There is an artisan bakery, award winning butchers, gentleman's tailor, art gallery, antiques shop and cafes.

  • Our third visit to this wonderful cottage and again, unlikely to be our last, wonderful location and the place was stunning and clean as usual. This time we managed to find a few nice beaches and a brilliant restaurant in Castle Douglas.

  • Wonderful stay in a beautiful area. The cottage itself is stylishly decorated with lots of thoughtful touches, including g&ts on arrival (which were yummy and much appreciated!). The place is well equipped with all the cooking essentials you would need. Everything in the property is high quality and made our stay very comfortable. The views from the cottage are a joy to wake up to and we enjoyed a few days mountain biking around the area. Castle Douglas is only a 10 minute drive away which has a large supermarket, including lots of independent shops to walk around. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back and am already planning our next visit! It’s been an absolute pleasure to stay there.

  • Beth’s Bothy is a fantastic snug which has been very well designed to maximise the space. It has everything you would need for a relaxing few days away including cooking facilities, TV, wifi and an amazing hot tub. There are lots of walks nearby and some lovely restaurants and pubs in Gatehouse of Fleet which is about a 15 - 20 minute walk away through the woods or on the main road. The snug was very clean and the hot tub is checked daily by the host and drained and refilled after each visit. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub each night and looking up to the stars which were crystal clear. Even in the low February temperatures, the hot tub stayed consistently warm and lovely. The host also left some home baked scones and fresh flowers for our arrival which was a great touch and very much appreciated. All in all, this is a great place to stay and we highly recommend it!

Escape from it all at this simple secluded, cosy cottage with stunning views, perfect for couples or families. Kids have space to make dens, climb trees and toast marshmallows. In the evening curl up by the fire, play board games or read a book. This is your own secluded holiday cottage set 1/2 mile up a track away from the main road and no other houses around. Whilst there is no internet or TV, there is a DvD player and you can get limited mobile access (vodafone and 02). Keys are in key safe. Once you have confirmed you will see the number. You have the run of the whole cottage and garden (except the caravan and shed which the owner keeps as storage). Although we don't live close by, we have family in the vicinity who can assist if there are any issues. Just call me on +(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) if there are any problems. Dogs - we're happy for 1 or 2 well behaved dogs, but please keep them off the furniture. The garden is not dog proof and there are sheep, cattle and horses in the neighbouring fields so they need to be kept under close control. However there is a nice walk down to the sea (over main road), where dogs can be let off the lead, and there are numerous great walks a short drive away. Rubbish collection - recycling bins at the bottom of the track (by the main road), are emptied on a Thursday morning. Please put your rubbish there the night before. Ruined castles, beautiful gardens, mountain biking, sandy beaches, lovely villages are all within a 30 minute drive of the cottage. Although there is a bus stop 1.5 miles away in Carsluith village, buses are very infrequent and you are advised to bring a car. The cottage is accessed by a rough track 1/2 mile from the main road (A75). It is perfectly accessible by a normal car, but do take care. Some firewood and coal is supplied, but please use sparingly. There's also a BBQ you can use (please bring own coal). Our children (11&9) love playing in the woods using the rope swing, making dens, lighting bonfires and using the zip wire. You are most welcome to do the same at your own risk. Please ensure your children are adequately supervised. The nearest shops are in Gatehouse (8 miles) or Creetown (3 miles). There are lots more tips and information in the cottage.

  • We had a lovely stay at the very cosy cottage. Perfect location to relax and explore in Galloway during the day and sit back and look at the stars at night! Thanks

    Tom2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic base for exploring the Galloway Forest and nearby seaside towns. Easy to find from the main road, even if the track is extremely bumpy to say the least... make sure you take it slow ! A very cosy cottage, with wood supplied for the open fire. A lovely touch with the gift of wine on our arrival ! The kitchen and bathroom are very basic, but clean and sufficient enough for a few days away - you will need to bring your own milk/bread/supplies etc as there is nothing left at the cottage. Lots of suggestions for places to visit dotted around the rooms ! Apart from tonnes of board games, there is only a DVD player for 'electronic' entertainment, no live TV or Wi-Fi (which was fantastic for us) so make sure you bring some of your own DVD's to the cottage as the ones supplied are mainly children's ones :) Thank you Stephen & Kate for letting us stay at your holiday cottage, from Bonnie, Simon and Juno (woof woof) x

  • This place is even better than you can see in the pictures. The outside space is incredible. The cottage has its own private woodland. Our kids (6 and 9) had a great time exploring the woods, playing on the rope swing and zip line and playing in the den. There are great walks directly from the cottage, and many more just a short drive away. The cottage itself is cosy and well-equipped (including plenty of games, books, toys, jigsaws and DVDs). Every room has a beautiful sea-view. The hosts were extremely helpful and quick to respond (even on the day when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the cottage). Highly recommend this place and hope to go back sometime soon.

