Love love love!! A place you could truly call your home away from home!

The first time I experienced Kyoto's homestay, I was attracted by the good reviews, and I was even more convinced after the actual stay. This is a great choice. The hosts were very enthusiastic, and there was no problem in communicating in English. They also warmly prepared gifts for us. Thank you very much! The location of the house is very convenient. It is close to the subway station and there are many supermarkets. If you want to play Kyoto Kiyomizu Temple and Inari Taisha, it is not far. I like the layout of the house, and the quilt and ns win my heart. Next time I come to Kyoto, I will still choose this one!

Traditional Japanese-style homestay is a perfect experience. Room: Very clean and spacious, the surroundings are very quiet. Traditional Japanese tatami, partitions and furniture. The host also provided Japanese-style pajamas. We took many photos with our own kimono. Very nice interior. The kitchen and bathroom appliances are very complete, as well as a full cup of various tableware and tea sets. There are toys and game consoles. Transportation: There are bus stations, subway stations, convenience stores, and living supermarkets within 10 minutes. I walked out of Kyoto Station and walked here for 30 minutes. Surroundings: Matsuya set meals, a fast-food restaurant, cheap. There is a supermarket in the intersection. The meat, vegetables and Japanese soup base we bought here, the hotpot we eat, and the hotpot in the bed and breakfast is shabu-shabu. Others: Children are charged separately, which is about 2500 yen per day. The introduction is written in Japanese. We went at the end of January and it was quite warm after turning on the air conditioner in the room.

The whole house has convenient transportation, and it takes five minutes to walk after getting off the subway. There are supermarkets, convenience stores, and izakayas at the door. The whole house has Japanese-style features, and the host is hospitable! Bring a 2-year-old child and a lot of toys. Overall great!

Can experience the accommodation environment of locals in Kyoto very well. And very clean. Still good value for money. The host also prepared toys and sweets for the children. Personally I think the traffic is quite convenient.

We have just had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful, traditional Japanese house. From the moment we were greeted by Yukie at the train station to the moment we left (having shared a beautiful meal with the owners of the guest house the previous night) we were made to feel so very welcome and special. The house is spotlessly clean with fantastic amenities (including a very useful clothes dryer in winter!) and the most comfortable futons and beautiful warm quilts. It just felt like home (with the added bonus of a Super Nintendo!) and our children often asked for a “home day” despite the abundant activities and beautiful sights to be seen around Kyoto (many within walking distance from the guesthouse). The location is incredibly quiet and we felt safe at all times. Thank you to Yukie, Daisuke and his lovely mother for making us feel so welcome in what was my first time visiting Japan. We truly feel so lucky to have had the experience of staying in their beautiful home and city.

I would like to say the room is good located near the train station. Very Japanese home style, clean, warm and harmonious. Our kid like it, also our parents. Good choice for family trip and Yukie is very warm welcome to the guest and easy to communicate. Highly recommended

This place is very special and very big. Best part is everyone is amazing and there is a cafe and bar downstairs where everyone is so kind. A very special unique stay. And there is a tuned piano for the musicians.

We spent a delightful 2 days in Kyoto at Seanacy and Kojiro's wonderful ryokan. They were great hosts and super accommodating. I love staying in places that have a rich history and this exceeded my expectations. The sleeping rooms and updated 100 year old lounge space were so cool and provided the perfect backdrop to our visit to Kyoto. I especially enjoyed sipping on a nice Nikka whiskey downstairs at the whiskey bar/cafe. Such a chill, awesome place. I'd love to return the next opportunity I get.

One of the most beautiful and charming Airbnb’s i have stayed in. The hosts were friendly and provided great suggestions for local food and sightseeing. Very spacious and stylish space. The downstairs common is trendy and popular amongst locals and tourists. Would definitely stay here again.

