Places to stay in Burnsville

Places to stay in Burnsville
Surely the place you dreamed of as a child! The treehouse sits above a beautiful mountain stream. Close to parks, art and culture, great views, and restaurants and dining. You’ll love the treehouse because of the romantic coziness. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).
Idyllic 600 sq. ft. artist’s treehouse deep in the forest, 35 feet above a mountain stream with gently cascading waterfalls – just 45 minutes northeast of Asheville, NC. Just 45 miles west of Boone, NC. Perched high in the sky, this home offers sleeping for up to six. Follow the floating log staircase to a romantic upstairs loft with Romeo and Juliet balcony. Lounge in the window seat there, enjoying the best view in the house. Or enjoy the cozy sleeping loft tucked away off the living room. It's the perfect place to curl up with a good book. Stroll along the wrap around deck for magnificent views of the stream immediately below. Sit by the crackling wood stove and enjoy it's cozy warmth. The modern kitchen was made for a master chef. All the cookware, organic spices, and oils are provided to whip up an amazing meal. This is the place you surely dreamed of when you were a child! Designed and built by two imaginative and experienced natural builders, this tiny treehouse hamlet sits on 6 wooded acres with south – facing slopes at a comfortable elevation of 2,150 feet. It is near Mt. Mitchell, the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi and only twenty minutes away from the renowned Penland School of Crafts and the community of Celo, in Yancey County, where more artists per capita live than anywhere in the U.S. The Blue Ridge Parkway will get you within 20 miles of the home. The newly paved highways take you the rest of the way. With easy access to state-maintained roads and just 7 miles from all the conveniences in Burnsville, NC, this quiet, tucked-away eden offers the best of both worlds. An inspiring wildlife and birdwatcher’s paradise, its’ other features include: a view of the beautiful North Toe River from mountain plateau, magnificent rock outcroppings, a small sounding cave, nature trails and many edible wild plants. Simply walk across the street to enjoy the Toe River. It offers refreshing deep waters for swimming and excellent trout or bass fishing. Walk along the pebble shores and simply enjoy the beauty. The Appalachian Trail is within 15 miles of the home running along the NC and TN border. Take a short drive for a worthwhile hike. The home is also within 20 miles of the Roan Mountain State Park for another beautiful hike. *** please note the sleeping loft (not bedroom) is accessed by a fixed ladder. Best for school age children or mobile adults. Not suitable for younger children and older adults.
The treehouse sits on a completely private, 6 acre, wooded lot. It is within 2 miles of the quaint town of Green Mountain which features a genuine general store and post office. The neighboring town of Burnsville is about 1,700 people and is nestled in a valley surrounded by the highest peaks in eastern America, including Mt. Mitchell. It's small downtown is dominated by the Town Square with towering trees. Burnsville is located 35 miles northeast of Asheville, along the Mt. Mitchell Scenic Byway. The Mount Mitchell Crafts Fair transforms the streets around Burnsville’s town square into a festival affair for craft and art lovers, with more than 150 juried crafters displaying and selling. The annual fall Yancey County Dream Home Tour benefits Mayland Community College and features showcase homes in and around Burnsville. Our favorite dining spot downtown is the Garden Deli with a fantastic array of high quality sandwiches, plus dinner entrées on weekend nights (closed Sundays). Their beautiful outdoor dining is right on the Town Square, surrounded by lush plantings and flowers. Many love to drive around to find the area's 200 Quilt Blocks installed on the sides of barns and buildings throughout the countryside and villages. Nine driving trails take you to view the vividly painted squares. In downtown Burnsville, see the Quilt Block Sundial, the largest vertical sundial in North Carolina and the only quilt block sundial in the world, on the side of the Yancey Common Times Journal building near the Town Square. The eight-foot by eight-foot wooden structure features three sets of numbers for telling time: for daylight savings time, for standard time and one for local apparent time. A plaque beside the block explains how to use the sundial. The TRAC (Toe River Arts Council) Gallery downtown at 102 West Main Street exhibit local artists with changing exhibits and a great gallery shop. With work from over 100 artists in a variety of media: clay, glass, jewelry, painting, photography, fiber, wood, sculpture, mixed media, and more. The quality and diversity of art in the area is outstanding. TRAC sponsors the Toe River Studio Tour twice a year on the second weekend in June, the first weekend in December. Over 100 studios and galleries are represented in this free, self-guided tour. The famous art school Penland School of Crafts is just 13 miles east. About 10 miles east of downtown is the energyXchange with artist studios powered by landfill gas. Both are have galleries open most days. The Parkway Playhouse in Burnsville is a small professional theatre with shows from April through December. Yancey County (where Burnsville is located) is full of old and new Agri-Tourism experiences. Visit local farmers markets and farms to purchase fresh produce of the season & delicious homemade treats. And in late November and December, cut your own mountain grown Christmas tree. The scenic Blue Ridge Parkway is 19 miles away, via NC Highway 80 south. Go five miles north to Crabtree Falls and 11 miles south to the entrance of Mt. Mitchell State Park. The great village of Spruce Pine is just 14 miles east on US 19. Burnsville is about 35 miles northeast of Asheville. It's an easy drive (45 minutes) up I-26 West toward Tennessee. Take exit 9 onto Highway 19 East and go about 16 miles.

  • Beautiful treehouse! Very peaceful and secluded. Close to the national parks. The description for the treehouse was very accurate! Composting toilet took a bit of getting used to, but overall a great stay!

  • We absolutely loved staying in the treehouse! Very relaxing and secluded. Perfect weekend getaway.

    Dana2020-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Pros: Gorgeous surroundings, very romanting setting, secluded area but we felt safe there, the hot tub was perfect and very clean, lots of kitchen cookwear, spices, etc. were available, and free firewood was available for the fire pit or indoor fire place. Cons: Insects inside the house (not surprising given the location, but just a warning for those unprepared for this)... we found quite a few spider webs in the loft area where my 5 year old was thus afraid to sleep. (Clearly he is not used to camping.) I found the compostable toilet to have a bit of an unpleasant smell but not nearly as bad as an outhouse or anything like that. The hammock in the photo was missing/broken but the host said it is being replaced soon. Overall the pros very much outweighed the cons and we would definitely stay here again!

    Chelsea2020-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • So many great things to say about this space! The house is cozy and the porch provides excellent views of the woods. Kids, dogs and inquisitive adults will enjoy exploring the creek. We spent most of our time cooking. For the chefs out there, you’ll appreciate the high-end stove and oven.

    Luke2020-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our weekend in the treehouse. We stayed for a weekend in March. Plenty of ways to keep the accommodations warm. The grocery store, less than a 15 minute drive ( with a Starbucks.... bonus) was great! We cooked dinner, kitchen has all your basics to prepare meals. Firewood, plenty of it!! The fire pit has market lighting..... there’s a hot tub.... perfect on cold nights!! Communication was extremely timely. If “ glamping” is your thing.... and looking for a cool, unique, relaxing, quiet getaway... and pet friendly..... you found it!!

    Leigh2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place for a quiet getaway. Lots of hikes and places to see within a short driving distance as well. Kitchen is very nice for those who want to cook.

  • Such a beautiful little barn right next to a creek! It was quiet and secluded. Our 3 year old had a blast playing with the rocks by the creek. The screened in porch is absolutely amazing! Its perfect size for our family of 4 with plenty of trails near by. Perfect for a long weekend away.

