  • Cracking spot, Danny and Pauline really went above and beyond for us - everything was perfect and you could tell they really put their heart and soul into the place. Can't recommend highly enough!

  • Brilliant location seated nicely in the Scottish Borders! We visited during the storm of the year and we were nice and cosy in the hot tub out of the rain on the Saturday night, it made it all the more special somehow! The whole accommodation is fantastically clean with easy access and trouble free parking. Would strongly recommend! Lovely family hosting us too! With plenty of recommendations and thoughtful touches.

  • Such a lovely apartment for a weekend away to just chill and relax! The hot tub is a fabulous bonus to relax in after walks in the beautiful surround hill areas. Lovely hosts and just a perfect stay, will for sure be booking again!

  • We had an amazing stay, great weekend to relax and unwind. Comfy bed, wood fire and the hot tub. Danny and Pauline were very welcoming, thanks guys for having us.

  • Had a brilliant weekend stay, the small thoughtful touches were much appreciated. Plenty to do if you want to have a more active weekend or good to also just have a quiet weekend in the hot tub. Friendly hosts and made to feel at home.

  • This is the second time we have stayed at the apartment and it was just as amazing as the first time and would defo book again in the future and highly recommend to anyone as a perfect stay a slice of heaven away from home just perfect .

  • Danny and Pauline’s place is a little slice of heaven nestled within the hills of Innerleithen. It’s the perfect apartment to stay at if you’re looking for somewhere to unwind and relax, which is exactly what we needed. From the twinkly fairy lights and Birthday banner, to the jam, milk and butter in the fridge (and Prosecco, the most important amenity of course), there were so many thoughtful, little touches that Danny and Pauline included in our stay. The hot tub and log fire were what attracted me to this apartment initially, and although they were brilliant, it was the friendliness and warmth of the hosts that made this trip as lovely as it was. A special mention to Pauline’s Mum (sorry if I’ve got that wrong!). She was an absolute gem, making sure we had matches and logs for the fire, as well as advising us on some fabulous walks. We would definitely stay here again and 100% recommend the apartment to our friends. Thanks again, Rach and Danny.

  • We had a fantastic stay over Christmas at the apartment. It was everything we could have wished for. The hospitality from the hosts was amazing with thoughtful gestures throughout our stay that made us feel so welcome. The hot tub, log burner and sky TV allowed us to really relax in style. Kitchen well equipped to cook a full Christmas dinner!

Girnwood Holiday Cottage is a spacious detached cottage with great views. A peaceful relaxing cosy break awaits, perfect for walking, wildlife watching or just switching off and doing nothing. Pets welcome. Please note we are 10 miles from the nearest amenities. https://www.airbnb.co.uk/manage-lis
Girnwood Holiday Cottage is a spacious, detached, self catering cottage with great views. It has had some modern improvements but the kitchen and bathroom are simple in style. Bedrooms are comfortable. We are 10 miles from the Borders Woolen Mill town of Hawick . It takes 20minutes but feels like twice as far the first time you come. It is single track and narrow roads with passing places which are challenging for some to drive with confidence. Take care as timber lorries use these roads and can be going quite fast. After more than 5 years of potholes and damage to the council road up to the farm a full reconstruction has now finished and it is smooth tarmac again. However the last 300m of farm track into the cottage is still quite rough and it is recomended to drive slowly with care. The extensive views are of unspoilt border hills but you are close to the farmhouse where the owners live and work should you require any assistance. There is no wifi and very limited phone signal. Access to internet can be arranged at the farmhouse. But in the Scottish Borders we call it 'super slow narrow band!!'
Girnwood is a small hill farm with 550 cheviot ewes, with a further 120 young female sheep to join the flock for the future. In spring and summer over 600 lambs will be running with their mothers on the hills and fields surrounding the cottage. There are 45 Galloway and Luing cows and an Aberdeen Angus Bull. They calve in April and May. At certain times of year there will be lambs and calves to see and haymaking in the summer. But do be aware that this means that it is always sensible not to walk in the field where you see cattle as they can be agressive with young calves. Or if you are out on the hill just give them plenty of space . My 2 horses are usually in the field in front of the cottage. They like apples and carrots, but please do not feed them bread. Pets (dogs, cats, parrots, ferrets etc) are always welcome but must be on a lead when out walking but are safe to run free in the enclosed garden. Scotland promotes access for all to the countryside so you are free to walk cycle or ride anywhere.
  • Great place to get away for a relaxing holiday! Beautiful views (we loved waking up to sheep surrounding the cottage) and great hospitality! Would definitely recommend.

    Veronica2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other. My wife, kids and I stayed with Jenny, who made us so welcome, for a few days during Storm Dennis. Even during the super high winds and wet weather, the cottage was as cozy and warm as anyone would want. Beautiful secluded views, exactly as described, and plenty of local walks to enjoy. Come prepared with food and drink, follow Jenny’s directions to find the place simply, and you’ll have an amazing time. Couldn’t recommend more highly!