Wow! This place is 💯👌. If you find this place with availability, book it. I got to interact with one of the hosts, Hiroki throughout my stay. He is beyond helpful and an awesome guy. There is a bar/cafe downstairs with great drinks. Please check it out every night that you are there. Makes for great conversations and a good transition before bed. Hiroki provided many great tips and I had the best food at his suggestion. The place is super cozy and plenty of space for 6 people! Tambaguchi station is a 10 minute walk from the ryokan. Taxi is also available if you prefer not to walk, but I recommend you walk as much as you can in Kyoto. If I return to Kyoto, I will definitely stay here again. 💯

Amazing stay: Hospitality was particularly outstanding. The host (Andrea) was very helpful in the check in and gave us tips and recommandations for visiting the city and even side trips, he was very knowledgeable about everything. He also showed us around and explained all the appliances (which can be a life saver if you’re not used to Japanese appliances). The appartement in itself looks even better than in the photos on airbnb, and is spotless. All necessary bathroom amenities and snacks / food seasoning are available, as well as tea, coffee etc. Location is very practical, especially when combined with the recommended restaurants / bars that Andrea will tell you about. (Tried the gyoza place and the Escamoteur bar, both great)

The location of the house is great and you can walk both to nearby attractions and to shopping. Clean and tidy, complete facilities, the host carefully explained the surroundings for us, very considerate. Recommend to other friends visiting Kyoto

This is a really cute traditional apartment and with a bit of organisation was perfect for us four - 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Andrea meeting us at the start set us off really well, and it was kind of them to allow a late checkout- have us time for a lovely tea ceremony 😊

Love it here, the scenery outside is beautiful, and I am really happy to go in and out here every day. Shopping and eating are very convenient. The host was very enthusiastic, fluent in English, and helped us plan the trip. This trip is very happy, if you will stay here next time, if the cherry blossoms on the balcony is better.

Andrea and Mayumi’s place was absolutely perfect, minutes from the historic section of Kyoto and from an endless amount of delicious food. Andrea spent 15min sitting with us and giving us the layout of the city, recommending sites to see and how to best see them. As first time travelers to Japan, he took all of the stress out of our trip and made it a much more enjoyable experience.

It's a very nice house, with a very nice view and at a very nice location. The owner is really nice! They gave us a lot of information around the house and about Kyoto, and prepared some drinks and foods for us in the fridge. I will definitely book their house again when I visit Kyoto next time.

Excellent cosy house on a great location and neighbourhood. Very functional and with good futons. Seiko is a wonderful host. Sent us directions in Japanese for the taxi, and gave us tips for placing to dine and shop. Would definitely recommend Seiko’s place.

This is a great hotel. The nearby Shirakawa is very beautiful. The rooms are quiet, refined, period and fully equipped. The location is not far from Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple. The host is very friendly and will be waiting for you in the room. Anyway recommended.

Niho was very helpful and was a wonderful host! Especially with Our trip occurring during Covid-19 concerns, Niho assured us on the disinfection methods and assurance + prompt updates on the situation at Japan prior to our arrival. Niho's place is in an easy location to get to from Shin-Osaka station. The place is very clean, comfortable and traditionally Japanese which really made the stay more enjoyable! I highly recommend staying here!!

Beautiful little studio apartment.

My family and I loved our stay at Niho’s. It is strategically located to the shin-osaka station, only 5mins walk with convenience store and restaurant which open 24 hour. Super convenient!!! As advice by Niho, it would be too packed for a family of four which is true but we loved how cozy it was. It wasn’t too packed to move around though. Everything is perfect at Niho’s place. Would definitely be back if I ever visit Osaka again :)

Our stay at Minas apartment was just perfect for the amount of time we had in Kyoto. It had everything you need when visiting a new city, very close to public transport which was most important for us as we used Kyoto for a main base while also exploring other cities near by by rail. I would definitely recommend this place if you are after a clean, stress free stay in Kyoto. Thank you again!

At first, the room for this Chinese character was very special. The room was near Kyoto Station, which was very convenient. There is a supermarket not far downstairs that only accepts cash. It should be a place for locals to buy vegetables. The price is cheaper than Osaka, not 24 hours. There are many izakayas around, and the TV tower is also nearby, which is particularly good. The host is also very nice, and can respond to questions in a timely manner. Super great!

We really enjoyed our time spent in Kyoto, much in part to being able to stay at Mina’s place. It is very close to Kyoto station and has all the amenities we needed. The heated bathroom and goodies provided were especially nice after a long day out. We recommend Mina’s place to everyone and hope to come back again!