  • Spectacular. My favorite Airbnb I've stayed in. 10/10 would actually live there.

    Brett2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This house exceeded all of our expectations. It was clean, all the amenities we needed were provided, and it was the perfect peaceful getaway. Be prepared to spend most of your time playing darts and ping pong on the porch!

    Justin2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The house itself is beautiful. The decor inside is all very nice. The porch was a great place to get work done with the creek flowing right under you. The house is a little tricky to get to from the south (very windy dirt road) so I recommend going through Burnsville and coming back down 197. The local information given to you when you book is extensive and very helpful. We took a few restaurant and hiking recommendations that were all better than we hoped. Overall, this a great stay and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the area!

    Jared2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This house was an incredible place!! My partner and I stayed for a weekend away and were absolutely blown away by the naturak beauty, the great set up of the house and how kind and considerate Kerstin and John were. The wifi and the TV were excellent, and the shower was awesome, with great water pressure. Would absolutely stay here again and I'd encourage anybody else to do the same!!

    Iris2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing interior and very cozy. If you need a getaway to a quiet mountain side, I recommend this place.

    Ilwhan2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • John & Kerstin's cabin was wonderful! Being next to the creek was so nice- the sound of the water was so peaceful. It was also very clear that they took time to think through everything we may need in the kitchen, which was very helpful! Their communication was excellent- would definitely return!

The apartment is convenient to downtown, which enables you to walk to the new HomePlace Brewery+Hog Hollow Pizza. Highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. The radiant heating in the concrete floors make the space super comfy.

This cozy little cabin is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and seekers of solitude in Nature. It's very bare bones, no electric, no water, you provide your own bedding for the queen mattress. Its not for everyone, but its a beautifully secluded spot. The road up is very bumpy and can only be accessed with 4WD, otherwise its a 5-8 minute uphill walk. All guests are welcome to use the bathroom, shower and wifi down at the communal music house here.
  • A unique place. definitely will come back soon.

    Nikita2020-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property! Isolated and peaceful

    Justin2020-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough good things about Jared and the cabin. The cabin was perfect - secluded and homey. Ideal for anyone looking for primitive but with the option to use a bathroom if necessary haha. Jared communicated with us quickly and even checked in to make sure we got there safely. The property is beautiful. The only downfall was we had to leave! We will definitely be returning.

    Ashlyn2020-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I start?! This place is just wonderful! The scenery, the people, the music, the mountains, there’s a special vibe to snaggy mountain, it’s unmatched. Jared is awesome, very laid back, talented, and very accommodating! I would recommend a stay on his property to any adventurer!

    Chan2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jared was amazing! The nights were cold and a cabin with a wood-burning stove was open, Jared was welcoming and let us stay there. It had a gorgeous view of the stars and kept us warm and comfortable. We loved our stay and would highly recommend Jared's place! The land was beautiful, the town was gorgeous, and our trip was fantastic!

    Lexi2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • It was so cool it was like haunted or some thing I had that spooky feel coming from Vermont just being in North Carolina was really neat and accommodations were perfect for me to take my own little mini adventures and work through my stuff getting my work done and traveling can be hard the space made it easy

    Christine Marie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This property is gorgeous. Hands down the best place I’ve stayed in the northern part of the pisgah. Jared was gracious enough to let me stay in another cabin that has a wood stove since it was going to be so cold. The cabin I was in, the cabin in the pictures above, and the campsite were all incredible and would be amazing places to stay (I hiked around the property to see the views).

    Ryan2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jared was a great host. He offered us the cabin with the stove heater since the weekend was so cold, which was great. There was tons of space for my pups to run and explore which was a great change from our city living. I do wish I had stocked up on wood when we first got there since it rained the second day, highly recommend doing that. I don't have 4WD and parked just past the main house. I will say I had to take a break or two walking up to the cabin with my gear, so pack accordingly. Will definitely be back again!

Built in 1900, this home was built for William and Kitty Parnell. The street is still called "Parnell Hill" by the old-timers. Walk uptown to the restaurants, shops, and bars, or around the corner to the Parkway Playhouse, library, skatepark, Kid Mountain playground, or hike 3 miles to the peak of Phillips Knob, a finer view - imho - than from Mt. Mitchell. Or just sit on the front porch with your banjo on your knee!
I have older rescue dogs who are allowed on the furniture. Yours is, too. We have big fenced yard and a dog door. If your dog is socialized and healthy (bring proof), then s/he is welcome. There is no central air conditioning, but there are fans, which have done a good job of keeping us cool through the summers for 15 years. If you must have a/c, this listing is not for you.
This is a safe, walkable, family neighborhood within what would be an historic district if we had one.
  • Lovely cottage in a super convenient location. Sweet dogs. Lovely host.

    Dolly2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Very comfortable and cozy. This was my first time using using air BNB and I felt that I picked the perfect place.

    Michael2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Dogs were super quiet! Watch for the address- GPS took us to the wrong house. Lucy was very nice and helpful with local knowledge, the place was clean. Windows open at night brought in the wonderful cool mountain night air. Very laid back, feels like home. Sweet little town and enjoyed the local theater.

    Vonda2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy's place is very close to the main square and there is lots to do nearby. The room suits 2 people.

    Maureen2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy's house was built in early 1900s and has wonderful charm. The nights were cool and we slept with open windows and a great breeze. Lucy's love for dogs is evident and she tells you that up front. If you are not a dog person, Lucy's place may not be for you. We were within walking distance of downtown Burnsville, which made it the perfect spot for our stay. If in Burnsville again, we would stay with Lucy. Thanks, Lucy!

    Judith2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy's place is great. Everything is clean and she leaves good instructions on how to use the various amenities in the house. There are several dogs but they are sweet and calm. There are lots of cool posters and art around the house.

    Leah2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nice little quaint place to stay at. Really clean and welcoming house without any unnecessary big city amenities (like cable / TV - you're there to enjoy nature not watch TV). It is a hidden gem in the Burnsville / Yancey County area. You will feel right at home with Lucy and her lovely dogs. Highly recommend!

She really goes the extra mile to make guests feel welcome. We found fresh flowers and and freshly baked cookies when we arrived. The suite was spacious, thoughtfully decorated, and sparkling clean. The bathroom was perfect for our needs and easily accommodated our family of four. The location was just what we wanted, within walking distance of restaurants and downtown shops. Mary Jane is available to answer questions or provide information. She gave us some great tips on places to visit, and we followed her advice. Julie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Mary Janes place was amazing. The place was sparking clean and they had some suggestion books that were helpful for some of the trails we had picked out. The mountains and Asheville were both nearby (30-60 drive about). Homemade cookies were waiting for us which were amazing! We would definitely stay again!

  • This was my second time staying here and it was wonderful! The space is very clean, cozy and close to everything we needed. There were thoughtful touches like crayons and sticker book for my toddler. Will book everytime I come to town!

  • A sweet spot, close to downtown, that is quiet and clean. Plus, delicious pizza right next door.

    Stefanie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The town of Burnsville is really revitalizing, so close to downtown shops & restaurants, just a really cozy nice place to stay

  • Another great LitFest weekend in Burnsville - with Mary Jane's place as a center point. (3rd year in a row!) Highly recommend this spot as a shared experience for several adults who need a convenient local "home."

