Half the money you pay goes to Friends of the Earth. Welcome to the Blue House on the Wild Atlantic Way in South West Donegal. (Eircode: F94 C796) Note that the house is between Kilcar and Carrick, Co. Donegal. This room can be arranged as a king size double, or a single. Shared upstairs bathroom. Large sitting room/dining room area is for the exclusive use of guests. A continental breakfast is provided.
Welcome to the tranquil Blue House. We trust you will have a relaxing stay. We will provide you with a continental breakfast – eat at any time (until 11 am). You have the exclusive use with other guests of the sitting room/dining room. The downstairs bathroom (including toilet) can be used by all guests. There are tea and coffee making facilities upstairs on the landing, and downstairs in the sitting room, where a variety of herbal teas are available. Please feel free to play DVDs on your own laptops. There are games in the cupboard next to the kitchen door … help yourself! The house is positioned to enjoy fabulous views of the Teelin estuary and Sliabh Liag mountain. Please feel free to explore the garden. There are many quirky seating areas, some on ‘aerial’ decks. The views are magnificent. Be careful on the decks in wet weather – they can be slippy. The central heating (especially in summer) will not be on. Most rooms have their own oil filled radiators. Please use sparingly! Please tell me if there are heating issues – both in room temperature or water temperature.
The area is great for water sports, walking and music. The Blue House is handy for Slieve League (spectacular cliffs), Portahowly beach (1km) – a great family beach, Mucross Head (beautiful beaches and atmospheric rocky headland), Glencolmcille (remote historic village, folk museum), Silver Strand at Malinbeg, and is a great centre for trips to Ardara (20 mins) and Killybegs (20 mins). Carrick (1 km), the local village, has two supermarkets, three pubs (two do meals), two take-aways. Kilcar (3 km) has four pubs, two supermarkets, Studio Donegal tweed outlet.

  • Amazing views and really special place to stay

    Becky2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • BOOK THIS PLACE! YOU WONT REGRET IT! This home is not only unique, and beautiful, it's a great break from the busy outside world. It's remote, but still plenty to do in nature. We stopped at a local store and brought food to cook there. Enjoyed a long walk toward Port, plenty of sheep to keep us company along the way. The town closest was about 25 min away and had great places to eat or grab a pint. Do yourselves a favor and sit outside on a clear night as well, the stars are breathtaking!!!! 10/10 we will be back as soon as we can!!!!

    Marcus2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great time there. The Hobbit Pot is really cozy and far from civilization. There are a few houses all around but you feel like they are deserted. The drive to the accommodation is an adventure. The accommodation is well equipped, everything is clean and the bed was very comfortable. Communication with Gary worked very well and quickly. Thanks to the great guest book there are also plenty of tips for great places. We can highly recommend the property.

  • It was very nice

    Alexandra2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a sweet little pod :) it's very well equipped with everything you need, and just perfect to enjoy few days of disconnection.. to connect again close to nature (and sheep). Lovely 🙏

    Marta2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay in the Cropod; the ultimate escape. Highly recommend to anyone. The local scenery is incredible and the pod itself is super cosy!

    Ethan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic few days away in the Cropod. Unbelievable scenery and the place itself was spotless. Great little kitchen and comfy bed. Some questionable DVD choices but that’s just personal preference! :) Waking up to the views and the local sheep was a personal highlight! I would recommend to all A+

    Adam2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived in the dark, watch out for the potholes in the road so drive slowly! When we woke up we couldn't believe the view. Absolutely breathtaking. From the bed you just saw mountains and a lake and even geese appeared and flew onto the lake. Plenty of sheep around the pod too. All very cute. The next day we went to Assaranca Waterfall, Ardara, Mount Charles, Donegal town and finally Portnoo for the sunset in the beach. It was so beautiful. The day of checkout we woke up and the lake was nearly completely frozen! We travelled to Sleibh League cliffs and after another pothole filled road got to the carpark and walked up. It was some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. We travelled back to Belfast through Killybegs, which was lovely too. Fantastic weekend. Would absolutely recommend the pod and will definitely be back.

A home from home with everything you need especially peace and quiet. Great location next to the wild atlantic way with stunning scenery especially the beach at Malin Begg and Glengesh. Thanks again Seamus.

Its a great location, only a short walk to Carrick village. Killybegs used to be famous for its prodcution of carpets, many of which are located in the stately homes of Ireland and the UK.
  • This house is fab. It is SO clean and so well finished inside. It is less than 10 minutes to a beautiful beach. Our stay was during coronavirus outbreak so nothing was open in Killybegs, but there were cute wee coffeeshops and restaurants we were hoping to try. The house was a real treat for my husband, 8 month and myself to self isolate in, with lots of beach walks. Thanks Tom

    Kathryn2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely stunning place to relax and unwind! Killybegs is just a beautiful spot!