A nice place located at a very convenient four-minute walk from Kyoto station as well as the Kyoto Tower that’s also accompanied by multiple convenience stores within walking distance. Check-in process was nice and easy and the room was very clean and cosy! Would recommend to anyone that’s thinking of booking :)

Very good location, within 5 minutes walk to everything - Kyoto Train Station, Bus Station, Kyoto Tower, Isetan and a lot more. There is an elevator in the building so life is easier. The room is a little bit small but comfortable enough for us to stay for one week. There is a small kitchen utility but who will use it while there are plenty of good restaurants and food stalls around.

This apartment was quite spacious. It has amazing amenities such as the shower and cute little table and chairs. The bed was also super comfortable. It also has a balcony which is great for hanging clothes to dry. The apartment was also extremely close to Kyoto station which made everything really easily accessible. The hosts also responded very promptly to questions and requests.

Nice place! Not too far away from station. The best things is the place is quiet at night! The staircase to go upstairs is a bit high and slope. But overall is nice! Host can speak in chinese and he is very nice and fast respond!

Very good space for medium groups, I stayed here as a couple and there was plenty of space, the washing machine and kitchen help a lot to reduce the expenses of a traveler in Kyoto, apart from that you have a super market nearby so you can buy all your ingredients very easily. As for the nearby points of interest you can walk to Fushimi Inari (20 minutes) so I recommend going at midnight or in the first ray of the sun, for the rest of Kyoto you can take the metro that is 5 minutes walk and Reach any destined.

The house is larger than I had imagined. We had a bit of trouble trying to find it, but we just asked a man on the street and somehow he was able to walk us there no problem. Everything is super clean in the house. It is great place to stay if you want to get an early start to the shrines the next morning.

You can experience Kyoto accommodation well, not far from the subway and private iron. There are large shopping malls, McDonald's, etc. nearby.

I want to live here next time in Kyoto. There is a clothes rack in the laundry room on the first floor, and the washing machine has a drying function. You can change the laundry and clothing support to avoid heavy luggage.

It was a good old feeling from the inn's appearance to the interior. There was no complaint in the room, as well as the shower and washbasin. Even though we arrived early, we were able to check in. The staff were also very good people. I want to use it again.

This traditional-style Japanese apartment is a great way to experience Kyoto! We really enjoyed our stay. Andrea met us at the apartment for checkin and gave us the most comprehensive set of local recommendations that I have ever had from an Airbnb host. The apartment has so many thoughtful amenities and is in a nice part of town where you can walk to lots of restaurants and easily bus or walk to tourist attractions. We ended up wanting to extend our stay while we were in town which the hosts took care of changing with quick response and no issues. Highly recommend a stay here if you are in Kyoto!

Andrea and Mayumi went out of their way to accommodate us. They helped to make reservations at a local fu restaurant and were invaluable in helping us navigate around Kyoto. The condo is in a great location with walking proximity to restaurants, the Gion district, train and city buses.

This place is much better than what we expected. The location is great, near Gion and Higashiyama, accessible by bus! The place was amazingly cozy. Andrea is such an amazing host, he welcomed us and spared some of his time for a mini tour around the house and explained about the attractions around the apartment. He also helped us getting our luggages from the nearest Yamato delivery service. He responds quickly to our questions, amazing!

Great place to stay in Kyoto. Centrally located to Gion district along with the Kyoto palace and other shrines. You can hire bikes too and take a great ride along a lake that runs through the city

It is a collection of apartments near the Kyoto jr station. For me it was a walkable distance. To get from there to the scenic temples can all be done by bus. The apartment was clean and had everything you would need.

Mr. Yamamoto's homestay is very close to Kyoto Station, about 7 minutes walk, convenient transportation nearby, shopping malls are close, and there are many restaurants to eat. The host speaks Chinese, and the communication is very pleasant. The room is clean and tidy and well-equipped, which is very suitable for many days. Whether it is a person or a family, the price is very high! I want to stay next time I come to Kyoto! !!

Property was clean and a great value for the money. It's a simple place, shared kitchen area and shared bathrooms, but a very nice room with classic Japanese bedding. Roughly a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station and the owner was very friendly, spoke English and gave great tips on the local area. I would be happy to stay here again if I was needing a place in Kyoto and I wanted to get value for the money.

