  • I was sceptical at first when I booked but these pods really are amazing and so is the place! So so clean and warm, not cold at all and we didn’t even use the heater! I would really recommend this place and we will be back for sure! Nice welcome but very private.

  • Me and my sister had the best weekend get away! The pod is amazing! And the value for money here is incredible! The shower and toilet was always clean and the shower was lovely! We was surprised but just how amazing this was. If you’re debating booking this place just DO IT! You won’t regret it.

  • If there’s one or two of you looking for somewhere to stay, I definitely recommend the pod. I’m not a camper so this place is a great compromise. The pod has everything you need including lots of power points, dimmer lights, a mirror, coat hooks. So many extras that make your stay easier. I look forward to staying here in the future 😊

Retreat into nature in Owl Tree Temple, the perfect space for two amongst the trees. Here at West Lexham we have 6 Treehouses and 7 Glamping Bell Tents, all residing in 21 acres of beautiful nature and wildlife. To see all of our properties, please search for our .org website. In Owl Tree Temple you’ll find a delightfully comfortable double bed complete with colourful blankets and plenty of fairy twinkling lights. You’ll be surrounded by splashes of colour and rustic furniture collected from distant travels or reclaimed and hand built by local carpenters - it’s a magical woodland sanctuary to unwind and relax. By nightfall you can cosy up with the log burning stove (we’ve provided plenty of wood!) and enjoy a deep and restful sleep, drifting off to the sounds of the forest. For colder nights, Owl has renewably-powered central heating, making it delightfully welcoming throughout the year. Pathways through the surrounding woodland are lit by night • Please note the pool is closed throughout the winter as it is an outdoor pool. Usually we reopen this April - October Owl has its own ensuite bathroom with a steaming hot shower, with bath towels and organic hand soap and shampoo provided. There is also a small table with 2 chairs and a kitchenette complete with kettle, toaster, fridge, tea, coffee and a cool box. Outside your tree temple you’ll find tables and chairs along with your own gas-powered BBQ. For cooking larger feasts, head over to the fully-equipped, communal Garden Kitchen (Oven, hob, freezer, pots, utensils etc.). Here you’ll also find the wood-fired pizza oven and the nearby communal fire bowl. There’s so much to see and do here at West Lexham. We have a heated outdoor pool from May to October, with many guests choosing a refreshing wild swim in the lake the whole year round. There are also 2 rowing boats for you to take on the water along with a tennis court with views across the lake. Litcham is in the Launditch hundred of the Breckland district of Norfolk, England. It is almost equidistant from three major market towns: East Dereham, Fakenham and Swaffham. Litcham sits along the Litcham to Gressenhall Nar Valley Way Heritage Trail. This section of the Nar Valley way starts in Litcham and ends in Gressenhall. The Heritage Trail takes in the following points of interest you will notice point 3 is the White House ! 1. Priory Farmhouse - NHER 4072 Priory Farmhouse contains the remains of a 14th century religious building. It may have been a chapel, although in 1410 it was called a hermitage. In the 16th century the religious building was converted into a house and it has been altered and extended on many occasions since. To the northwest of the farmhouse are the remains of a moated site. Much of the moat survives as earthworks, although most of the south and east sides have been infilled. Medieval walls, pottery and a large feature, possibly the south side of the moat, have been found during building work. Houses now stand within the moat. The 17th century and later Priory Barn (now a house) is to the north of the farmhouse and to the east of the moat. 2. Site of the village stocks – NHER 11294 Opposite Priory Farm is the site of the village stocks. 3. The White House - NHER 44322 The White House, Church Street dates from the 18th century and was once a shop. It is built of rendered brick and has a former shop window with a simple entablature and pilasters. 4. Medieval moat - NHER 15535 The cropmarks and slight earthworks of a medieval moat and a medieval to post medieval trackway have been identified from aerial photographs in the field to the east of Drury Lane. A Neolithic flint scraper and medieval and post medieval coins and pottery have been found on the site. 5. Bronze Age ring ditches – NHER 17656 In the field next to the footpath aerial photography has revealed the cropmarks of three ring ditches. When the area was visited, two of the three ring ditches were visible as low mounds and prehistoric flint tools were found on one of those. 6. Greynston Manor – NHER 13536 The footpath runs next to Lounds Wood, which is the site of the moated medieval manor of Greynston that is mentioned in documents dating back to the 13th century. 7. Deserted medieval village of Grenstein – NHER 7225 The footpath runs through the site of the deserted medieval village of Grenstein, which was in existence from the 11th century. The village grew up around a green known as Dowes Green or Woodmere Green, and had been deserted by the 16th century. The earthworks of the village were ploughed in 1959, but the village street and the outline of the houses are clearly visible on aerial photographs. To the east of the village site is the site of another medieval manor known as Caley’s Manor. One of the village houses, or tofts, was excavated in the 1960s, revealing a medieval to post medieval farmstead, with a house and a large flint-surfaced farmyard with farm buildings. The buildings were built of clay lump, a technique that was still in use in Norfolk in the late 19th century. Fragments of medieval and post medieval pottery and animal bones have been found on the site. 8. Telephone box – NHER 44611 As you walk down Back Lane you will see a traditional telephone box with a domed roof. This type of telephone box, the K6, was designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. 