    Tanya2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mary Jane's place is exactly as advertised. I travel to Burnsville a few times a year, and it was nice to find this property so close to the center of town. It was clean, neat and well appointed with kitchen utensils, coffee maker and toaster, a dining table, a comfy recliner couch to watch tv and good mattresses. The bathroom is small but convenient. Mary Jane was very responsive - I spilled something in the kitchen and after cleaning it up, couldn't get rid of the odor. I couldn't figure out why the A/C fan wouldn't start and she came right over and helped. All told it was a charming place, and I think you will enjoy your stay in Burnsville if you stay with Mary Jane.

  • We are repeat guests! I just love this town and Mary Janes beautiful accommodations! You will love it too!

  • Jacuzzi tub, incredible views, amazing hosts, delicious biscuits and a good deep rest. This was our experience staying in the Smokey Mountains with Sue. The last night of our honeymoon was well spent with good, kind people, breathtaking visuals and at least 11 wild turkeys, which came up out of the forest to welcome us as we pulled up to the drive. :D We had a truly great stay and an authentic Smokey Mountains experience. Thank you, Sue, for the lovely private tour and all the special and sweet touches like those delicious eggy cheesy biscuits you left for us. Delicious! And a sweet and lovely thank you to your husband for the festive light bottles to help celebrate our special occasion. Best Wishes to you both <3

  • Sue and Tom were wonderful hosts. I was coming from the Bare Dark Sky observatory and Sue was still there to greet me even with my late arrival. She was extremely accommodating and the space was lovely. I was surprised by the breakfast biscuits that she left for us to have for breakfast. Definitely a great stay!

    Katie2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Sue was very nice and I booked for a last min business trip and she was very accommodating definitely would recommend.

    Andrew2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Sue was nothing but perfect. The pictures don't lie, the view really is that amazing, and the property even has a few short trails down to the beautiful river nearby. The apt itself was perfect for four people, with two queen beds in separate rooms. The bathtub was awesome after a long day of snowboarding! Everything was clean and there was even coffee for us in the morning.

  • My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Linda's cabin. The cabin is tucked away in the woods but is so close to the sweet town of Burnsville. Linda was a wonderful host. We ended up arriving much later than expected, and Linda was very kind about the whole ordeal. She graciously left some delicious muffins and other breakfast items to enjoy in the mornings before trekking around the area. A sweet kitty cat would greet us every morning and made us feel right at home. This cabin is a great getaway with perfect proximity to other great areas in the North Carolina Mountains. Linda provided some awesome recommendations, too!

    Allyson2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was a lovely woman and host! She provided us with all of the best local tips and the BEST lemon poppyseed muffins. Stay for the muffins!!

    Hannah2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was extremely friendly and welcoming. Her cabin is perfect for a short getaway in the mountains. The screened in porch was our favorite part. It was great for enjoying nature with our morning coffee. The town of Burnsville is charming as well and there are plenty of great hikes just a short drive away.

    Sara2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • I loved the quiet of the woods, the bird calls and open windows. I wanted time alone to write but to feel safe and Linda being close by and her discreet contact was just right. Tiny little cabin and beautiful colorful bed made for a comfortable, lovely stay. Mornings on the front porch with good coffee and yogurt and granola meant I didn't need to go out for breakfast. The nearness of the little town of Burnsville was just right and dinner and an active town square meant there was always a little something to do. Saturday farmers market was perfect. Hiking and mountains and cool mountain air completed the picture!

    Jana2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a marvelous time. If we didn’t ask Linda, no one else had accurate information, not even the visitors’ center. and we were lost or totally missed the venue. So , ask Linda. She was always ready for information. If you go and want to find something, always ask Linda. Everything we needed was provided with gracious hospitality. Linda did the dishes and took out our trash. If you are looking for a tiny space, this cabin in the woods is secluded but close to a cute little town so it is a perfect spot to sit on the porch . We hope others love it as much as we did. We would love to return someday.

    Susan2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful guest cabin in the treetops on the side of a mountain. Loved our stay. Linda was so sweet and such a great host. Will be back!

    Katie2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Rhododendron Cabin was absolutely perfect for our vacation to the mountains of North Carolina. My husband and I stayed there for 3 wonderful nights. It was just what we needed. Linda left us breakfast of muffins, yogurt, and oatmeal as well as coffee and tea. There is a refrigerator, coffee pot, and electric kettle in the cabin. Linda supplied plenty of linens and dishes, replenishing what we needed. She had great suggestions for dinner and hiking. The cabin is located at the end of a road down a short private drive. It is just out of the town of Burnsville on the side of a mountain. There are two small creeks running beside the cabin, which you can hear from inside. We saw and deer and turkeys on our way to and from Burnsville. Burnsville is an awesome small town, with great hiking nearby, good restaurants, a brewery, and our favorite coffeeshop. We felt right at home there. We definitely want to come back.

    Mary Anne2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely ADORE this place. My husband and I love it here so much, we decided to get married here. Linda and Tom are the most wonderful people and gracious hosts. They always have great suggestions for food and hiking spots. The minifridge is stocked with water and snacks. There is a little goodie basket on the counter that is filled with delicious snacks that really came in handy on our hikes. It is cool enough to sleep with the windows open every night and hear the stream flowing and birds singing. Everyone in town is beyond friendly - we found a little coffee shop in the town square (just down the road) that has the most amazing apple pie. We ended up eating breakfast there almost every morning. You do need to be careful of the wildlife on the drive up.. throughout our stay we saw deer, turkey (with babies), rabbits, and groundhogs. This place is absolutely perfect for a little getaway. It is close to town but you feel like you are in a woodland wonderland when staying here. We can't wait for our next trip!

THE WABI-SABI INN isn't just another place to hang your hat! It's a UNIQUE EXPERIENCE - a place to pause, breathe and be...a private nest for you or two, the right amount of altitude, attitude, some chutzpah, and plenty of charm on 8.5 acres. At 2800' you're aware the air is fresher. No other place can beat the rest you'll have here. The term wabi-sabi is the traditional Japanese aesthetic encouraging focus on embracing life. We’re all about that!
I CAME HERE TO FIND MYSELF. IT'S SO EASY TO GET LOST IN THE WORLD. -John Burroughs- The quietude and serenity here will make you think you’re the only one(s) in The Back of Beyond with the exception of an occasional melodious outburst from the rooster Red, or the soft clucking of his bevy of egg-laying beauties. He and his ladies dwell at the Chick Inn at the end of Chicken Alley which meanders alongside our veggie and herb/flower gardens. It’s possible you may hear a small in stature/large in personality Shih Tzu pup or two using their words to welcome you. We delight in having the queen bed comfortably dressed for your arrival. The pristine bathroom is completely tiled with a smooth rock floor. The Asian-style rain shower (there's room for two if you like company) will bring a refreshing finish to your day before you slip between soft sheets to be lulled into a satisfying slumber (I’m a hopeless romantic). Here's another Wabi-Sabi special touch: To let you know how glad we are to have you here, we prepare a yummy breakfast the first morning (or when it works best with your plan) and deliver it either to your stoop or to your patio - your choice. You prepare your beverage; we bring your breakfast. Let us know your time preference. It'll be there. It's your call whether to eat in or on your patio. Breakfast in bed is an option - just let me know. If you can't wait to get on with your day, I'm happy to make you a 'bagfast' (a to-go breakfast in a bag.) For your other mornings, you might enjoy visiting the renovated Ingles Supermarket just 7 minutes away or one of Burnsville's breakfast-serving eateries. There are no actual cooking facilities at the Inn. Nada. Hey! You’re on holiday - that's no time to be standing over a hot stove. We provide you with a fridge, K-cup coffee maker, electric tea kettle, and toaster oven. We think of them as necessary little conveniences. There are beverages - java, teas, waters, hot chocolate with accouterments. Everything is right there at your fingertips in Wabi-Sabi. If you can’t bear to leave Shangri-la (...there are those who haven't!) and you’re jonesing for a quiet dinner at home, you do the take-out ordering from your choice of eateries in town; and if you'd like, my cabana boy husband (CB) will pick up and deliver to you. Then you go straight to wining and dining by candlelight on your garden-side patio. If you're chilly and/or need a bit more ambiance to set the stage, a gas-lit fire pit is right there.
The Wabi-Sabi Inn is a mere 8-9 minutes’ drive from the hustle-bustle of very artsy Burnsville with it’s thriving Town Square. Just after you leave our paved driveway you’ll traverse a very short patch of honest-to-goodness pitted, rutty gravel country road. Take some deep breaths...it's over in just a minute... Then it's yours to experience a relaxing drive into the village, passing idyllic hills and pastoral valleys dotted with well-loved, nestled-in homesteads. Some look very much like days of yore. Yesteryear. Days gone by. Ahhh...the charm of it is awe-inspiring. Just wait and see!
  • We absolutely loved Birds place! She could not have been more helpful with getting us there and making sure we had everything we needed. It’s a perfect spot for a mountain getaway. We would definitely stay there again!!