This was a lovely room with very straightforward instructions written out for every aspect of them home. The room and facilities were all very clean and two of us stayed very comfortably there. Wonderful location as well. I would definitely stay there again.

very good! I booked a room with a courtyard on the first floor. There are two toilets and bathrooms on the first floor. They are shared, but it seems that the set of toilets and bathrooms that are close to the room was only used by us. The room is well heated and sleeps very warm. There is a large supermarket ten minutes away nearby. It takes about seven or eight minutes to walk to the station, and you can walk to the main gate of Nijo Castle.

Great location. Quiet & clean. Gorgeous garden space. Perfect for 2-3 people. You will get the feel of being in a traditional Japanese home but with modern touches. The host were very kind & accommodating. Quick to answer any questions plus they have a giant guide too! Very great place, will be coming back again!

We had a very special stay in this machiya. It’s a lovely and authentically Japanese space with everything you need - bath, stocked kitchen, garden with nice deck to sit on. We really enjoyed being in a quiet, low-key district and exploring the local neighbourhood. This place is a bit far from the centre of town (25 mins or so combining walking and train travel) but I’m glad we were there to explore an area that we wouldn’t have gone to otherwise. We really enjoyed the local sake museum and had a great time at a sake bar that the hosts recommended. Thanks to yoshi and ariya for a special time in Kyoto.

Clean, convenient place where you can really get in touch with the traditional Japanese lifestyle! Nearby are convenience stores, but also local bakeries and wonderful Japanese restaurants, as well as access to famous spots near Kyoto! The house is spacious and has a nice touch of nature, with a wonderful garden where you can enjoy your haul from the nearby food street!

Our stay had 4 adults and one 6months old baby and found the space right on for us. Things that impressed us were the details in the house, the garden, the local tips (best ramen ever! It’s recommended in the local tips book up the top), the communication from the host. Unfortunately one of the bikes had a flat tyre (no biggy) and the walk from the train station is a 10 minute walk (we thought maybe it would be overestimated). It’s a easy walk when you’ve dropped off your bags. We loved our 3 nights here and will visit again.

We had a brilliant time at 幸菜’s place in Kyoto. The apartment is beautiful and we loved the traditional features like the tatami beds, low table and display kimono. Although it's located on a main road, it's set back and very quiet at night. The apartment is near bus stops and a metro station, so it's easy to get around the city. We'd definitely stay here again if we were back in Kyoto (and we hope to be in the near future!).

Room was authentic as suggested. This means quite small so keep this in mind! We enjoyed the experience though! Was close to everything we needed with a laundromat close by.

Super cute spot on a quiet street near higashiyama station. A little hard to find in the dark - if arriving at night you definitely need to take a taxi. Amazing shower and great place to stay in Kyoto!

Walking distance to Gion. A convenience store is nearby. It is clean and quiet atmosphere. If you don't have a towel or hair dryer, you should check it out. The host was friendly and responsive. Chuckles

An absolutely wonderful and authentic space in the middle of Gion. I recommend this stay especially if you’re a solo traveler or couple, as it’s the perfect compact size to be cozy and extremely comfortable. I stayed in winter and it was very warm, with a wonderful bathroom to take the chill off the mornings. The hosts were extremely helpful and responsive, too! Definitely stay here if you’re looking for a different kind of authentic, local lifestyle.

A really nice hotel to stay in Kyoto. Very clean, comfortable and a really nice space. The room was small but what we expected and it was tidy. We would stay here again

IMU was a great base to explore Kyoto. Clean and modern hotel for a reasonable price.

Really epic and trendy/hip spot! Easy to find on the maps. Fun activities daily you can opt in for (we did omelette making and Japanese fan crafting). Great bar and food in lobby if needed. AIRBNB says breakfast is included but it was not for some reason due to their policy. That said it was still cheap breakfast and great! Great spot for Kyoto for a few days!

We absolutely loved our stay at IMU Hotel! It was close to city center, and about 24 mins walk from Kyoto station if you’re taking the JR train. Much closer if you’re traveling from a subway train (Shijo station). They give you plenty of info on places you can visit, so that’s a real bonus. Make sure to factor in the 200 yen / day accommodation tax that you’ll have to pay when you check-in, which was noted in the listing.

There were many foreigners among the guests, and it was international and very enjoyable. The bar on the first floor is recommended from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, so all drinks are available at a flat price at a reasonable price! I'm surprised you can stay at such a beautiful and nice hotel at this price! All the staff are kind and will tell you when you listen to recommended bars and shops nearby. I also want to use it when staying in Kyoto. Thank you very much!