9. Mileham Castle – NHER 7230 (accessible to the public) Straddling the B1145, a pre-Conquest road that remained the main east-west route through the county until the 17th century, this is the largest motte and bailey castle in Norfolk. It was constructed in about 1100 and its remains form a surprisingly imposing monument consisting of a motte built up around the fragments of a stone keep, two baileys and a further banked rectangular enclosure to the north of the road, which now contains Burwood Hall (built in 1793) and farm buildings. A large wooded deer park was once attached to the south of the castle. The positioning of the castle astride the road is thought to have been connected with raising revenue from a possible market place in the northern enclosure and from tolls on travellers. It is probable that the castle had fallen out of use by about 1300, but before then the tall keep, probably whitewashed, when seen against the green wooded backdrop of the deer park, would have been an impressive sight. View of the earthworks of the deserted medieval village taken from near Dairy Farm. The earthworks of the deserted medieval village of Little Bittering. (© NCC) 10. Deserted medieval village of Little Bittering– NHER 7266 (accessible to the public) The site of the medieval village of Little Bittering is visible as earthworks. These include at least one moat, a row of village properties (tofts), drainage ditches and possible ridge and furrow. Excavations and fieldwork have uncovered evidence of a prehistoric burnt mound (pot boilers), prehistoric flint artefacts, part of a lava quern stone and prehistoric, Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery. View of SS Peter and Paul's Church from the western end. SS Peter and Paul's Church, Bittering. (© NCC) 11. SS Peter and Paul's Church, Little Bittering – NHER 7267 (accessible to the public) A 12th and 13th century church, with a 17th century bell tower and buttresses. Inside there is a late medieval rood screen. By 1954 the church was derelict but it has been restored since. The building stands in an isolated position amongst the deserted medieval village of Little Bittering. View of the Fen Causeway Roman road taken in Beeston with Bittering. The Roman road known as the Fen Causeway. (© NCC) 12. Fen Causeway - NHER 2976 Stony Lane runs along the course of the Fen Causeway, which is the name given to the Roman road that runs from a junction with Ermine Street and King Street near Peterborough across the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk fens. In a number of places the road is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, whilst in several places it survives as a landscape feature. Sections of the road have been excavated on a number of occasions, revealing a cambered metalled surface and side ditches. 13. Methodist chapel – NHER 14160 Methodist Chapel and Chapel Cottage on Bilney Road is a 17th century timber framed cottage, with an early 19th century clay lump and brick chapel. The chapel was originally built as a school, before becoming a Methodist chapel in the 1920s. 14. Site of Great Bittering mill – NHER 20064 This is the site of a Great Bittering Mill, a smock mill that was sold in 1837. The mill is recorded until the late 19th century. The east wing of the workhouse. The 18th century former workhouse in Gressenhall. This wing is now the offices of Norfolk Historic Environment Service. (© NCC) 15. Gressenhall workhouse – NHER 2819 (accessible to the public) The walk ends near Gressenhall Workhouse. The workhouse was built in 1777, one of the earliest 'Houses of Industry' in Norfolk. The main block and the east wing date from the 18th century, whilst the chapel, boundary wall and other buildings within the complex date from the 19th century. The building was in use as a workhouse until 1948, when it became an old people's home. The building is now a museum and the offices of Norfolk Landscape Archaeology. 16. Gressenhall farm – NHER 2822 (accessible to the public) This is the site of the medieval chapel and college of St Nicholas, founded in the 13th century. The chapel held the manor of Rougholme, and the chapel and the manorial buildings fell into ruins by the 18th century. The barn contains some blocks of reused medieval masonry. The present farmhouse may date back to the late 18th century, when the workhouse infirmary stood on the site. An evaluation carried out by the NAU in 1999 revealed medieval ditches and pits, probably part of a field system, as well as medieval pottery. Sarah Spooner (NLA), Spring 2006. Gamekeeper’s Lodge is a romantic fairytale luxury cottage for four in South Raynham, just a 20 minute drive to the coast. In their tender and sympathetic restoration, the owners have picked beautiful artwork and fabrics to offset the Farrow and Ball walls, which give this gorgeous English country cottage a sprinkle of magic. Situated in the village of Raynham, a mile south of East Raynham, the ancient family seat of Turnip Townsend, this beautiful Grade II listed property retains much of its original character, including wooden shutters, Norfolk pamment stone floors and stripped floor boards. Decorated in muted greys, lavenders and greens throughout it offers a relaxed and stylish place to stay. A long soak in one of the two roll-top baths and then a good night's sleep in one of the sumptuous beds with their 2000 sprung mattresses and 800 thread count linens, will make for a divine end to the day. • Lovely self-contained accommodation not far from the north Norfolk coast and with Fakenham close by. Dual aspect sitting room and bedroom with views onto garden (and very comfortable bed!). Access to garden must be wonderful for the summer months. Very peaceful stay in Dawn’s beautifully decorated annex. Many thanks!

