Places to stay in Chapel Stile
The Lake District is a World Heritage Site, and High Park is located in the most beautiful part of the area. This former farmhouse, once owned by Beatrix Potter, is situated on the Cumbria Way. The views are fantastic and at night, the silence is total. Although your bedroom is quite small, we do offer a King size double bed with a TV and a small fridge. You have your own private bathroom with great water pressure and piping hot water. We cook your breakfast how you like it - just ask!
We only let one room - with its own bathroom - so you will be our only guests. Your room has a king size bed, a HD TV, a small fridge and free WiFi. Your bathroom has both a bath and shower. A downstairs room is available, both for breakfast and for you to relax in at any time. We work very hard to keep our house squeaky clean too! Extraordinary silence at night, coupled with a true dark sky, make staying at High Park a unique experience.
We are in a secluded valley, but right in the middle of the Lake District. We offer peace and tranquility - and as one of our friends said recently, 'Probably the best view from a garden to be found in England'. The down side of this is that if you are looking for excitement and things to do in the evening, High Park might not be a good choice for you. There are two pubs within reasonable walking distance (20 - 30 minutes) and they serve evening meals and bar snacks. Because there is no street lighting, we are happy to provide you with a flashlight! Both Ambleside and Coniston (approx 5 miles away) offer a wide variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants.
  • A rare and wonderful find - superb hosts and a great location for walking and pubs. A true little gem!

  • Couldn’t fault!! Tony & Wendy were lovely hosts with great knowledge of the area. We followed all of their advice and it didn’t disappoint! They have a beautiful home in a picturesque spot - so peaceful I had the best nights sleep in months. But even without all of that, just Wendy’s breakfasts would have been worth the visit! I would thoroughly recommend!!

    Holly2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had such a pleasant and rewarding first visit to the Lake District, thanks to Wendy and Tony for giving me a comfortable, welcoming, and safe place to start and end my day. Wendy’s breakfast was bountiful and delicious and Tony had great tips for both walking and driving routes. The house itself is so cute and clean. My favorite walk started right there. Will most definitely return!

  • Tony and Wendy were excellent hosts. My brother and I loved the generous hospitality and how helpful the hosts were with hiking recommendations. The breakfast was delicious and the overall experience was comfortable, unique and delightful. Thank you so much.

  • Excellent location with beautiful views. Wendy and Tony really make you feel welcome and will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. Their knowledge of the lakes as well as their lovely warm and comfortable cottage really does make your stay at the lakes a relaxing and pleasant one.

  • Wendy and tony have a great welcome to their special home. The setting is perfect for access to the mountains and a warm and cosy room to come back to at the end of the day. The breakfast was sensational and set me up perfectly for a day on the fells. I would heartily recommend this stay.

    claire2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • My stay could not have been better. The English breakfast was delicious, it was lovely to be welcomed by some tea and cake after each walk, Wendy and Tony were very welcoming and gave great information to have some amazing walks. I highly recommend staying here!

    Thomas2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The bed is amazing, the shower was brilliant, and the walks around the area are absolutely breathtaking (rain or shine, I walked in both!).