I was very surprised by the area it was in - absolutely loved it ! Easy access to the local train / subway and surrounded by amazing local restaurants. You are also close to temples and markets! The only thing I was disappointed by was that it said it includes breakfast and it does not. However, that is a small thing.

Fun ninja room was like stepping back in time. Very clean shared bathroom but it was ok for one night. Walking distance (20 min) to fushimi Imari shrine ( red gate shrine).

Outside the house there is a family across the street and there is a street to eat. Many people eat seats very conveniently. The price is very high. The room is also very special. The door and stairs are very narrow. Large luggage will be a bit inconvenient. The landlord responds to the message in a timely manner. Great Kyoto accommodation experience

Check-in is smooth and easy. The location was a reasonable distance from the station, quiet and easy to spend at night, the shopping district was nearby, and it was very convenient. The soundproofing was good in a beautiful room. We wanted to use it again!

This little apartment is an amazing find in a quiet and clean neighbourhood! Super close to a JR rail train station and a subway. Also very spacious with great amenities. Very close to a cute shopping strip and a fabulous grocery store. The hosts were quick to respond to all requests as well as friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

This place was amazing. Plenty of space in my room, has everything you'd need, even cooking and eating amenities. They rent out bicycles for 500yen a day which made life sooo easy. The room was immaculate, aircon works beautifully and pretty decent view out of the balcony. Highly recommended

Old style hotel can be said an exceptional stay in Kyoto! Worth a try! But in winter, using shared bathroom and toilet can be a bit uncomfortable(freezing cold at night...)

The reception staff were very kind. There is a bus stop near the place where you live. It is convenient to take buses to major attractions in Kyoto. The overall feel of living was good.

I chose it here to experience traditional Japanese tatami mats and warm tables, and it turned out to be a wise choice! Really perfect experience, in several ways: 1. Living experience: Our room is on the second floor of another building, and the staff dormitory is downstairs. There are two rooms upstairs. Our room is a traditional Japanese-style tatami sliding door. Although the room is not large, it can hold three 20 Inch suitcase, the heating is fierce enough, this kind of weather is not afraid of cold, but the wooden structure house is indeed poor in sound insulation, the next room speaks quietly, walks, and the sound of washing dishes downstairs can be heard, but stay free to get earplugs, afraid of noise It can be used and can be locked from the inside. The landlord also has a lock for easy locking from the outside, but in fact, the sliding door can be opened directly. The effect of the lock is not great ~ I like the warm table in the public space and make a cup of tea at night. Flipping through books and chatting with other tourists is really awesome! The downside is that the shower room is very cold ~ so we walked to the nearby bathhouse for a 5-minute walk the next night (450 yen / person) 2. Transportation: You need to take the bus or subway to get to the attractions, but Kyoto is actually not big. We walk back to the bed and breakfast from Yasaka Shrine in about 40 minutes. Because the attractions of Kyoto are easily and casually arranged, the traffic requirements are not high. When I left, because of our heavy luggage, the little sister of the B & B was very helpful in calling for a taxi (the taxi from the B & B to JR Kyoto Station was about 620 yen). By the way, our dream of taking a taxi in Japan was also fulfilled ~ 3. Dining: There are convenience stores and soba noodle shops nearby. When you check in, I will tell you that you can buy sandwiches and milk jelly at the convenience store to make breakfast in the refrigerator at the bed and breakfast. We went to Zhaofuting's soba and udon noodles. (The lightest meal in Japan), and Ginjo ramen (soaked noodles, large portions, minced meat with salty sauce and sizzling ice water) 4. In terms of play: The hostel helped book a Karen kyoto kimono experience near the Inari Taisha Shrine. The kimonos at the original price of 5,500 and 7,700 yen can be experienced at half price. With a haircut of 1,200 yen, each person is about 5000 yen. Very good, but there are not many styles to choose from. Later, I went to Kiyomizu Temple and found that there are a lot of kimonos. The next time I go, I will consider looking for a kimono experience near Kiyomizu Temple. The stay on this trip to Kyoto was very satisfying ~ the experience was great!