    Fiona2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Dawn's cottage. It was so peaceful - tucked away in a tiny village in Norfolk, with all of the calm and quiet that we wanted. You can visit the Broads, Norwich or the coast, but there's as much pleasure in just staying there to unwind. The space is perfect for two - a thoughtfully decorated living room and bedroom, and a bathroom and kitchenette with a microwave oven. It had all the essentials and was spotlessly clean. Treat yourself and escape to rural Norfolk next time you have a week off - you won't regret a stay in Dawn's charming, cosy home.

  • We loved our stay at Dawn’s lovely cottage, it’s located in a quiet little village but close to some lovely pubs and interesting villages and towns. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Shame that we didn’t get to met Dawn.

  • Perfect 10/10. Christine and Matthew went the extra mile, driving us to the wedding we were going to band giving us an amazing cooked breakfast in the morning. I have used Airbnb quite a few times, but Christine and Matthew were the most friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts I’ve ever met. We would 100% recommend staying here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home.

  • Christine & Matthew are a lovely couple who made us feel so welcome in their beautiful home. Very comfortable bedroom & en-suite facilities. Christine made us an amazing full English breakfast which my husband enjoyed both morning’s! We enjoyed a meal at the pub in the village ‘The Bull’. We wouldn’t hesitate to rebook at Southerly Cottage.

    Deborah2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The room was absolutely spotless, the hosts were excellent from the moment we arrived, booked us in for dinner at the local pub which we would definitely recommend as well. Would definitely go back again in the future!

Use of the outdoor facilities (fire pit, fishing lake) must be booked in advance to ensure availability for a nominal fee. Guests are welcome to use the indoor swimming pool at £10.00 per session for two guests, however this must be booked in advance as we have members and residents who use the pool regularly. If you are looking to holiday with your furry friend, 1 well behaved dog is permitted to stay in the Shed&Breakfast with you by arrangement with us prior to arrival.
  • A unique trip and incredible experience! Both Julie and her husband were very welcoming and helpful, and also cooked a great breakfast. The shed was above my expectations with lots of (very warm) blankets and pillows for extra comfort. We used the pool and hot tub, followed by the fire pit - which is a must for anyone staying! Overall a great trip and a wonderful end to the summer.

  • A little peace of heaven in norfolk! Warm friendly staff, spotless rooms! Food amazing and excellent value for money!

    Tanya2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay could not have been any more perfect than it was. I booked this for my partners birthday and it was really special, such a lovely little place by the river. Julie and the other staff could not have been any more helpful and welcoming, everything we needed was there and anything else we just asked. Even a surprise cake after dinner! The food in the restaurant was amazing, and the pool/hottub was a really nice touch. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

    Melissa2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful little space, has almost all you could want and if there’s something you think of just ask and the amazingly helpful and conscientious staff will be more than happy to help. Would 100% recommend to anyone and would definitely stay again.

  • Set in the most beautiful grounds, you could be anywhere in the English countryside. The shed is adorably cute and cozy but due to an issue within ourselves and no fault of the shed itself, we moved into the hotel on our second night. The hotel room was beautiful with period features and with the comfiest beds! Breakfast was delicious and they were able to cater for my vegan friend too. All the staff were friendly and helpful. My personal highlight was our evening meal...wow!! Easily one of the best meals I've ever had. Would highly recommend staying here, thanks for having us!

    Emily2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the shed and breakfast was a pleasure, the views are incredible and we made good use of the amenities which included swimming pool with hot tub and sauna and a bbq area with fire pit, which was perfect for the summer evening! The staff on hand were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating making our stay a pleasure. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for something quiet and relaxing with plenty to do in the nearby areas.

    Luke2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Nice view over the lake. Cosy place tos stay. Take dressing gowns and flip flops to wear to walk to the bathroom, swimming costume if you choose to hire time in the indoor pool and hot tub, and take a disposable BBQ and equipment to cook dinner outdoors by the lake. Breakfast next morning was very good and staff always very friendly.

  • Absolutely amazing space! A perfect little getaway! The shed is so unique with forest surroundings and couldn't ask for better hospitality. Would 100% recommend to anyone!