  • Wonderful place to explore the beauty of Dumfries and Galloway

    Chris2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful, glorious place with amazing views! Everywhere you look is beautiful- even the drive was lovely. We had lovely weather, and watching the sunset and stars was just amazing from the cottage and down at the beach (which we easily walked to). Honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough- if you're looking for a secluded break in a cozy, fire-warmed cottage with fantastic views, this is your best bet. FYI, the other reviewers aren't kidding about the road- it's pretty rough (though I agree it should be suitable for any car), and it is best to go very slow (like, first gear). Also, pick up some condiments such as salt and oil before you get there if you plan on cooking so you don't have to make an extra trip on the road and can just build a fire and relax in all the rural glory of the place.

    Lora2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect location for exploring the stunning Galloway Forest Park. The cottage was so cosy and secluded and provided everything we needed.

    Rachel2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, the view is so breathtaking that it is worth a trip just for it ! Ideal if you want to spend the weekend away from everything.

  • This was a cosy and warm hidden away space with a fantastic view of the surrounding village and area. Everything we needed was there. Bed was super comfortable and shower airy and spacious-with all the toiletries you could wish for. Had a black folder with great local walks clearly set out with pictures. We went on 2 of them and followed them to the letter. They were very beneficial. Warm and welcoming host.

  • Lovely house. Great host

  • Had a great stay here. Place was big enough for ten of us and it is a lovely part of the country. Thought it was good value, it’s a bit run down and could have been cleaner but does the job. Neighbours were a bit difficult one of them came round accusing us of walking through their garden but it must have been one of the other rental properties on the estate. Overall had a really good weekend.

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning old-style property with plenty of room - we had a party of 10 - and access to local beaches and lovely walks. Nice and secluded and very homely

    John2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Groom’s House! Ten of us stayed for Christmas and had an amazing time. Lots of space for everyone to socialise together or separately. Plenty of sleeping space and the best appointed kitchen I’ve ever had in a rental. Christmas dinner for 10 was a breeze. Location is beautiful and we had several short walks to the beach, which really is just a few minutes walk. Brilliant instructions for everything in the house so we were able to make the most of it. Would definitely recommend.

  • A great space for big families in a beautiful area of Scotland. We loved our stay. Tim was very hospitable.

  • A calm and relaxing place to stay with its old world charm. A short walk to the sea. A lovely place for a family gathering.

    Rosanne2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • 10 of us enjoyed a comfortable stay at Tim’s place! The communal living and kitchen spaces were especially great for our large group. The location is great for exploring this area of Scotland and we made use of the short walk (25 mins) to the beach every evening as it was really lovely! Check-in for us was simple and easy and we enjoyed being left to our own devices! Only concerns were that the washing machine and dishwasher leaked whilst we were there which caused some problems. Also the games room isn’t really usable at the moment which was a shame! Otherwise, thanks for a great stay Tim :)

    Borgue, Kirkcudbright, Galloway, United Kingdom

Located in the Artists’ Town of Kirkcudbright, in south west Scotland, 67 St. Mary Street was built in 1878. It was then a large fashionable shop, at one time a drapery, and the upper floors contained elegant town houses for the shop owners and their family. The lower street level has since been converted to three retail outlets, one of which is a gallery for a local artist cooperative. The upper floors remain residential.
67(b)2, an eaves flat, comprising 1 double bedroom with fitted wardrobe, and a spacious well appointed living/dining room with fitted kitchen, would be ideally suited to a couple. There is a WC with electric shower. In addition it is equipped with free WIFI and SMART TV. The property is superbly located, being in the heart of the picturesque and sometimes bustling, little fishing town. The harbour is only two minutes away. On street parking is free.
St Mary Street is also home to the newly established multi million pound Kirkcudbright Art Gallery and to Kirkcudbright Museum both within a five minute walk. Two minutes more will take you to the historic High Street area, home of several listed buildings including The Tolbooth, also a gallery, and to the National Trust for Scotland property of Broughton House, one time home, garden and studio to the artist E. A. Hornel. There are several other galleries within the town.
  • We loved our stay in Kirkcudbright and Iain's flat was a perfect base. Small and cosy with all you need at an affordable price.

    Clive2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great location excellent price

  • Nice quiet place to stay. Great value for money.

