  • Peace, quiet, beautiful views, no light pollution, and waking to the sound of birdsong. Perfect. Just a very short drive to Bantry which is also lovely. Wood burning stoves in the evening added to the wonderful feeling of staying within a rural idyll. Good value and a very friendly, helpful host.

  • Lovely old style house about 5-10 mins outside Bantry. Some firing on arrival, Bring firing if you plan to stay a few days the stoves make it homely and warm! Great for a peaceful break and plenty nearby - Sheep’s head walk is great. Jerome was very helpful and quick to reply to any queries. Balcony is great for a cuppa in the morning or as the sun goes down (if your lucky enough to have good weather).

  • This was without the doubt one of our favourite places to stay. We had three great evenings here, and we had some time to explore surrounding area. Jerome gave us important tips about the local attractions and good restaurants to visit which was much appreciated. House was located in beautiful countryside and decorative details around the house that have made place feel unique and special. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

    Ana2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very cozy with a fireplace in the living room and a lot of places to chill. The location is great to explore the nature around the area and just a 15 minute drive to Bantry. Would always come here again.

  • This cottage is fabulous. We arrived during storm Dennis in Feb 2020 to lovely cosy log burners waiting for us. It was a perfect base to explore South West Ireland, just 5 minutes into Bantry, with pubs, restaurants, shops & a decent sized Lidl giving us everything we needed. Beds were comfortable, lots of room to spread out as a family downstairs. Jerome quickly responded to any queries & provided plenty of wood to keep us warm for the week. The cottage was very clean & tidy & the WiFi worked well. Very little phone coverage (which was great) I would highly recommend this cottage, Jerome & the West coast of Ireland to anyone wanting a real break from it all. The 18 inch thick walls of the cottage kept all the wind & rain out too.

    Carol2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay in idyllic farm cottage in easy distance from the lovely town of Bantry. Very spacious and cosy in the evenings with the wood burner. We had a fantastic time.

    Emma2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice quiet house, well equipped, spacious. A large plot, a stove, nothing to complain about.

I (with the help of some really patient and kind friends and family) restored The Grove Cottage in 2014. It's is a beautiful 19th Century Farmhouse where my father grew up. The house is within walking distance from the Flesk River, 1.3 kms outside the beautiful town of Killarney and a stones throw from Killarney National Park. A great base for hiking, cycling, fishing and other adventure. Guests love it's country feel even though it's so close to town. Why not visit sometime and enjoy :) x
This house has been in my family since the early 1900's. Lovingly restored the house is in a in a beautiful setting close to the River Flesk just outside Killarney town and only a short drive from the world famous National Park and the lakes of Killarney. It's a great base to explore not only all Killarney has to offer but also The Dingle Peninsula, The Beara Peninsula and of course The Ring of Kerry. There is a fully equipped kitchen, including a microwave, oven, hob, full fridge freezer and a Nespresso machine - some coffee capsules are also supplied along with tea, herbal teas, hot chocolate, oils and a selection of spices. The cosy sitting room has four armchairs, a two seater couch and a couple of foot stools so after a long day hiking or exploring you can come home to put your feet up in front of the toasty solid fuel stove - while enjoying a good book or a game of chess :). Timber, coal, starters and firelighters are supplied for the fire. The bathroom downstairs has an electric shower, hairdryer, toiletries and plenty of fresh towels. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, two doubles and one twin. A travel cot and mattress are also available. The upstairs bathroom has a full bath, sink and toilet. There is a utility shed beside the house, with a washing machine (washing detergent supplied) and dryer. Also very handy if you are doing any Adventure Races or outdoor activities as there is plenty of space for guests to use this for bike/equipment storage etc. All utilities are included in the rate.
The farmhouse is located in Ballycasheen a quiet suburb of Killarney, the house is only a short walk from the banks of the River Flesk and very close to town and National Park.
  • This place was amazing. Absolutely fantastic place to stay. My wife and I stayed with our two kids (aged 2 and 5) and the grandparents. It felt rural, yet so close to Killarney. The beds were comfortable, the place was spotless and Niamh was such a brilliant host, giving some brilliant suggestions and being very accommodating. We use Airbnb a lot and this was hands down the best experience we've had.