    Gary2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Secluded and private, this surprisingly easy to get to cottage literally helps you escape the hustle and bustle of technology-busy life. Upon arrival, the venue is unlocked, warm, welcoming and easy to get orientated within. The wood burner is stacked, ready to reinforce that already amazing feeling of being in the countryside. The views are superb (hills, trees and sheep) and despite this cottage being on the periphery of a farm - you can’t actually see the farm house from the private cottage unless you hang out of a window. Bring food and drink - everything else is provided. This cottage oozes being well used and re-visited. It’s creaky, worn in places and truly shabby chique. This is no way a criticism - in fact, it’s what I would happily pay for when returning in the future (and we will be returning). Having stayed in various countryside cottages previously, I expected to be cold - I can assure you that you’ll be comfy, cozy and never in need of a dressing gown! We brought our jack russell dogs on our trip. There are numerous trails to walk them on, and the Host has conveniently added details of all trails / adventures in an information booklet. In terms of Host flexibility - on the morning we were due to arrive, we woke to a message from Jennifer highlighting a yellow weather warning (storm) and offering us alternative dates if this was needed. Whilst we braved the storm, we were incredibly impressed at how considerate and guest-focussed Jennifer is. An excellent escape for the weekend. We look forward to returning.

  • A cosy, welcoming cottage in a fantastic location! The road in through the mini wood makes you feel like you’re arriving at a special, secret place, and what a gem it is. Stunning views (sunrises and sunsets right from your bedroom window); friendly, inquisitive horses in the next field; and a huge, secure garden which our dog absolutely loved (the wee copse of trees made for great sniffing and exploring). Cottage was clean and spacious; the king-sized bed in the master bedroom was SUPER comfortable; lots of walks right from doorstep. Jennifer was very friendly, welcoming, and prompt in responding. Thank you very much again for a wonderful weekend!

  • We had a brilliant visit the cottage was perfect, very cosy and had everything we needed for a few days away. Will definitely be back.

    Jill2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is sparkling clean with stunning views and scenery. Had met the host before so check in/out was pleasant. The open fire is a nice touch, especially during typical scottish weather!! Great place to go to completely unwind and relax. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will no doubt be back again.

    Kirstie2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place was lovely. Very spacious, comfortable, had everything you could need and in a lovely location (quiet and rural, but only 20 mins from the nearest town with plenty of shops). We found it was perfect for dark skies and even managed to get some milky way shots. The views all around the cottage are amazing. Jennifer was a great host, gave us our privacy, but was on hand for any queries. She even took the time out of her day to show us around the farm (which the kids loved). Would definitely return.

    Kimberly2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is a perfect quiet getaway for friends or a family. In beautiful countryside location with an enclosed garden it’s a brilliant place and a house that felt much bigger than I was expecting. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if we were coming to the area.

Accepting bookings ONLY for COVID-19 NHS & accommodation emergencies. Perhaps the most ideal holiday cottage in the whole of the Scottish Borders. Situated in a perfect location with one foot close to the hustle and bustle of the heritage town of Hawick and the other with unbridled access to the beautiful Wilton Lodge Park. Entrance Lodge overlooks the Teviot river, with steps right outside the front door to the water's edge where little ones can go feed the ducks.
Entrance Lodge is a gatehouse to one of Scotland's best public parks. Built in 1860 you will be staying in the home of the former gatekeeper to the Wilton mansion house which is now a stunning museum within the park grounds.
Hawick is the jewel in the crown of the Scottish Borders
  • Nice wee house in a lovely setting, would thoroughly recommend a stay here

  • The house if beautiful and very pleasant to live in. Cosy and comfortable, with every thing you need. Sam was helpful and made our stay stress free. Would 100% recommend.

    Eliane2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect Airbnb - this lodge is not only HUGE, but also super clean and cozy. You can go to sleep with the sounds of the river rushing past - and it's located right next to a lovely river walk. Sam was incredibly responsive and the check in process was super easy. It included a car parking spot as well which was great. Couldn't recommend highly enough, you won't regret staying in this beautiful piece of history!

Meadshaw farmhouse apartment is set on the edge of the remote Meadshaw Forest, a short drive up a good forest track. Plenty of parking, secluded walks from the door, peaceful, starry skies, views across the valley towards the river, and a log stove to relax in front of. Private entrance, high standards of cleaning, very easy to social distance here. We are looking forward to welcoming guests back again!
The guest suite is part of the main farmhouse, with its own entrance, garden, en-suite double bedroom, sitting room (with log burning stove), TV, DVD's, books and wi-fi. Logs are free of charge. We provide a simple selection of cereals, fresh fruit, milk and tea/coffee for you to help yourself. There are lovely well marked walks from your door, and we provide maps and directions if you want . There are uninterrupted views to the garden, river and hills from your windows. There are lots of books and board games for your use. A BBQ is provided in the summer months, but please note there is no kitchen or oven. The nearest pubs/restaurants are 8.5 miles and we are happy to make recommendations.
The area is unique in that it is an undiscovered "gem".....you will have the place virtually to yourself. There are lots of walks and cycle paths to explore. This is also a haven for wildlife, including red squirrel, otter, deer, badger, woodpecker, nuthatch, curlew, siskin etc. The farmhouse looks out onto beautiful "wild" Scottish Borders hills, and is nestled on the edge of Meadshaw Forest. The farmhouse is very much off the beaten track - there is no mobile phone signal, no traffic/road noise and the stars are amazing on a clear night!
  • Lovely Hosts. Very clean and welcoming. Amazing views with lovely walks. Perfect for quiet getaway.