Fermain Cottage is a charming lakeland home that has been lovingly renovated over the years to a high standard. It is a three storey property on a peaceful road, just a very short walk from Ambleside town centre. With ample parking for two vehicles, it is a perfect base from which to explore everything the Lake District has to offer. A tranquil, cosy and memorable place to stay, for up to five people. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
The front door opens straight into a newly renovated and well equipped kitchen area. The oven, gas hob and microwave gives you plenty of cooking options. There is a fridge / freezer, kettle, Nespresso Coffee Machine and dishwasher. There are plenty of pots, pans, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils - everything you need for a self-catered holiday. Stone floors lead through to the living room where there is a dining table / chairs and two sofas. There is a wall mounted television and a wood burning stove which is lovely to sit by in the evenings (please bring your own logs). There are some books and games kept in the living room which you are welcome to use. The house is fully centrally heated throughout and the controls are on the first floor landing. The bathroom is a stunning focal point of the home. After a long walk in the hills you can take a soak in the claw-foot tub, or have an invigorating shower with our complimentary toiletries. There is also a double bedroom on the first floor and laundry facilities. The top floor houses a large second double bedroom and a smaller single bedroom. There are excellent views of the surrounding fells from the top floor. On prior request we can accommodate a sixth person on a pull-out bed in the single bedroom. It is a full size single mattress bed (see photos) and would probably be best suited for children. There is an additional charge of twenty pounds if you would like the sixth bed to be made up. Stair-gates and a travel cot can be assembled prior to your arrival, upon request. Being a traditional lakeland cottage, the staircases are quite narrow and steep, which may present a challenge to the elderly or those with mobility problems. Outside: The back door leads out from the living room to a small, peaceful garden with an area of grass and benches. There is a gravel driveway large enough for two cars. There is a large lockable shed in the garden. If you want to store bikes etc in there, I am happy to arrange for the key to be left for you. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
Ambleside is a bustling and lively village where you will find plenty of things to do. Many happy hours can be spent wandering around the town and its interesting shops (with plenty of stops for coffees and cakes!). Ambleside is one of the best places to shop for outdoor gear if you are into fell walking / outdoor activities. In the evenings there are a number of restaurants within walking distance from the cottage if you don't feel like cooking. Pop into one of the many cosy pubs for a drink. The Lake District is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK - there is so much to explore! Turn right out of the cottage door on foot and there are a number of beautiful walks up the hill and onto the local fells, which are suitable for most people and children. Or take a short drive for some more challenging walks in the area - Helvellyn on a clear day offers unparalleled beauty from the top.
  • Fantastic location and a warm, welcoming cottage with everything you need.

    Chris2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just got back from a stay with two toddlers and a baby and the cottage was perfect! The cottage had a baby gate, high chair and travel cot all ready and waiting for us. It’s in a great location so close to walk into Ambleside centre and some fantastic views from the bedrooms on the top floor. Gareth was really responsive to my messages, and check in/out was so simple. The cottage was spotlessly clean and felt so homely and cosy, we’ll definitely be returning here for more Lake District adventures!

  • Excellent accomodation, close to Ambleside centre (the hill to the cottage isn't as big as it looks on Google maps). It had everything we needed despite spending most of our time out walking or hiding in the local pubs from the weather! All in all, would highly recommend if visiting Ambleside or the Lake District in general!

  • We came for the first time in 2019 and decided to return this year. Really amazing place for a group of us to stay, and again had a beautiful memorable time together, this time enjoying the walk to the pub in Elterwater, and also up Loughrigg Fell.

    Naomi2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very good house, clean, warm, well equipped and very comfortable. It's bigger than appears on photos. Good tips on local area and suggested walks are excellent. Host (David) is quick to reply. (Just a little note - there is not a view from within the house). However in all other aspects this is a great house.

We loved it, the little touches were beautiful and the passes to the Langdale Spa make the trip as we went after big walks! It even snowed during our trip making it extra Christmassy, would recommend to anyone... we love the area and the house!

  • Fountain cottage is a sparkling clean cottage with top amenities, a lovely log burner and fantastic walks and restaurants on your doorstep. We could have easily stayed longer and wish that we could have. An absolute gem of a place with outstanding hosts providing lots of local information and thoughtful touches.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Fountain Cottage, made all the better by Simon and Belinda’s quick responses and great communication. The house is spotlessly clean, beautifully and sympathetically decorated according to the age and style of the cottage. We couldn’t have wished for a more welcoming place to come back to after some fabulous autumnal walks. Thank you so much, we would love to come back if you’ll have us :))

  • We had a wonderful time at Pepper Cottage and just wish we could have stayed longer. The space was roomy but felt cosy and the wood burner and underfloor heating kept us lovely and warm during the stormy weather. The garden was totally enclosed and our pugs loved having the freedom to explore safely. Gorgeous views and just a short drive from Ambleside; would love to come back and stay again!

  • Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Highly recommend. Definitely need a car when staying here but thats not a problem. Both evenings we drove into ambleside for dinner which is approx a 15 minute drive. Thank you

  • Bought as a gift for my mum and she loved it. Thanks for making her stay so wonderful!

  • This is a super lovely cottage in a peaceful, quiet location, sandwiched between the picturesque village of Hawkshead and the charming town of Ambleside. The garden space is very nice and the view is great - you can see the monument on the top of latterbarrow (I recommend taking a walk from the cottage to latterbarrow, you could always stop off at the Outgate Inn for lunch). The bi-fold doors are a beautiful feature next to the wood burner, which is a cozy addition. The cottage is well maintained and is a pleasure to stay in. The hosts have great communication and some good sugggestions for spending time in the local area.