    Stephen2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Iain’s space is easily found and in an ideal spot for exploring Kirkcudbright and Galloway. It is clean and tidy and we particularly enjoyed the bed which was extremely comfortable. The flat which has all the facilities that you need for an enjoyable stay is close to the centre of Kirkcudbright but we had no trouble parking very close-by. Shops and all other facilities are also close.

    Stewart2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodation and in an ideal location. The flat is very self contained having everything you would want and for our visit over New Year we were nice and warm. The location is central to Kirkcudbright and restaurants and pubs are within walking distance, which of an evening is a bonus. There are plenty of shops close by including three bakers and a local butcher that I can recommend the steak pie without reservation. Being so close to a working harbour is also nice. Iain also provided a recommendation for New Years Eve which included live music and a piper at midnight, thank you for that. We really enjoyed our stay and have recommended the flat to friends already!

    Kevan2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely great self contained little apartment at very reasonable price. Would definitely use again.

    Nigel2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • One of the loveliest places I’ve ever stayed in. So cosy and beautifully decorated and looks even nicer than the photos! Bed also one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept in. Bring warm clothes though as the flat can get very very cold!

    Poppy2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in a very comfortable flat. It was right in the middle of a busy main street so all amenities were close at hand. Iain was a great host and responded to all emails very promptly and his advice on the best bars and restaurants was spot on. Would stay there again if ever in this neck of the woods

We believe we have the perfect base to tour round the beauty of Dumfries and Galloway. Thee is so much to see and do
  • Heron view is a lovely getaway. Close enough to the town for anything you might need but further out enough to enjoy silent nights and starry skies. We enjoyed some beautiful weather during our stay which meant we could enjoy long walks with the dog. Firing up the log burner and jumping in the hot tub was a nice extra touch at the end of the day. Would definitely recommend! Only one thing, a thicker/fluffier duvet would make the stay even more special but that is just one minor remark :)

    Fiona2019-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place in a beautiful location, Short walk down into the town of Kircudbright. The hot tub was a brilliant addition that we really enjoyed sitting out with the lovely views. The place was really nice and tidy, with all the necessities. Check in was easy and straightforward and there was a brilliant local info booklet that was a great help to us. The shower was amazing! Brilliant power shower! Would definitely recommend and stay again.

    James2019-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay! The place was beautiful, we loved the hot tub, and it was absolutely spotless. The whole apartment was very warm. Donald was prompt and courteous to respond. We hadn't realized that this apartment is one part of an L-shaped farmhouse, which means that there were other guests in the other part of the building -- which means it didn't feel quite as private as we had thought, but we still thoroughly enjoyed it! Beautiful walks in the area, too. (Hint: bring dressing gowns and flip flops for the hot tub!).

    Megan2019-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Donald’s house was beautiful and peaceful. Cold nights in a hot tub looking at the stars - we couldn’t ask for more!

  • Wow this house is so amazing. It has a loveey homely feel and Doreen makes sure everything is perfect with some lovely personal touches. Making sure the heating was on when we arrived and fresh flowers, fruit and milk. We have stayed in many bnb's and this is one of the best. Looking out the kitchen window at a lovely little bridge and waterways with boats moored and friendly town people walking their dogs. Such a beautiful lovely town. Doreen was kind enough to do our washing. We were really grateful as we are travelling all around the UK. Thankyou Doreen and Alec. If we are back your way we will not hesitate to stay again.

  • Doreen's place is the perfect location for all amenities in Kirkcudbright. Everything is on your doorstep. On arrival, we were greeted by Doreen and her husband. They showed us round and made sure we were settled and confident with using appliances, heating etc. The house itself is lovely and immaculately presented. It's bright and really spacious and offers two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The kitchen is spacious and has ample pots, pans, crockery etc, if you decide to make a meal. There's also a dining room and also a table and chairs in the kitchen too. Also lovely fresh flowers on display and fresh fruit, tea, coffee milk and sugar were provided, just what was needed after a long drive. I highly recommend Doreen's place for short or long stays, it has everything and more for a comfortable holiday. Thanks Doreen, you are a wonderful host.

  • Had a lovely stay at Steph's place. A lovely little cottage in a great location. If we are ever in the area we will come and stay again.

    Nicholas2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Steph's cottage in Kirkcudbright is a wee gem. Great for two and I imagine 4 would be as comfy. The rooms are cosy, and we had a lovely time playing board games in the wee sitting room area. The bed was comfy and the shower powerful, what more do you need?? The kitchen had everything we were looking for too. It's handily located in the town for access to the Tesco metro and takeaway restaurants (we recommend Chen's kitchen!). Kirkcudbright itself is a short drive from Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie, with plenty of walks and wildlife reserves nearby. We'd happily return to stay again in the future!