    Josh2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing. The location on a dead-end country road means it's very secluded with beautiful views and peaceful forest walks where you'll barely see another person. That being said, the short drive up to St Mary's Loch and the Grey Mare's Nature Trail was easy, so also a good base to explore the Borders more widely. Hawick is an 8 mile drive for amenities and the drive down from Edinburgh was very easy and scenic. Bill was a fantastic host (Daniele was away) who was very friendly and helpful, but largely left us alone to enjoy the solitude of the beautiful surrounding. He had gotten a fire ready for our arrival and dropped off more firewood during the weekend as he was worried we would get cold. The log fire was actually extremely cosy and we weren't cold at all. The selection of tea/coffee/biscuits and cereals was great as well, as were the wide selection of maps, guides and informative notes/recommendations. I would not hesitate to recommend this place for a peaceful escape to the countryside.

    Nick2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place, when we arrived there was a fire burning ready for us and it was spotlessly clean and cosy. We loved having the huge woodland on our doorstep with miles and miles of walks for us and our pup Angus. We were sad to leave!

    Lynsey2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Daniele and Bill went out of their way to make my weekend a relaxing one. It was lovely to watch the birds from the dining table.

    Sian2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very welcome, although we only stayed 2 nights. A hidden treasure for everybody who is looking for a remote holiday cottage.

    Jasmijn2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a charming little cottage. Daniele was lovely and very helpful - particularly in providing some great recommendations for local walks and places to visit.

    Martin2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing anniversary weekend away at Daniele and Bill’s farmhouse. Beautiful location, stunning views and a relaxing log fire to chill by after a days exploring 😊

    Bethany2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay. Peaceful and remote with fantastic walks in the area as well as beautiful abbeys and historic monuments nearby. Daniele and Bill were lovely, great to chat to and providing us with everything we needed. Highly recommended.

The hosts were one of the most wonderful people that lives in this country. They always made sure I had everything i needed, whetever it was firewood, coffee, places to take my daily walk or just good company. It was with heavy heart I left the cottage and the lovely people that lived close by. I would highly recommend everyone who feel the need to get away from the hectic life in the city to take a few days in Mary and Andys wonderful cottage. Bless them

A light and airy spacious timber cabin built 5 years ago. It is in a very quiet location amid the fields and woods of our farm, situated in the garden of my house, once the residence of the Head Gardener for the 1000 acre Whitmuir Estate. It is situated off a private road which leads only to the farm and cottages. Cooking facilities are microwave, mini-cooker with two rings, frig and sink. Beds will be made up as king size double unless two singles requested prior to arrival. Pets are welcome.
The situation is good for those travelling on either of the two north-south main roads - A7 and A68, as the house is between these two main roads, and 5 - 10 minutes from each. The location of the Cabin is perfect for guests with pets, miles of dog walking country from the door. We have a private loch just 200m from here which is an SSSI. Golf course 2 miles away
All the adjacent properties were once part of the family estate, but the Whitmuir hamlet now has a few new houses, and self-catering properties. Surrounded by woods and fields with a good variety of birds and wildlife it is very peaceful, yet only 5 minutes from Selkirk . Other nearby towns are Melrose, St Boswells, Galashiels Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh - all within less than half an hour's drive.

  • If you are looking for a break away from it all in beautiful surroundings and sample life in the Scottish Borders to meet the local people with the only sound in the background being from birds, sheep, cows and horses but have a pub just across the road; this is the perfect location. The mobile home has everything you could want for a holiday break and is set in own space within a courtyard next to stables separating it from the main house and even has it’s own little private patio area with table and chairs to relax and take in the surrounding countryside. The people of the Scottish Borders are renowned for their warm friendly hospitality and our hosts Anne and her husband George are a perfect example of this. They made us feel at home from the moment we arrived and were there when we needed anything but gave us all the space we needed to feel just like we were staying at our very own private holiday home with no one else around. Looking forward to our next trip to the Scottish Borders especially now that we have found the perfect place to stay.

Ettrickbridge sits within beautiful scenery in the heart of the Scottish Borders. We have excellent walking and cycling on our doorstep. More information on the area can be obtained from The Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys website. We have lots of information and guides in the property and OS maps of the whole area.
  • The Barn is set in tranquil surroundings and has everything you could possibly need for a party of four adults and a dog. The Barn was lovely, clean and homely. Sarah was very welcoming and left us thoughtful welcoming gifts; freshly made bread, lemon cake, milk, butter, eggs from the chickens in the garden and even some treats for Rusty. The village pub is dog friendly and we enjoyed traditional pub food by the roaring fire. Sarah recommended places to walk, explore and visit. We really enjoyed our stay at the Barn and will definetly be back to explore this beautiful part of Scotland.

  • Fabulous place. The small touches make all the difference; home baked lemon drizzle cake and loaf and redcurrant gin waiting for you on arrival. Brilliantly equipped accommodation; maps and walking guide books, games, towels, kitchen with everything you need. Fresh eggs from the chickens that roam free. Coffee and a selection of useful staples like oil, salt and pepper together with a little jug of milk and water pat of butter to tide you over. Location is beautiful. The hosts, Sarah and Jeremy are super friendly and helpful and the village pub is great. There is not one negative that I could add and I plan to return soon.