    Ben2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Niamh met us in the driving Irish wind and rain and helped us with our luggage into the cottage. We were met with fresh flowers, and some cookies and milk in this fantastic cottage. The kitchen was very well appointed with a greats selection of coffees and teas. The cottage is very clean and the little wood/coal stove is perfect for sitting around in the evening. Niamh was a great hostess and provided plenty of information on the local area. The location is perfect. Just outside of town so you could easily take the walking path on a day when the weather isn't too bad. You can also walk down to the river which runs right behind the property to get a dose of nature if you desire. The cottage is very well decorated and immediately felt like home. Looking forward to returning to Killarney, and I will book my trip around the availability of this great place!

    Timothy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Spotlessly clean, super cosy and really nicely decorated. One tiny thing to note is that the water pressure was a bit light in the showers but that didn't bother me, really. Niamh was so helpful. We couldn't ask for more and will definitely be back.

    Ciara2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic Airbnb, extra special touches, charming well decorated cottage in a nice quiet corner of Killarney

    Brian2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our 6 night stay at The Grove was above and beyond our expectations. Everything was perfect: a delightful, cozy living room to enjoy, fabulously comfortable beds with clean crisp soft bedding, sweet and thoughtful snacks and drinks waiting upon our arrival, wonderful suggestions for eating and activities in the area.. any question I had, Niamh was quick to respond and always helpful and kind. A beautiful home with too many lovely touches to describe. The best equipped kitchen I have ever seen in an Airbnb. Absolutely fabulous home and experience, from the first step through the door to closing it behind us for the last time at the end of our stay. A thousand thank-you’s, Niamh!! We can’t wait to come back. :-)

    Cara2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best places I’ve ever stayed . And I travel quite a lot around the world. Just perfect !

    Daniel2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • 10 out of 10 for Niamhs beautiful house, everything was perfect, so clean stylish and cosy. Has everything you need, walking distance to the town. Niamh had provided all the information about where to go, eat and see around the town prior to arrival and was available at any time if we had any problems! Would highly recommend it to anyone coming to Killarney you wont be disappointed. We will be looking to stay here again whenever we come to Killarney!

    Siofra2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • From start to finish, everything was outstanding! Niamh's great hospitality and communication was second to none. The amount of love and attention put into the refurbishment is amazing. Such stylish design features. Niamh was very knowledgeable about the area and offered tons of recommendations! (We loved the Killarney Brewing Company and The Mad Monk) The location of the cottage was ideal. Easily accessible to all amenities. We are looking forward to staying at the cottage again.

  • O'Brien's Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. The lodge is bigger than expected, very cosy, with everything we needed for a great stay. Neasa welcomed us when we arrived with a treat for us (as it was our honeymoon), which was so thoughtful. The lodge is within walking distance of the two local pubs, where we met some locals who also made us feel welcome. The area is stunning, and the lodge is perfectly locate to explore from. Thank you Neasa, Karen & Steve x

Our property is a luxury glamping experience set in a peaceful rustic rural space. The glamping area is a large, very bright studio with unique wooden features and wood burning stove for cosiness. Very comfortable relaxing and quite space to chill out. NOTE:sink, toilet and shower 30 second walk away from studio in host house through a private entrance. Drinking water provided. Great for road & hill walking, no traffic. Hour to Killarney, West Cork & Cork City. Macroom 6 miles away for shops.
We grow our own vegetables and keep chickens and try to live in a sustainable way. As this area is 1000 metres above sea level and there are lots of beautiful native trees planted on our land you can enjoy amazing fresh air and space. It is a perfect place to chill out and relax in peace and quiet after your day of sight seeing and exploring.
This area is unique because it gives you the feeling of what it is like to experience real rural Irish living while being within an hour drive of all touristic places.
  • I’ve stayed here a few times now and as always it’s brilliant hospitality and a wonderful place to stay. Excellent hospitality Regina and Paul are wonderful hosts and would highly recommend to all!