  • A great place to stay right in the centre of the village. A superb village which I have visited many times but never stayed there until now. I'd recommend Steph place, cozy, with just about everything that you need and a great base.

    Chris2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Steph’s Airbnb. Our kids (11 & 14) loved the attic space and climbing the ladder to get there! It’s within a very short walk to most of the restaurants, bars and attractions of Kirkcudbright. We did bring towels but there was soap and shower gel and the house was cosy. Parking was no problem just round the corner.

    Ali & Al2019-10-20T00:00:00Z

Middle cottage is a modern wing of our 19th century house, nestled within farmland in a secluded and rural location, with distant views of the Cumbrian fells and the Isle of Man. We think our location is very special. Our cottage is comfortable, spacious and well equipped, with attention to detail to ensure our guests have a truly memorable stay.
We have sociable, open plan living, eating and dining accommodation which links to the landscape through ceiling to floor windows. There is an abundance of wildlife to be viewed from your armchair. The bright shower room has a power shower and the bedroom has a comfy, super king bed; this can be split into 2 single beds if required. There is ample room for a toddler bed or cot. We want you to be able to appreciate our location as much as we do, so encourage you to spend time in and exploring our garden with lawns, wildlife area, burns and animals. But if you want to just sit back and enjoy the view then there is a patio accessed from the living space.
The local area has a lot to offer; there are outside activities, history and art and many festivities on going across the year. There are many interesting, independent businesses for shopping and food and drink. We are happy to help you plan your stay, sharing local knowledge on the best places to visit.

All the finishing touches are of high quality and it makes the very spacious cottage feel very luxurious. The eggs, milk, coffee ,cake ,muesli etc were much appreciated. The views from the windows are lovely and the location perfect. There's lots to see and do close by. Suzanne and Mike are lovely people and very welcoming. We were lucky to have a clear night sky and it was awesome. Go to lovely Dumfries and Galloway and relax !

    Jan2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location tucked away amongst the fields with views across green grass, sheep and cows. Very spacious open plan living area with direct access to the garden. Suzanne and Mike gave a tremendously warm welcome, introducing our daughter to the goats, dog, ducks and chickens. Thoughtful touches: books and toys and toy house for our daughter to enjoy and home baked scones waiting for us to enjoy. We would definitely recommend to couples, singles and small families. They also have a larger property which we had a sneak peak at which would suit a family of four, FYI! Happy memories made here, thank you.

    Rhiana2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • All the other reviews say it all really and they are so accurate! We had an absolutely super three nights thanks to Suzanne and Mike. • Cassie and Tristam and their family were great hosts; they warmed up the room and put on hot water for tea when we arrived late and tired from the ferry port. The room was charming and clean and conveniently arranged; the lovely little town of Garlieston was fun to walk around in, quiet, and un-crowded in March. We loved the view as well. This place was truly worth the drive down narrow roads to get there!

    Marianne2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cassie's AirBnB is totally charming. It's a little sea-blue room with en suite, fitted out perfectly for a single person or couple to have their tea while looking out at a beautiful bay view. The little town situated on Garlieston Bay is lovely to walk in, rain or shine. The posted history and pictures near the city hall, the historical little park with the giant steel mill wheel and its history, situated on the roaring mill stream, and the sea wall with access to the bay during low tide are all within a short, easy walk of the Cassie's house. The next larger town, Whigtown, is full of interesting book shops! Cassie herself showed us great hospitality; when she found that we had driven through the night to get there and were parked out front in our camper van, waiting for the afternoon to check in, she was afraid we were cold (it was mid-March) and she put the extra heater and the kettle for tea on, and at the first sign that we were awake she told us to come and check in early and get warm! Access to our room was through her front door, in her family home; Cassie made us feel as if we were not just some American tourist strangers, but her long-lost family come for a welcome visit.

  • This is a great room, all you need for a short stay. A lovely welcoming family. A great little village with an interesting WWII history, and a great pub!

    Justin2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We have been here for three nights and felt very welcomed. At the end of the street is the Harbour Inn. We went there for drinks and dinner. The area is really beautiful and the room and bathroom are spacious. A really nice touch was the breakfast we were provided with. There was a loaf of bread, loads of tea, coffee and other hot drinks. Would recommend this place!

  • This cute little place is right at the shore line of the little village of Garlieston. The village is quite pretty and definitely worth a walk around :) Plus the room had everything you could need. A really good private bathroom and stocked-up basic amenities like cereal, bread, butter and milk :) 10/10

  • Our trip to Cassie's place didn't go as planned (we had a breakdown), but she was so incredibly helpful and understanding of the situation. She was 10/10 for communication and support!