  • Second time visiting these little gems in Norfolk! So quiet and tranquil, perfect if you want to “get off the grid” for a couple of days. Great location for us as we love visiting the north Norfolk coast. We had a slight issue with the shower but as soon as James was contacted he was on the case and sorted it out. A very nice visit! Only wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Great spot for a couple of days away from it all! So peaceful, very relaxing spot to take our baby and use as a convenient spot to explore the coast, but mainly just chill out in the evening. The hut had everything you need, was spotless and was beautifully presented. I’m sure we’ll be back!

    Edward2019-07-27T00:00:00Z

  • Valerie and her husband could not have been better hosts; nothing was too much trouble and they were full of interesting ideas and recommendations. The cottage is a delight; very well equipped and everything is high quality. The extras: fresh eggs from the local farm, homemade chutney, cake for us to have with our tea when we arrived, were all very much appreciated. We enjoyed local walks, a day in Norwich exploring the cobbled lanes, rounded off with one of the best meals I've ever had at the local pub. We loved Norfolk and will be back for a longer visit next time and will definitely stay in this charming cottage.

  • Cold and wet weather but dry and warm and cozy. Great fun for my 12 year old boy. Pub is friendly great food. Shower all new and clean. I am over six foot and could stretch out easy in bed.

  • We really enjoyed our nights stay. Our 7 yr old thought it was amazing and Ted our fox terrier thought it was great too. The hut is located in a secluded field by a pub. The hut was really clean, as were the loos and shower at the pub. The pub landlord was really helpful. We had a lovely evening playing games and had a tasty dinner in the pub. The breakfast was good too. We hope to return for another nights stay soon.

  • The Shepherd's hut was comfortable, and on the grounds of an excellent pub with great food and very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

  • Winnie (the hut) was very sweet. The inside was throughout and designed very well for a small area. Exceptionally clean and very peaceful. The toilet and shower was very clean and very spacious. Good in the pub Winnie is based on was great too.

    Gemma2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in Winnie and her being in a secluded paddock next door to a great pub was perfect. The pub shower and toilet facilities were great and just made staying in Winnie all the better. The bed in Winnie was very comfortable and our only concern was that we were both over 5.8" so stretching out was not possible but did not spoil our stay. Our weekend was very hot and the addition of a fan in the Hut was very welcome. Tea and coffee making facilities were great. Highly recommend visiting Castle Acre, a nearby medieval ruin and a great pub. Also in easy reach of the coast where we visited Brancaster, Blakeney and Wells and spent a lovely morning at Walsingham. Top spot.

    Emma2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • A real gem of a place - Winnie is so comfortable and unique, and I loved every minute of my stay. The bathroom in the pub was clean, modern and accessible, and everyone was friendly and helpful. I can also recommend getting meals from the pub, they're well worth it. It is such a homely space and I was very sad to leave, so I will definitely be back!

    Catherine2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with my hsband, grandson and dog, Winnie is clean and cosy with thoughtful touches- water, tea & coffee. Set in a great location very quiet and peaceful but next to a lovely pub with great food and amenities. Great value and would definetly stay here again!!

    Yvette2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very quirky little space but fantastic, we squeezed in with my wife 2 years old and a new born sleeping in a bassinet just enough room and very cosy and comfy, the cabin is in a wonderful little orchard behind a lovely pub, evening meal and breakfast were both very good and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend a short stay here to anyone after something a bit different especially on a budget

The bathroom is fitted with bath, shower, toilet and sink and includes a further selection of bathroom essentials. The property is oil centrally heated. A travel cot, high chair, baby bedside guard and stair gate can be provided on request. The property is equally well located for the big skies, the beautiful and expansive North Norfolk coast, for activity day trips to the fabulous Brecks and for exploring the city of Norwich.
This area of Norfolk is wonderful. The coast offers miles of beautiful, sandy shoreline, there are many cycle and walking routes, numerous excellent places to eat from pubs to restaurants, quirky country eateries, perfect picnic places, glorious National Trust sites and fabulous country houses to explore ... and of course, big skies to enjoy them all under.
  • Tim is a fantastic host with a spacious, comfortable, impeccably clean and well located property for exploring the beauty of the north Norfolk coast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Tim and would recommend it wholeheartedly to enjoy this wonderful part of East Anglia. Thanks!