    Av2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down one of the best Airbnb’s I ever stayed it. The apartment is perfect!! Regina is such a kind and warm host. The stove is so cosy and heats up the space so quickly. Beds are lovely, and the bathroom and shower is only a couple seconds walk away. I originally booked 2 nights but was having such a great time that I booked an extra 2 nights, would of stayed for another week if I could have. Perfect commute to Coachford where I was taking part in a course. Couldn’t recommend it more.

  • A beautiful recluse, really comfy and easily made to feel at home. Everything worked wonderfully in the space. The area itself is absolutely gorgeous and a walk up the lanes is a must.

    Av2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • 2 nights of real peace away from it all in a beautiful setting. What more do you want 🙂

    David2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Regina and Paul's place was the accommodation highlight of my trip: I simply needed a place to crash on route to Cork, but their place gave me the emotional nourishment I didn't know I needed amidst a long road trip. The place is cozy and stylish, reminding me of little California cabins I've stayed at. Regina greeted me, having already started a fire in the little fireplace located in the private unit. It's a small space, but the space is really well utilized. It felt like a regular sized apartment. It's a mini kitchen, but they had everything I needed: Regina had carefully stocked the mini fridge with milk, butter, yoghurt, and jam for my stay, along with some fresh soda bread for me to enjoy in the morning. I was here mid-November, and it was one of the few properly heated places I've stayed at! It's very quiet at night, so I was TOASTY in bed listening to the rain on the roof. It's the kind of place you can really relax at. I regret not having allocated more time to spend here: I would have loved to get to know the hosts more. 'Tis my only regret :)

    Tuna2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is outstanding, you feel like your in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere. So snug and cosy!

    Luke2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great! It’s a lovely space with lots of thoughtful touches. Lovely selection of books to browse & a delicious selection of scones or fruit & porridge for breakfast. Regina & Paul are very welcoming & quick to respond to queries.

Old stone cottage built in the 1700's rennovated slowly over the last 20 years - and still ongoing! Private access to river, bathroom only used by the 2 guest rooms and catering facilities shared with owner, however you MUST check first to see if the kitchen is available when you are here as I cater for WWOOF volunteers who help here as well. Dogs, cats, views, sea within 20 mins walk. Lively household with artists and environmentalists. Child friendly.
The Pink Room has a 4ft double bed and a single and space for a put-u-up or travel cot which can be provided. We call it 'the sleeping room' as everyone seems to sleep well there!
West Cork is one of the most beautiful areas of Ireland and I keep maps and brochures of local sites and activities for guests to use.
  • Thanks so much for everything, Annie! I especially appreciate our conversation over that yummy breakfast you provided! I'll have to look into that Master's program in Edinburgh for sure.

    Patrice2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Perhaps the best Airbnb accommodation where we have been. Annie is lovely. We chatted with her, we made tea together, she told us very interesting things. The place is wonderful in the middle of the field but only 10-12 by car from the town. Annie also makes her own bread and we ate it for breakfast. Bed very comfortable and bathroom very good. We would return without hesitation! Thanks Annie for everything

    Micol2019-08-05T00:00:00Z

  • Annie is delightful and her place is eclectic and down to earth. Wake up to the smell of homemade bread that will be served at your breakfast. If you are there during the day hours be sure to walk down to the river.

  • Very peaceful, spacious room, en suite with modern bathroom in a lovely location with the pub/restaurant serving great food (since 1775!) on the other side of the courtyard.

  • A nice, clean, comforyable lodge with stylish Victorian decor, literally right next to a castle. It's a short drive to Killarney National Park, so if you plan on going there, stay here instead of the hotels in Killarney. Amazing value as well.

  • My sisters and I loved our stay at the Lodge at the Mills Inn. Ballyvournay is a very scenic town. We loved our morning walk through the woods to St. Gobnait's old cemetery, church, and holy well. We arrived late the night before and Don made us delicious toasted sandwiches even after the kitchen had closed. We enjoyed the sandwiches with delicious local beer from 9 White Deer Brewery. The room was very comfortable and clean. We were in a triple room with an ensuite bath. I would highly recommend staying at this authentic Irish place!

    Helen2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at The Mills for many years but this was the first time in The Lodge. The booking process, comms and check-in was smooth (able to even check in a few hours early) The Lodge is a hidden gem within the stunning grounds, if there were other guests there we didn’t hear them, it was clean and all of the staff were helpful. Would recommend and return.