  • How does one even begin to describe what a stay at Wabi-Sabi does for the body, mind and soul? This place upon the mountain, and the family who lives here, are treasures upon the planet. Kind, warm-hearted, caring, and concerned, they look after their guest’s every need. I will miss them as much as I will miss this sacred space The cottage is quaint, cozy and artfully decorated. Inside and out there are captivating things that catch the eye everywhere you look, and one of my favorite things to do was to open the curtains in the morning and watch the chickens roaming freely right outside my door! I was so blessed to be here for a period of time where I saw the beauty of fall and the last of the gardens amazing flowers, as well as the first snow of the season and the magic of it sparkling under a full moon. There is so much here I will carry with me when I leave including a pile of heart rocks I found on my daily walks up to the ridge for the exercise and for the enchantment I found along the way, especially the heart made of snow! I chose to have Bird’s special breakfast at the end of my stay, and I will tell you, it was well worth the wait. Scrumptious beyond compare and a delight to the eyes in its presentation! I’ll look forward to returning just for the breakfast Bird so lovingly makes with care. Thank you for a most delightful stay. I am in gratitude for my time spent here and most especially for the time spent with each of you.

    Lisa2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a super cute little cottage in the mountains. Bird greets you with a smile and shows you how to use everything in the space. It is also easy to communicate with her through messaging if you have any issues. She is also an amazing cook, and she made me a gluten free breakfast on my first morning there using eggs from the chickens they raise on the mountain. The space is perfect for a solo get-away and maybe for a couple. I don't think it could accommodate more than that. If you are just looking for a quick get-away, this place may be right for you. I was there to work on a manuscript and felt I had all the amenities I needed.

    Britty2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Bird’s exceeded our expectations. She is the epitome of a “super host”. She was never intrusive, yet was always available if we needed anything, which we did not. Her hideaway is heavenly, very private but also close to the town of Burnsville. She created a very lovely, peaceful spot to recharge our spirit. The bed was so comfortable and the view from the sliding doors outside was spectacular. Our breakfast she served on the first morning was exceptional: fresh eggs from her chicks and other small touches that made it especially yummy. Bird is such a creative person and her attention to detail is evident in how she runs her Air BnB. We will definitely be returning to stay at her delightful abode. This has been our best Air BnB experience so far. You can’t go wrong staying here.

    Leah2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Wabi was every bit as magically as we could have imagined. Bird and CB (Maurice 😀) were the superstar host I never expected. I knew I would have a great experience just from prior communication with Bird but my oh my I didn’t expect the phenomenal experience we had. From the moment we arrived Bird was waiting for us with a smile so bright she puts the sun, moon and stars to shame! The detailed tour she gives is so very helpful. It saves you the headache of trying to find things. I love that she tells you where everything is so you can just get straight on with your day. The decor at the Wabi is cozy, romantic, whimsical, and filled with love. The little note she leaves and gift is such a sweet touch. The bed is absolutely comfortable and I have never slept so well out of town before. Not once did I wake up and have trouble falling back asleep. Every possible thing you can think of sand/or need Bird thought of. It’s funny because as she gave us a tour she mentioned an extra unused tooth brush in one of the drawers. I laughed inside because I actually did forget my tooth brush at home and the fact that she had one was just fate. We brought along our 3 month old son and he enjoyed it as well. Waking up and sitting outside listening to the waterfall and hearing the chickens and rooster was awesome for him. I made a joke that he is finally hearing real white noise instead of white nose on his Spotify 😀! Bird was always available for questions no matter what time you contacted her. And don’t let me forget the breakfast she provided for us. All fresh ingredients from her garden and eggs from her chicken. We have never ate food so fast and told everyone about it. It was the best food we had our entire stay! It is the perfect setting to pour a glass of wine and cozy up outside by the fire pit which we did! Again Bird thinks of every detail! It’s definitely a perfect romantic getaway and perfect for a small family! You will NOT regret choosing the Wabi-Sabi for your stay. I will definitely stay there again! Thank you so much Bird and we love you forever! ❤️

  • The Waba Sabi Inn is a little piece of paradise in the North Carolina Mountains. Bird has paid such attention to all the details. She has created a truly relaxing haven if you want to get away from it all. You have everything you could possibly need in the Waba Sabi Inn, The bed is fabulously comfortable, and the rain shower is huge and wonderful. You can have your morning tea or coffee, and heat up things in the toaster oven. I enjoyed relaxing with my wine on the front porch area looking out over the beautiful mountain views and Bird's beautiful garden. The garden is lovely at night with twinkling lights, as is the porch with all the lovely lighting. Be sure to take a stroll down Chicken Alley and say hi to the girls! I arrived after dark and Bird was right there to greet me and show me around. She also kindly made me a breakfast bag to go on Saturday morning as I was in town to work the Mt Mitchell Art Show. To top off everything, Bird is an absolute delight! It was so special to get to meet her, I do hope to return to her lovely mountain retreat in the future. This was the best air bnb stay I have ever had. I highly recommend a stay at the Wabe Sabi Inn. It will recharge your batteries for sure!

  • The Wabi-Sabi is an absolute delight. Thoughtfully designed and appointed, the cottage was a great home-base for our stay, and Bird was entirely welcoming, accommodating, helpful and hospitable. You truly get a BnB-style experience here, and I recommend it as a great place to stay and explore the beautiful North Carolina mountains. The Wabi-Sabi is a whimsical, charming cottage tended to by a thoughtful host who loves what she does.

  • Expect a quaint mountain setting with a babbling creek that will ease you to sleep at night along with with amazing hosts who make sure that your stay is enjoyable and comfortable. The cabin combines the rustic architecture of a cabin with modern design and amenities creating a peaceful, relaxing, enjoyable environment. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The view was amazing! The hosts, Maureen and Dave, make sure they are available to answer questions (or if you need something) and have great tips on local things to do/see. They are very personable and easy to talk to but they will give you privacy as well.