The old chapel has been architect-designed and accommodates three in two bedrooms. The chapel has a modernist but quirky flair and is surrounded by a large garden. It sleeps three in two bedrooms, and is situated in a quiet village south of Fakenham.
The chapel has been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard and provides accommodation for two to three. There are no doors, so the space has an airy and light feel. The chapel was refurbished by an architect and its many features include a double-height main living cum dining room with a wood burner, a conservatory space leading to a south-facing patio. Original floor tiles on the groundfloor and built-in custom made cupboards and wardrobes give the upper floor a unique flair. The kitchen and bathroom are on the groundfloor, and are well-equipped, and the two bedrooms have a kingsize and a double bed respectively. The bathroom boasts a large power shower, the kitchen a fridge with a freezer cabinet, dishwasher, mircrowave and induction hob. The house is fully equipped to allow you to cook a special meal. Seating is provided in the dining-cum living room, which has a large refectory table, six chairs, a large three-seater sofa and freeview TV, auxiliary speaker, and windows to three sides. The garden is accessed from the house through a small conservatory with two leisure chairs. The garden is unusually generous for a chapel, and is south facing so you can enjoy meals on the patio in the sunshine. A rustic BBQ is provided. The chapel has electric heaters in all rooms, and a woodburner provides extra warmth and a nice focal point in the main room. Access to BT wifi is provided. Kitchen Large fridge with freezer drawer, dishwasher, induction hob, Neff oven, all equipment for a decent meal Bathroom Extra -large power shower Main bedroom King size double bed Small bedroom/study Double bed; study space with desk and chair Utility room Washing machine Main room Large refectory dining table with six chairs, large three-seater sofa, wood burner, free-view TV, a small conservatory space with two more leisure chairs Garden The garden is kept organic and comprises of a patio, chairs and table for three; fixed rustic BBQ; large lawn, pavilion, mature trees including fruit trees, flower border, views across fields with sheep and horses and wide skies. The village The hamlet of Wellingham is located between Swaffham and Fakenham and is very quiet. It has a wonderful church and eggs can be bought from the farm. Facilities like shop, post office, butcher, pub are available in the next larger village, Litcham, three miles away. There is wifi BT internet and a mainland phone line, aux speaker multiport. Bed linen and towels can be provided.
Wellingham is a small hamlet which is mentioned in the Doomsday book, and has not changed much. It has a wonderful 14th century church open to visitors from dawn to dusk which is famous for its painted wood screen dating back to the 1532. The next village with amenities including a shop/newsagent/postoffice/drycleaner, a butcher and a pub is Litcham, about ten minutes by car. A large array of independent shops, supermarkets, a small museum and restaurants can be found in Swaffham to the South and Fakenham to the North. The Norfolk champagne coast, the beaches in Holkham or Burnham Straithe, are only 35 minutes away, and the immediate surroundings are suited for rambling in the wonderful Nahr valley, enjoying walks or birdwatching in various nature reserves, or visits to the many nearby stately homes, including Holkham, Sandringham and Houghton House.
  • Dear Hendrick, Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your gorgeous Chapel; it was the perfect getaway! So much awe inspiring nature literally on the door step, how lucky we were. We had daily visits from a throng of birds, stocky muntjac’s grazing on the greenery, witnessed a frenzied boxing brown hare, a bold badger foraging by night, and even our walk along Snettisham beach created a Harbour porpoise encounter! Castle Rising and the market towns of Ely, Kings Lynn & Norwich were a delight, and it was lovely to soak up 5,000 years of human creativity at the Sainsbury Collection; what remarkable works of art. Thank you for the warm welcome, the wood burner set the scene perfectly and the gift of a delicious bottle of wine waiting for us after a blustery drive was very much appreciated. The gorgeous handmade Norfolk soap on the towels was a lovely touch, and the recommendation to dine at the Dabbling Duck, where I celebrated my birthday, turned out to be great choice for a veggie. Watching the stormy weather, with Cromer Pier taking a lashing from whipped-up waves was a dramatic farewell to Norfolk, after a great drive along the A149 coastal road from Hunstanton. Memories of salt marshes, pretty coastal villages, flint cottages, windmills and a divine refurbished chapel in Wellingham linger on – shame we had to return to work … Best wishes, Susannah and Tim

  • We had a great stay. Hendrik is an excellent host - always replies super fast and all the tips and info about the house and area are great - very helpful and clear. The space is completely lovely - calm and beautiful. The kitchen is excellent to cook in - fully equipped. Bed comfy. Shower nice and hot. The wood burner and wall heaters meant we were always warm. Tiny village - so quiet - just what we wanted - wonderful! We would definitely like to come back again - maybe in warmer weather to enjoy the lovely garden!

  • We found the old chapel to be just as lovely as the photos suggest. Plus, it's a proper home with fully equipped kitchen, including decent chopping knives; natural fabrics that aren't overperfumed with softener and sympathetic lighting in the living areas. Overall, practical, comfortable and quite delightful. A tranquil spot from which to explore the area.