  • Well I can honestly say this is one of the loveliest places I have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect! Not only was the view stunning, everything about this ‘tiny house’ has been well thought through. From the complimentary milk, bread and butter....to the fantastic range of teas available. The towels were crystal white and fluffy and soft - probably the softest towel I’ve ever had! Car is essential for the area to get around I’d advise, but that wasn’t an issue for us. Tom was lovely when we met him and showed us around. We only stayed here one night, but I wish our trip was longer and that we could have spent another! We will be returning!

  • Lovely traditional Irish house with home-made scones and home-grown tomatoes! Dorothy is a super host with plenty of international stories to share! We stayed just one night but were warmly surprised with a Christmas present waiting for us in the morning. Thanks Dorothy for your warm welcome to your house!

    Ruta2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • I just want to say thanks to Dorothy for making our 3 days one of the best trips of our life. Her house was amazing with all the amenities and warm even in chilly weather. She welcomed us with warm hospitality and tried to provide comfort in every way. I never saw in any Airbnb, served hot beverage and scones prepared by host at arrival in night. Also she prepared breakfast every morning and personally served us on the dining table which is quite unique hospitality. Her freshly baked scones and Jam was perfect. Even I got one jar of jam to take back home. Fresh tomatoes from her garden was delicious. Cows on the farm and fresh smell of grass reminded us what we are missing in our city life. Thanks, Again Dorothy for everything.

  • Just beautiful! A lovely comfortable space with all of the finishing touches. Easy to check in with the lock box at the front door, all the essentials and extras, and stunning view. Everything was clean and extra soft towels! Thanks for having us Tom and Deirdre. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

  • The place is perfectly located with a spectacular view over the lake! The loft itself is simply amazing, very welcoming and cozy. We only spent one night here but it was much better than expected. We totally recommend it and would come back any time.

  • We felt very comfortable. The loft was very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. Everything is available for a delicious breakfast. We can only recommend the loft!

    Lisa2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The Loft is a beautiful and spacious loft-style apartment. The finishing are elegant and welcoming. Checking in and finding the venue was a breeze and there are plenty of local attractions in the area. The only downside to our time, was we spent most of our time at local attractions (like Blarney Castle) and not enough time enjoying this beautiful space. The view of the local lake is simply stunning. Make sure to pencil in time to enjoy a cup of coffee or bottle of wine (weather permitting!) Thanks for hosting us on our honeymoon. Chris & Katie

(Not for driving hire - max 7 nights - not suitable for 4 or 5 adults). Self-catering , sleeping up to a family of 5 (but not more than 3 adults), parked in front of our house with access to shared kitchen/shower/toilet in the Outhouse. Tig Lammax is located in quiet countryside 6km from the town of Macroom in a lightly populated rural area, close to The Gearagh Nature Reserve, a popular walking area, and Gougane Barra National Park. See tiglammax com website for more information.
The Campervan has a high level, curtained, fixed king-size bed, and a small double sofa bed and a single sofa bed in the lounge area of the van, so we can accommodate up to a family of 5 (but not more than 3 adults). Guests have the use of a shared sitting room with satellite TV in the house. WiFi is now available throughout the property. The house sits on 1/2 acre of land with a newly landscaped garden. There is parking your car next to the Campervan. We are ideally situated for travellers between Cork City & Killarney being only half an hour by car to Gougane Barra, 55 mins to Killarney and 40 mins to Cork City. Campervan & Pod guests (see separate listing) have access to a newly installed kitchen in the Outhouse together with shower, toilet, and seating area for your meals . Continental breakfast is also available in the cottage at an extra charge of €5 per person. The accommodation is more suitable for guests travelling by car due to it's rural location. However, we welcome walkers and cyclists and we can collect from Macroom, which is well served by buses from Cork, Killarney, Tralee etc, for an extra €8 voluntary gratuity per round trip.
The district is lightly populated. We have one immediate neighbour and about 10 other dwellings within one square kilometre - fairly typical of rural Ireland. The house is situated in a quiet part of the Cork countryside, 6km from Macroom town and 1km from The Gearagh, a national nature reserve of great natural importance due to it's rich and rare diversity of wildlife, representing the only extant extensive alluvial woodland in Western Europe. It makes for a very pleasant 6km walk. While the countryside is hilly, it is great cycling country so will appeal to those who come equipped, or who would like to hire bicycles from us for a small fee.
  • I recommend Moira without hesitation, very good hospitality and confort !