Kirkland Mill is a lovingly renovated 3 bedroom property. Set in 3 acres of exquisite countryside complete with a private pond, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Kirkcudbright has numerous art galleries, a museum, golf courses, tennis and squash courts, swimming pool, gym and craft shops. There are many shores and country walks to explore within a 10 mile radius. There are two supermarkets in Kirkcudbright.
  • We stayed for three nights here and we really enjoyed it; it is a well presented and equipped house with three bedrooms (one double room and two with twin beds). Liam is a great host and was really easy to get in touch with before, during and after our stay. Would recommend!

    Christopher2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Liam was perhaps one of the best hosts we have had through Air B&B, great communication and he made sure our stay was as pleasant as it could be. The house is immaculate and has everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is very well equipped and there was nothing that we could suggest to include, everything was there that we needed. The google devices around the house were fantastic and we all took turns with our cheesy music selection. This was a family holiday and we had our one year old son with us. Liam has went above and beyond to make sure the home was safe for our wee one . He really had the time of his life, exploring and watching the wildlife from the window. I must say the view from the living room is just spectacular, you don’t really need to watch the tv when you have a whole selection of wildlife there right in front of you. We also enjoyed the bbq even though it was Dec. We are hoping to stay here again as he we truly had a memorable time. Thanks Liam :)

  • We have just came back from a week at Kirkland Mill and we had an amazing time. Kirkland mill is a beautiful place, modern, very well equipped and the host checked all was ok during our stay. Kirkland Mill’s garden was amazing and has a large pond we all including our 3 year old son loved spotting the different wildlife there every day including a Heron and two otters. Lovely relaxing place but also near Kirkcudbright, where there seems to always be something going on. We got to visit a food market and see the halloween events. Polarbites do lovely fish and chips! Highly recommend. Hope to visit Kirkland Mill again soon. Amanda

    Amanda2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Liam's home as a family group, 4 adults and two children. The property is a great size, beautifully kept and had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped as was the rest of the house, plenty of towels and bedding, fantastic view out onto the lake from the living room. It like a huge wildlife TV we're we saw pheasants, robins, red kites and woodpeckers. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Liam's house for a relaxing break. There's also plenty to do in the local area. From the property you can walk up through the fields and woods to a red squirrel hide.....we did see a red squirrel which was a treat, so treat yourself, you won't be disappointed.

    Ralph2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • The property is set within beautiful grounds and we enjoyed exploring the local woodland area. The nearby town is within easy reach by foot or car. Kirkland Mill offers a beautiful and relaxing space. The property is very spacious and well equipped in terms of amenities and technology. The location is a great space for exploring the extended area of Dumfries and Galloway. We hope to return in the future!

  • Beautiful house set in lovely countryside with gorgeous cows for neighbours. We had such a warm welcome and we wanted for nothing. The rooms are clean with extremely comfy beds. We really liked the tablet for Spotify with speakers in every room! Liams have us lots of local restaurants recommendations of which we tried two and they were both great. Thank you so much for creating this beautiful home from home and we will be back!

    Katharine2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Kirkland Mill is a lovely property in a stunning location with great views, perfect for relaxing in! Google devices everywhere allows you to play music in any room you are. Amazon prime & Netflix on the TV. Liam was a great host, he let us get settled and then returned to show us around the property. We had a great few days!

    Ashley2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Kirkland Mill is absolutely stunning. The accommodation is first class and equipped to a very high standard. I can honestly say it is the best place we have stayed in terms of location and facilities. Liam is a superb host, we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Very quiet and peaceful location makes staying in this house a joy for those wishing to visit beautiful Dumfries and Galloway and specifically Wigtown, Scotland's book town. Nice clean double room with lovely views and superb kitchen on offer
My home is in a very quiet and lovely location, a mile outside Wigtown, Scotland's book town. The house itself has an excellent kitchen and the room is spacious. The owner is easy going and willing to help wherever he can (That's me, I am describing!)
Very friendly local folks - I am originally from the West Midlands in England so I think I can comment!
  • The house is great, the bed is equipped with a heating blanket, which is great for a stay in January, Joe is very nice and his dog adorable, and the region is splendid. In great stay!