  • The barn was truly amazing, so clean and comfortable, home from home, everything had been thought out and would be perfect for couples or families, this accomodation was to a very high standard.

  • High standard, well equipped accommodation, with some lovely personal touches. Very friendly hosts, who made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended!

  • This was actually a present for my parents, they both loved it. This is their message: 'Rooms were perfect, very clean, well equipped and warm. Lovely views of the hills from the windows. Also a very nice welcome pack of a fresh loaf, ground coffee, eggs, milk, butter etc. The area itself is very beautiful'. They are both thinking of going back, and Sarah was really easy to communicate with and also kindly posted us a shirt that had been forgotten. So thank you!

  • Had a really comfortable and enjoyable stay at Lois' house. The house is warm, spacious and well equipped with almost instant hot water for the private shower; the room was comfortable - good mattress, generous bedding and all the storage etc. you could want. As a host Lois was welcoming and hospitable, a good conversationalist. I'd recommend this room as a base to explore the borders.

  • This is what I consider to be exemplary accommodation. Offers just what is needed -clean, quiet, safe and warm accommodation. The price is fair - something on the verge of extinction in many parts of the UK.

    Elsa2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed a very comfortable couple of nights here as it was conveniently located for the tour of the borders cycling event in Peebles. Access from Edinburgh by bus was easy, even with a bike (our host Lois was very helpful in arranging this) and the location is beautiful. Rooms were very comfortable and Lois is a lovely and welcoming host with nice touches provided like tea and coffee facilities in the room. Highly recommend a stay here.

In the heart of the Scottish Borders and nestled close to the market square in The Royal and Ancient Burgh of Selkirk, the apartment makes a great place to spend a few days or extended break while exploring this fabulous and intriguing part of Scotland. Selkirk itself has a fascinating history going back to William Wallace and more recently links with Sir Walter Scott.
Guest Comments 'This is a beautifully decorated flat and my daughter and I felt very comfortable staying here. We stayed here in February and needed to put on the heating. Luckily the owners had left very clear instructions how everything worked and it didn't take long before the flat was lovely and warm. The kitchen and living room are both spacious rooms and the beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable - beautiful bed linen from MS and a supply of fluffy towels. In the kitchen there is also a washing machine. Just off the kitchen is a separate dining room. The living room has a TV, DVD player and a record-player with an assortment of LPs! If you're looking for a holiday in the Scottish Borders, Selkirk is a lovely Borders town and I can recommend this property. ' Ms Wierzoch Accommodation for three over 2 floors: Double bedroom; Single attic bedroom; Sitting room; Kitchen; Dining Room; Cloakroom; Shower room Services: Electricity Heating Inc * Linen Towels provided * Fridge/Freezer * Washing Machine * Air drier * TV with DVD player * CD player * WIFI* Travel Cot * Pets welcome * On street parking in Market place (short stroll from the property) Extras: Pets £20/pet/week Pets information: Pets are allowed at this property by prior arrangement only. The other Borders Towns are close by including Galashiels, Hawick, Melrose and Jedburgh, while Edinburgh itself is only a 40 minute drive or pleasant train ride on the recently reopened Borders Railway. Montrose House is so called because the Earl and Marquis of Montrose stayed here just before the Battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. He was known to be a brave and proven General but was nonetheless heavily defeated with huge loss of life, although he himself survived. There is a commemorative plaque of his stay on the wall of the apartment. The nearby Philiphaugh Estate has various trails and riverside footpaths along the Ettrick Water. One of the trails leads to the battlefield so you can imagine the scene of 5,500 men in the desperate struggle between the Covenanters and Royalists. The Estate offers more peaceful attractions as well which include a nice tearoom close to the Salmon Viewing Centre Sir Walter Scott best known as a writer, also served as Sheriff for 33 years and his legal connections should not be forgotten. The court house that he presided over is open to the public and only a short walk from the apartment and main town square. Walter Scott's life and times can be further explored at nearby Abbotsford house. The beautiful stately home of Bowhill House is not to be missed, only 3 miles from the town. The house is set in superb grounds with access to woodland walks to suit all and younger generations will have a whale of a time enjoying organised orienteering package and amazing adventure playground- ideal for children of any age and big kids too! The wonderful Borders scenery provides a super backdrop to lots of outdoor pursuits including golf, mountain biking, fishing on renowned rivers and lochs or following peaceful footpaths through the countryside. Created next to our wood drying store, hidden away down a private track, this unique and peaceful retreat is nestled on the edge of Meadshaw and Craik Forests. Great if you want a tranquil escape from the world, for walkers, mountain/road bikers nature lovers and explorers. Equipped with small k and separate "civilised" composting loo, a peaceful glamping experience awaits. No wifi/phone signal.
The Wren's Nest has the best views ever! Outside space - The Nest has an open fronted area, with table and chairs where you can eat or just relax with uninterrupted views of the river, hills and sky. There's also a small paddock with mown area for sitting out during the warmer months and enjoying views to the river and hills. Sleeping - The Nest sleeps 2 in adult size camping bunks, as shown in the pictures. If there are more than 2, you may bring a tent (we have electric hook up) for a small charge. Please ask when booking. Swimming - A stroll across our fields will take you down to the river, the Borthwick Water, where there's a private wild swimming spot, and mown riverside area to sit. Fire Pit - One small box of dry firewood and kindling is provided for the fire pit, free of charge. Further seasoned wood may be purchased for £5.00 per box when you are here. BBQ - Please bring charcoal if you wish to use the BBQ, or we can provide a bag at cost price. Parking - Available nearby on the forest track. Parking next to the Wren's Nest in 4x4. The smallholding - Just let us know you are interested, and we will be pleased to show you around Meadshaw Farm, our Scottish Borders small holding, where we keep hebridean sheep, connemara ponies, hens and ducks. We grow vegetables and fruit, and are happy to show you around our modest garden, which is a work in progress. We also have 2 small, friendly border terriers and a cat. Dogs - Although we are animal lovers, we regret that we don't accept dogs in the The Wren's Nest, due to the size of this space. Eco Features - The Wren's Nest has been designed with good insulation and heating. It sits snugly at the end of a steep, rough private track, next to the farm's wood store, which supplies the farm's eco boiler. Composting Loo - Our Eco Loo is a unique design. It is in it's own room with lighting/fan. It is not smelly and does not involve a walk away from the Nest to get to it! Shower - Walk in hot shower - note that due to low water pressure, our spring water shower is fine for a wash, but is NOT a power shower by any means! Drinking water - Bring a bottle to take some away - you will enjoy lovely fresh spring water from our local spring. Nearest Town - The Wren's Nest is 9 miles from the Scottish Borders woollen mill town of Hawick, which has an award winning park and walled garden. The Borders Abbey towns of Jedburgh, Melrose and Kelso are within reach by car, as well as some stunning castles and tower houses such as Hermitage, Fatlips and Kirkhope. Walking and mountain biking/road biking - This area has hills, rivers, lochs, forest tracks and very little traffic on narrow country roads. It is pretty much "undiscovered". We can provide lots of information on where to walk, places to visit and the best cycle routes. Relax - Just come and relax - whatever the weather you will be snug and dry in the Wren's Nest, and in the evening, you can sit outside in the covered area to enjoy the evening scents and sounds, or to listen to the patter of rain on the tin roof.
This place is special due to the forest walks, hill walking, mountain and road biking, peace and tranquility. The only things you will hear are the wind in the trees, the wild birds and the sheep....
  • Incredible location and a cozy little lodge, would definitely recommend!