  • Dave and Marleen are extraordinary hosts. No complaints period, 5 stars. You definitely get more than your money's worth. If you need to get away from the stresses of life, these are your people. Great conversation, awesome cabin and amenities. Hiking available in the area immediately adjacent to the property. No cell service in the area, but the hosts provide wifi if you want to use it. A bit difficult to find, especially in the dark - wouldn't have been able to find it without Marleen's guidance. Don't let that deter you! *****A word on navigation - be sure you have offline maps, and the bridge across the river is not on google maps. It is a little farther up the road from where it says to turn.

    Owen2018-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house right on the creek. Free room upgrade was unexpected, but so appreciated. Comfy bed, beautiful room. Downstairs twin room was really nice, know I would have been comfortable in it, too. Really nice areas outside. You won't find a better host and hostess. Homemade breakfast bread was delicious. The road to house was one of the prettiest drives in the mountains. A little Heaven on earth. Thankful I got to stay with you all. It made my trip!

  • Jack and Debby were absolutely wonderful hosts! They greeted us warmly upon our arrival, showing us the amenities and our room, which were BEAUTIFUL! The room was gorgeous with lots of windows and cozy furniture and blankets. We had our own private bathroom with a lovely heater outside the bath/shower. They provided us with a keurig in the room, as well as fresh coffee in the kitchen in the morning. Jack and Debby were kind enough to provide us with a homemade breakfast of eggs, bacon, bagels, and coffee in the morning, which we got to enjoy with them in their dining room in the morning. They have two super friendly, adorable dogs, and they got along great with our dog! We got an extra treat when we got to meet their 5 week old puppies! So lucky timing there :) We had a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend them to anyone staying in the area! They truly make you feel welcome. Thanks, Jack and Debby!

  • What a beautiful home and welcoming hosts! My pup loved running around the yard, and curling up with me in our room. We were treated like family yet given space to relax and chill without pressure to socialize. I’d highly recommend staying here when in the area.

  • Debbie's welcome is exceptional and the landscape breathtaking. The bedroom is very comfortable and the whole house is immaculate. I highly recommend. Debbie is a very nice host that is attentive to all your needs. The room is very nice and clean and the area is very pretty. It was a very pleasent stay, i recommend it to everyone.

  • Great hospitality in a beautiful home!

  • What a wonderful stay we had and Jack and Debby's. We enjoyed our opportunity to stay in such a unique home, during our mountain road trip, thank you!

  • We had a wonderful time in this great space. Debby was a very accommodating hostess and was a delight to be around. The house was beautiful and well maintained. It is far enough away to be a bit of a get away but still close enough to go into Asheville or the surrounding areas for the day.

    Daniel2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • My husband, our pup, and I LOVED Debby’s place! The house itself is beautiful and was decorated so nicely for Christmas. Debby went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. She even dog sat for us while we went to dinner and cooked us breakfast the next morning. We will definitely be coming back!

    Elizabeth2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jack and Debby are really thoughtful, interesting and fun people. The room was spacious and clean, which, if I'm saying it, it really is clean. Debby was the perfect hostess, even making us breakfast which was really yummy (eggs, sausage, a selection of toast with homemade jam, etc.). We even were there when her dog was having puppies! That was an extra treat. Thank you both so much.

We lived in and loved our tiny home for two years and have now opened it up for other tiny house enthusiasts to enjoy! Tucked away in the mountains of WNC on our two acre homestead, our tiny home on wheels allows our guests to experience "tiny house living" while enjoying the comforts of home at their finger tips (sometimes, literally!). The home is a 35 minute picturesque drive to downtown Asheville (& more!) So come escape, explore, and enjoy - we look forward to having you!
Our tiny house was designed and built (by us) with comfort in mind, we didn't want it to feel tiny or cluttered or cramped. The number one comment we get when people enter the tiny house is how spacious it feels and we tend to agree. There are 9 strategically placed windows throughout to let in a ton of natural light while still providing privacy so you don't feel like you're on display. Most of the windows are awning windows which means they can stay open in the rain without letting any water inside (a must for those lovely summer storms and the mountain breeze at night). Our tiny house also suits those who are on the taller side, the clearance in the bathroom is 6'8" and the shower head in the bathtub is recessed into the ceiling for additional room. The sleeping loft features a low profile king (yes, King!) mattress, more than enough room for a couple. Downstairs is a daybed with a memory foam twin mattress that runs the length of the short end of the house - no tiny bench seat here! The daybed is great for lounging in the afternoon, reading a book, watching a movie, and can double as an additional sleeping area if needed. The kitchen is very telling of our personalities, I'm an avid home cook and my husband is a professional chef. So the sink is huge, the stove top is huge, and the fridge is big for a tiny house. The only thing we couldn't fit is a traditional oven for baking, but we have put in a small toaster oven for our guests. If you're not the type to cook on vacation, you'll find many of our favorite eat/drink spots in the area on the Airbnb guide and you're always welcome to ask us for suggestions based on your tastes or cravings, we're happy to help! Guests may also use the charcoal grill outside when the weather permits. We're happy to provide charcoal, lighter and grill brush. We provide ground coffee (including decaf), various quality teas, sugar, salt, pepper, cooking oil, as well as an array of kitchen utensils and cooking essentials. Depending on season and availability, we try to share our farm fresh duck eggs and goodies from the garden with our guests. Help yourself to any food or drink you find in the kitchen. Some toiletries are provided and can be found in the bathroom - we ask that you use the soap/shampoo products provided as they are all biodegradable, a must for the grey water system of the tiny house. The bathroom is fitted with a combo bathtub and shower, the water is on demand and nice and hot. The composting toilet is easy to use - there's no mess, no smell, nothing to fear. Simply read the simple instruction card located in the bathroom and you'll be fine. There is a small collection of books and board games for you to enjoy on those lazy days, there is also access to WIFI and a 36 inch Smart TV. The WIFI Password will be provided at check in. You're welcome to sign into your own Smart TV streaming apps, just make sure to sign out when you check out. Our ladder to the loft is steep but it is very sturdy and has handrails on each side. We have used it daily with no issue, most of the time we had an infant/toddler or laptop in one hand and navigated it just fine. * But, please do be careful if you're not used to climbing up and down ladders. * Outside there is a nice sitting area with a bench, two chairs and a table. There is a sun-shade that helps shade the area in the high summer sun. A charcoal grill with coals and accessories is available in the warmer months for outdoor cooking. There is a large fire pit with Adirondack chairs for relaxing (firewood and fire starter available for a small fee upon request).
The tiny house is located West of Burnsville, a scenic 35 minutes to downtown Asheville. The tiny house is a half mile from the "highway", there are no difficult country roads to maneuver, and it is easily accessible in the winter without 4WD. It is less than 10 minutes to downtown Burnsville where there are a few coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, adorable town square, farmer's market, bookstore, etc. Other adorable little towns nearby are Spruce Pine (15 mins), Mars Hill (15 mins), Weaverville (20 mins). Distances to other attractions: Penland School of Crafts - 30 min Mt. Mitchell (highest point East of the Mississippi) - 1 hour along the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway Marshall - 45 mins Hot Springs - 1 hour Emerald Village (Wizard of OZ theme park) - 30 minutes Toe River (river access and seasonal swimming pool) - 20 minutes Charlotte Airport - 2 hours 20 minutes Asheville Airport - 45 minutes
  • What a great place! The tiny home was spacious and had a very cool interior. Elsa was a great host too! She was accommodating with our arrival time and left everything we needed for our stay. Plus the cat was super friendly with us when we were outside!

