“This place is just perfect, and I cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed our stay here and appreciated the work that has gone in to running this place. We really could not find any fault at all, this truly is a lesson in how to run an AirBnB! Willie was the perfect host, providing a warm welcome when we arrived and providing great local tips and advice, as well as helping us out when we tried to get out the driveway in the snow! At the same time, he respected our privacy but we always felt he was on hand if we needed him. The Old School has been renovated recently to a very high standard with everything a couple or small family would need for an enjoyable stay, in fact it far exceeded our expectations. The place was completely spotless, and very tastefully decorated. The lounge has a lovely woodburner and there was extra wood available if needed. The kitchen is large and very well appointed with all the amenities you could want, plus supplies of the basics (salt, pepper, oil, tea and coffee etc.) plus a few extras if required. The cottage was cosy and warm when we arrived, and stayed that way throughout our stay, despite storms and lots of snow. There are two modern shower rooms, complete with heated floors (which we really appreciated!) and a utility area/porch to keep the wet stuff (this is the Highlands after all) out of the house itself. The location is perfect for exploring the area and we would not hesitate to recommend it, as long as you don't book it for when we next intend to visit ourselves again!”
Soillerie Beag is a self-catering cottage in the quiet village of Insh in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The cottage lies on the boundary of the Insh Marshes RSPB nature reserve and has views across the open countryside to the Spey Valley and Monadhliath Mountains to the north. The area is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise, offering walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching, golf, sailing, climbing and ski-ing. For those looking for a quiet retreat, Soillerie Beag is perfect.
“We had the most magical stay at Sollierie Brag. The host had made an incredible effort to make us welcome in the beautiful cottage, which was spacious and also cosy with exceptional views of the fields and hills. She had left a welcome gift of Brie, oatcakes and wine for our arrival. Everything was exceptionally clean and well organised. I was amazed at the lengths gone to provide comfort for the guests - there were lovely towels, candles, lots of lovely kitchen utensils, spare duvet covers and even a summer togged duvet if it got too hot, stationary and games and carefully chosen printed out maps for easy walking. The location of the cottage is fantastic - there are plenty of walks and water sports close by and you can drive to the start point of longer hiking trails. The nearby town of Kingussie has a few shops and supermarket. We loved it here, and we are so grateful to the host for the extra attention she put into making her home so special and comfortable. Absolutely recommended!”
My shepherds hut and single room are situated on a working croft (small farm). The croft is a a 5 minute walk from the village, with the wildcat trail crossing the top of the croft. While staying on the the croft you will get the chance to meet most of my animals. ( cattle, sheep, chickens) If you are interested i can show you a bit about my way of life.
