Thomas found inspiration for his work. The house was immaculate and appointed in a style thoroughly in keeping with its period character. Lovely thick walls and wide entrance ways with staircases befitting a country mansion. Lovely open plan kitchen with a ‘snug’ next to a family dining area with comfortable chairs where one can snooze or watch a movie after a long walk along the estuary. The next three floors each in themselves offered a voyage of discovery with high vaulted ceilings and en-suites sizeable enough to host dinner parties. Roll top baths and period decor and walls adorned with artwork and photographs make this a place where one can immerse themselves and while away the hours in splendour. The first floor has a formal dining room and two drawing rooms, well stocked libraries to suit all tastes. Bedrooms are spacious and the most comfortable beds. The top floor is a loft conversion with a billiard table and a self contained kitchen. All in all this is a gem of a find and we were well looked after by our host. It was an absolute pleasure to stay here and we will return - no question. Highly recommended.

Michele was always on hand if needed and even checked in a few times via text. The whole property was spotless and well loved, we even had a little welcome treat which went down very well! Looking forward to staying again very soon!

  • We had a lovely week here. It is a genuinely stunning cottage and everything inside is of the highest standard and quality - just as the description suggests. It is luxurious and 5 star. It is also very quiet and peaceful (the heart of the Welsh countryside!), though we were woken up by cows on a couple of mornings! Location is excellent for Pendine (beautiful long and sandy beach) and Laugharne (quaint town with castle), each a 5 minute drive away. However, the heart of Pembrokeshire (Tenby, Saundersfoot etc) is a good 25-35 min drive away and so a car is essential. We had a few issues with the TVs but I'm sure it will be sorted for future guests. Overall we would highly recommend this cottage.

  • A brilliant place to stay, superbly quiet but just a short drive into Laugharne and a great base for exploring the rest of Carmarthenshire. Really well appointed home and perfect for four adults and two kids. Really made our holiday.

Longlane House is in a very quiet rural location surrounded by fields. Eight minutes walk down the beautiful Longlane and into The Township of Laugharne. The Sea and Taf Estuary. Ideal for birders. The Castle, Pubs and Restaurants. There are 6 wonderful walks from this house. I can put up a "Z" bed for a child in your room. My bedrooms are named after the 6 elements in Dylan Thomas's Prologue. "Quill", "Chirrup", Fruit", "Fin", "Flute", bathroom is "Froth". Continental breakfast and tea tray.
Beautiful location in the countryside. Surrounded by fields of sheep and horses. Dog friendly. Next to the graveyard in St. Martin's Church where the poet Dylan Thomas is buried.
There is nothing here at all surrounding this house. Very quiet no traffic noise.
  • Thank you we enjoyed our stay and meeting you. Very nice house with very fresh well water and we liked the Dylan Thomas memorabilia. Cleanliness was more or less ok. Laugharne is a lovely getaway and very laid back

Centrally located to Laugharne, this house is very spacious with everything you need to enjoy a stay in this part of beautiful Wales.
The house is split on three levels giving lots of space for friends and family to enjoy their time together. Downstairs you have a large living room and kitchen joined by double doors so you can open the space up or keep the kitchen separate. The kitchen hosts a large table for meals and leads out on to a tiered garden.
Laugharne is very picturesque next to an estuary overlooked by a substantial castle ruin with plenty of references to the Welsh Poet Dylan Thomas about. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Laugharne itself and a small Spar and the local chemist that stock things a household needs. A larger Co-Op supermarket and other shops can be found down the road in St Clears. Pubs, restaurants, cafes, fish and chip shop and the local Ferryman Deli means there is always somewhere to grab a bite or a cup of tea and ice cream.
  • Spacious house nicely set out. Bigger than it looked and well equipped. Jenny quick to respond to any questions. Would definitely recommend.

  • A great property to stay to explore such a lovely area, very spacious house ideal for large family groups to stay.

  • A great house in a lovely location. A perfect base for a range of dog walks, and to travel further afield to Tenby.