  • Had a great time with my family here. Lovely space to spread out and watch a film together with the fire keeping us cosy. Felt very comfortable very quickly and made the most of the fantastic outdoors while we were there.

    Gail2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage in a great location. Would definitely recommend. The bath in particular was great so take bath bubbles! The dogs loved the enclosed garden and all the local walks as well.

    Colin2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely relaxing time at Will and Giles place! The place was huge and very clean and stylist with a great fireplace. The couch and beds are comfortable and the bathroom and shower room clean and modern. We got the All Trails App which helped us find some great walks nearby and the rain didn’t put us off! We were a little shocked initially at how far out it was, but this made for beautiful, tranquil, peace and quiet. Just a heads up to arrive prepared with whatever you need for the evening however there is a little local shop about 10 mins drive away that is open till 10pm. We would stay at Pepper Cottage again and are already planning a summer/autumn trip to be able to take advantage of the garden. Definitely recommend to those with dogs! Thanks Will and Giles!

  • Lovely cosy stay at Bank View! Lots of little touches and very well equipped kitchen. Loved the bathrobes. Shower great, no issues with water. Comfy bed. Parking can be a bit tight if you have a large car. Great location. Thanks again!

  • Very clean and good location

    Ian2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect cottage for two in a perfect location. The house is small - a bedroom with en-suite upstairs and a living room with integral kitchen downstairs. It’s comfortable and well equipped for two. The dishwasher was welcome. Note there’s no washing machine but that was not a problem for us. Loads of walks from the door and local pubs nearby. A beautiful and quiet part of the lakes away from the honeypot sites. Loved it!

    Deborah2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy property in an ideal location for exploring Langdale and surrounding areas. We did not use the car all week as plenty of great walks locally. The local Co-Op is very well stocked and the local pubs The Britannia, Wainwright’s Inn and the Sticklebarn are all within walking distance. Perfection!

    Russell2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Bank View cottage is very stylish and cosy. We had a great time staying here. The location is great, very easy to get to the surrounding areas such as Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere etc. We recommend the food at The Britannia Inn, which was delicious. On arrival there was a top 10 pub walks book which we used all week and completed 4/5 walks from it, this was a nice touch. We used the facilities to cook some evenings too, it was all very easy to use, pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc all provided. Overall, the cottage is very stylish and enjoyable to be in, in the beautiful Lake District. We would highly recommend and hope to visit again soon.

  • This was a lovely little cottage in Chapel Stile which was very tastefully furnished and decorated with a lovely cosy feel. Very near a pub, a little Coop and a tea room...what else could you wish for! We would definitely stay in this cottage again and would recommend it to friends.

  • Lovely cottage perfectly placed in the middle of the Lakes. Great base for walking or site-seeing from. More than comfortable enough to hide from the rain in too, with a lovely big bath :)

Speddy is a recently renovated end cottage, next door to our “End Cottage”. Restored very much in a traditional style with stone flag floors on the ground floor and polished boards on the first. A modern kitchen has been added, along with two wood burning stoves, in the living room and dining room. Additional warmth is provided by electric wall heaters in each room. The bedrooms have been furnished with substantial French-style beds with new mattresses, with pretty soft furnishing throughout.
Sleeps 5, which includes two double rooms, and a single with one family bathroom on the first floor Located on the top road above Chapel Stile, which is really Walthwaite, the property has wonderful views across to Lingmoor Fell and the old quarry workings across the valley. You can also walk down and across fields to the Wainwright Inn. There are some fantastic walks from directly behind the cottage up and over across Silver How to Grasmere, with Spedding Crag directly above. There is parking for one vehicle, and pets are welcome.
The heart of the village is just a short stroll away. In the village you can find the well stocked local convenience store -the Langdale Coop, Brambles Cafe, and the Village Church – The Great Langdale Holy Trinity, and The Wainwrights Inn which sells local brewed ales and provides good homemade food. The famous climbers bar at The Old Dungeon Ghyll, New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, and Stickle Barn Tavern (now owned by the National Trust) are just up the Langdale Valley.