  • The campervan was a big adventure for our two small kids aged 3 and 5. It is good that there is a kitchen which we used in the evenings after our trips. The location is good for visiting Kanturk Castle or the donkey sanctuary near Mallow.

West Cork is wild and wonderful and the house belongs here, set in an acre that few know is there! A partially renovated farmhouse with its original features, it is an ideal place to explore the many scenic and very special places nearby. All are welcome - pets too!
The farmhouse really is rural and peaceful, other than the boat in the front ( which is planted)and a little rock garden the rest is natural. Meaning, Wild primroses, daffodils,Fox gloves, and lots of nettles and brambles.
All amenities you might need such as supermarkets, bars, wonderful food, shops and even a launderette can be found in Skibbereen - a charming little town which seems not have changed much in all the years. However, its galleries and museums which are definitely worth a visit, reveal the terrible past events which left their mark on so much of this tragic and beautiful land. There are plethora amazing walks of all different lengths within a 20 mile radius. The scenic town of Bantry is close by and certainly the big house is not to be missed.

  • We felt so comfortable in 'The Barn', because Annette created a cosy and warm atmosphere in it. From the first day on and during the entire two weeks of our stay, we felt being 'at home' and appreciated the perfect interior of every single room. Annettes hospitality is lovely, we enjoyed the tasty regional food she offered to us in the welcome basket, and are grateful for the great tips and the nice talks we had together. We closed Ireland, with its marvellous nature, its friendly people and its tranquility into our hearts - we will certainly come back to the County Cork and if possible to 'The Barn'.

    Saskia2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Annette was an exceptional host who went above and beyond to make our stay in her lovely barn as enjoyable as possible. A welcome basket along with a cosy fire was waiting for us when we arrived. A welcomed treat after a long journey. The space is really clean and has all the things you would need to make the barn a home away from home. Annette was very quick to respond with any queries and provided a wealth of local knowledge to make our stay the best it could be. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return again in the future.

    Stephanie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This property was amazing! It had everything you could need and the host goes above an beyond. The location was idyllic and perfect for if you want to cosy up somewhere with your partner whilst still being close enough to explore. Annette is always on hand to help out with anything but never imposes. The property itself is gorgeous, it’s a proper little home from home with everything you could need, even your own gated entrance so you can come and go as you please. The host added extra personalised details also; my husband and I are vegan so we were gifted a vegan local produce basket which was adorable. Everything in this little barn is eco friendly also which is a huge tick for us. It’s lovely when you can stay with like minded people.

    Abi2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay, close to Clonakilty and in gorgeous scenery. Annette has created a beautiful little house, which is so well designed and kitted out with everything you could need- including a fabulous kitchen and cosy log burning stove in the lounge. It is very quiet, ideal for relaxing, great walks and exploring the West Cork coast and countryside. Thanks so much Annette- it was a brilliant holiday.

    Kate2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best places we have ever stayed at. Annette was such a welcomeling host and the cottage was lovely. We could not have asked for more! If we could rate this place more than five stars we would.

  • I had such a wonderful stay at ‘The Barn’. Everything was exactly how I wanted it to be for my solo getaway after the madness of Christmas! It was the perfect place to relax and unwind and such a treat to hear nothing but silence! The location is great - rural enough to benefit from the peace and quiet, but only a 10 minute drive into the gorgeous town of Clonakilty. The Barn has all the mod cons you need and there was a lovely basket of local produce in the fridge when I arrived. Another fabulous touch are the homemade frozen meals left in the freezer for guests to enjoy, which I did very much! Thank you Annette & Nick for your wonderful hospitality and for making my stay so comfortable and relaxing. I shall be back!

    Caroline2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t have asked for more. Annette is a wonderful considerate host with a great attention to detail. We enjoyed beautiful west Cork and felt very much at home in ‘the Barn’.

