SoulSpace is home to 50+ rescued farm animals. Our mission is to help end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education, and advocacy. Check in with Kara, the Founder of SoulSpace, have a personal tour of the Sanctuary, then spend your visit relaxing on the peaceful 11 acre property, and spending as much time with the animals as you would like. Stillwater has many options for great food and nightlife and is a 15-20 minute drive from the sanctuary.
“My wife and I went to Soulspace for her birthday getaway weekend. We are both vegan and Kara gave us some good suggestions. The house is all vegan and they are excellent to the animal residents. Great smells often fill the kitchen and animal sounds fill the air! The location is great. It is in a pretty rural town. It is calming to be away from things. However, in a pinch, civilization is nearby in the surprisingly hopping downtown of Stillwater, MN, only 20 minutes away. We tried out Tilted Tiki, which had a fun tropical theme and a unique cover band on Saturday night. They have a well labeled menu with many vegan options. It's mostly a "mock-meat" menu, but they really surprised us with their marinated (actual) tofu "wings" and pineapple fried rice. Creative drinks, too! The next day, we drove into the Twin Cities to see the Mall of America (try the food at "Crave" while there) and capped the evening off with dinner at the all plant-based Minneapolis restaurant "Fig + Farro." Upscale dining with really creative flavors! A must. The sanctuary itself is wonderful. The large attic-type room has tons of great amenities and is a few steep steps above the bathroom, which is also yours. There is plenty to help you unwind: a coffee machine, fridge, a record player, Alexa, Netflix, old school Nintendo, art supplies etc. It felt very welcoming and easy to relax. Make sure you're not running too much stuff at once or you'll trip a breaker, but that's nothing to fret much about. We didn't have time to try out the awesome-looking tub, but it looked very relaxing. Kara leaves you space to yourselves, but is also easily available if you need a suggestion, help or an offer for some homemade soup. One of the workers was staying in the house as well and he was very nice (he made some nice-smelling pancakes). The house has a lot of animals (dogs, cats, Hey Hey the rooster) and you'll probably find one or two of the critters wander into your room. We really bonded with one of the cats, who slept us one night. We went outside and hung out with the animals wherever we had a moment and it was fun to learn about their different personalities. There are a ton of awesome birds. The donkey Amos and goat Tally were like brothers and the turkeys will follow you around curiously like they own the place. It's funny. The farm pigs are so huge and gentle. You always think about pigs having huge snouts, but their ears are enormous. They are intelligent animals and it's comforting to know they have a place to live out their lives. We are already talking about coming back to visit someday. Go here... you won't regret it.”
Our very private cabin on Hennessy Creek sits pond-side at the Eagles Roost Trout Farm. Relax to the trickle of our clear waters, hike on 100’s of acres & trails, fly fish for Rainbow Trout, enjoy a campfire or take a hot sauna, then sleep like a baby. Rustic & perfect for kids or couples, bikers & hikers, a haven for birdwatchers, nature lovers, & stress busters. We rightly consider our cabin a “destination” unto itself regardless of your plans beyond staying here. We are closed Dec-Feb.
“When you first arrive, you are greeted with the seclusion of beautiful birch trees. You venture a bit further and you see the pond for the first time. There’s dark clouds that are swaying back and forth in the water and as you approach you notice the clouds are breathtaking trout. You see the bright red stripes sway back and forth and it’s almost impossible to not stop and admire their beauty. After you take in the scenery, you are greeted with a warm hello and welcome from fabulous hosts. Bill and Sere give you a full tour of your secluded cabin. You first enter and see the beautiful sunroom where you can get creative thoughts of writing and drawing out. Your hosts then show you your room, a cozy bed with a loft above it, with beautiful wood paneling, giving you the cabin experience you desire. To your surprise, you are shown that there is a fully operated sauna in the next room. You get to enjoy the soothing hot rocks after a long day of hiking. You make your way outside and you are shown the breathtaking outdoor shower that runs warm and cool water. Finally, you are asked if you need anything else and then you are given the freedom to expire the great beyond. You walk around the land and you hear the soothing sounds of a waterfall that is constructed from the runoff of the pond. You continue to walk until you find a path. The path weaves in and out of the forest until you come to a clearing. You see miles and miles of rolling hills, scattered lakes to be adored, and the sounds of the birds that have made this sacred land home. These hills are constructed perfectly to set up the scene of watching the planet that sustains the earth rise in the morning. The sky glows with shades of amber and pink, and you day has begun. You explore the land more and see the different wildlife around you. Deer, eagles, birds, turtles sunbathing along the shore of the lakes, etc. After a long day of hiking you return back to your campsite where there is a perfect fire pit to end the day. As the sun sets, you get to take in the beautiful stars as they light up the night. If there was ever a place to get away, this is it. It’s a perfect place to start your day with a run if you desire. You see the plains and streams as you prance up and down the twisting roads. You pass multiple horse farms, and they all run up to you wanting to join in on the playful running you are exhibiting. After a long run, you kick you feet up and sway gently back and forth on the hammock that’s placed right next to the pond. You through some fish feed into the pond and watch the feeding frenzy of trout swoop in and battle for a meal. This incredible getaway is a 10/10 and Bill and Sere are the best hosts you could ask for! The pictures do not do it justice, you just have to come and see it for yourself to believe the beauty!”