Full of vintage charm and contemporary facilities, this cottage is the perfect country retreat. 5 can sleep here comfortably but it is an ideal bolt-hole for a couple or a family. Right in the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in Norfolk. Not by any means your average holiday cottage, the aim is solely to make you feel completely relaxed.
The cottage is Grade 2 listed as it forms part of a terrace attached to the Bailey Gate, the ancient entrance to the village. However, it has been recently completely renovated and modernised and features original beams, a large open fire, a heated travertine tiled floor to the kitchen and an awesome conservatory which opens onto a beautiful south-facing garden where you can sit in full sun on the deck or on the grass under the little apple tree. The main bedroom has a king-sized bed, a TV and an en-suite shower room, the second bedroom is really small but has a single bed which can be converted to a huge king, depending on your priority...daytime or night-time space! Downstairs there is a daybed sofa which serves as a single mattress for an extra person, if required. There is a lovely bathroom downstairs. (Please note that the staircase is typical for a cottage, narrow with very steep treads. An elderly person may struggle although naturally the day bed sofa is available, and there is a downstairs toilet) There's a larder, fully kitted out. Plenty of toys for children and plenty for adults too, come to think of it.
This village is extraordinary. It is on the Peddars Way, an ancient route much loved by walkers, and impressively it houses a Norman castle which you are free to wander round. There is a Cluniac Priory which has some of the most extensive and impressive ruins in the uk. It is run by English Heritage but you can walk the perimeter free of charge and be suitably amazed at its beauty. The river Nar, a natural chalk stream with trout (private fishing, sorry!) is at the bottom of the village and is suitable for swimming in places or paddling at the ford. (Don't drive through it even if your sat-nav says so...I will NOT be rescuing you) The church is stunning and deserves a visit, dating back to the 14th C, it is large and impressive. In the heart of the village is Stock's Green (outside the cottage) and here is a 16th C coaching Inn and a terrific gastropub. Treat yourself to an enormous supper and a pint of the specialist Ostrich Ale in the richly atmospheric bar. Music last Sunday of the month, quiz on alternative Monday nights. Barnfield's tea rooms is on the green too, right opposite the cottage, and they serve delicious homemade lunches, breakfasts and teas. You DEFINITELY need to book as it is extremely popular and please note, closed on Sundays. The Old Red Lion (down Bailey St) houses yoga courses and classes. The village hall has regular events ranging from Elvis nights through quizzes to Zumba classes and craft fairs. Locally there is a playing field, a Premier shop-soon to house a fish and chip counter- (they sell almost everything and have good opening hours), an Antique shop and a charity book-shop. Swaffham (3 miles) is a traditional market town (Saturday mornings) and is useful for Waitrose, Co-Coe's deli-cafe and restaurant, a wonderful bookshop, many charity shops/antiques/vintage shops. The coast is 35 minutes drive away (too many beaches to recommend; do your research) so pack a picnic (find the basket in the larder) and make a day of it then come back to a lovely fire and a glass of something strong from the cocktail trolley. Or a BBQ on the deck?
  • Great host, very helpful, lovely cottage with good quality amenities

  • Charlies place is a cosy, brilliantly equipped and organised base to explore a wonderful old part of Norfolk. Highly recommend it.

  • Lovely cosy cottage in great location with wonderful dog walks on the doorstep. Thoughtful touches like the welcome pack of bubbly, chocolates and grapes was really appreciated and even the dog got a welcome jar of dog biscuits! Superb communication by text. We had an amazing time and would definitely come again.

  • Charlie has a very comfortable cottage, she is quick to respond to requests and provides all that you need for your stay, comfortable beds, an effective shower and homely touches.

  • Amazing little cottage in the heart of castleacre, fantastic home touches and just a lovely little place. Host couldnt have been more helpful and the small touches were much appreciated.

    Martin2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie and John were fantastic hosts who exemplified the hospitality, quality, and character of the lovely village of Castle Acre. The cottage was cozy and we enjoyed the homegrown apples and pears, as well as the wood stove and kept us warm. Lovingly decorated and with a great garden. Highly recommend a visit to Castle Acre and the ruins of the 11th century monastery, an epic sight set against the beautiful open Norfolk sky.

    Anna2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant weekend in the cottage and would rate it six stars if we could. The cottage is very spacious and the decor is lovely with so many interesting things - our daughter particularly liked the record player. The beds are comfy and the shower really good. Castle Acre is beautiful with plenty of walks if you bring dogs. We have stayed in many cottages, in many countries and this is one of of the best because we were made to feel completely at home from the minute we arrived. We would not hesitate to recommend.

    Cheryl2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Charlie’s beautiful and stylish cottage. After a problem with our initial accommodation, we contacted Charlie last minute and she sprung into action to get the place ready quickly and was really welcoming and kind. We stayed with our toddler and there was everything we could have needed for our stay. The cottage is full of thoughtful little touches and luxuries and has everything you could possibly need. We hope to return again one day.

