This beautiful romantic cottage is in a prime position on Aldeburgh High Street located just a minutes walk to Aldeburgh beach, shops and restaurants. This iconic and charming property is believed to be one of the oldest in Aldeburgh and is thought to date back to the 18th century. The property has distinctive and unusual stone steps leading to a high level front door – the possible entrance for the Custom office – with storage below, perhaps for contraband.
“We would highly recommend this beautiful cottage! It was cosy, clean and beautifully decorated and we had the best night's sleep as the mattress was superb! It is ideally situated with a short walk to the beach and Aldeburgh is such a beautiful place. We visited so many places with relative ease and had such a relaxing holiday in this beautiful, quiet, immaculate cottage and we hope to return in the near future! Huge thanks Emma for this little piece of paradise! Kind regards Gill and Mark Danbury.”

“‘Hidden gem’ is an understatement We stayed with Irene at her home for 5 days in July 2019. Everything was not just as described on the profile, it was a lot more. We absolutely loved everything about the place - it’s clean, quiet, charming and has loads of artistic character of its owner Irene. But what the description doesn’t capture is the hospitality and the wonderful attitude of our host Irene. She spent a lot of time making sure we are comfortable and that we knew our way around Leiston. She would be present completely with us in the hours we spent at home and in fact went out of the way to help us get a sense of the small and charming community of Leiston. Her home is full of lovely touches of her creativity. Her 2 pets Milton and Whiskey are adorable and very well trained and added to the fun of our stay there. Thanks to Irene for a lovely stay and for her genuine and hospitable self. Highly recommend!!”
My house is the southernmost in the High Street. Between the river and sea, it gives onto the marshes. Closest house to yacht club. Easy walking distance of restaurants, shops and the beach. Suitable for couples, birders, solo adventurers, business travellers. Parking. Second twin room with ensuite available. For the uninitiated, Aldeburgh is a small coastal fishing and sailing town on the east coast of England. There are many other sporting and leisure pursuits available.
“Feeling very lucky and tremendously grateful to have stayed at Byford house; Dinny’s kindness, laughter and interest is very infectious and we were made to feel so welcome all the time! It was wonderful; she was especially lovely towards my mother so I’m pleased as punch. The facilities are superb, great views and very comfortable all round. And if that wasn’t enough, the spot is ideal for beach, town and walks. If you’re considering a visit, just Go! As soon as we’d left we wanted to return ❤️”
