Only a few miles from the Lake District National Park and Solway Coastline, Scholars Cottage is superbly situated for you to enjoy the beautiful scenery and some of the best local walking routes during your stay. Located in the Lake District National Park on the coast to coast cycle route, Wythop School sits on the side of Ling Fell with views towards Bassenthwaite Lake. The old village school has been renovated to provide comfortable accommodation for up to 10 guests. The village has a pub and hotel offering good food and real ale. All other amenities (supermarkets, shops, bars, restaurants, museums etc) can be found in Cockermouth, a 4 mile drive away.

The Old Map Shop

The Old Map Shop was originally part of the village school. In more recent times it was a map shop, but then lay empty for a number of years before it was sensitively converted into a holiday property in 2020 - 2021. Caldbeck has a pub, cafes and a few shops. It is a great base for exploring the northern fells or for a stop on the Cumbria Way.