Quoin cottage is a lovely flint cottage , with a wonderful peaceful walled garden filled with flowers and blossom in spring and summer . It is perfectly placed in the heart of Castle Acre, within the cobbled walls of the village , and just inside Bailey Gate. From the windows upstairs , you can see the castle towering beyond the garden walls.
You are welcome to use the cottage and all of its amenieties. the television, wifi etc. there is parking two minutes drive from the cottage in stocks Green in front of the Ostrich pub. However, you are welcome to unload your car directly in front of the cottage when you arrive . To be aware that there are stairs in the cottage, not many , but if you have difficulties with climbing stairs , this is something to bear in mind. there is also no baby door etc to stop a baby from falling , so just to be aware of this . the garden is totally private, and you will have full acess. The washing machine is in the garage (not used for parking). The garage is attached to the house .You may use the fire in winter ,for cosyness, but there is also full heating and hot water in the cottage. I will leave some breakfast things on the kitchen table when you arrive , and there is a good coffee machine , kettle etc.
Castle acre is a beautiful historic village . within a short walk from Quoin cottage, past allotments, and through the medieval churchyard you will find the stunning ruins of the Abbey , you could either continue your walk down past the abbey to the ford through which the river mumbles and twists through banks of reeds . Play poo sticks from the bridge, continue on to the lovely village of south acre, or West Acre, where you could visit the tiny pub , West Acre theatre , or the West Acre garden centre .You may wish to stop at the Abbey and take a historical tour filled with fascinating information .or, just a few steps from Quoin cottage, and through the gate you could wander round the 11 centuary Norman castle. From here , join the nar valley walk , ot indeed numerous walks from Castle Acre. For a good pub meal , and great ambiance, I can reccomend the ostrich pub on Stocks Green , where a welcome fire roars in winter and you may find a band, or poetry evening in full swing. Castle acre has a great Fish and chip shop , next to the Spar, where you will find some basic essentials. For more in depth shopping , there is a waitrose, or Tescos and petrol station in Swaffam , a ten minute drive from Castle Acre...Swaffham also has a good Saturday market , where you could get fresh crab, local samfire , and many other delicious things . You will also find a good butchers, healthfood store with refills, and a well renound restauraunt called Strathams , where the food is delicious . There are many national trust houses, beautiful beaches, wonderful walks, and so much more within short drive from Castle Acre.
  • Gorgeous cosy, character filled cottage. Comfy beds. Spacious sitting room. Well stocked kitchen. The locals were so friendly. The tea shop is heavenly, and the Spar and Fish and Chip shop between them catered for our every need. The children adored exploring the castle. Would love to come back.

    Ros2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant stay at the cottage with our 2 young boys. Sophie had left some lovely touches for us. The location is so brilliant to absorb some history and our boys loved exploring the castle ruins and around the abbey. You can get to amazing beaches in about 40 mins and the nearest large town is 5 mins down the road with everything you need. There's a local pub, small shop and fish and chipshop. The cottage itself was lovely and cosy with great fireplace to sit around. We had a great time!

    Louise2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • If you're considering staying here, do it! Sophie is a thoughtful host with a beautiful home that is decorated to suit this quaint, homely cottage. I cannot recommend enough!

Our lovely cottage in Castle Acre sleeps two and is a workers cottage from the 1890s comprising a bedroom with a king-size bed, bathroom with bath & shower, a small study, a living room and a fully equipped kitchen. There are two gardens front and back of the cottage with access to a larger more secluded private garden with the apple tree at the back.
Nestled a short walk into the countryside and within the historical charms of Castle Acre, our cottage is an ideal retreat to those who are looking for time away from the bustle of everyday life. Good food, good walks and good sleep is why we sought to find this cottage which we’re now pleased to be able to share with others. The beautiful beaches and bistros of the North Norfolk coast are roughly 30 minute drive and the village itself has an ancient priory, castle, river walks and a great local pub, all a short amble from the front door. The kitchen is very well equipped to be able to cook up some culinary delights and has a Nespresso machine for your caffeine fix. The study is an ideal quiet space for writing and working whilst looking over the trees to the neighbouring fields. Also, if you want to bring along your well-behaved dog they are also more than welcome to stay at the cottage. *Please let us know when booking your stay if you’re planning to bring your four-legged friend.

She has thought of everything you need - the kitchen has all amenities and Anna had even left us a bottle of wine and delicious homemade granola! We were so cosy and comfy in the cottage - the bed, bedding and pillows were all high quality and made for a very restful sleep after crisp wintery walks through the countryside. We loved exploring Castle Acre itself, there's a cute pub and cafe in walking distance and wonderful English Heritage ruins to walk around. There are lots of good pubs / walks / cafes / beaches in easy reach by car. The PDF Anna emailed to us was full of useful information about the house, the surrounding area and all her favourite spots in Norfolk. We didn't sit down to read the PDF in detail until we arrived but I would recommend reading it prior to arrival as it contains check-in details and contact numbers. We felt right at home during our stay and were sad to leave! We hope to be back soon. Thanks so much Anna!

