Villa in Tulum
Villa LaGú
Please note this region’s beaches may be affected by a seaweed surge. Fore more information, please inquire with your Trip Designer. Enjoy luxury inspired by nature at Villa LaGu. This newly built Tulum vacation rental looks out over the jungle from a setting in the exclusive Holistika community, just steps from a spa, yoga center and more. With nearly 6,000 square feet of living space and five bedrooms, this villa lets you indulge with a group of up to ten friends or family members. Watch the sun move across the sky and listen to birds calling in the treetops from a terrace with a swimming pool, plenty of loungers, a Sonos sound system and a charcoal barbecue. In the evenings, you can put a favorite album on the indoor sound system or post photos of your holiday via Wi-Fi, or you can watch the stars come out while soaking in the al-fresco hot tub. Villa LaGu was designed to make the most of its lush surroundings, starting with a sliding glass wall that separates the terrace from the great room. An open-concept layout means you can carry on a conversation whether lounging in the sunken sitting area, sitting at the dining table or having a snack at the breakfast bar in the fully equipped kitchen. Each of the villa’s five bedrooms is a private retreat with a king bed, en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The two-story master bedroom also has honeymoon-suite-worthy details such as an al-fresco bathtub. During your stay, don’t miss the chance to book a spa treatment, practice yoga or experience a temazcal, or steam ceremony, at Tulum Holistika. While the community’s restaurants are also within walking distance, you can head out on foot to the La Veleta neighborhood as well. Of course, no visit to the Riviera Maya is complete without a day at the awe-inspiring Tulum ruins or on the picturesque beach. Copyright © Luxury Retreats. All rights reserved. Villa in Tulum
Villa Sofia
Please note that this region may be affected by shifting seasonal currents and weather patterns causing an influx of seaweed at the beach. Tucked between the Caribbean Sea and the jungle, on the verge of picturesque Tankah Bay and tranquil Soliman Bay, is Villa Sofia. This spectacular oceanfront home is one of the newest in the area—just outside Tulum—and features six bedrooms, including one in a casita. The combination of gorgeous location and spacious accommodations makes this vacation rental perfect for a getaway with friends or a relaxed holiday with extended family. The villa’s beachfront living areas feel like your very own luxury resort. Sip refreshments in the shaded sitting areas, go for a swim in the infinity pool, stretch out in the sun on a lounger or perch on one of the swings. As the sun sets, gather under the palapa for a meal at the al-fresco dining table or step inside to unwind around the satellite TV and share photos via Wi-Fi. Spread out over 6,000 square feet, the interiors of Villa Sofia are spacious and bright. At the heart is an L-shaped great room with living and dining areas that open to the terrace and a kitchen with a breakfast bar. Polished tile floors are cool underfoot, cream-colored furniture is paired with wood accents for a sophisticated look, and two sets of sliding doors flood the space with Riviera Maya sunshine. Villa Sofia has five bedrooms in its main house—four with king beds and one with two twin beds—and one bedroom in a casita. All six bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and the same refined mix of neutral tones and warm wood accents, and many have private terraces with ocean views. With a king bed, sofa bed and kitchenette, the casita could be used as a honeymoon suite or a retreat for the in-laws. While you could spend your stay watching the waves crash on the beach in front of the villa or strolling on the sand, it’s well worth leaving this dreamy property to explore the area. Make the 20-minute drive to Tulum to see the unforgettable Mayan ruins, the 50-minute drive to Playa del Carmen for sun and shopping, or the 55-minute drive to Coba for more incredible archaeological sites. All about Tulum

Planning a Tulum vacation? We’re here to help!

If you have an Instagram account, you may have seen a new phenomenon over the last couple of years: Pictures of white sandy beaches and gin-clear oceans with bronzed limbs and ice-cold margaritas, all featuring the same hashtag, #Tulum. This Mexican hot spot, situated on what is known as the Mayan Riviera, is fast becoming the go-to vacation destination for clued-up vacationers looking for a relaxing break, filled with cultural activities, wellness options galore, and plenty of sizzling nightlife. At Luxury Retreats, we have the villas to fulfill all of those wishes and so much more. All you have to decide is which part of paradise you are going to call your very own.

Food to tempt your senses

For cocktails using local ingredient mezcal head on to the bar at Hotel Tiki Tiki or Bar Arca, where the drinks as a strong as the views are striking. Another great option is Gitano, a mezcaleria hidden in jungle surroundings. Friday nights there are legendary, so remember to bring your dancing shoes.

If ceviche and fish tacos are your foodie passions, make a track to El Camello or North Beach’s Bar Adelita, both are famous for serving these traditional dishes just right. Night owls will enjoy dancing under the stars at Papaya Playa, a hotel which moonlights as an open-air nightclub, and La Zebra, whose Sunday Salsa nights get the blood pumping. Finally, when heading out for the night or grabbing a bite to eat during the day, remember to bring cash. This community still hangs on to its boho, laid-back ethos so credit card machines are something of a rarity.

Into the blue

With its location right on the Caribbean, it’s no surprise that water features heavily in any Tulum vacation. From the pristine beaches to the freshwater cenotes (natural sinkholes-turned-swimming pools), and ecological parks, prepare to spend a lot of time in and surrounded by H20. Playa Paraiso or Paradise Beach is widely considered the best beach in the area. With turquoise waters, silky sands, and undulating palm trees, it’s easy to spend a day lolling in the shade with quick dips in the ocean.

For those who love to snorkel, make a day trip to Akumal beach. It’s the place to spot a wide variety of sea life, including manta rays and barracudas.

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve just south of Tulum boasts over 1.2 million acres of pristine landscape and is a fabulous place to experience the natural beauty of this location. Keep an eye out for monkeys and jaguars as you explore. Baco Paila, set within the reserve, is loved for its undeveloped beauty. This beach doesn’t have many mod-cons but what it lacks in amenities it makes up for in peace, quiet and total tranquillity.

On a slightly smaller scale, Parque Ecologico Labnaha offers jungle zip-lining, snorkeling, cenote swimming and kayaking opportunities for adventurous travelers.

Living history

It’s still not really known why the ancient Mayan civilization died out. Asteroid or mass epidemic; you can ponder this for yourself as you walk through some of the best preserved historical sites from this period right in Tulum. The 800-year-old walled city in Tulum boasts panoramic views of the ocean and is easy to reach. Further afield you can visit El Castillo, the iconic pyramid building, alongside the Temple of the Frescoes and the Temple of the Descending God in the UNESCO world heritage site at Chichen Itza. The Mayan temple Coba is also worth visiting as its jungle backdrop makes for an affecting experience.

Where to stay – Tulum vacation rentals

Whether you are planning a romantic mini-break or a large family gathering, Tulum caters for every type of vacation. Just outside your villa’s door, you’ll find breathtaking beaches, backed by jungle canopies, Mayan ruins, and enticing eateries and late-night bar stops. Water sports fans will love the variety of activities on offer, with paddle boarding, surfing, and jet-skiing, just some of the options.