    Hazel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was really nice. There is a small beach right in front of the front door and in the next village you can eat very well in the evening. The accommodation itself was nicer than expected and we would check back there anytime!

    David2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is our 3rd time staying at Tom's place in as many years, something that should speak for itself since we're from 4,000 miles away. The house definitely gives the feel of being at the beach, even when you don't get a chance to actually make it to the beach thanks to Mother Nature. It is situated just outside of a small harbor town with a well stocked Supervalu, and just a short drive to Slieve League (an absolute must see), St John's Lighthouse and Donegal Town. If you're someone that likes to get in the car and explore as we do, it's just over 2 hours from Malin Head (the most northern point in Ireland) with beautiful scenery on the way and absolutely gorgeous views once you get there. Check-in is always super easy which we much appreciate after flying overnight and drive from Dublin airport. I can't recommend staying here enough.

    Lorelei2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location close to Largy and Killybegs. Only 2minutes walk to the beach front. Plenty of areas to explore in the area and Tom and Sylvia provided lots of local information on where we might like to visit. The cottage had everything we could have possibly needed for our stay and the extra added touches including slippers etc were great! The cottage was spotlessly clean and well kept. Hopefully stay again in the future.

    Lesley2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic two night stay at Tom and Sylvias cottage. The cottage is pristine and in a great location, just 5 minutes from Killybegs and right beside the beach! Would love to visit again soon!!

    Christina2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely place to stay while exploring Donegal, no matter the weather. Tom and Sylvia were so helpful with absolutely everything. The house is a dream with everything you could possibly need. Highly recommend this place. Loved our stay. Thank you Tom and Sylvia.

On the Wild Atlantic Way, overlooking Sliabh Liag. This five bedroom modern cottage, built in a traditional style is situated on a high elevated private site with panoramic views of the Majestic Slieve League Mountain and Teelin Bay. It offers a very warm Céad Míle Fáilte to all it's guests.
The traditional Irish greeting 'Céad Míle Fáilte'- a hundred thousand welcomes - to our family home , which overlooks Teelin Bay and Europe's highest sea cliffs, Slieve League. As 'empty nesters' we are able to offer single, twin and double bedded accommodation - all of which have en-suite facilities. Our five bedded large cottage is built on an elevated site close to the premier fishing port of Killybegs, the picturesque area of Kilcar, Carrick and Glencolmcille and the weavers paradise of Ardara. Continental breakfast will be provided, beside the real turf fire, looking out over the bay and across to Slieve League. We will be happy to share our knowledge of the area with its unique history, the recommended walking trails, beaches, and make recommendations of the places frequented by locals, including an insight into our national sports!
Carols Cottage and family home is based near the village of Kilcar. Located in an unique and tranquil setting right in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way surrounded by miles of rugged coastline and unspoiled beaches It is an ideal location for walking, hill walking, fishing, sea angling, scuba diving, boat trips, cycling, horse riding, Golf or for a more relaxing pastime painting with some of the most wonderful scenes just waiting to be captured on our doorstep. There is something for everyone in the area including Oideas Gael which offers Irish language courses in a fun and informal setting, with the Glencolmcille Folk Village located right beside it for a look at the history of years gone by.
  • We enjoyed our stay at Carol‘s house. She welcomed us warmly with a cup of tea and throughout the stay we had nice conversations with her and her husband. We also enjoyed to give the lovely dog a lot of cuddles. During the night, however, it got a bit cold in our room because the heating was not sufficient. All in all, we had a pleasant stay.

    Eva2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing hospitality and a wonderful home. Really enjoyed my stay. Arrived on a dark wet December evening, greeted by smiling faces (that includes the dog) and a roaring fire. Highly recommended. Thanks

    Maeve2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Carol’s Cottage. Wonderful views, a great breakfast and a gracious host. A beautiful home set on a glorious hillside overlooking the Atlantic. It was a little tricky to find but with google maps and a few u-turns, it wasn’t a problem. As with all Irish destinations, it’s best to arrive in daylight as the Irish don’t typically light their streets at night. It’s in a perfect spot to hike and explore the Cliffs, with a street of small pubs and a few other little shops nearby to enjoy in the evening—really all you need for a lovely time! Clean, cozy and beautifully decorated. Thanks Carol!

    Judi2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location. Seamus and Carroll are the sweetest. We had a lovely time at their cottage. The view of slieve league was incredible. The location of the cottage was a little difficult to find. Kellybegs is about the last town before service drops in the hills. The location of the cottage is almost exactly where the marker is placed on the airbnb map. Follow the signs to the hostel and at that intersection, make a sharp, hairpin, right up the hill. The cottage is just near the top, there is a green fence and a stone entryway. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the location, and the amenities.