Private room with one bunk bed for two people within Elterwater Hostel, centrally located at the heart of Lakeland, and surrounded by the fells of the beautiful Langdale Valley. The room has access to shared washroom and shower.
This hostel is a converted barn with several recent refurbishments to bring it up to modern standards. It has a long history as a hostel, previously owned by the YHA and owned independently since 2014. You would have a private room within the hostel. It's the perfect mix of everything you need, with the simplicity of getting away from it all. There is no tv here, but a comfy lounge, numerous books and board games for your enjoyment and of course the wonderful great outdoors. We do have wifi for keeping in touch with your loved ones but mobile signal is variable.
The Hostel is in the quiet village of Elterwater in the Langdale Valley; a wonderful part of the Lake District with countless fells, mountains, walks and bike rides right on your doorstep. The Britannia Pub is less than 100 meters down the road, or the posher Eltermere Inn is even closer in the other direction. We are nearby to Ambleside and Grasmere and not too far from the famous Lake Windermere. Whether you are here for the great outdoors, or a more touristy trip we are in a great location to base yourself. The Beatrix Potter attraction is a 20 minute drive, and the next door village of Chapel Stile with a local shop is a 15 minute walk along a lovely river. There is endless choice of places to go. A few of our favourites would be Stickle Tarn, Loughrigg Fell, Lingmore Fell, and the Cathedral Caves. The last three walks can begin straight from the hostel front door.
  • Cracking little place tucked into this beautiful little town. Blink and you’ll miss it. Very clean and tidy, nothing too fancy or cheap. Very helpful people that run the hostel. Will be back soon.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Elterwater Hostel. Pete and Charlie were so friendly and helpful. The hostel itself was warm, clean and comfortable. Pete also has great local knowledge and tips for walks in the area. Elterwater is a great location for people wanting to explore the Lakes. Quieter than Ambleside but a couple of nice pubs and a pizza place within spitting distance. Would definitely stay again.

Situated in a very quiet part of Ambleside, it is only a short 10 minute walk down in to the village and there are many scenic walks right from the door. Parking available.
  • Lovely location up steep back road in Ambleside, with lake views from the bedroom. Cosy, warm, clean. Jem made sure we had coffee and local tips.

  • This is a brilliant place (the pictures are very accurate) in a truly beautiful location. The views are wonderful (including tons of birds!) especially from the comfy bed, which is deceptively large too. We cooked very easily in the kitchen with all crockery/utensils provided, and Jem had left us some coffee/sugar/oil. There are loads of local maps and leaflets too which were great. Cannot recommend this enough, it is a really cute place in a beautiful setting.

  • A very charming place to stay in a great location. Well placed for a lovely walk to the high Sweden bridge and a short, though steep (if needed to be considered), walk into town. The bed is so comfy and overlooks a great view.

  • The view from the living room is spectacular; enhanced only by the team of 3 sheep who graze the grass verges. There are many walks and bike rides straight from the door, and arguably the best walking in the country in all the surrounding fells. The cottage was clean and cosy (the bed in the basement bedroom was particularly comfortable). The kitchen has been re-fitted since the photos on the website. The local shop sells everything: I bought a woolly hat and suncream - such is the weather! The property is managed by a prominent local agency whose office is just down the road and is staffed by a friendly and helpful team who sort out any issues. Finally, wifi was excellent but phone signal was poor.

The 5 Herdwick Huts are set on their own exclusive site on the stunning grounds of Rydal Hall in the heart of the Lake District National Park. With the best mountain walks straight from your hut door and Rydal lake only a 5 min walk away, it really is hard to beat this location. Perfect for a truly romantic getaway any time of year. All bedding linen and kitchen utensils provided, (including tea towel, sponge and washing up liquid) plus wood and kindling to get you started for the wood burner.
Tea room, ornate gardens and state of the art toilet/shower block on site at Rydal Hall for guest use.
Lakes, mountains and the Badger Bar for great pub grub and an opportunity to see the badgers.
  • We loved our little hut, and it worked perfectly for a short Winter/Spring break (the log burner kept the place nice and toasty, and the tea-light lanterns are a lovely little touch). Would definitely recommend!