  • A place of calm and tranquility, shut off from the outside world apart from the friendly sleepy village it sits in. Anna and Tom have great taste and we kept coming across trinkets and things we loved days in. Super comfy bed, tasty homemade granola, and a wonderful roaring fire all made the weekend really memorable. We’ll be back!

  • We had the most peaceful weekend. Reading by the fire, long walk on the beach and great food in the local pub - just a short drive down the road. The house is beautiful and the complimentary wine went down a treat!

  • This week, we stayed at Anna’s house in the beautiful Castle Acre. Check-in was very straightforward, and as we enterd the house we were blown away by how stylish yet cozy it is decorated. It’s absolutely beautiful and there were some attentive details that made us feel very welcome. We made great use of Anna’s recommendations, both for food places and walks, which were especially handy as we had our dog with us! A perfect relaxing little getaway for the three of us!

  • Second stay at this lovely cottage in a lovely village. A great bolt hole for two.

    Anna2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • I had the perfect stay at Anna and Tom's cottage. I loved the beautiful thoughtful interior. Stylish indeed, but they have also created a cozy, calming space which was perfect for a couple of days of relaxation. All the books and magazines...heavenly! The kitchen was well equipped and I enjoyed cooking with the DAB radio on. Castle Acre itself is a lovely, pretty village. I would recommend strolling to the castle and taking a walk along the river. I received a thoughtful comprehensive guide to the area and the cottage. The pictorial guide to the multi fuel stove was particularly helpful for a fire novice like myself! Check in was simple and Anna was very helpful in responding to my questions. I can't wait to stay again.

  • I had a wonderful time at your lovely cottage with my two dogs. The cottage is stylish, cosy and clean, it was truly home-away-from-home. Kitchen is well equipped. Great shower. Plenty of wood/coal for those chillier nights. Great location for visiting the beaches of North Norfolk, which is what we did during our weeks stay. Anna was always on hand with any questions. I’m definitely returning for my next holiday. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home

    Choi2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautifully presented and in a great location to explore north Norfolk. We were met with a welcome card and a gift which we thought was really sweet. The villiage itself is extremely pretty with a decent convenience store. The fish and chips from the villiage was also decent quality. Anna and Tom sent extensive info through to us before our stay which was really helpful. We took up their recommendation to eat at a pub 30 mins drive away which was lovely and the perfect birthday treat. The living room seating wasn’t the most comfortable but that’s just a matter of personal taste

  • The cottage was clean and very well equipped. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived, as the pictures on the site do not do it justice. When we arrived my wife actually said she wished we were staying the week! We had lovely weather and so were able to sit out on the table and chairs in the garden and enjoy the quiet surroundings. If we are staying in the area again, we will be checking first if this cottage is available as it is ideal.

    Marc2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage surrounded by lovely scenery. Large enough for a family of four. Would definitely recommend a stay at this cottage.

  • We stayed for three nights to attend a wedding at Godwick Barn just a few minutes away. The house was easy to find, very comfortable and sparkling clean everywhere and the downstairs areas bigger than expected. The garden is full of birds and my favourite place to sit was the sunny and bright garden room. The village is very peaceful with a good play area for children next to the charming church which we discovered while walking the dog. Thanks for a lovely stay Deborah.

'Jennie's Cottage' is a delightful four bedroom cottage located in the very popular village of Castle Acre and is ideal for a family or two for the perfect getaway in the countryside.
A group of cottages has stood on the site since the early 1800s. Originally tied cottages to Earl of Leicester's, Holkham Estate, 'Jennies' is actually 2 cottages, one a 2 up, 2 down and the other a single storey, one bedroom. In 2001 the single storey had a 1st floor extension which provided a further 2 bedrooms, family bathroom and an en-suite bathroom. We are 5 mins (2.5 Miles) from West Acre Theatre, 25 Mins (16 Miles) from Kings Lynn Corn Exchange and Arts Theatre and 40 mins (30 miles) from the Norwich Theatre Royal and Madder Market .
  • House was great - perfect size for 2 families, and very comfortable all round. Castle Acre is a lovely village and we really enjoyed walking around the local area.

  • Nice cottage in a nice location. Host was fast to respond. Exactly what we were after. We had 8 adults and a dog staying for 2 nights and we found it to be plenty big enough. Might have found it a tad cozy if we were staying much longer but I'm sure longer stays would be perfect with children.