    Jake2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Carols cottage. Amazing hospitality! We were kindly greeted with a cup of coffee in front of the fireplace whilst looking out over the amazing views which surround the cottage. Carol and Seamus are truly pleasant and kind people who took great care of us and shared great tips of what to do in the general area! Seamus even drove us down to town for dinner so that we could have some drinks without having to drive ourselves! In the morning we were cooked a nice breakfast to start our day! Drive around the area and follow Carol and Seamus recommendations and we promise you won’t be disappointed! Highly recommend!

    Nora2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely views and an amazing home cooked breakfast. Hosts with lots of local tips.

    Stuart2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful house with wonderful hospitality & a tasty breakfast each morning. Comfortable bed. Great views. Highly recommend

    Kay2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Carol and Seamus were lovely people! Very kind and helpful, and made me feel at home! The room was comfortable and the amenities in general were nice. Carol made breakfast in the morning, which was very sweet and got me ready for the day! She also recommended I take a route through a national park up north, and it was absolutely worth the detour! So thanks for the recommendation :-) Their place was a little hard to find - I was nervous about seeing the signs at night so I used the GPS coordinates which I DON'T RECOMMEND! It will get you lost, so follow Patrick's directions. Overall a very nice stay and a great location next to Slieve League!

This property is an ideal getaway as its location offers all the benefits of country, coastal(300 meters to beach) living and is a short distance (1.5km) from the shops and restaurants of Killybegs.
The scenery is breathtaking. With private access to 3 beach coves that open onto Fintragh beach (blue flag). Untouched wildlife including birds of prey, otters, coastal birds, seals, dolphins and if you are very patient you might catch a glimpse of a puffin! In addition to its natural edge it has been at the very hub of historical events with neighbouring fields accommodating ring forts, neolithic tombs, waters sailed on by vessels that participated in the Spanish armada and on the beach at the foot of our land (near cove 2) a B-17 flying fortress crashed and submerged in the sands during 1944 (all survived). Or just simply fish mackerel, crab and lobster from the headlands.
Local Pier , Kayaking, Cycling, Mountains, Fishing, Walking, Beaches, Surfing, Bird Watching and much much more.

  • We had a lovely stay in David and Tina's beautiful cottage and were very cozy despite the raging storms! Our hosts were very helpful and communicative and being welcomed by a glowing fire was a lovely touch in freezing February. The setting was absolutely stunning and we would certainly recommend this place.

  • The house is very lovely, clean, neat, very well equipped with kitchen appliances, board games, smart TV. Beds are very comfortable, easy to find the house, absolutely easy to check in and check out using the key locker. Location is perfect for Slieve league visit, the Carrick village has Indian and Chinese food takeaways, nice fish and chips, 2 grocery stores and pub with live music. Just a small tip: if you plan to cook your food at the house, take with you essentials as oil/salt etc. Complimentary tea, coffee, milk and cookies were there, thanks a mil for them! It was very nice of hosts. Even though we haven't met Mary, she was extremely responsive and helpful. Highly recommend this house to stay while visiting Donegal

The beds were extremely comfortable and the place was sparking clean. We enjoyed breakfast in the morning too! Would highly recommend this place if you are traveling to Donegal. We will definitely be back!

Situated along the Wild Atlantic Way, overlooking the picturesque village of Carrick, the gateway to Slieve League. Tastefully decorated and comfortable, it is ideal for a quiet getaway, a chance to chill and escape the hustle and bustle of life.
The house is a 2 minute walk from the village which consists of two convenience stores and a few pubs, a post office, etc.
  • Lovely spacious & comfortable house in Carrick, great base to explore Slieve League, Glencolmcille and surrounding area with stunning scenery and great beaches. The house is equipped with everything you need. Michael gave us some good recommendations regarding sightseeing in the local area. We dined in The Rusty Mackerel, Teelin and Nancys in Ardrara, both were lovely and reasonably priced. The Cistin in Glencolmbille is also a very nice café / restaurant.

Less than a mile to Slieve League! On the Wild Atlantic Way
Small old Irish cottage tucked away in rural Donegal. Super close to the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Perfect for exploring Donegals natural beauty. The house is fully equipped. And we live 2 minutes away to help you with anything while you stay here. The house is heated by a stove which also heats the water! Please note this is a cottage not a mansion. We do not supply food but we do have tea and coffee available in the house.
Great neighbors great views We are less than a mile to the cliffs. Walking to bunglas view point is about 20/30 minutes or a 5 minute drive. Being away from it all. Closest shop 3 miles away surrounded by hills and sheep!
  • Cat's place is exactly as described and more. It was impeccably clean. Cat was very welcoming too with great local knowledge. Wonderful cosy front room with the fire which was a pleasure to laze in front of on a rainy day. Location close to fantastic hiking routes and of course Slieve League cliffs which we were lucky enough to have a clear March day for. I feel like many tourists coming to Ireland would love to experience staying in an Irish cottage. If you are one of those I would look no further than this place! The cottage itself feels like it is steeped in history and tending to the stove fire adds even more to the experience. Absolutely no question about giving a 5 star rating!