  • Great place for one person, had everything you need

    Guillermo2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a great and cozy tiny home. I loved the sounds of the pigs and ducks outside. We had a great fire one night right outside. The kitchen in the house is spectacular.

    Fred2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was amazing! Elsa did a great job of listing all the details you need to know about the house and the area. We greatly enjoyed our stay and how accessible Elsa was. We weren’t huge fans of the composting toilet, but it was VERY fairly communicated in the details she lists about the tiny house and we decided it would still be worth the trip. All in all, this was the perfect place to relax and get away.

    Victoria2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is such an amazing space. I was lucky enough to stay for one night. I will for sure be back with my husband And hopefully stay a few days longer. So many thoughtful touches and super clean. I am no longer frightened by the thought of a composting toilet. LOL

    Claudia2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and charming, made us want to rush home and speed up our plans for our own tiny house! Very clean and well laid out space. The cat was so sweet and listening to the Ancona ducks quack quack away was charming and atmospheric. We will be back :)

  • The description is accurate and the cabin is very quaint and comfortable...only about a 20 minute walk to "downtown." A good value and a good space.

  • Michael has a wonderful place. He is very prompt to respond and extremely flexible when it came to the logistics. We greatly enjoyed our stay.

  • Excellent place to stay! The house was beautiful. Even decorated for Christmas!

    Colleen2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great 3-bedroom cabin with a nice view and large back porch! Perfect for a getaway. We climbed Mt. Mitchell, which was about a 30 minute drive away, but very do-able. Were able to walk to the Homeplace Brewery. There is no Uber in Burnsville, so that was nice to be able to walk! It was a dark walk, so we used our flashlight app on our phones, but the locals assured us they hardly even locked their doors in the area.

    Shelly2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin in a nice small town. Views were terrific and the playground is right up the street. Highly recommended.

    Tim2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Michael is a super host. Everything was great at the house and and he answered every question with lightning speed. House is two blocks from Main St. But sitting on the back porch you feel like you are miles from town.

    Kenneth2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great little cabin! On a quiet street in town but with an awesome view from the back porch. It was prettier than we expected. So comfy and cozy we want to go there again in the fall.

  • this cabin feels very private, despite being a short walk or drive from the main town square. the space was as described, with a really great back porch made better by the excellent view. would definitely stay here again!

Quaint English cottage and courtyard, in the heart of historic Burnsville, in the mountains of North Carolina. Affordable luxury in a central location. Our county boasts Mt Mitchell, highest peak east of the Mississippi and the Blue Ridge Parkway! We are walking distance to town's shops and eateries. An hours drive from the Appalachian Trail and Great Smokies. And a 35-minute drive north of Asheville. Within minutes drive are numerous waterfalls, hikes, fly-fishing and rivers for swimming.
The space boasts professional interior decorating, historic charm, even an Alexa for automated lights, music, movies. The cottage owners founded Mountain Medical Arts next door, an integrative medical practice who can coordinate appointments for laser skin treatments, massage and energy healing modalities, right in the cottage if you prefer. We want you to know we’re doing our part to help our guests stay safe by cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces (light switches, doorknobs, cabinet handles, remotes, etc.) before you check in. And that we’ve also taken precautions including but not limited to replacing comforters with washable quilts, laundering all bedding, using waterproof pillow protectors and mattress pads, ScotchGaurd-ing upholstery, plus storing away decorative pillows and throws.
See our photos for some of our local favorites. We have all the beauty of the mountains without the busy tourist traffic and worn hiking trails of Asheville and the southern counties. On our border with Mitchell County is Penland School of Arts and gallery, which has brought many artists to the area: glass, ceramics, fabric, and more! The Bare Dark Sky Observatory in Yancey County hosts a custom-built telescope with a large 34-inch mirror, part of Mayland Earth to Sky Park, with a 360-degree viewing of the night sky. We have the wonderful Parkway Playhouse for live theater: 70 years running! We have a new wonderful public library and great playgrounds. Summer art and play camps for kids. Our local Quaker community hosts "Cabin Fever" events January through April with music jams, films, potluck dinners and more: just ask us! Our local farmers market runs April 22 through November and is just outside the Cottage door!
  • Absolutely a great Airbnb. Very charming! I would highly recommend

    Gregory2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • All around great experience in early March, it even snowed some for us. Went for a relaxing weekend in the mountains and that’s exactly what we got. Really enjoyed this cozy, historical, peaceful space with the warm fireplaces. The bathtub and complimentary spa soaps were a lovely touch! Kitchen space was very cool and functional for the small size. The area walking distance around the cottage was interesting, artistic, and what you want when you visit NC mountains. The Appalachian java house had the best cold brew coffee I’ve ever had and massive cookies. The Rescue Dog Cafe is a cool coffee and breakfast spot too. Would be a better/different experience in summer when more stores are open. Would have visited the old movie theatre if we had not already seen the movie. Lots of things to do in a 30 mi radius. Looking forward to another visit when they open the Sky Park at Mayland College later this year! Added bonus, the police station is across the street so safety was a low concern.

  • The cabin was a perfect for a weekend getaway! We wish we could have stayed one more day. Hiking around the property was fun, but as they noted take caution because it can be rather slippery. We also struggled a little bit down by the water because we were having to climb up rocks and over knocked down branches. However, we were fine with it since we had proper hiking gear. We can't wait to come back for another visit!

  • A great spot to unplug just north of Asheville. The views of the creek from inside were our favorite part.

    Alex2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to spend a weekend getaway at. If you’re looking for somewhere to escape- this is it. I didn’t have great cell service with Sprint but it ended up being a huge blessing being completely disconnected. (I’m sure if you walked around a bit you could find some to send a text or call!) Overall amazing experience.

    Maria2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was lovely. Thalia’s cabin is everything we wanted and more. We were lucky enough to see snow during our stay and the fire inside was perfect for the chilly nights. Very thoughtful touches (thanks for having a wine opener! I forgot mine!), plenty of extra blankets, wonderful secluded off-grid cabin. Easy commute to Asheville and plenty of close-by hiking recs. Our car isn’t the most off-road friendly and we managed up the drive just fine. Very dog friendly... our Bailey loved every minute. Looking forward to a future stay in warmer weather to enjoy the creek more! 🙌🏼💕

  • You can expect exactly what the pictures show and more. It’s a cozy little cabin that helps you escape from the busy life of social media and people. It’s tucked away in the mountains and views are amazing. This was my second time staying and I hope to have a third.

  • First Airbnb, and this was excellent. So much thought into making this little space into such an inviting room. The little dwarf stove puts out so much warmth I had to crack the windows on a 15° night, don't let its size fool you. Everything I needed to unplug and relax and more! Thanks again, hope to return soon!

  • This location is great. There are many places at this cabin to simply sit and take in the phenomenal views. We happened to be staying here when the Corona virus started to get more serious and people we advised to self-quarantine. That was a non issue at this cabin, we had no problem with that suggestion =)

    Cody2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a beautiful place. The best airbnb I’ve ever stayed at! The view is great, the area is quiet and close access to hikes, and the cabin is so cozy. Not a single bad thing to say about this place!

