Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • CWM Penmachno miners walk.
Drive through CWM Penmachno, pass the quarry to the end, meeting point on the left, oppersite chapel. Come in wellies. The reviews capture the experience, please read below as written by people's experience: Imagine driving over a single lane mountain track to a tiny hamlet, hiking up to mine shaft hidden in a forest. The host then unlocks the rusting bars & you walk in a dark tunnel dug 160 years ago, as fresh water streams out, taking you with head torches deep under the Welsh mountains & into abandoned caverns & waterfalls. It's magic, Alice can unlock. Hearty, wet, exciting & magical. We really enjoyed this experience. It’s a fair trek to the mine but a beautiful one through the woodlands walking up a stream... uphill! The views were amazing!! The mine itself was great and very wet. There’s one part where you climb up a waterfall/steep stream! This was lots of fun but quite challenging and exhausting. Once out the mine, there’s another steep uphill walk. Alice is lovely, very chatty! She isn’t a fountain of knowledge on the mine like her husband, but clearly very experienced walking this route! It took nearly 3 hours as no rushing, no issues waiting for group, we looked around an abandoned village. No phone network here.Highly recommend this trip, very good value for money. Other things to note Wellies and water proof coat needed. Bring snacks and water.

  • Snowdonia Canoe Journey
We meet at 10 am at my woodland, Coed Obry, 1 mile north of Penrhyndeudraeth where there is secure parking. We carry out medical checks and get to know each other, fit buoyancy aids, paddles and put our valuables in dry bags. We then drive 5 mins to the Afon Dwyryd Canoe access point and unload the canoes. After a safety briefing we paddle upstream for 1 ½ hours (the flow is weak), learning canoe techniques: the J-stroke, turning, trim, poling, and sailing.. We encounter wildlife along this stretch, buzzards, herons, kingfishers, Ospreys in Spring/summer, and a variety of ducks and geese. From 13.00-13.45 we get out at a secluded beach or quiet spot on the bank for our packed lunch. You bring your lunch and I’ll make tea and/or fresh expresso coffee on a stove. After lunch we paddle back to our access point and return to Coed Obry by 4pm to unload canoes and have tea/coffee. You will leave having learned some canoe skills and carried out a leisurely canoe journey in this beautiful part of Snowdonia, you will have encountered wildlife along the river and in the wood and have been guided by a canoe guide who is a retired Professor of Physical Geography & Outdoor Education.

We will be painting with watercolours in some of the most dramatic and beautiful locations in the Snowdonia National Park. Many of the locations require a bit of walking but nothing too strenuous. I will demonstrate my approach to watercolour sketching and guide you through the whole process to produce your own watercolour masterpiece. Betws-y-Coed will be our central meeting place before setting out on our adventure. Other things to note We may be traveling to local areas once we have met up.

  • Alpaca walk and farm visit in Snowdonia
Our guests arrive on site, and after the “human” introductions we proceed to the alpacas, where before entering the enclosure guests are briefed on how to behave around the animals, how to handle them, and a general safety talk concerning been on a farm with loose animals. They will then come and meet the alpacas, hand feed them and learn about the history of the alpaca species with facts and information while they can also get hands on a handle the animals. Then we halter up and after practicing leading the guests then lead the alpacas around the farm, meeting the various farm animals here, depending on the time of year this can include hand feeding, bottle feeding lambs/goats kids, photo opportunities with the pigs/cattle/sheep. Whilst walking any wildlife is pointed out, along with natural features ( mountains, peat bog, ancient oak woodland). We also talk about the various farm animals, benefits of the free range systems of care, and answer any questions. We then continue the walk back to the other alpacas, before letting the herd back out. At this point guests can enjoy a drink, or are welcome to bring a picnic and can watch the alpacas at leisure, grazing and playing. At all points the guide is there to answer any questions, and tell people information about all the animals and nature. Other things to no

  • Walking with Spirit
This is a walking experience which involves a method of walking meditation, contemplation and conversation. They are gentle walks where I hope you will feel fully supported whatever your age or ability. I have created these walks because I am aware that life is often a complicated or confused affair, seemingly too full or too empty and it is so easy to mislay or loose a part of ourselves and to become unbalanced in some way. My experience tells me that nature is not only our greatest teacher but also our greatest healer. The mere presence of nature can bring us back, to remember and to reconnect us with a deeper part of ourselves. To give us the strength to follow our dreams, or provide us with a solid grounding in troubled times. I guide you through a technique of walking that will enable you to still your mind and open your heart. With practice this experience will bring to you an ever growing sense of peace, a clarity of vision and a feeling of well being into your daily life. We can walk along crystal clear streams or rest amongst the ancient Oaks and Hawthorns, and walk further into the hills to meet with the spirit of this ancient landscape. Other things to note Please do contact me with any queries or to discuss individual requirements or specific dates or timings. I also host an airbnb private room.Good for those travelling or for those in need of deep rest