  • What a lovely retreat. Set in fantastic surroundings with stunning views, the Wren's Nest is a fabulous self contained and cosy hut. It had everything we needed for a comfortable couple of days of much needed R&R. Daniele was very welcoming and helpful and the special touches and little treats were much appreciated.

    Wendy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A great little hide away. Daniele was very warm and welcoming upon arrival, impressive given that she was in the midst of tending to her small holding on the pouring rain. You couldn't ask for more from the space either. Every little thing had been thought out from tea and coffee to a bird feeder placed within sight to provide some natural entertainment. The covered outdoor area is great for ensuring the inside space stays warm, tidy and clean, great for walkers. The cabin was cosy, a great little reading spot. Perfect place for a practical weekend as well as a romantic getaway. Will have to go back at a sunnier time of year.

  • A fabulous location out in the wilds to get back to nature.

    Daniel2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot fault the Wrens nest! We had a wonderful stay! The place was clean and as described. Perfect for a peaceful great away! Daniele was a wonderful host and incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of the local area! Our only regret is not having the time to take in more of the recommended walks!

    Amy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little hut in such a beautiful location, views from the windows are lovely to wake up to! Such quiet and peaceful surroundings. Daniele was really helpful when checking in, showed us how everything worked in the hut and recommended walks and the easiest ways to get into edinburgh. The two dogs and cat were so sweet and came and sat with us while we were making a fire in the fire pit provided. The heating in the hut is really good, we weren’t cold once. All in all very good stay and will definitely be back in the summer when it’s a little warmer and we have more time to explore the area!

    Cleo2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical. The setting has the benefits of both forest and open views, and the space is so well thought out (and looks even better and feels a bit bigger than the photos!) Loved the contrast between the indoor and outdoor spaces, and the extra touches like the fire pit and wool throws on the beds. Was only there 2 nights, but felt completely recharged after a couple of days of doing things like lying on the top bunk to watch the sunrise and sunset, having food and drinks outside (south-facing covered outdoor area, and also table and chairs with river view at the front of the building), strolls in the forest and along the river bank, stargazing, reading in the cute indoor sitting nook. Even rather enjoyed the compost loo! - it just felt part of the place’s character. The camping bunk was surprisingly comfortable, but prob wouldn’t suit someone of very large build, or for more than a few nights. The heater was really efficient and the space was perfectly cosy despite nighttime drop in outside temperature. A special, creative, nurturing place.