    Julie2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed a night at Joe's place whilst on a cycling tour of Dumfries and Galloway. It was perfect for the purpose and Joe made the process of finding the house, checking in etc. very easy. The room was very clean and comfortable. Joe gave me a good recommendation for a local place to get an evening meal (The Bladnoch Inn). I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

    Simon2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Joe is a very relaxed, welcoming and trusting host. We had a very pleasant stay in his home in a great location in the Machars. The double bed is comfortable, the shower, which is in the bath, has amazingly good water pressure and plenty of hot water so no trouble rinsing out the shampoo! The kitchen is clean and seems well equipped, although we didn't cook during our stay.

    Iona2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy home! Lovely views, and it’s close to Wigtown, so it made an easy trip. Great host, too!

    Pmbeck20032019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Clean and really affordable! Lovely views of the Galloway Hills! If using public transport, you can 'hail and ride' in the area, so the bus stops right at the end of the road. (Tip - if you walk to the right at the end of the road to the interchange, you can catch additional buses that skip Wigtown!)

    Pov2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • My stay in Wigtown at Joe’s space was wonderful. Joe was consistently a kind, warm, thoughtful host. He even made sure I was able to get to and from the train and Wigtown- which much to my surprise wasn’t as close as I thought, but I was so grateful for the help there- it felt like he went above and beyond in that. The space was clean and welcoming and warm. There was everything I needed provided and a grocery store not too far away. The location was perfect for me, I didn’t have a car but I found I loved the walk to town and in nature. And for my respite trip it was all perfect. The area is gorgeous, gentle but rich. I would definitely recommend a stay in Wigtown with Joe and would most definitely look to staying there again on my next journey to Scotland. Thank you again, Joe!

  • It's a lovely little studio, great for one or a couple. It's easy to park and easy to find the studio, and the self check in was very simple and convenient. The studio is really comfortable, clean and pretty, and the conservatory is such a bonus! It's lovely to relax in there and look out into the little private garden. It's so quiet you would never know you're right in the centre of town! I would certainly stay there again.

  • Great location, lot of thought and preparation by Geraldine to make our stay so lovely.

  • Compact but cosy studio apartment that was perfect for our long weekend with early starts. Loved the convenience of the lockbox for arrival and it the heating kept it warm even in miserable weather. Just be aware there isn't a lot of space when you don't want to use the conservatory and the kitchen is great for breakfast and preparing lunch but I wouldn't want to try cooking properly.

    Claire2018-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • This studio apartment was ideal for a single person or a couple. I found it to be very well laid-out and equipped. The conservatory, set in a private little garden full of songbirds, was a real bonus. The perfect base to explore Kirkcudbright and area.

The Dumfries and Galloway region ... Dumfries and Galloway is like a miniature version of Scotland, condensed down into one region. Not just a great range of activities (should you wish to be active) but lots of Scotland's best features in one place. A place where naturally beautiful countryside meets the sea, with truly scrumptious locally produced food and drink too. Dumfries and Galloway is home to a stunning 200-miles stretch of coastline, representing the seaside in all its forms; with endless sandy beaches at Port Logan and Sandyhills, leisure-craft on the 'Solway Riviera' at Kippford and fishing boats unloading their catch of scallops in the busy harbour of Kirkcudbright. It's beautiful too – the breath-taking sunset over the Irish Sea seen from the safe haven of Kirkcudbright harbour epitomises the special atmosphere where this region touches the sea. It's a common misconception that you have to head for the Highlands to find great Scottish hills, but here you won't be disappointed. Dumfries and Galloway hosts some of the country's very best for walkers of all abilities; from tackling the 212-mile Southern Upland Way or challenging ranges like the 'Awful Hand' to following in the footsteps of ancient cattle rustlers in the Devil's Beef Tub there's plenty to savour. With the birthplace of Christianity, ancient buildings like Caerlaverock Castle and the first home of the Scotsman who founded the American Navy, the south-west is also steeped in history. Dumfries is the heart of Robert Burns' country and Scotland's National Museum of Costume is housed in Shambellie House at nearby New Abbey. The village is also where Sweetheart Abbey stands – home to one of the most romantic stories of them all. The region also hosts five of the 7Stanes mountain bike trails and 30 golf courses, both links and inland. Dumfries and Galloway is also becoming very popular for foodies –with Savour the Flavours running two very successful food festivals at either end of the summer season in May and September. You can explore the local countryside, meet local artisan producers of all types of food and drinks and even learn to forage. That countryside is also home to fantastic wildlife – including the Galloway Wild Goat Park, RSPB reserves at Mersehead and Mull of Galloway and a chance to see Red Kites in the wild. Kirkcudbright, 9 miles from Orroland The nearest town to Orroland Lodge is Kirkcudbright – the Royal Burgh is Scotland's Artists' Town and comes alive in the summer with a tremendous programme of entertainment including a Jazz Festival, open-air Scottish Nights and a floodlit Tattoo (complete with massed pipe bands) in front of MacLellan's Castle. As well as a haven for art and craft lovers, Kirkcudbright is also a place for family fun, with an indoor swimming pool run brilliantly by volunteers from the local community. At the Cocoa Bean chocolate factory kids can make chocolate creations in an interactive workshop and explore indoor and outdoor play areas.