The guest house is a cozy place and a genuine Japanese place, we loved it. Is clean and comfortable. 10 minutes walking from a Jr station, next to kyoto st. Mitsuo is an incredible host, the best we ever had in Airbnb. He picked up at the station, offer us help to be in Kyoto, let us leave our luggage the last day and carry them to the station so we don't miss our train. Really nice, we recommend to stay in his house, we definitely do if we come back.

The host, Mr. Yamamoto, was very attentive and enthusiastic. He took the initiative to pick us up at the station. For some special reasons, we left Kyoto one day in advance. Mr. Yamamoto came to see us very early. He would enthusiastically ask us where we were going every day. We were able to take us to a convenient station and recommend us a variety of Kyoto food and play. Many small details are very grateful to us. Mr. Yamamoto's father is also a very cute Japanese elderly man. I hope grandpa will always be healthy and happy! The rooms are clean and warm. Typical Japanese houses have two floors, the living room is on the first floor, the second floor has two bedrooms, the first floor has floor heating, and it is close to the station. There is a huge AEON supermarket within five minutes of going out, and life is very convenient. There will be many discounts after 9pm. All in all I highly recommend this homestay!

The landlord is very enthusiastic and asks you daily if you need his help, and provides information on nearby attractions. There is a large mall near the accommodation, which contains a large supermarket, Daiso, MUJI, shopping in the daytime attractions, and replenishment at the supermarket at night, a lot of effort. The host offers good food nearby, such as izakaya and yakiniku. It is also a good choice after tired travel.

Would stay again next time

Can communicate with the host in simple English. The host will provide travel information every day. The location is really convenient. There is a bus stop near the JR and there is a large shopping mall that can be reached in two minutes.

Amazing place that is beautiful and full of history!

Totally exceeded expectations! Super sister at the front desk is super excellent! There are lovely little yards, facilities and everything are complete ~ I found my favorite "Boat を む" in the bookcase of the common living room. On the first night I checked in and put the cold jio into the quilt: there was a hot water bottle! Moved instantly!

The house is large and styled. It is said to have 80 years of history and it looks great! !! And the staff are also very invisible, you can try Japanese breakfast, 400yen alone, it is quite delicious! !! The experience was great!

The photos don’t do Home Inn Justice! Very lovely and very clean. We loved the Home Inn and would definitely stay again. They’re very kind and very hospitable.

The place was really nice. All the staff we met were very helpful, friendly and spoke very good english (which was very helpful for two not good Japanese speakers). They gave us lots of information about Kyoto as well as kitchen equipment and essentials (salt, pepper etc.) when we needed them. The room was clean and well laid out, the bath was great and added control over heating and water temperature really made it perfect. Short walk to Tokofuji station which is ideal to get to majority of locations in Kyoto as well as onward travel to Tokyo, Osaka and Nara. Only a 10 minute walk to a beautiful zen temple. Only down side is that there isn’t much choice in local shops other than a family mart so I’d suggest shopping for anything in town that you need if it doesn’t have it for you.

The hosts were friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. The space was a great place for the two of us for a few days and we were provided with everything we needed. Only a couple of train spots from the city area.

It is a nice place to stay in, it is a very convenient place, you have the train and bus station very close so you can go to a lot of places, and there are a lot of places for eating nearby too. It was great, If I come back to Kyoto I’ll definitely stay again in this place.

This place was in a perfect location for hopping on the train or bus and exploring Kyoto. The room itself was super cute and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was especially fabulous. For the overall value, this place cannot be beat. I will 100% stay here again if/when I visit Kyoto next.

It takes 15min to Utsuwa from Kyoto Station by walking. But it’s not so bad. Toilet and Shower room are very clean. Futon is also nice. This quality is the best at this price.

Utsuwa is the perfect place for solo travellers! Stylish, secure and homey, it has everything you need. The staff was friendly and understanding. In particular, I loved the simple but hearty breakfast.

First of all, it was much better than I expected, but the location is a bit vague. You can go to the guest house a hundred times at this price. But breakfast may not suit Korean tastes. Dang ㅠ .. The interior was nice.

Staying at this place was far beyond my expectations! Perfectly clean, very stylish, comfortable beds and surprisingly quiet (but that may have been because of the winter season, not many people around). It is located in a quiet neighbourhood within a walkable distance from Kyoto Station, or even famous sightseeing places like Kiyomizu-dera temple and Gion if you enjoy walking. I definitely recommend this hostel if you are travelling to Kyoto and want to experience something unique!