    Ed2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Slieve League Cottage is a charming, rustic cottage close to the Slieve League Cliffs viewing area. The Rusty Mackeral restaurant & bar nearby was charming and the food was excellent. Cat, the host, was extremely responsive and helpful. We highly recommend this cottage.

  • It was a wonderful home with comfortable sleeping arrangements. We loved the suggestion to hike up Slieve league path, great way to start a morning.

  • Irish-style cottage, well-kept and clean location, exceptional location for visiting the cliffs. Kind and precise host in communications. Recommended!

  • What a great location, short walk up to the cliffs, Cat was so very helpful when we had an issue with our car, would recommend.

    Stephen2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cat’s place was very comfortable. We were very happy that Cat had prepared the place with a blazing fire as it was January. It’s the best spot to explore Slieve League and we were lucky enough to get up and spot a very clear sunrise. Thanks Cat

    Douglas2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was great, the house has 3 rooms with total for 6 people! Full equipped with everything you would need! Good fireplace to relax in front of! And it's like 5 minutes or less to slieve liege! 100% recommended!

  • If you read Cats review of her own place that is exactly what you get. If you want to stay in an Irish cottage handy to slieve league then look no further. We went mid winter and Cat had the house lovely and warm for us. Very clean and the bed was comfortable

    Teelin, Carrick Donegal, Ireland

Under the Eves is a unique way to experience Kilcar with majestic views of Teelin Bay and Slieve League Cliffs while on your delightful journey of the Wild Atlantic Way. It is private, cozy and compact and is a wonderful stand alone space with separate entry. It accommodates two people and this space can also be used as an add on to Greenhills Cottage.
Slieve League Cliffs, local beach nearby and 1.3km from bars and restaurants.
  • When our inn canceled reservations due to the pandemic, we looked to see what options were left on AirBnb and chose this one. So glad we did — the hosts responded quickly and were patient with us as we made our way over to their area. Our GPS took us to the wrong side of the property but Seamus met us in town and led us back. The place was filled with fresh laundry smell and was very cute — seaside cottage themed. The water was hot in the morning and the coffee was great. A little fridge included. Can see the bay and ocean from the kitchen window. Perfect place to stay somewhere quiet while checking out the Sliabh Liag!

    Kilcar, County Donegal, Ireland

Half the money you pay goes to Friends of the Earth. Welcome to the Blue House on the Wild Atlantic Way in South West Donegal. (Eircode: F94 C796) Note that the house is between Kilcar and Carrick, Co. Donegal. Upstairs room with private access from garden upper deck. Features twin or superking double bed (please specify). Has private upper deck with commanding views of estuary and Slieve League. Shared bathroom.
  • Absolutely fantastic Airbnb! The bed has to be one of the most comfortable beds I've slept on at an Airbnb, we had a superb two nights of sleep especially after a long day of hiking. The location is absolutely stunning, with our rooms opening out to a terrace, we were able to star gaze at night. In the morning you wake up to the Slieve League cliffs and the drive to the cliffs is about 10 mins. The house is equipped with everything you need plus books and board games. We didn't get a chance to meet our hosts in person, but the communication was spot on with detailed instructions for everything plus thoughtful check-ins to ensure our stay was going smoothly. All in all this was great value and highly recommend staying here.

  • Beautiful and tranquil place for those who are looking for peace and quiet. Gorgeous views of the river and mountains. The house has beautiful deck where you can sit and relax watching the wild. The town is about 20 min walk. David is a great host, quickly responded to all messages. Hope to comeback again.

    Rasa2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place is a really beautiful hidden gem with a very great view and a lovely garden. David really made an effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible, giving us tips on what to do even with bad weather. He even took us to a nice local pub in Kilcar where they played live music! He also helped us out on getting our car fixed and did wait up for us even though we arrived quite late on our first night. We would’ve loved to stay longer and can only recommend staying at David’s.

    Sophia2019-08-22T00:00:00Z

Overlooking Teelin estuary, this quiet and comfortable home provides a secluded getaway with a great view. Just a couple of minutes drive from Carrick, and a short drive to Slieve League cliffs. A great base location to explore the beautiful routes and beaches of the area. The Rusty Mackerel pub is also within easy walking distance. With an outdoor veranda overlooking the bay, and its own sauna inside, this is the perfect place to recharge your batteries and experience the best of Donegal.
There are also 2 fold-up beds in the house so that up 6 people can stay. There is a travel baby cot and stair guards for those with children. (The garden has a steep entrance so children would need to be accompanied).
Take a stroll to the left along the river path to Carrick for a coffee, or down the right past The Rusty Mackerel and onto Teelin harbour. Or make your way by car (or hike for the adventurous!) up to the spectacular cliffs of Slieve League. Or take one of the beautiful drives, out towards Malin More and Malin Beg with the horseshoe Silver Strand beach, or the short seafront drive to Kilcar, or further out to Glencolumkille, or Ardara and Maghera beach.
  • Great location. Lovely property.