  • Great house. Good space for 2 families. Excellent location. Great communication. Lovely part of the world. Our kids loved the house and local area as well. There is a nice little park nearby in the village. I'd have no hesitation in booking this place again.

  • Lovely house with plenty of room for 7 people. Great location (pub either side!) in a lovely village.

  • We had a great stay at Jenny's house, 7 of us were there to celebrate an 80th birthday. Plenty of room for all, 3 bathrooms was a luxury. The area is outstanding and we would hope to return another time.

    Jackie2018-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fab stay in this lovely house. Very spacious with more than enough room for our family of 5. Everything you need is in place (including children's toys, a highchair, children's cutlery and crockery and a travel cot along with some books and games for the young at heart too). I found the beds to be very comfy. A bottle of wine was left for our arrival which was a very thoughtful touch. Laugharne itself is small but has a convenience store and a few pubs and restaurants. A trip to Laugharne castle and a walk around to Dylan Thomas' boathouse are not to be missed, they are simply beautiful and very tranquil looking out over the water. During our stay we also visited Tenby a couple of times which was stunning and Saundersfoot which has a bit more of a seaside feel. Amroth, with its lovely beach is also worth a quick trip. The whole area is beautiful and make a wonderful break away. I would highly recommend a stay at Jenny's house.

With acres of rolling hills and a panoramic uninterrupted coastal views of Laugharne and Caldey Island, Fferm Heol Down Farm was previously an ancient hamlet and is set in peaceful surroundings where you can get back to nature and enjoy slow paced village life. The Den is a luxury self-contained annex, situated in an original part of the farmhouse at Fferm Heol Down Farm.
Contemporary yet full of character, this spacious ground floor cottage has exposed stone walls, wooden beams, complimentary wifi, fully fitted kitchen and a wood burning fire. The Den also has its own entrance, parking and garden for individuals and couples who want complete isolation from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! From the rear of the property, you can enjoy superb, panoramic far-reaching views of the countryside and in particular landmarks such as Caldey Island and the infamous Dylan Thomas' Boathouse in Laugharne.
At night, the rural location of The Den makes it an ideal location to stargaze and admire the pretty far away lights of Laugharne Town reflecting off the estuary water. The all year round, dog friendly Llansteffan Beach is just a 20 minute walk/5 minute drive, so you can easily enjoy long walks or relax with local fish and chips on the beach. The Wales Coastal Path can be accessed from Llansteffan Beach or within a 15 minute walk from The Den. This cottage is ideal for keen walkers and those who enjoy exploring the outdoors with their four legged friends. For those who want to eat out, the nearest pub/restaurant is a 5 minute walk from the cottage and specialises in authentic Thai cuisine. The village of Llansteffan hosts more pub/restuarants and has a few cafe's, local village shop and two art galleries. Situated in Carmarthen, the heart of West Wales, The Den has an ideal central location to explore the whole of South West Wales including Pembrokeshire and the Gower Peninsula.
  • This is a gem of a place with outstanding host. The log burner on a winter's night was a lovely. feature and a toasty duvet at night. The views from the back door are across the river estuary to Laugharne. I had. a very good lunch the Inn of the Sticks just 3 or 4 miles. away in Llansteffan.

  • Our thanks to Sian and Matt for their wonderful hospitality and what a fantastic place Y Den is. Great views and close to lots of interesting sights and beaches. We will definitely be back and our labradors loved it too! Paula and Andy K

  • You can expect a warm welcome a lovely self contained Den with everything you could need for your stay. The log burner was amazing and certainly cosy. We all loved it. A credit to Sian the owner who has done a brilliant job both in the presentation and on going management. We can't wait to come back. Worth more than 5 stars. A little hidden gem 😊

  • Gorgeous little place fitted out beautifully with charm and practicality in mind. Welcomed by home made Victoria sponge and Welsh Cakes, and beautiful Christmas decorations. The log burner was set up for us ready to go and everything was clean and tidy. The view from the fenced garden (secure for any dog owners) was spectacular over the estuary. Llansteffan beach and castle is really close and a great walk. A nice quiet retreat for a countryside get away with lovely walks nearby. I would 100% recommend staying here.