  • This cottage is spacious clean and well equipped. The grounds are lovely and the walk down to the rocky shore is great. A home baked lemon cake was awaiting our arrival and we felt well catered for at all times. The only thing I would note is to check ahead about pheasant shoots on site - there was one on the morning that we left. We were told it would start at 10am but shooting bangs started half an hour earlier and this terrified our dog.

There is plenty to do in and around this location at all times of the year. Kirkcudbright itself is only five mins away as is the Cocoa bean and the cream of galloway.
  • An incredible spacious cabin with excellent facilities including the wonderful hot tub! Great wee sub trap. Excellent for a few quiet days of relaxation and will definitely be back. Thank you!

  • Gorgeous cosy stay at this beautiful home - really comfortable and had everything we needed for a lovely weekend away. Gorgeous beaches around for walks, but so peaceful and quiet at the house you needn’t go anywhere to relax! Kitchen was well equipped if you wanted to cook, and loads of DVDs and games available to use . A great getaway!

  • Small touches make a big difference. A small nice touch can make a stay this accommodation offers bundles of them, from the hottub with bathrobes, decking, blankets, decor and furnishings. Bird feeders, big outside area, BBQ, picnic bench and trampoline. Things like Netflix, dvds, extra heaters were welcome additions. Weather was atrocious but the hottub was a brilliant escape. Thanks very much from happy visitors.

    Ian2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was excellent! Having the hot tub was amazing! Would recommend to anyone.

    Daniel2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for three nights and absolutely loved it! The place has been really nicely renovated and has an incredibly chilled feel to it. It’s so private and quiet. We had everything we needed in the cabin. Our three-year old, Luca loved the game selection too! Ut. It’s is the outdoor elements that make this place amazing.... the trampoline sunk into the lawn is genius - so safe for Luca to just run on to and jump away! The hot tub is brilliant - secluded and surrounded by beautiful countryside - but it’s an night that it is the best.... the clear skies and thousands of stars were breath-taking. We stayed during Storm Dennis so didn’t get out and about as much as we might have done. We managed the short trip to the coast though - absolutely stunning and deserted - perfect! Rory & Layna were super responsive. This really is a great place to stay for a complete chill out and is fantastic value. Love love loved it!

    Anita2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A fab location and a great place to stay. The place has lots of lovely touches and the fresh (still warm) bread was a wonderful surprise. Would love to go back!

    Jen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cabin near the town of Kirkcudbright. Quiet and relaxing; helped especially with the addition of the hot tub. Small touches such as the bread and flowers were appreciated also, especially because bread is the one thing we forgot on our way down for our scrambled eggs! ☺️ Thanks again, we will recommend to friends.

  • What a beautiful area of the world! Stockmans cottage is full of character and provides lovely views over the countryside. It is so peaceful there yet it is just a 15 minute walk into town. We loved watching the farmer working his dogs and tending to his sheep. The cottage itself is spotlessly clean and has all the facilities one needs. Anne provided extra little touches like fresh flowers, cookies etc. I highly recommend Anne's place.

  • This is a fantastic cottage. Plenty of space. The kitchen has everything. There was milk in the fridge when we arrived and delicious sultana cookies too. Just outside Kirkcudbright it takes no time at all to get to anywhere along the coast or inland into the Galloway Forest. The broadband is fast and already connected to the smart TV - 30 seconds to sign in and we were streaming our favourites. A great place in a great location.

Alma is a traditional Galloway “road mans” cottage built around 1870 which has been in our possession twice having been our first house purchase,. The opportunity to repurchase 3 years ago required no hesitation & it will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
Martin & Michelle are your hosts at the Borgue Hotel which is 2 minutes walk. A friendly village pub with a great selection of drink & delicious home cooked meals.
  • The cottage is beautiful, amazing, quiet and cosy. Bruce is a great host. Not sure what else is there to say. We’ve utterly enjoyed our stay and I don’t think it was the last time. Such a great experience! :)

    Wojtek2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really nice, perfectly location for exploring the lovely south Kirkcudbright coastline, lochs and Galloway forests. It’s very well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, we stayed in November when the weather was quite cold and wet but the cottage was cosy and warm all the time. A really enjoyable few days, everything was just right. We’ll be back again for sure.