Such a brilliant addition. Large comfy beds and so peaceful and quiet. Walking distance to the pub, where u can get dinner or after 9pm pizza. U can even get a pint of guiness with your photo on the head!! Really close to go hiking around Slieve League cliffs. Highly recommend this place and will definitely stay again.

  • Had a lovely stay at John and Aileen’s house. The place had a beautiful sea view to watch the sunset/sunrise. It’s spacious and the hidden gem of the property has to be the sauna! It was the perfect way to warm up after a dip in the sea. Noreen was lovely and had the fire made up for us on arrival. Would love to have stayed for longer! Will recommend to others - very close to slieve league cliffs too!

  • Had an amazing time here. Beautiful studio with plenty of space and an excellent kitchen, shower and the comfiest beds. Lovely location, we really felt like we were in the wilderness. Highly recommend visiting Slieve League Cliffs, they were incredible! And just around the corner from the Airbnb. They provided all of the lovely finishing touches we needed and had an amazing book with lots of tips and things to do in the local area.

    Eilis2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great 2 nights in Beatrice’s studio. The bed was really comfy and the space in general was amazing. It was warm, spotless and really lovely.

  • We stayed at Tara’s place for 2 nights and it was extremely cosy and comfortable! Everything we required was provided. The design itself is indeed very scandinavian and we really loved how simple it was! Inside it was never cold (well insulated) and the bathroom and shower were perfect! Enjoyed the Netflix when we got back to relax for the night and took full advantage of it! :) I suggest taking a look outside at night too into the sky to see the stars, it was very beautiful sight and the views around the area too although more so for during the day! Anyways no complaints, and we recommend anyone looking for a stay in Kilcar to consider this as the one! Thanks very much again!

The Escape - The Times: Best Irish Cottage Recently under new management, The Sunday Times selected this coastal cottage as the Best in Ireland. Fantastic mountain location overlooking 'your' lake, walking distance to beach & village. WIFI is included, the cottage sleeps 4 and dogs are allowed for an additional fee to be paid during your stay.
  • Wow, what a wonderful place with outstanding beauty steeped in the genuine wildness of Donegal. If peace and quiet with a little remoteness is what your looking for - hands down this is the place. If a traditional cottage had a story to tell, well I’m sure this one has many. An amazingly clean house with all the mod con which very quickly turns into your home for the duration of your stay. You’ll be hoping for a powerful Atlantic storm to blow across-the rolling hills so as you can experience the coziness of this littler abode, while a turf fire blazes, to warm your soul while you sip on an Irish single pot still whiskey. No tv required or WIFI necessary, but are both available, but just enjoy the stay for what it is and the opportunity to enjoy the simple life. Will definitely be back very soon.

  • What a place! We are sitting at home now wondering if it was all a dream! It is the ultimate escape. The cottage is very cosy and so clean. Gary has thought of everything you may need on your trip. This cottage is very remote which is its charm so come well prepared with food, fire wood a good book and you’re all set for a totally relaxing weekend. The walk to Port is an hour each way but it is beautiful, scenic and highly recommended. Bring your winter wollies and wet gear if you are going to go exploring. We really hope to be back in the summer!

  • This cottage exceeded my expectations! If you’re looking for a tranquil, cozy and historic Irish experience in a remote location then Gary’s cottage is the place for you. The closest shop is not close...so bring all your own food to cook (the kitchen is fully equipped). We brought our dog and he loved being taken for walks around the area., we had his bed right the fire which he loved and refused to get out of. A trip worth mentioning as well is heading to Maghera Beach. It’s a massive beach that we had literally all to ourselves. Overall brilliant stay and would stay again!

    Caroline2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is such an amazing place! The cottage itself and the location are spectacular. Such beautiful scenery. The cottage has everything you need, we brought enough food that we didn’t leave the cottage except to go for walks. Really great place if you’re looking for a relaxing break. Gary is an excellent host. We had some car trouble and he responded straight away to help us. Even advised us what roads to take to avoid the snow! Absolute gem of a place!

  • Amazing hospitality, very clean, comfortable room, with the use of a well appointed kitchen, in a scenic area, with lots of places to visit.

    Jenny2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Super nice room with bathroom plus kitchen you can use. Things for breakfast gabs too. Parking directly in the yard available. Ann Marie & Michael are super friendly hosts. We would come back anytime!

    Nadine2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We were warmly welcomed by Ann Marie and Michael. The room is very nice and as there were no other guests we had the common room for ourselves.

    Lenija2018-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, with a nice common area. Set on a hill with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Most importantly Ann Marie and Micheal were quintessential friendly Irish people. Friendly. Loquacious. Full of useful information, history, advice, etc. Good folks!