    Jenny2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about Field and Honey cabin is perfect. The location, the incredible view of the mountains, the coziness of the cabin, the decor, all the thoughtful little touches, the inviting outdoor space. I have always dreamed of a quiet mountain getaway and Field and Honey was better than any dream. This spot will always have a special place in my heart. We had an incredible stay.

    Nika2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Field & Honey was by far my favorite AirBnB experience. Kristi was prompt, professional, and personal! The personal touches in the cabin made this a an ideal place for me to catch some R&R yet still have all of the comforts of home. The cabin is located in a private location which offered the quiet and peacefulness I was searching for. Their are lots of great recommendations on things to do in or around the area , but for those bad weather or down days, Kristi has thought of all the right touches to keep you occupied and cozy. Perfect place!

    Chris2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this is definitely a special place. From the little, thoughtful touches to the amazing, cool decor, we loved every bit of it. Would recommend to anyone. It is about 45 minutes away from Asheville, and there’s ample hiking right in the area to enjoy. We really loved unwinding in front of the beautiful fireplace every night with a glass of wine. What a treat!

    Rebecca2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway in the mountains! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for some relaxation.

    Sarah2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was the PERFECT cabin to relax and recharge. We picked this location because of the beautiful views, its proximity to Asheville and nearby hiking trails. While most cabins feel outdated, this one did not. She did an amazing job updating and decorating this cabin. Kristi was a wonderful host and thought of everything (i.e., welcome snacks, bath robes) to make her place feel like home. Kristi was very responsive and had great suggestions. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

    Patricia2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Field and Honey cabin and all the personal touches Kristi has put into the space are just wonderful. The cabin is so cozy and very clean. Hygge at its finest! Everything has been thought of as far as making the space feel like a home with a stocked kitchen, grilling gear, and bathroom products . The fireplace with plenty of wood was the perfect place to relax. The bed was very comfortable. The area surrounding the cabin was beautiful- it was too cold to spend much time on the deck, but we saw deer and cows grazing through the windows. The thoughtful and personalized welcome treats left by Kristi were the icing on a fantastic retreat!

Cabin in the City is named so because it resembles a true cabin but it is located in the city limits. Very cozy and updated with today's conveniences. Located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to downtown Burnsville. Burnsville, North Carolina is a charming small town in the mountains about 35 to 40 minutes northeast of Asheville. It was established in 1834. Today the population of Burnsville is around 1,800 people.
If you want to be centrally located to all of Yancey county's (Burnsville) amenities, this is the place for you.
The neighborhood is quiet and suitable for chilling out on the front porch or finishing up a work deadline. The sidewalks do "roll up at 5 o'clock" so the area is really safe.
  • Great place close to town. The home was very clean and the water and snacks were a nice touch. The heater in the bathroom is also fantastic on cold days.

    Justin2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at this adorable cabin close to town. We appreciated all the extra touches and snacks and coffee. The neighborhood was quite and everything was lovely. We hope to return sometime!

    Jacque2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabin in the City was a great way for us to spend the weekend in the mountains. We enjoyed walking to town square for breakfast in the morning at Appalachian Java and drinks at night at Snap Dragon and Homeplace Beer Company. The cabin is clean and quiet. We accessed Mt. Mitchell, Crabtree Falls, and Black Mountain during our stay but were also won over by the charm of Burnsville. We'll be back!

    The2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at this wonderful home...and not likely our last! Spacious, clean, great location, wonderful amenities. Best place to stay in the area!

    Andrea2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The location and layout of the place was wonderful. It was very spacious, with lots of special touches, and close to the town square. I would definitely turn.

    Annette2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived late at night and Christine the host had the porch light on which was so inviting. This was such a cute place. We really enjoyed our stay. There was cable tv and free WiFi. The kitchen had everything to cook a meal. The bedroom we used had a Queen bed which was so comfy and large roomy closets. It was just the 2 of us so we didn'tneed the 2nd bedroom. There was a snack tray which was treat, it was nice to grab from that for a quick snack when we came back from a long day of exploring. Will definitely stay again.

    Amy Sue2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot for a family. Great location—close to town but also quiet and peaceful. The cabin is clean with good seating in both the living and dining room and a good sized kitchen. Large, new washer and dryer. We would definitely stay here again!

    Mary2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a real gem. Very clean, great location, AC, washer & dryer, a few snacks left for us, I could go on. Walking distance to a park which was nice with kids. I highly recommend!!

We have two hike-in cabins along the South Toe river. Each cabin has two beds and sleeps 4. Each site has a BBQ grill and covered picnic table and fire pit. There are two bathrooms with sinks and toilet that are located in an adjacent building but no showers. There is a small wood stove in each cabin, which creates a nice cozy and warm stay in the winter months. Dogs are welcome but need to be on a leash as there are a lot of deer in the area!
The cabins are located on 67 acres. Great place for groups as we also have tent sites available. Matt has wood split for wood stoves and fire pits. Wood has been covered and is dry. We will haul your gear for you and if someone needs a ride we can drive them down too on our ATV but otherwise it is a .5 mile hike in to the cabins.
We are located about 30 minutes from Mt Mitchell; The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 12 miles away; we have river access along the South and North Rivers
  • Wood stove, cozy and overlooking the river. Make sure you read the description carefully and know what you are getting into. If it sounds good then you are going to love it. These guys have put a lot of love into developing this little hideaway and it shows.

    Evan2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay with amazing hosts. This is a cozy cabin on a beautiful river with a stove to keep you warm on chilly nights. Matt and Robin's space blew our expectations out of the water. Although the cabins are off the gird, they've built a bathroom with running water via a natural spring and have well-lit everything with solar panels. If you bring a Coleman stove and some face/baby wipes, you have all the creature comforts that you need. The property is fun to explore and very dog friendly. Between hiking around and exploring Asheville, we spent our nights in the cabin stargazing, reading, and playing poker using creamer packets as chips, and battleship using hand-drawn grids. We can't wait to come back to swim and kayak in the summer.

    Tasmin2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! The half-mile walk to the cabin is not bad at all, and the cabin is right in front of a river where you can fish. Both beds are in the same room with the wood stove in between. The wood stove kept us warm the whole night, and the cabin had more than enough wood to last us the whole weekend. There is no electricity, but the cabin and bathroom has solar powered lights that last up to 5 hours! Matt helped us bring our bags down to the cabin and unloaded for us as well. We had such an amazing time that we already planning a trip in the summer!

    June2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking to get away for awhile, this is the place. Absolutely beautiful. Matt helped me and my pup settle in and kept the fire going. Highly recommend hiking boots as you will walk a somewhat steep .5 mile walk to the cabin. But the seclusion is worth it. You’ll hear the river babbling down below. I will definitely be back in the summer to see the trees in full bloom! So pretty!!

    Alicia2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. Matt is very kind and he answers all the questions you have about the area. The cabin and restroom are very clean. We had more than enough wood for fire pit and stove. We will come back again for sure. Thank you Matt and Robin.

    Ismet2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect for us during our stay. Matt and Robin were extremely kind and knowledgeable on the property history as well as the surrounding area. Matt helped us start a fire our first night and showed us some beautiful spots to explore during our stay. It was the perfect getaway from the busy city and we cannot wait to go back!