    Andy2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, well appointed, cosy cottage. The weather wasn’t great when we were in the area but it was good to come back to this cosy little place. It has all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay and there are plenty walks and coffee shops in the larger area around Borgue. Kircudbright is worth a visit, there appears to be events in this town on a regular basis. Great pub just a few metres down the road from the cottage.

  • Possibly the best airbnb that I have stayed in! The place itself is decorated so beautifully and with stunning detail. Great amenities, little surprises and such comfortable beds. Our host Lorraine was in contact when we needed and so very helpful. We were in the area for a wedding so didn't explore more than the town of Kirkcudbright itself but it was very lovely and I would highly recommend a stay.

  • We’ve been renting holiday homes in Scotland for 20 years, and this is the best one we’ve ever stayed in. Everything about the place was perfect—from the stylish, eclectic decor, to the quality furnishings, top-notch kitchenware, great beds, lovely view and terrific location. Lorraine was an excellent communicator, providing valuable restaurant tips. The welcome libations and treats were an unexpected bonus. We could live here!

  • What a beautiful apartment in an excellent location. Beautifully decorated, high quality furniture and utensils and everything you need to start enjoying your holiday as soon as you walk through the door. Spotlessly clean and excellent hosts who communicate well and are always available. As a couple, we stayed for 9 days with a couple of days in the middle joined by 2 other adults and a 3 month old baby - and we enjoyed every minute. If you haven’t been to Kirkudbright then you’re missing out - the people are lovely and the town is very relaxing and ideally situated for hills and coast alike.

  • A beautiful cottage not far from Kirkcudbright. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend Jane’s place.

    Sarah2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Clachan Cottage is one of the most beautiful peaceful havens we have ever stayed in. It is beautifully decorated, and Jane has literally thought of everything, from being able to make and do everything in the kitchen that you would want to do, (as if you were at home), to very thoughtful touches around the cottage, from very lovely snuggly rugs in the lounge with all sort of lighting options, to little touches in the bathrooms, to every kind of outdoor eating you could possibly entertain. Great location being within great distances to the local villages/towns, to the Lochs and countryside, & to the sea. There is space for all your outdoor gear and clothing too, and ample parking. It really does feel like home from home. Many many thanks Jane :)

    Gilly2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Clachan cottage was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated with every amenity you could wish for on a self catering holiday. The setting was idyllic and the gorgeous garden beautiful when the sun occasionally decided to shine! Jane was a great host. She gave really clear arrival instructions and was quick to answer any queries. On arrival we were greeted with a bottle of wine and fresh milk, bread and butter. Other touches such as fleecy blankets to keep cosy in the evenings, local guide books, toy box and a well stocked DVD library added to the home from home ambience of our stay. Although we stayed in August I can imagine how cosy it would be with the log burner in the winter! Kirkcudbright itself is a lovely town with a great deli, bakeries (macaroni cheese pies are a revelation!) and places to eat and drink. We also really enjoyed a visit to Dhoon beach and the walk between Rockcliffe beach and Kippford beautiful. If you have children then please take them to Moat Brae in Dumfries... the inspiration for Peter Pan.... possibly the best children's museum we have been to in ages! Our 4 year olds and 2 year old loved it. Overall a fantastic holiday which could have only been improved by a bit more Scottish sunshine! ☀️

Highly recommended.

  • Excellent location very tranquil and close to some stunning spots. We loved the layout and the beds were super comfy. We didn't miss having WiFi and spent our time walking, cooking and eating. One thing to note as a tall chap (6'4) the ceiling is quite low in the living room. Just to be aware but it's more than worth it to enjoy the stunning view form the window.

  • Such a lovely place. Fantastic location and little quirky aspects make this cottage one to remember for all the right reasons. There is everything you need there and it is so cosy. We loved reading and watching the weather rolling in across the hills. Great walks all around so great for dogs too! We loved our stay and would love to return.

  • Such a lovely little cosy getaway. Perfect for a family with young children or romantic retreat. The views from the living room were incredible. The hamper bundle was a lovely extra touch. Would definitely look to book again in the future if I'm the area!

  • Nice cottage, well equipped with the nice touch of a hospitality tray. Perfect for our two night stay for an unexpected visit to the area on personal business.

  • We arrived in the dark and found the heating, lights and Christmas tree lights all on giving a very cosy welcome. The cottage was clean, comfy beds and perfect for our weekend away. Lovely view from the lounge windows over the fields.

  • Super clean cottage with a good shower to boot. Lots of space inside and outside. Steve is sorting out wi-fi which will make this cottage a 10/10 property