    Charlie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time in Blea hut, the weather was a wet and snowy, but what do you expect in the Lakes in February. However the hut was lovely and warm with the log burner and had all the amenities for cooking etc. They’re in a fantastic location for walks... 4 mile to Grasmere, 1-1/2 to Ambleside, Rydal Cave over the road. There’s the Badger pub on the main road but we walked into Ambleside with head torches on an evening. Showers/toilets are a walk but that didn’t bother us at all. We will definitely be back in winter. Little gem !!

    Jane2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • So so simple. Great log burner and enough amenities to get you through the coldest nights. Close to some great walks. Shower facilities also only 150 meters. Very cute 👍

Unique double room with its own private entrance in the heart of the Lake District.
A private double room with a king sized bed and private bathroom, the Suite has it's own private entrance.
The bungalow is just s few minutes from the village centre. There are plenty of eating places such as pubs and cafes along with a co op, bakers and butcher shop. There are also many opportunities for walking and cycling in the area.
  • The room is private and had everything we need to rest after exploring this area of the Lake District. The location is great: there are a few places to eat (short walk distance) nearby and a short drive from beautiful places (like the Grizedale forest). Rachel and Ian were great hosts and very helpful getting us familiar with the area and the best places to go.

    Marisol2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We have just enjoyed a wonderful two night stay in Rachel's lovely accommodation. It is well situated, just a two minute stroll from the centre of Coniston and is ideal for exploring the area. The room is very clean, warm and beautifully presented. We wouldn't hesitate in booking again! As a side note, we would recommend the Yewdale Inn for food (fabulous pizzas!)

    Stephen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at Rachel’s place. The private space was beautiful set up for anything you could possibly want/need. Rachel was considerate and thoughtful with some of the warmest hospitality we’ve had. The location is perfect for any Lake District adventure as well as cosy nights in the local. No negatives to this experience.

  • Great hospitality in a beautiful place

    Mark2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious room with nice area for relaxing rather than having to sit on the bed. Good area between room and bathroom for coats, bags etc . thoughtful touches for example, tray for muddy boots to dry. Nicely decorated and very clean. Just a great place. Very central to walk into coniston but also quiet

    Lindsey2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was lovely and the room was great. It was really cosy and the location was great for us - really easy access to the lakeside and the trails around Coniston. Coniston had plenty of choice for food and it all looked pretty good. We ended up eating at the Bluebird cafe on the lakeside. We didn't have time to visit the museums and things in the village, but there was a lot more than we expected to keep us busy. The room itself was spacious and Rachel left a kettle, tea and coffee. The shower was lovely after a cold day out. We were there to be outdoors, but if you need it then the wifi connection was excellent and the tv was good to collapse in front of at the end of the day. There's a good size room between the bedroom and bathroom that made an excellent 'dressing' room. Parking on the drive was easy, the views right out of the window were lovely, the area was very quiet, arriving and checking out were super straightforward and Rachel let us know she was there if needed. The stay was perfect.

A review from January 2020 from Mr Buckle “We would highly recommend The Apartment, Betty Fold. The apartment itself is just lovely, the facilities were great and the owners were friendly, welcoming, accommodating and helpful. The Apartment is located in beautiful grounds with fabulous views of the Lakes countryside, and the location was perfect for stunning walks around the Tarn Hows area. The village of Hawkshead itself is down the hill, a nice walk, especially if you take the path along the river, or a 2 minute drive. We had a lovely few days in January and will definitely be going again." In April 2019 Mr York wrote “This was a fantastic 7 days stay. Hawkshead is only 1.5 miles away, with plenty of places to eat. Central to all the usual Lake District attractions. The apartment had all we would want. Bedding, towels, dishes and kitchen utensils. Idyllic setting with NO car noise. Just birds singing, a Woodpecker, a small deer, pheasants and an occasional badger. Completely peaceful"
Betty Fold Apartment is in the tiny hamlet of Hawkshead Hill close to the picturesque Tarn Hows and the honey pot village of Hawkshead with it's connections to William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. There are many and varied pubs, cafes and restaurants within a shorts drive from from Betty Fold and the owners will be pleased to advise.
  • We stayed here for my husbands 50th. It was perfect for us and our dog with wet and muddy kit. We did some lovely walks locally and a bit further a field. Claire and her husband were very helpful. Shame there isn’t a large supermarket close by, I would advise people wanting to eat in to do a big shop on route as it’s expensive shopping in Hawkshead or Ambleside as they only have express shops and hike the prices in them. Hope to rerun in warmer weather.