  • So peaceful and green and quiet. With everything we could need to self-cater, dream, rest, create and write, fresh water from the well and a private green space through the big windows at the back which is a brilliant idea. We had great fun playing table tennis, walking and just hanging out but we were also near Bantry and Organico for excellent, healthy lunches and food shops, rspecially organic wine and a short drive to Glengarrif for woodland walks and boat trips. The coffee is excellent in nearby Mannions.

We love our home - it's bright, clean, comfortable and relaxed. We often light the fire in colder weather. We love to meet people from different cultures :-)
We have an extra air mattress if more people are travelling - please let us know what you need :-)
Guests have access to the garden. You can enjoy a country walk and the stunning scenery all around our area. There's a lake about 2 miles away. Our local town, Dunmanway (3 miles away) has a pitch & putt course and swimming pool with sauna and steam room, and we're less than 30 minutes from other beautiful towns, artisan country markets, beaches, and walking & hiking routes. We're located on The Wild Atlantic Way. You can also find some fishing spots nearby.
  • Five stars all the way! Dorothy is a brilliant host. We loved our stay with her.

  • Dorothy is a true gem, and staying with her deserves much more than a 10/10. She is friendly and kind, has a lovely home that is welcoming and located in a beautiful area, and offers local tips and divine homemade treats. I loved staying with her and would highly recommend!

  • Lovely accomodation amoungst the cows in a fantastic rural setting. Definitely need a car to locate as it can be a little hard to find. Fireplace, comfy lounge. Scones and jam/marmalade for breakfast and a warm comfortable bed. Shower had excellent pressure. Dorothy is a very welcoming, accomodating host and is very proud of her home (which her sons built for her). Worth a night or more to explore the area and experience Irish country living

    Keith2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Dorothy made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Her hospitality and friendlyness are outstanding. She was very open and we had very nice conversations about close to everything. Also our little daughter was also welcomed in a heartwarming manner. Thanks again Dorothy for the lovely time.

  • We can highly recommend this accommodation! :-)

    Bettina2019-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Dorothy is the most generous hostess we have met on our trip to Ireland. She made us feel at home and her homemade scones were to die for. I would recommend using her place but do not necessarily rely on the directions on the Air BnB site. It put us several km away. But the hunt for the place is worth it.

    Mike2019-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved my short stay with Dorothy. So welcoming and kind. Made me feel very at home and was always looking to help in any way she could, whether it be a cup of tea or suggestions on local places to see. It was like visiting a family member. And her dog, Rya, is a beautiful little bundle of joy.

    Richard2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • A splendid stay in the beauty and silence of county Cork countryside, with a host who is a wonderful person. Can I say anything more? The accommodation was perfect, nothing was lacking, and enjoying Dorothy's breakfast scones while watching the birds feeding in the garden was that added touch of perfection! Deep thanks.

Stylish Guest Suite nestled in the West Cork countryside, within walking distance to local shop and pub, surrounded by local walks and hiking trails. Kealkill is an ideal location to base yourself when exploring both the West Cork and Kerry regions. The village of Kealkill is less than 10mins drive from the main Wild Atlantic Way route between Cork & Kerry in the Southwest of Ireland. Gouganne Barra is 15mins drive, 10KM to Bantry and close to the Sheeps Head Way.
The Guest Suite is a self contained unit separate from my home. It is open plan with double doors opening onto an outdoor space and lawn. All essentials are present to ensure your stay is comfortable, cosy and relaxing. Entrance to Kealkill Park is less than 50m, local pub within 500m and local shop less than 1km. Bed large enough but one has to climb over the partner for loo visits as it's a bit tight fitting. Local supermarket very well stocked in Bantry and also a shop in Kealkill.