The space is the prettiest we stayed in Japan. It made us feel like we were in deep Japan. The sento was very nice to relax after a long day of walking in the town. The attention was so nice. The only thing that wasn’t very comfortable was that the toilet was downstairs a little apart from the room. Besides that It was a enjoyable experience. We loved it.

Great experience beyond imagination! Breakfast is served daily with a luxurious Japanese-style courtyard view, as well as unique Kyoto dishes. There are many high-end courses including 6000/8000/12000 to choose from. There are electric blankets and air conditioners in the room, and the indoor large bath can be used for bathing. The service is very good. The permission was granted in the Showa era. Many interesting small antiques also have beautiful flower arrangements. It is super close to Nanzenji Temple, the river is clear and very quiet. I really want to come back again ฅ (♡ ơ ₃ơ)

We loved it here! The baths are incredible and exactly what we needed after a long day of sight seeing around Kyoto. My husband and I took two a day bc we loved it so much. Our room was nice in the traditional style. You have to be okay sleeping on the floor (with comfy mats!) and walking down to use the restroom but that was no problem for us! The staff was very nice and accommodating. It was the perfect place to stay in Kyoto and easy to get anywhere!

I was lucky to stay in the traditional Japanese room adjacent to the sweet little garden. Loved the atmosphere. Didn't mind that I had to go outside to go to the (private) wc because you could see the garden if you left the door open (which wasn't a problem because nobody could see you). Everything is very clean and you also have your own sink. Only the shower and the (very ell equipped) kitchen you have to share. Around the corner there are some nice restaurants and Tatsuro and Koori will tell you exactly which ones are the best. And also which busses you have to take to go downtown or some beautiful temples, but I hired (very cheap) one of their bicycles to ride through magical Kyoto. It's a bit noisy (because the walls and ceiling are thin) just as the Japanese mattress, but I slept very well and had a lovely time in this atmospheric place.

The boss and the lady were very good and explained very seriously that the traffic in the nearby hotel is not expensive but it is very nice and clean. It has a chance to be worth trying.

Fantastic place! The space we stayed in was a really authentic Kyoto machiya, but it had all the modern comforts you could really want for a nice stay. The host was also wonderful. He gave us a bunch of advice on places to visit and eat in the area, held on to our luggage pretty much all day, and let us play with his adorable dog.

Hershey's place is the best place we stayed in Japan. Hershey really went above and beyond with all the amenities. There were snacks for us, water, Nespresso coffee. There were even new slippers for us right at the door. Check-in was super simple. The location was a little hard to find because you have to enter through a temple to get to it. I suggest asking Hershey for a Google Maps pin to the front of the location. I think the check-in guide had an outdated link. Hershey's place is really great. You get a feel of the culture while still having modern technology with AC/heater. We didn't have issues with the cold because there were heaters in every room. It gets really cold during the winter so I'm glad the heater worked. The bath tub was a great plus to just relax after a long day. Hershey even had bath salts ready for us. The location is also great because it's only 5-10mins away from the train station. Also a Lawson 5 mins away. I would definitely recommend this place!

Hershey was very quick to respond to our inquiries! About 10 min walk from Sanjo station, which isnt on JR line, but you can use IC to access. There is a good curry and udon restaurant within a few blocks. The home is beautiful. Host even has rice crackers for snacks and kids amenities for my boys. It fit four of us comfortably. The private hot bath in the back with the beautiful zen garden was my favorite part of the home.

This Airbnb is probably the best I've stayed in. The location near a temple was great and felt more authentic and local than staying in a hotel. The Airbnb was beautiful, spacious, and clean. The garden in the backyard was very relaxing. The beds were comfortable and the heater really helped during our stay in the winter. We really appreciated all the amenities provided - snacks, tea, slippers, toiletries, hair dryer, and bath salts for the outdoor bath. Hershey even had a pocket wifi charged and ready to be used by his guests. Would stay here over again.

The equipment in the room is really first-class, the hot water in the stove is very powerful, and there is a beautiful inner garden, and there are many izakayas nearby.