    Elizabeth2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic apartment. Great views, very cosy and comfortable, well equipped and very relaxing atmosphere.

  • We had a fabulous stay at Betty Fold. Everything was as described - the appartment was very comfortable, clean, and well equipt. The hosts were very friendly and approachable. The location was perfect - stunnig views. A 20 minute stroll to Tarn Haws, 40 minute stroll to Hawkshead and 10 minute drive to Coniston and Ambleside. We loved it and would go again.

Townfoot Cottage is a contemporary and sophisticated country cottage, nestling in a ‘picture postcard’ setting in the heart of the Langdale valley, within the pretty hamlet of Elterwater. Directly from the door you can enjoy some of the most beautiful and inspiring walks in the Lake District, with the added bonus of returning at the end of each day to the charming surroundings of Townfoot Cottage.
Found in the corner of a small courtyard of traditional Lakeland cottages, Townfoot Cottage provides two bedrooms and a family bathroom. The cottage entrance brings you into the contemporary, luxury-fitted kitchen and eating area. Alongside is the living area where you can relax and in colder weather, enjoy the warmth of a log-burning stove, while the large windows allow the Lakeland light to flood in. There is a useful laundry/cloakroom at the foot of the stairs and upstairs there are two stylish bedrooms with window seats, where you can enjoy the lovely views. The modern family bathroom is designed for long soaks after a hard day on the fells! Private parking is right outside the cottage.
A small village location with the Britannia pub, a cafe/bistro and a small hotel/restaurant. There is a village shop in Chapel Stile, 5mins away. There is a spa in the nearby Langdale hotel. Amusingly, the sheep roam the village roads freely and can often be seen curled up asleep outside the cottage.
  • Townfoot Cottage is very tastefully renovated to a high standard. The kitchen is high quality, the living area is comfortable with a log burner to make it warm and cosy. The bathroom is high quality. The two bedrooms are smallish but the beds are comfortable. The cottage’s location is great being in the lovely village of Elterwater with The Britannia pub just two minutes walk and many beautiful walks from the doorstep. Alun is a great host in that the property was immaculately presented and he answered any queries I had immediately. A very enjoyable stay!

    John2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve had a great week. The cottage and Elterwater are perfectly placed for exploring some of the best peaks and Elterwater itself has the most beautiful surrounding views from the village. A great pub in the village is a short stroll away, good food too. The cottage is small but comfortable and had all that we needed. This is a gorgeous area of The Lakes and we’ll be back for sure.

    Sarah2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Alan’s home is comfortable with very modern amenities. The area of Elterwater, and Cumbria in general, is fantastic. Lots of wonderful walks right from the front door. Great restaurants and pubs abound. A wonderful week in spite of the weather.

The Lake District, also known as the Lakes or Lakeland, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells), and its associations with William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets and with Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin. A National Park established in 1951 covers an area of 2,362 square kilometres. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. The Lake District is located entirely within the county of Cumbria. All the land in England higher than 3,000 feet (914 m) above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest bodies of water in England, Wast Water and Windermere.
  • Great location and great host. Everything we needed for a stay in the Lake District - thank you

    Trelawney2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • You must stop here, everything about the place is perfect. There are so many thoughtful little touches that elevate staying here above other places, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The advice I would give to anybody staying here is to take a walk down the road you drive up to arrive, then hang a left at the end up a public footpath and climb directly up the peak in front of you, the views on the way up and indeed at the top are some of the best in the country.

    Christian2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed at Little Grove for 4 days and it was a lovely experience. It's a cosy space that has everything you would need. The views are stunning and the sheep and chickens out the back were very friendly! Lovely little touches made the stay even nicer, fresh cake and eggs from the farm were delicious. Close enough to Ambleside to feel part of the town but still feels like you are out in the fells. We hope to be back again! Thanks Sarah

This is one of the most beautiful locations in the heart of the Lake District national park with fabulous scenery and walks all around. In fact you can easily do different walks from the door every day for a fortnight I just love it and would like to live here all the time. Since I have to work I am pleased to offer it to others to visit and enjoy. The house itself is set on 3 floors with a feature spiral staircase. Its cosy and warm even in winter. In summer sun streams in through the front windows and you can sit outside on the patio and watch the sunrise or set out across the hills. Friendly sheep often drop by to mow the lawn!