A remote cottage in the heart of a working forest. Nestled in a clearing 3.5 miles along a track, our Byre is an great place for those wishing to get away from the hustle of modern life; no wifi, mobile phone signal or TV. A great location hidden midway between the Ettrick and Borthwick valleys ideal for cycling, walking and watching the wildlife. With the Forestry Commission as our only neighbours we are creating our own 3 acre smallholding and are happy to welcome interested travellers.
We have a renovated shepherd's cottage in the middle of Craik Forest. We own a 3+ acre clearing in the working forest 3.5 miles from any neighbour. We are remote with no mobile signal, television nor wifi but are truly peaceful. Set on the edge of the Southern Uplands in the Scottish Borders, hills, lochs, cycling and walking abound. We feel very privileged to live here. The Byre is a self-contained conversion attached to our home. The double bed is set on a mezzanine overlooking the double height living area. Curl up and read in front of the log fire, use the board games, playing cards or maybe a jigsaw puzzle that are on the side. Two sets of French doors open onto the south facing terrace for when the weather is beautiful. On a clear night the stars are breathtaking as there is no light pollution as too is the Aurora Borealis which can be seen from the back of the house when the conditions are favourable. Deer, red squirrels, badgers and even a flock of feral sheep wander the forest. The birds are varied and numerous from Osprey to the tiny goldcrest and of course the owls at night. The wild raspberries and blaeberries are tiny but delicious when in season as are the red and blackcurrants and rhubarb which we grow in the garden. I try to grow some vegetables but being at 1100 feet and fairly exposed I am still learning which ones will survive. The garden is an evolving project with natural wild flowers as well as cultivated. Each season is a delight. Trout and Salmon can be seen in the two burns edging the property (though no fishing is allowed). We do swim in the Rankle Burn whilst the Ropelaw is more of a tumbling burn. We truly are remote here so personal transport is important. The nearest shop is 16 miles away in Hawick but Sainsbury do deliver here. Colin our friendly postman will collect mail as well as deliver any post. You would need to be an independent person and happy to be in an remote spot.
Although we're miles from anywhere, we are next to everywhere outdoors: Glentress, one of the 7-Stanes, is on the way to Peebles; The lovely Yarrow Valley, St Mary's Loch and the Grey Mare's Tail are all under an hour's drive away (at sight-seeing speeds). The Tweedbank Railway terminus, near Galashiels, will take you into Edinburgh (and beyond) by rail through some spectacular Borders' countryside.
  • We had a delightful long weekend here. Barbara and Peter are very friendly and it was great to chat to them. The space is amazing withe everything you need for a comfy stay. The weather wasn’t great when we visited at the end of January but we were snug as could be in front of the log burner. The bed was super comfy too. We put our waterproofs on and went on a couple of walks around the area and it was lovely coming back and getting warm in the byre. We could have sat and watched the activity at the bird feeder forever! I heartily recommend a visit here to any nature lovers.

  • We had an absolutely fantastic stay, it was everything promised and more. We were initially slightly worried about finding the house but Barbara’s instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Despite visiting in December, the house was toasty warm the whole time. The shower was great and the bed super comfy too. Barbara and Peter were really welcoming hosts, and we will definitely be back.

  • If you want natural beauty and to be remote then this is a place like no other. The forest walks are like scenes from a fairy tale and it is magical.....shooting stars at night as well. The accomodation is a wonderful place to chill out with stunning views and a cosy log burner. Luxurious bed and a contemporary feel to a converted farm building. An eco holiday with natural spring water and solar power. The host's are so welcoming and very knowledgeable about the forest. They gave us good advice about where to go and what to see while we were there. Thank you Barbara and Peter for sharing your amazing home with us and we will be back for another stay at some point.

  • Clare is a very nice and friendly host. We had the entire topfloor of her house for ourselves so a lot of privacy. The bedroom was very spacious, light (very nice balcony), and comfortable. And we could make use of a fully equiped kitchen! I would definitely recommend this place...

    Charlotte2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Clare was quick to respond, friendly and helpful, though not overbearing. She made us feel completely welcome and at home. Her room offered a wonderfully comfortable bed in a large space, with hotel-like privacy and features (including a private balcony on which we had dinner). I great location too, central to Innerleithen town.

Our garden has squirrels, pheasants and birds all around, with horses just over the wall.

  • Perfect place to stay if you like walking or riding, or just want a quite break. The host was brilliant and very friendly. The bungalow was clean and very well layed out. It was furnished to a high quality and was just a great place to stay with a beautiful view.

  • We couldn’t be happier with our stay or with Alison as a host. The house is so lovely - tucked away in a quiet little area - with beautiful views and endless opportunities for off-road running or hiking from the door - yet close to everything you need. We were greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome. Communication was always prompt, helpful and friendly. This is a great please to stay in a special part of the world.

  • We really enjoyed our week at this spotless, comfortable and modern apartment just 10mins walk to Innerleithen high street. Alison & Bill are really helpful and friendly, and have thought of everything. The garden is ideal for dog owners as it's fully enclosed, and there are plenty of good walks from the doorstep. Surrounded by fields and forest, it's a really quiet and scenic location that's ideal for a relaxing getaway!