The host was very nice and the room was decorated in style. We checked in very late and the host was embarrassed to greet us. The room itself was a bit smaller than expected, and the two of us were just staying in. It might be a bit harder if there were more people. The location is excellent, it is convenient to go everywhere, the entrance is more convenient, the whole temple is ours at night, and there are cats around

Fusako place was great, for all of u that like Gion Perfecture should stay at Fusako home. It feels very authentic and we love the home furnitures. Very near to Yasaka Shrine and many other shops. Hope to can stay again at Fusako place next time.

I would recommend Fusoka’s place, Gion Kodemare, in Kyoto. It was in a good position to walk to many attractions. It was larger than we expected and the four of us were very comfortable.

We had a really nice stay here. We especially appreciated the comfy beds and the thoughtful amenities in the kitchen and bath. Everything is very functional and of good quality. It’s an older building but I think that just adds to its homey feeling. The tatami room is beautiful and there are very nice dishes and a tea set in the kitchen.

It was really spacious and in a great location! The pocket wifi came in clutch too.

Fusako is an amazing host. The location could not be better. Our hosts were extremely helpful. The facility is well appointed and the pictures are accurate. There are restaurants nearby. The Gion buildings along the canal are worthy of photographs.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gion Kodemari. It felt very authentic and the place was very tidy and well equipped with everything that our family of 5 needed. It is in the heart of the Gion neighbourhood which is full of history, culture, great food and shopping. A perfect base for any trip to Kyoto. Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer as there was so much more to see and do in Kyoto than we had time for.

The place is exactly as described, if you go in the winter be prepared for a bit of a chill - but in the rooms this is taken care of quite well by space heaters. Very cool if you want to spend time in a truly vintage space.

We loved our stay here! The accomodation itself was very authentic feeling & a great addition to our holiday. The amenties are great & make making your own meals easy, if that’s something you want to do. The futons are also very cosy & the rooms get nice & toasty with the heating. It is a bit out of the way from the main attractions, but the bus system is great & there are plenty of stops near by, making it easy to get to everything you want to see. There is also a little restaurant on the same street. Although Italian, it is an authenic Japanese experience dining there. Having this spot too really added to the authenticity of a true cultural experience in modern Kyoto. Would highly recommend!

Helpful owner & clean stay.

Arrive in Kyoto must live Machiya and feel the rich life culture. This homestay is satisfied in all aspects. Many of the nearby bus stations are the main way to travel in Kyoto. There is a heated building in the bus room.

We had a great time to stay here. The communication was super easy.The host was so friendly and we had a great night over there.. Would absolutely recommend to stay there!

Umeya was definitely a highlight during our stay in Japan! The place offers us the most authentic flavor of Kyoto and is tucked away in a non-touristy yet beautiful neighborhood. We were surprised by all the thoughtful details of the stay (local restaurant/cafe recommendation on a very delicate map, facilities including a hair straightener). But the most delightful part is still the garden in front of our house - it presents stunning yet different styles in different weathers. Highly recommend to stay more than 2 days. The only drawback might be that the house is not quite sound proof and you need to be really careful to not make noises.

This place truly felt like a home away from home to me. The staff is so incredibly sweet, welcoming and open. The house is beautiful and the location is superb. I recommend renting one of the bikes and cruising around the city. I was in Kyoto for work and everytime I needed a moment to rest or regroup, this guesthouse was the perfect spot. Also, the futon slept insanely good, which I wasnt expecting since it was my first time. I read in some other reviews that the walls are quite thin, so you can easily hear the other guests. That is true, though in my experience everyone was very thoughtful of one another, so it never bothered me. If anything, the place felt very tranquil. Will definitely be coming back!!!

Amazing stay, wonderful people, great area! Convenient to the shrines, bus lines and then building is fantastic. Lots of character. I especially like the entry garden and the view from the room. The hot tea waiting when I arrived was a wonderful cozy touch. Just great!

I had the best time at Gojo! The staff were so welcoming, immediately inviting me to gatherings at the Gojo Cafe and as a solo traveller it really felt like an incredible community there. This isn’t to say that there wasn’t privacy though, it was great to be able to retreat to my own room, cook for myself in the kitchen and explore the local area. The historical location was spectacular and they have a very handy map/guide for eateries, cafes and sights around. I only wish I could’ve stayed longer - would definitely come back!