    Christina2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures do not give it justice, you must see for yourself! The host made sure our cabin was warm with a fire waiting for us and helped transport our gear to the cabin so we didn't have to carry it down. The cabin and bathroom areas are very clean and tidy. My son didn't want to leave and we already want to go back.

    Irene2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Matt met us as we parked our car in the lot. He assisted us with bringing our few belongings to the cabin. We took a short hike to the cabin and were immediately in awe. 2 cabins sat about 200 feet from each other. We saw the people who occupied the other one as we were walking up, then not again until we left. Cleverly placed to offer privacy, the extremely spacious cabin included 2 queen sized beds and a large dining table. The beds were fully furnished with clean linens (trust me, I thoroughly check every time). The cabin had several lighting options that were solar and battery operated. The wood stove was well kept and more than enough firewood was available to fuel both the stove and outside fireplace for several days. The view was amazing. The cabins are placed next to old railroad tracks, and nearly at the base of the hill. They offered some of the most amazing scenery I’ve ever seen in North Carolina. At night, you appreciate the seclusion as you get the fireplace going and a million stars all shine down on you. I know we just left, but we can’t wait to visit again.

This listing is not for everyone, but perfect for some, please read the details about the space before booking. This listing is all about the site and the view, not the bus. The bus is old, the door doesn't fully close, theres no electric/ac, just a table, desk and a mattress. It's really just there for added privacy/shelter. Its private, there's a fire-pit and a picnic table. You can use the bathroom/shower/wifi after a short walk down to the main house here at the music/arts retreat.
Below are some things to consider to make sure its still a good fit, the last thing I want is anyone to come here and have any sort of negative experience. Potential Downsides: No Electricity No Heat/AC No Firewood No Linens/bedding Bus is very rustic. outdoorsy folk don't mind it, but its not at all nice on the inside, its a super old and it shows. The longterm plans are to finish out the inside, but thats at least a few years down the list. As for now it serves to make the site even more private and as an effective shelter. Potential for mice in the bus. Since the door cannot fully close I cannot guarantee a mouse will not come in, especially if you bring food in. Now for the Positives! A one of a kind campsite. A firepit Epic view Shelter from rain Mattress and pillows An extra tent that you can set up and a cot stored under the bus. Wi-fi, bathroom/shower, electricity, kitchen, instruments and musicians a short walk away. Hiking on the land A small waterfall here on the property that you can stand under for a rejuvenating rush of cold mountain water.
  • This place was truly magical! I appreciate the honest description, and I found the bus to be very charming and the views unbelievable! Spectacular for the price. Even in April it still gets very cold at night, so be sure to bring many blankets. Jared even offered me one of his cabins since it was cold. Very kind and friendly hospitality, and highly recommend this hidden gem.

We are definitely a cabin “over the river and through the woods” but just ten miles from the quaint mountain town of Burnsville, North Carolina. Our cabin is surrounded by gorgeous Mountain View’s and a bold rushing creek. We have a covered stone patio on creek and a covered front porch, both with comfortable chairs for just sitting and relaxing. Fire pit in yard also. Many hiking trails in area, fishing and swimming holes. Town has many restaurants, shops and a local brewery.
Our cabin is rustic not fancy. Wood floors, ceilings and all walls are either timber or stone.
We live on a country gravel road with mountains all around. Our stone patio over looks Cattail Creek. Peaceful and serene surroundings
  • Maureen & Dave immediately welcomed us into their home as if we were family. The house was charming and cozy and right on a babbling river... We didn’t want to leave! Hopefully we will be back someday soon for a nice getaway in the woods — such a wonderful stop along our journey! Thanks again.

This is a Rustic farmhouse on a private gated farm (not all mine) but it has been upgraded over the years... From my porch, one can see & hear the Toe River, (the riverside I do not own) One can also see & hear the sounds of a train as it comes by my cottage (2x at night/daytime). This could be a problem for some people who do not like loud trains!!!! My cottage is off N. 226 Hwy near Loafers Glory. Within a 50 mile radius are many Tourist sites Checkout My “Guidebook”
I do have Two Issues that might prevent you from Renting my cottage: :: Since I do charge so little for a complete cottage($55 per night for up to 6 people) and since it is somewhat isolated on a private gated farmland... 1) all the Locals know that this is one of the few places to access the Toe river and some uninvited stranger might come on the property, I asked that you keep the gate locked(or at least make it appear locked when you go out somewheres). I recognize this could be a burden on you, but this to protect you and your personal property during your stay... 2) I would also request from YOU:::::::: BEforeYou Leave:: To PLEASE a). try to keep the cottage clean. b). wash the towels you might have used. c). Also wash the bedding you might have used and remake those beds for my next AirBnB guests. d). Also If you would, place all trash in my Trash Bin by the outside entrance. I hope you try to treat my Home like it was your “HOME”!!!! My cottage has all require stuff- washer, dryer, vacuum and cleaning material. - - - - - - - - - - - - My cottage is a nice/one-of-a-kind place but not a “luxurious AirBnB chalet”.. So, If this is not an issue for you then:: WELCOME and ENJOY...!!!! If unfortunately, this is a problem, then please look for another AirBnB place nearby to stay!!!! - - - - - - - - LOAFERS GLORY IS BY CAR NOT THAT FAR FROM THE CENTER OF TOURISM IN THE N. C. MOUNTAINS SPRING SEASON (March- May) You can travel the Blue Ridge Pkwy (12 miles away), attend the Rhododendron Festival in Bakersville in June(5 miles away) go to Grandfather Mountain(28 miles away), visit Ashville(48 miles away) Go to the Biltmore Castle/Estate (visit the grounds and the Winery Store all free)etc..... SUMMER SEASON ( June-Sept.) So much more to do:: Nearby there is river walks & kids playgrounds both in Bakersville & downtown Spruce Pine. Nearby Highland Festival on Grandfather Mountain(28miles away)where they have the Highland Festival in July(there is a cost). • use location on the Airbnb map to get there. It is near railroad but it doesn't matter! I was 48hours there just 2 times the train passed! Great for the price! 7 people can stay in the cottage! And there are 6 separate beds! Ronald is really helpful and generous! *** wonderful VHS tapes collection ***

  • This stay was great! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a private stay in the mountains. Ron was very nice and accommodating. The house was very clean and had a beautiful view of the mountains and river from the back porch. Will definitely be coming back.

  • My boyfriend and I took my dog here to go hiking. The place was warm and cozy and in a perfect location! The property had plenty of space for my dog to run around, and is located right on a creek. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back! -Don’t miss the collection of VHS tapes!

  • This was the perfect place to escape from reality for a while and spend some quality time with my loved ones in a beautiful, natural landscape. We were able to hike on the local mountains and along the river that's right behind the house. Ronald was very attentive and gave us lots of friendly suggestions on activities to do. The place was spotless and they went above and beyond in maintaining the cleanliness. It was affordable and was able to handle all my family without raising the price drastically. This was also probably my dogs favorite trip we've ever been on, she loved being able to run loose outside with us. I highly recommend this place, you will create lasting memories here.

  • This is really an amazing place to stay at, right by the river, we couldn't have got a better place than this. Ron has an amazing collection of movies to enjoy and you'd be really glad he doesn't have WiFi there. Perfect place to get away from the daily life and enjoy nature here