Ideal for large family getaways, with the additional benefit of the ground floor ensuite bedroom annexe for the less able bodied. A period Grade II listed detached house we understand dates back to the mid 19th Century is well known for being Dylan Thomas's former home. Dylan lived in 3 locations around Laugharne and moved to Sea View, with Caitlin, who was pregnant at the time, in 1938, and is quoted in saying that the 2 years they spent there was 'the happiest period of our lives together'. Here they entertained a host of personalities including the writer TS Elliott and the painter Augustus John who memorably described it as a 'doll's house'. Years after living in Sea View he returned to Laugharne to take up residence at the Boat House.

Lovely large private Georgian home and garden on the River Tâf estuary in Laugharne. All four double bedrooms have fantastic views. A few minutes walk to the township centre with pubs and restaurants. A continental breakfast included however a full cooked breakfast can be arranged. Dog Friendly. This listing is for four bedrooms / eight people however I also rent out individual rooms.
Strand house is a pretty special place. Whether you are a large group or on your own, I (john) love to have guests to stay. I work from my studio and edit suites at the back of the property. Make yourselves completely at home. Relax in the garden overlooking the estuary, hire one of my Kayaks to explore the estuary or just take a stroll along the two-mile Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk... the setting for one of his best loved works, Poem in October. I'm also happy to cater should you want to spend the evening in.
A FEW ACTIVITIES Dylan Thomas Boathouse (and tearoom) Dylan Thomas, his wife Caitlin and their three children lived in this cliff-clinging house from 1949 to 1953. It's a beautiful setting, looking out over the estuary that Thomas, in his Poem in October, described as the 'heron-priested shore'. The parlour has been restored to its 1950s appearance, with a desk that once belonged to Thomas' schoolmaster father. Upstairs are photographs, letters, a video about his life, and his death mask, which once belonged to Richard Burton. Along the lane from the Boathouse is the old shed where Thomas did most of his writing. LAUGHARNE… A BRIEF HISTORY Welcome to Laugharne, the last resting place of Dylan Thomas, the inspiration for Under Milk Wood and, in the poet’s words, a “timeless, mild, beguiling island of a town”. For centuries it remained a sleepy, largely forgotten outpost on the coast until, in 1934, a 19-year-old Dylan Thomas first visited. He fell in love with the place, living here on and off between 1938 and 1949. That year he moved to Laugharne permanently and into his last home, the old Boathouse overlooking the estuary (“my sea-shaken house / On a breakneck of rocks”). After he died he was interred in St Martin’s churchyard, his grave marked by a simple white cross. Today, Laugharne is an essential visit for any fan of Dylan Thomas – or anyone who adores tranquil, unspoilt seascapes. Laugharne has always had a timeless quality. Stand on the foreshore and look out across the estuary. See the heron, the egrets and the curlews; a place for birdwatchers, anglers and walkers, as well as those who want to simply gaze across the water at Sir John’s Hill and Llanybri; then further on to the mouth of the Towy and the silken beach at Cefn Sidan; then further still to the mysterious headlands of the Gower Peninsula. This is an astonishing and ancient view, one that has captivated artists and writers for generations. Everyone knows about Dylan Thomas, but did you know that Coleridge wrote about Laugharne? As did the great WW1 poet, Edward Thomas, who lived briefly on Victoria Street, just up from the Inn. Richard Hughes lived and wrote at Castle House. Kingsley Amis wrote The Old Devils here. Turner painted its magical coastline. And even today fascinating characters are still drawn to the township by the annual Laugharne Weekend – a literature and music festival held every April – where recent performers have included Patti Smith, Graeme Garden and Cerys Matthews.
  • John's place is absolutely fantastic. Such a beautiful view of the estuary from all of the rooms that face out across the front of the property, which is spacious and homely and accommodated all nine of our party for NYE! There's also plenty of local heritage to enjoy while you're there, including the Dylan Thomas walk around Laugharne - perfect for clearing the head on new year's day! John himself is very friendly and warm, and always happy to sit down and have a chat, with many interesting stories of his own! We feel very lucky to have met him through Airbnb and hope to return very soon!

