This private Japanese-style inn is a 150-year-old kominka (traditional Japanese house) that the owner, JP, a DIY enthusiast, renovated himself, envisioning his ideal way of life. The most unique feature of this accommodation is the one-of-a-kind “egg sauna.” This is a fully DIY sauna, developed entirely by JP, from design to production, with a unique shape that allows heat to circulate naturally.Enjoy a sauna experience you can't get anywhere else, surrounded by the gentle warmth of a wood-burning stove. The room also has a traditional Japanese hearth (irori), a characteristic feature of old Japanese houses. You can experience traditional Japanese living, such as enjoying a hot pot around the irori (traditional hearth) or grilling skewers. *Please bring your own cooking utensils, such as ingredients and skewers. There is a large fire pit in the garden, and you can talk around the fire. Also, there is a high fence in the garden, so you don't have to worry about your dog running away if you bring it with you. You won't see any other people. It is 60 minutes by Shinkansen from Tokyo to Karuizawa, and 30 minutes by car from Karuizawa Station, so you can work in the morning and take a half-day off in the afternoon, for example.
