“This tucked away little place was a great refuge for me. Quiet and thoughtfully set up, I got some writing done, lots of reading and good sleep. There are walking and biking trails that are very close as well as a canoe launch for the Turkey River. It is very convenient to Effigy Mounds National Monument and a couple state parks. I had a good time exploring the local food vendors too. The Stolen Brothers BBQ in West Union was my favorite.”
Welcome to Trout River Log Cabin, a rustic 19th century Norwegian-built log house nestled in the rolling hills of Northeast Iowa, just seven miles from downtown Decorah, or three from TG Brewing. The cabin is open seasonally from April to October. Our family farm with its many acres of perennial grass fields, timber, and meandering Trout River is absolutely gorgeous. And while you're at it be sure to check out our other overnight stay, Decorah House, located five blocks from downtown Decorah.
“The cabin was gorgeous and we enjoyed our stay. Walking to the river to fly fish was great and there are a lot of trout! It is about a 15 minute walk and the walk back is all up hill, good exercise and through the woods which provides nice shade during this hike. I am extremely picky about the cleanliness of places where I stay and this one was perfectly clean. Our stay was very private and the proximity to town is great, yet you still feel like you’re far away from anywhere. We will be returning again.”
The Brick Manor is a historical house built in the 1860s. This is a large upstairs Suite with a queen size bed and private bathroom. You will have a private area that includes your bedroom and bathroom with shower and tub. Netflix, HULU, BritBox and Wi-Fi are available in your room. The entire house has been remodeled but since it's an old house the stairs can be a little steep. Come visit our quaint town on the Turkey River! 30-40 mins. from Decorah, Prairie du Chein and the Mississippi.
“This charming, warm, and homey house in a quaint town was easy to get into, with clear directions. She'd left me notes so I didn't have any questions. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, the decor gently whimsical.. Rebecca served me a delicious egg bake, fruit, and fancy coffee for breakfast. Most importantly, I had a flat tire while there and she knew just who to call to come change it. (Some of the "rescue" dispatchers I called didn't even know where this town was.) She was very kind and helpful. Would recommend her and her place without reservation!”
