“As I'm still travelling, and because AIR BNB only provide a short period for me to provide a review, I do not have sufficient time to write all of the positive points I would like to make about my family's stay at the Mandela Hut, Moringa. Notwithstanding this, I have shared some of the salient factors. My family (3 young children-age 10, 10 & 13) and I, stayed at the Mandella hut for 11 days in August 2019. We were collected, on time, for a reasonable fee from Kingston and enjoyed an educational and laid back trip to Treasure Beach. We have stayed in Jamaica for just over seven weeks (Mobay, Ochi, Negril, Port Antonio), and Treasure Beach was by far the most relaxing, economical and friendly, and along with Negril the only places I would return. The premises at Moringa facilitate this enjoyment as they are very peaceful; there's no loud music to be heard at night, the prices are reasonable and the people who live in the nearby community are generally helpful. The Mandela hut itself was great for relaxing. It is not fitted with AC but we didn't find this essential because of the air that freely enters the room keeping it cool. The covered veranda was perfect for sitting out with the children playing cards, eating breakfast and generally chilling out. The family running the show at Moringa made our stay unique. Skip (who manages the place with his parents) is a genuine individual. My children enjoyed the different activities they carried out with him and will have those fond memories forever. Further, e were gently encouraged to participate in some Buddhist chanting, which we happily did. These are experiences that add a different perspective to any holiday. I would not hesitate to stay again if visiting JA.”
The cabins are done in a traditional, rustic style . They are fitted with a pillow top queen sized bed and a fan . We are centrally located and only 150 meters away from the beach . Literally a stone's throw away . You can lie in the hammock and relax under the tree that bears the national flower , the Lignum Vitae and listen to the many birds chirping above . We are ideally situated away from the prying eyes and walking distance away from the restaurants and shops .
“This place is perfect. It is a beautiful slice of heaven with an outdoor shower, a beautiful clean room, comfortable bed, little fridge, peace and quiet and a porch with a hammock to chill and enjoy the beautiful Treasure Beach. Treasure beach community is amazing and this place is perfectly situated for you to access all it has to offer. Right next door to the amazing Smurf's breakfast, down the street from an amazing restaurant and 2 minutes walk from one of the nicest beaches we saw in Jamaica. Thank you Andrew for creating this beautiful oasis and sharing it with us!”
It’s a high vibe. Literally! One story up on a quiet beachside lane sits the stunning, well appointed rooftop apartment at Sea Urchin Villa. The rooftop mini villa is supremely private with a stunning view and soothing tropical breeze and sound of the ocean that will lull you to sleep at night. What sets it apart is not just its vista, but it’s style; simple, airy, and sexy with clean lines and an expansive roof terrace, perfect for sunset watching from the plunge pool. Total bliss.
“The upper unit at Sea Urchin is a gem and an oasis of privacy. Very romantic. Lot's of space, a fully equipped kitchen (only missing a food processor), ample outdoor furnishings, a very comfortable king bed, a delicious plunge pool, amazing views of the Carribean, which is 150 yards away, and, literally, a two minute stroll to Old Wharf Beach . . . for our money, (and we've been going to Treasure Beach for 23 years) the best swimming spot in the Treasure Beach area. Susan is an excellent, very attentive host. (Full disclosure, we have known her for a long time and her extended family are long-time friends.) Sanjay, the house manager, and Catherine, the housekeeper, are super and made our 10-day visit even more enjoyable than it might otherwise have been. The second day we were there, Sanjay made a special trip to another town to get us enough lettuce for our entire stay and Catherine is very fastidious, and took care of our laundry so we always had clean clothes. Water pressure is a tad on the low side for our preferences, but still okay. Renters need to bear in mind that Sea Urchin is about a 20 minute walk from the nearest restaurants (several of which are excellent) and shopping. Don't worry about the distance because you'll need the exercise to overcome the inertia of being in such an idyllic spot. The availability and variety of food, groceries and household supplies will vary from day to day and you won't have the choices that you may be accustomed to at home. Keep your culinary expectations realistic and you'll be fine. And don't forget to bring one or two packable day packs to bring your shopping items back.”