    Adam2018-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice room with private bath, community kitchen with Ann Maries garden all around. Very clean, comfortable. Not a lot of room for parking, but it works. Just not recommend a large vehicle. But that goes for everyplace in the UK! And Europe...

    Patricia2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay in Kilcar. It had everything we needed. Thank you again Ann Marie.

    Olivia2018-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in Annies Secret Garden with my partner, mid August 2018 for one night. Anne-Marie & her partner Michael are fantastic hosts - they are very accommodating, helpful with tips on the local area, easy to talk too and a pleasure to be around. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower in our en-suite was great quality and spacious, and we were provided with some toiletries and clean towels. The decor in the room was also great, with lots of natural light coming in during the day to brighten the room up. The strong natural light carried on into the common area (shared with 1 other double room) which was a small space consisting of a kitchen, stocked with some staple foods, cutlery and plenty of cooking utensils. There was a lounger, couch and dining table - we had the common area to ourselves during our stay but there would of been ample room for us all if we had shared it with other guests. The ambience in the common room was great, all the furniture was decorated and painted by Anne-Marie who did a great job at it and created a clear bright space that manages to maintain it's look on even a dull rainy day. All in all the two of us had a great time here and will be sure to try and stay again!

Beautiful Old World Stone Cottage on the grounds of historic Killaghtee House overlooking St. Johns Point with its lighthouse, ancient ruins and sandy beaches. You will love the open plan space, patio and lovely gardens that go with it. Check out our listing "The Artist's Cottage" too.
This beautiful stone cottage is located on the grounds of historic Killaghtee House overlooking St. Johns Point, which was built in 1856. There is a heater fitted in this room for your comfort. There are spare pillows, towels and linen provided in the wardrobe. You can see the gardens to the rear and views across the courtyard and towards St. Johns Point and the sea from the front window of this room. Meenasillagh sits beside its own stream & waterfall. The new open plan living room & sleeping area has floor to ceiling windows and stunning views. Our nearest neighbour is way over the hill so you'll be completely undisturbed during your stay. The cottage and water is heated by stove using turf/ wood. A complimentary bag of each will be available on arrival. The kitchen and shower room are modern and well equipped. There's a gas-powered fridge.
This is a delightful secluded Eco-cottage renovated and cared for by the Woods family since 1978. With original stone cottage whitewashed rooms and a modern spacious extension visitors can enjoy old and new living spaces. Type 'meenasillagh donegal blog' into your search engine for a history of the cottage, lots more photographs and information about the area. We have our own spring. It's a fantastic resource. The crystal clear water arrives out of the mountain right beside the cottage and supplies us by way of a newly fitted solar pump. The place sleeps 6. There's a choice of beds. The two double and single half loft bed are supplemented by a settle-bed with sheepskin mattressing. It comfortably sleeps a couple of kids and it's always been our kids #1 sleeping spot. There's a fold-out 'click clack' bed if you prefer to use it. This is fantastic walking country. Set off in any direction from the cottage and you won't be disappointed. There's expansive mountain, sea and valley-scape to find yourself in - or get a little bit lost in. Kids always have a great time here mucking around in the waterfall, shallow stream and pools beside the house or venturing into the surrounding countryside. We don't fish (except off Paddy Byrne's sightseeing boat at Teelin) but there are lakes galore in the area and the sea is just down the road. There are rods and tackle at the cottage if you want to try your hand. The poet Dylan Thomas and artist Rockwell Kent both spent time living in a converted cow shed in nearby Glenlough valley (see photos) Kent went there to paint; Thomas was trying to dry out. The cottage has excellent 3G mobile phone reception so if you need to you can stay in touch with the outside world via the net. You can charge devices using the house solar charger but we recommend you bring your own battery pack as backup. We had the opportunity to connect the cottage to the national grid 20 years ago but at Meenasillagh we prefer to keep things as low tech as they've always been. No TV is a big plus as far as we're concerned. This is a place where you can truly escape information saturation and the effect is fantastic - time seems to slow down here and a few days somehow feel like a packed week. There are small rechargeable solar lights in the cottage but we mostly use candles (suplied) and the light of the fire. There's no bin collection in Port valley so you’re expected to remove your rubbish, recyclables and any perishable food left over from your stay. There are recycling containers near Glencolmcille. It's up to you if you want to leave scraps out for the local fox and badger population (see blog 'flora & fauna' page for video of badgers at the cottage) There's no vacuum/ cleaner in the cottage or the valley for that matter so we need a firm commitment from every guest to leave the place as clean and tidy as you found it. For anyone unfamiliar with washing up in this age of the dishwasher there's a sud by sud description in the cottage user manual of how to do that. The stone and tile floors are very easy to sweep/ mop and the stove's back boiler will give you plenty of hot water for washing up. All bedding, tea towels and house towels are provided. If you want extra large beach towels you'll need to bring those with you. Our laundry is done in nearby Ardara town and guests will need to collect bedding from the lovely, computer brained Margaret at Ardara Dry Cleaning & Laundrette and return it on departure. For more info and contact details please find us on our social media account that's known by the letters F & B! - our 'handle' is Meenasillagh Donegal. Feel free to get in touch if you have any queries.
The valley has less than 6 inhabitants - that's fewer than when we first visited in 1977 which we think is pretty special. Port - the stone beach and harbour - is a 10 minute drive down the valley. It's a great place to go for a picnic and an afternoon's exploring. From there you can walk across the mountain to Glencolmcille - it takes about an hour and 20 minutes. The thought of a glass of whatever you're having yourself at Roarty's bar makes the journey fly. By road Glencolmcille is a 23 minute drive away. For information on shops/ hospitals and other nearby amenities please visit our blog: meenasillagh donegal blog. There is a house information folder for guests at the cottage containing lots of useful stuff about pubs/ food/ beaches/ atms etc.
  • "This must be the place" If you really want to get away from it all, this is the place for you. This very clean and cozy cottage with equally cozy extension is fully equipped, although there is no electricity you will not miss it! The surrounding views from the big windows are amazing. The 2 hour walk to and from the sea was to say the least breathtaking, if this is how it is in the winter we can't imagine how it is in the summer, we will be back to find out, for sure. Our super host Jonathan couldn't have been more attentive, leaving the fires set to be lit on arrival and lots of turf, all his instructions were faultless and very useful. Thank you!!