School Cottage is located in the picturesque village of Gattonside, a 10 minute walk from the centre of the historic town of Melrose. Ideally situated for sight seeing, walkers, cyclists and people looking to fish the Tweed. You can enjoy the stunning scenery with access to the Eildon hills. A short drive away is Tweedbank where you will find the train station that travels to Edinburgh Waverley. The journey takes about an hour also stopping at other destinations on the way.
The cosy Cottage has an entrance hall which leads into the living room, kitchen and dining area. The living room has a wood burning stove, comfy sofa and tartan chair. The kitchen is well equipped with a dining table. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double the other single along with a recently renovated bathroom.
Gattonside has two award winning restaurants and Melrose several cafes, hotels, restaurants and shops.
  • School Cottage is a delight. A perfectly formed bijou. There’s a lovely walk across the River Tweed to Melrose with many others too. People are friendly too.

    Karen2020-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • The school cottage is a lovely space to relax for a few days. Anne has put a lot of thought into the house and as a result we had everything we needed. The house is warm, the bed is comfortable and there are plenty of towels, blankets, etc. It's only a short walk into Melrose and there are outstanding walks virtually on the doorstep. We often visit the area and would definitely stay here again if it's available, although I expect it will book up quickly.

    Elisa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • School Cottage offers lovely accommodation in beautiful surroundings. For us, Melrose itself didn't offer a great deal as a town though it's a fab base for some great walks. We did enjoy eating out at Burts and Monte Cassino though.

    Susan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely and homely cottage in a lovely location.

    Gavin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Anne’s place was just wonderful. We liked it so much we even wanted to stay for longer, but unsurprisingly it was fully booked! The cottage is a real home from home, with everything you need for a relaxing break. It’s really cosy and stylish, Anne even made sure to put the heating on for us before we arrived (it was a very cold day!).

    Maria2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time during our stay. The cottage was in a great location and we particularly loved the log burning fire. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

    Robert2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet, home away from home while visiting Gattonside, this is the perfect cottage. Anne has thought of everything when setting it up: reliable internet, a Nest system to control the heat so that you’re comfy no matter where you are in the house, a spotless and organized kitchen and bathroom so you don’t feel like you’re searching for basics, and homey decor that just adds to the cottage’s natural charm. Tucked away from the main road, we never once had any issues with noise and I had some of the best sleep while there. Check-in / out was also simple because of Anne’s communication. I would absolutely recommend this space for anyone who’s tired of hotels and wants the simple pleasures of feeling at home.

The place has everything you need for a few days away, though if you have a pet be warned that there is no rear entrance leading straight to the garden. The surrounding area is breathtaking. Great cycle tracks, roads, and forests to explore. The nearby town of Peebles had some outstanding food to offer too. I'd come back again! Would definitely recommend this place.

The bike storage felt really secure, the shower was super powerful (ideal for washing off all the mud after biking!) and lovely that it was dog friendly too so we were able to bring along the pooch! Would definitely stay here again if we come back up and absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a base in the area.

Quirky, cosy, Nordiq styled modern one double bedroom apartment with lounge and additional double sofa bed. Within the heart of the Scottish Borders. It's ground floor and located just a 10-15 minute walk from Galashiels town centre with access to Edinburgh. A traditional stone built home with open plan living/ kitchen area, with shower room and toilet. Tea & herbal, coffee, sugar and milk are provided for arrival. Close to Heriot Watt University, the Borders Railway and Town Centre.
The shower is wonderful, we are told by guests that this is so important, especially when working, a great start to the day. (Please note it sleeps 2 comfortably and has an additional fold out bed in lounge) The lovely apartment has all mod coms with a flat screen TV, DVD player with a selection of DVD's and a Bose bluetooth sound system. It's a cosy homely apartment. A short walk that takes you past the beautiful river of Galafoot a 10-15 minute walk from the town centre including the new railway station (the train takes 50 minutes to the centre of Edinburgh). Driving from the apartment to Galashiels town centre takes 3-5 minutes.
Quiet and close to Heriot Watt University, the Borders Railway and Town Centre. Galashiels is one of the larger towns in the Borders and we are situated a short drive (3 minutes) or a walk (15 minutes) from the town centre and rail and bus links. Galashiels has many shops, we love to shop local but there is a 24 hour Asda and Tesco. There are great pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. And for entertainment there are parks, a cinema and a swimming pool. Other town and villages nearby are Melrose, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Kelso, Hawick and Peebles. There is a train to Edinburgh which takes 50 minutes. Places of interest include the Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford House (home of Sir Walter Scott) and much more. Surrounding towns are Melrose, Jedburgh, Hawick and Kelso. There are also many wonderful scenic walks in the Scottish Borders and our town is renowned for fishing, rubgy and biking trails.
  • This apartment is cosy, lovely decorated, very well equipped. We loved to stay there and explored Scottish Boarders and Edinburgh (convenient train connection, which takes about 50 minutes, 12 minutes walk to the station). Paula is such a perfect host! She picked us up at the station, showed us the accommodation and was always available. She gave us so many tips! It was wonderful - much more than you expect a host would do for you! We will definitely come back!

  • We very much enjoyed our week's stay in Phillippa's flat. It was just as we expected from the photos and description - bright and airy and with everything we needed. Towels, crockery, cutlery, salt and pepper, cooking oil , tea bags, iron and ironing board, all household and cleaning implements were ready for use. The bed was very comfortable, and as we took our own bedding for the sofa bed, that was comfortable too. Everything worked well - shower, heating, cooker. And instructions for use were in the kitchen drawer. We didn't manage to master the tv but that was our fault not Phillippa's as instructions were clearly available. When we had one real problem in the flat, about the door key, we found it easy to contact Phillippa who had it all sorted out very quickly, with very little inconvenience to ourselves. Very close to the swimming pool, and a park which leads through to woodland and hillside walks. Within easy walking distance of all major (and minor) shops. Overall a very good place to stay in Central Galashiels.