John is a great host full of stories to tell, generous and an interesting person to spend a weekend with. We had all the rooms booked and felt like if we stayed at a friend's house. John also managed to sort out a last minute request for a bbq thanks to the many people he knows. We will certainly return at some point.

The beauty of the area was highlighted recently in the BBC TV drama "Keeping Faith". It’s the perfect place to get away from it all.
  • What a fantastic trip. A lovely large bungalow with everything you could ever need for a relaxing family vacation. Well equipped kitchen with a large dining table for board games and meals. Lovely living room with blu ray and comfy sofas and chairs. Lots of space for 2 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 children and a dog with more to sapre. Lovely personal touches by the hosts Jac and Michelle, the Welsh cakes and wine were a lovely touch as was the help with directions. Highly recommended.

  • We stayed at both this property and the adjoining annexe. We were a group of 8 and there was ample room for everyone. It felt very spacious. The gardens were lovely and the area very peaceful. The property themselves were nice. The towels could do with changing though as they looked quite worn out and left pieces stuck to you. The en-suite toilet in main building wasn’t very secure and the en-suite shower in annexe blocked but the owners were brilliant in getting back to us with any problems we had. Definitely recommend them and the properties. Lots in the area to do. We visited Pendine beach which was nice as well as Tenby. Pembrokeshire coast was really beautiful. The children enjoyed Blue lagoon water park which was 30 mins away as well as Oakwood Theme Park. We would most definitely return. The hosts were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

  • Excellent bungalow, very cosy and well equipped. Dog friendly with fairly secure back garden. Michelle and Helen, the owner were very helpful and suggested good places to eat and visit. Had a delicious dinner at Brown’s Hotel and brilliant fish and chips from the wonderful woman in the local fish and chip shop in Laugharne. A really lovely holiday, thank you.

Breakfast included. Dog Friendly. This listing is for two double bedrooms / 4 people however a further two bedrooms are available. We've had great reviews on our other listing for four bedrooms / eight people but as yet not had less than seven guests to stay... hence no reviews on this particular listing!
Strand house is a pretty special place. Whether you are a large group or on your own, I (john) love to have guests to stay. I work from my studio and edit suites at the back of the property. Make yourselves completely at home. Watch a movie in my comfortable studio on a large cinema screen, relax in the garden overlooking the estuary, hire one of my Kayaks to explore the estuary or just take a stroll along the two-mile Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk... the setting for one of his best loved works, Poem in October.
It looks as if he has just popped out, with screwed-up pieces of paper littered around the sea-facing table where he wrote Under Milk Wood and poems such as Over Sir John's Hill (which describes the view).
  • Amazing - a hidden gem in the most perfect location in Laugharne. The house is stunning, with loads of space and character. It's fabulously equiped and the beds are sooo comfy! After a day exploring Laugharne on foot, it was so gorgeous to return 'home' to the cosy lounge with a beautifully warm fire to defrost! 10/10 stay! Thank you John for being such a thoughtful and conciderate host and sharing your home, we will definitely be returning.

  • John’s home is warm, welcoming and has perfect views across the estuary. His breakfasts are generous and tasty and both he and his canine companion are charming company.

  • Fantastic, you will not find a more welcoming, well positioned or delightful place to stay in Laugharne. John is friendly, a great cook and has a beautiful house full of character. The views are other worldly and the location could not be more central. There’s parking, gardens and a lovely dog called Sunny. The house is interesting, very clean and the beds are very comfortable. The cooked breakfast sets you up well for a day exploring this magical town. Book ! & enjoy...

  • We had a wonderful few days in Laugharne with John. John is a great host and helped with every aspect of our stay, giving us local advice and a map and booking a meal for us. He also let us use his dinghy for paddling around the bay. His breakfast is very delicious, especially the smoothies! I always choose dog friendly places so we can bring the dog and everything was very nice also for our dog Isla who gives John the thumbs up. Great location as the walks, castle, Dylan Thomas boathouse and town are all on the doorstep.