    Paolo2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Majestic location, cosy cottage, fully stocked kitchen, lovely host. If you need to 'un-plug' this cottage is great. The solar lights provided give you hours to cook, play games and clean up at night if need be. There is 5-bar reception for phone calls and data(if you need to post that insta-moment the same day). The scenery is spectacular. We went in November so it took the cottage a day to warm up with the stoves. Once it did it was very comfortable for the rest of the trip. A memorable trip...

    Eamon2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • If you are up for a wilderness adventure then this is the place for you. We went in early November with three children and I was a little apprehensive about long dark evenings with no electricity. But actually once the fire and the candles were lit and the head torches were on it was super atmospheric and I found myself actually looking forward to it getting dark! Superb location with incredible walks from the door. Our four year old managed to climb the hill behind the cottage, climbing up alongside the waterfall, and we circumnavigated the little lake on the top of the hill. We also went for a lovely walk down by the coast, though we didn't make it all the way to Glemcolumbkille which I would have loved to have done (next time!) Amazing communication from Jonathon - the most thoughtful host that I've ever had but never met!!

    Joanna2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is a off-grid dream come true. You’ll have a huge area to yourself and can go wherever you want and explore, which isn’t standard for Ireland.

    Jonas2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really special air bnb close to one of the most beautiful and off the beaten track parts of the wild atlantic way. It is ideal for people who really want to switch off and immerse themselves in the sounds and smells of nature without electricity and artificial noise. Make sure to pack hillwalking boots as the ground underfoot can be muddy and wet, a head torch for reading- the candlelight can be a challenge for older eyes and cosy socks and slippers for those nights by the fire. The nearest shop is about 10km away so make sure to come with some supplies. We are so pleased that the Woods Family have shared their beautiful space and can't wait to come back again and again.

    Caoimhe2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical. It really is very remote and wild but we loved it. You can see waterfalls from every window! The house has been so well thought out and everything you need to make life comfortable in an off the third cottage is their! Jonathon took time to write us thoughtful tips and ideas of what to do which was great. The kitchen is great for cooking! Some tips from us would be - bring slippers or warm socks, and if you have a low car and it’s wet we found it easier to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk the few minutes up to the house than to try and drive up the wet gravel and then turn round! Thanks again Jonathan and family for opening this hideaway up to the public :)

    Elfie2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathan's eco-cottage exceeded my expectations. Situated high in the spectacular Port Valley with it's own waterfall, "off-grid" is both literally and figuratively fitting. There is no electricity, but the cottage is so well-insulated and well-stocked that this feels like a plus. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is modern, the cottage is spacious and the views are amazing. Jonathan was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

    Bastiaan2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing getaway, unreal views just relax and chill. Just be prepared for a true off grid experience. We loved our stay definitely will go back when we need another detox from the modern world. Be sure to stop for supplies on the way and oysters in Ardara 😁

This tastefully restored formed Sheep Farmer's cottage is ideal base for your visit to Donegal. Located on the Wild Atlantic Way just outside the village of Kilcar with Sleive League to the West and Killybegs and Donegal town to the south. This is an ideal place to settle into for a night or two and return to each evening after visiting the beautiful Donegal countryside. There are wonderful views from the cottage of Sleive League (Sliabh Liag) beyond.
A Chef's Kitchen with dining area and spectacular views, comfortable beds, central heating and a wood burning stove in the peaceful living room will ensure that you will love being here as much as I do.
The small village of Kilcar is in a Gaelteacht (Irish speaking) area but rest assured the locals all speak English as well! A small supermarket, a selection of bars all within walking distance or a short drive away from the cottage... Muckross Head is just a short walk away, the village centre is about 10 minutes walk and of course the location is ideal for day trips by car around this very special part of Donegal.
  • The location is amazing. Highly recommend this place.