  • Amazing place!

  • Outstanding! Very high quality accommodation and excellent, friendly host.

    Martin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Despite wild, windy and cold weather outside, this was a lovely cosy place to come back to after a day outdoors. The studio was cleverly laid out and well appointed. Everything was provided for a comfortable stay and I felt very at home here. There were lots of nice additional and thoughtful touches too. The bed was incredibly comfortable and, despite rain and wind battering against the windows at night I still slept like a log! It’s only a few minutes from the centre of Melrose where there are some excellent restaurants and hotels for food and good local shops. Bus links to other parts of the Scottish Borders can be picked up at the end of the road. Kerry’s communication was top notch and she very kindly drove me to the train station on check-out so that I wouldn’t have to stand about in the snow waiting for the local bus. I would happily make this my base in the Borders in future.

  • I was researching the area for some time to find a place that was good value and interesting to stay at for my girlfriend's weekend away with me. The Stables hit many sweet spots and can whole heartedly recommended it for those who want to stay in the area. Thanks to our hosts, especially for the recommendations for cafes and restaurant.

    Ben2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I've spent a couple of nights a week here for the last few months and it's been nothing but outstanding. Has everything you need for a stay in the borders, and if there's anything you need, Kerry and Al are more than happy to try and help where they can. Will genuinely miss the place as I won't be working up in the borders as often now.

    Brian2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here with our little boy for whom Kerry provided a travel cot and his own baby towel too! The accommodation had everything we needed and was well equipped and spotless and also within easy walking of Melrose high street. It was comfortable and warm and the shower was lovely. Scones and jam were a nice touch waiting for us too. The sloping ceilings were ok for us but might be an issue if you're really tall. Kerry was really helpful both before and during our stay. Great host, great place - highly recommended!

    Dave2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay for work or while visiting the borders. Close to good rail links for Edinburgh too. Great hosts that are always more than happy to help in any way they can.

  • I have stayed for several days in October mainly for fishing in the Tweed river. I enjoyed the fantastic hospitality of Sarah and John. The preserved nature, great large house and a very clean room have to added to the pleasure of stay. But the most astonishing thing was the breakfasts in the morning. Very tasty and complete. I could skip eating the whole day after.

    Egor2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • I have just enjoyed 4 days staying with Sarah and John in there lovely home. Everything was perfect, and Sarah and John were polite and attentive nothing was too much trouble. My room was perfectly clean with a most comfortable bed. The room also had a en suite wet room, which like the whole of the house was sparkling clean and tidy. No one would be disappointed to stay here.

    Nigel2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Guests can be assured of the warmest of welcomes at Bellenden House. Sarah and John (and Amber, their friendly poodle) will make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Our room (ground floor, wet room) was ideal for my wife who finds stairs and baths difficult. Sarah's breakfasts are amazing, sufficient to fuel competitive cyclists and those of us who just wish to explore this beautiful part of Scotland. The easy, relaxed atmosphere is a tonic.

    Richard2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Second time staying with Sarah, great hospitality and location brought me back and I was not disappointed

    Ben2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • My son Tom has stayed with Sarah previously and has been delighted with the wonderful facilities and hospitality show to him there. Sadly, Tom took a fall from his bike, dislocating his shoulder, on the day he was due to check in and so he didn't make it to Sarah's and was forced to A&E from where he eventually limped home. Sarah was great, and I couldn't fault her kind response. She is a great host and I cannot recommend her well enough.

    Evy2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our third visit to Sarahs place. Great hospitality, fantastic breakfasts, and great location for mountain biking.

    Jo2018-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Sarah and John will live long in the memory - it was a real privilege to meet them and to enjoy their generous hospitality. Bellenden House is a beautiful property and wonderfully situated above the Tweed. I thoroughly enjoyed my early morning walks with our dogs - over the style at the side of the garden and then up the hill to enjoy beautiful views up and down the valley. Then back for an extremely generous and tasty breakfast - dietary needs catered for / porridge highly recommended! We particularly enjoyed the interesting conversations that flowed and ranged wide over breakfast - it was hard to tear ourselves away each day. Our room downstairs was perfect - tastefully furnished, comfortable bed, a bookcase full of interesting books - with a spacious, adjoining shower wet room + heated floor. The area has so much to offer and Sarah and John's recommendations were faultless - walks, locations to visit, places to eat, etc. Thank you so much for making this such a special break.

    Paul2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a delightful place in location overlooking the Tweed valley. But the true beauty is the marvelous host family that you will meet. A charming mansion with a beautiful garden a sumptuous breakfast awaits you. Highly recommend. Rex

We didn’t walk much on this occasion as we just needed to chill and enjoy the views but we will be back for a longer stay so we can explore all the area has to offer. Terry provides plenty of local knowledge about walks etc with an extensive file of local places to visit. The accommodation has all essentials, comfortable bed, fluffy towels, tea, coffee etc.