Kestrel Cottage and Curlew Cottage are situated on a beautiful one acre field, with, glimpses of the mountains towards Killarney and on the doorstep of West Cork, close to the tiny village of Tarelton. The city of Cork is an easy commute away. Both cottages have been our family home for many years. Each independent of the other, cozy in the winter and sunny and spectacular in the summer. The family live in Curlew Cottage and we would like to welcome guests to Kestrel Cottage.
Kestrel Cottage has an entrance hall, separate bedroom with 2 single beds, an additional guest bed, living room, fully equipped kitchen come dining room and separate utility room. From the windows there are views out into the fields and country side. To the front of the cottage there is a pleasant garden and to the back stretching down to the edge of the field. The cottage is a pleasant place to spend time, and there, are places to sit in the garden. Once the evenings are clear and the weather fine, evenings can be a time to sit outside too. The starry night skies are beautiful (no street lights here) and one interpretation for Tarelton is "The Land of the Stars"
Tarelton village is a 5/10 minutes stroll from Kestrel Cottage. A small grocery shop, post office, bar all rolled into one is the central feature. The bar serves a good pint of Guinness and one can buy the ingredients for an Irish breakfast including the famous Clonakilty black pudding and soda bread made locally. Macroom is a busy small town 15 minute car drive away. There are pleasant walks from the cottage with lovely views to be found. The Gearagh Nature Reserve, 5 minutes by car provides of road walking. Gougane Barra, 1/2 an hour away, is suitable for easy walking or the more demanding Gougane Barra Ridge. About an hours drive away from Kestrel Cottage are ferry crossing points to the West Cork Islands of Sherkin, Cape Clear and Heir. Each island has its own character with lovely walks and coastal scenery, and a pace of life which may not be found on the mainland. Fastnet Lighthouse(most south westerly point) not accessible by foot but by ferry for those who find there sea legs. Killarney offers opportunity for walking from the National Park, to the highest point in Ireland Carrauntuohill. The lakes themselves are beautiful with fly fishing from 15 February to 12 October. Weekly markets are held in many of the towns, the biggest being the permanent, indoor market with its large fish hall in Cork city.
  • We couldn't have been "stuck" at a more fantastic place during the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. The cottage is quiet and cosy and it has all the amenities needed for a long term stay. You will never grow tired of the beautiful setting. Even with social distancing measures, Eoin and Libby were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. It is convenient to Macroom where there are plenty of grocery stores and shops. We will definitely return as it is a great base location to explore the beauty of the Southwest of Ireland when restrictions are lifted. Very highly recommend!

    Ana2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • It's a wonderful cottage in what seems to be the middle of nowhere, but it's only a short beautiful drive to town. There were a lot of personal touches which went the extra mile. It's a pretty centralized location to be able to visit various cities. The roads to get to the cottage are narrow, but there was little traffic so it was hardly a worry. Google maps gave directions to the cottage without issue with the address we were given, so we were never lost, as the roads in the area are a bit confusing.

  • Lovely and cozy cottage in top condition with the friendly hosts Eoin and Libby and regional food for brakefast. It's a great base to take daytrips by car to cork, the south- and westcoast.

Double room ensuite located in a family home 5kms from Killarney town centre. We are on the edge of the National Park and close to Muckross House & Gardens. Ideal location for exploring the Park and the many beautiful areas around Killarney such as Torc Mountain , Muckross Abbey , Dinis Cottage , Ross Castle and many more. Also we are close to the Gleneagle Hotel and the INEC concert venue.
  • Sheila is very friendly and helpful. She should renew the pictures of her accommodation as this is much nicer or more rustic than they look on the pictures ... Our room went out on a cow pasture which looked very nice. In addition to the room which one inhabits (and even every day gets fresh towels) is a small living room and a dining room (small fridge, toaster and a few tea varieties) you can Sheila also ask if you for the next day a little bread and Jam (but we did not use it .. still get a slice of raisin bread xD). But breakfast is not included in the price. The entrance to the mentioned areas is separate from their area and in our room was also a small bathroom with shower. In the city you need by car about ten minutes ... If you take a taxi (because you want in a pub and want to drink something = P) you pay around 13/14 Euro. The small town offers shopping (food), a few restaurants and pubs. It is not far from the killarney National Park.

  • It's nice and quiet. In 10 minutes you can drive to the center by car. Sheila helps you when you need it. For me everything was fine.

  • Sheila’s place is very conveniently located about 10 minutes away from the Killarney national park. The room itself was very cozy and sparking clean. Very thoughtful with how the place is organized. There is a dining room with microwave, mini fridge and a place to make coffee/tea plus snacks. I really enjoyed the stay, and I would definitely recommend.