  • Franks home exceeded expectations. The location was so quiet and peaceful. I found a real zen space. Between the breathtaking views of the wild Atlantic way , the sheep that would come and visit , the proximity to one of the cutest and friendliest little villages. The stay was aces. I had a fire in the wood stove at night and the next morning cooked a big Irish breakfast while watching the water out one window and the sheep out the other. When I come back to Ireland , I’ll be looking up this home again. Definitely must visit Slieve League while there as well. Very short ride About 20 mins if that.

    Maria2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay in the cottage before our trip to Sliabh Liag. We stayed during the bad weather and had such a cozy stay in front of the stove looking out at the amazing views. Franks communication with us was excellent also. We will definitely be back in the future.

    Caoimhe2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had an absolutely fantastic stay at Franks place. The location is stunning and the cottage is perfect for a few days in Donegal. We will definitely be back. The decor is exactly right and there isn’t much better than eating breakfast with that view. Frank looked after us from start to finish. Brilliant!

  • Wonderful spot. Just what we wanted. Secluded, cosy, all about the location.

  • Betty's cottage was so cozy and clean. Just as listed! It has everything we needed for our stay and the beds offered a great night's sleep. We never met Betty unfortunately but she was always so responsive and kind. Wish our cottage stay was longer!

    Elisha2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a great spot to stay in the Donegal peninsula. The house is only about a 2 minute drive to the gates for Slieve League which is worth a trip up to see. The place was very clean and cozy. Betty was great to communicate with and Anne left the key for us before our arrival. Would highly recommend staying here.

    Jason2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Betty’s place is really close to the beautiful Slieve League viewing area, which is a must see. Very clean and spacious. Betty is a great host and responds very quickly. We would stay here again!

    Ron2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • A gem of a cottage in a beautiful location. Couldn’t recommend Betty’s cottage highly enough!

    Kate2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing. 1/2 mile up the road is the beginning of the slieve league which rivals the cliffs of Moher with its beauty and with much less tourists. 1/2 mile down the road the Rusty Mackerel a place that won pub of the year in 2018. The cottage itself is rustic looking outside, modern on the inside. You're on the beginning of the mountain so there is much scenery walking in out of the cottage. Love the location and the amenities provided. Highly recommend.

    Kevin2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the cottage while visiting family in the area, so we were aware how close the cottage was to the beautiful Slieve League. However, it still takes my breath away every time we go there! The cottage is within walking distance to the sea cliffs on one side and on the other the Teelin tearooms and Rusty Makeral pub/restaurant. The Rusty is a must do for a sing song, seafood and a pint or three! A perfectly clean and well renovated traditional cottage we felt warm and comfortable in. A wet room shower, open turf fire, comfortable beds and a kitchen with all you need for self catering. I'm sure we will book again one day soon. Thank you.

  • Thank you very much. Great place. Very nice rooms. Tasty breakfast. :-)

  • Wonderful b&b. Great breakfast, Ken told us about live music at the local pub on sunday night and it was a very good experience.

    Sam2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Best breakfast in Ireland!

    Kate2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kenneth's B&B is great. You could not get a better location for hiking the Slieve League Cliffs. Great location for traveling the WAW through Donegal. The space was clean and warm. Breakfast was amazing. Highly Recommend. Paul

    Paul2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kenneths B&B is amazing! It's exactly what you would expect from an Irish B&B. The surroundings are beautiful, the breakfast is great and the people are warm and welcoming. For breakfast there was a lot of choice also healthy things what's really nice. And it's so close to slieve league. If the weather would have been better we would have walked up there. And the staff gave great information about the local things.

    Desiree2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a LOVELY B&B right by the Slieve League cliffs. I cannot recommend this place more - the breakfast was hearty and delicious, the actual B&B is so nice and clean and welcoming. 100% recommend. Just do it.

    Travis2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This B&B is better than we expected and is perfectly located close to Slieve League. Although it is close enough to walk to Slieve League, it is still quite a hike and we would only walk if the weather was good. We walked to The Rusty Mackerel for dinner and a couple of pints as recommended and the food was good but the people were great! The walk back is mostly up hill and we were the only people from the B&B to walk. Not that difficult for us but walking would not be for everyone. Ken was a great host and the room was spacious which is not usually the case in Europe. We absolutely recommend staying here when visiting Slieve League!
